A fool attempts a Shadow Dragon Hard 5 Iron Man

I always wanted to share my Iron Man experiences with others.
Now I finally get the chance to do so in the form of a Screenshot Let's Play.
This format got picked over a regular recorded Let's Play due to my generally slow playstyle.
No one would want to see chapters taking about an hour each in video format.

This will be a hard iron man, meaning that the game is truly over if Marth were to fall.
I am looking forward to showing all of my tactical mishaps strategies in motion!

This will be my first screenshot Let's Play ever.
I would love to get some advice if possible.

I will be writing this while playing to better document my plays.

Let's begin!

Chapter 1

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23185.png

Playing the European version by the way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17816.png

Abel threw a Javelin at the thief on the first turn, he'll be picked off later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3498.png

Shiida went shopping after Marth visited the village.
She bought one Iron Lance for herself and three Javelins.
One for herself, one for Draug and lastly, one for Jagen.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18160.png

I parked Jagen on the fort while wielding his Silver Lance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8153.png

Jagen dispatches one of the injured enemy pirates next turn with one solid Silver Lance hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7007.png

The remaining pirate is deleted by the combined efforts of Gordin and Cain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6330.png

Abel throws another Javelin at the thief, leaving him at just 1 HP.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2259.png

Marth puts him to rest for that juicy 50 experience.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16965.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5380.png

Shiida traded two of the Javelins to Draug, then Draug proceeded to trade one to Jagen.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23878.png

Everyone chipped this lone pirate.
Gordin hit, Abel missed and Draug hit.
Jagen got the kill, freeing the fort for Cain to occupy.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27183.png

Some trade shenanigans, had to place Shiida next to Gordin to guarantee his survival.
Cain has a very real chance to die on the next enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23767.png

I was wrong in my assumption, they ganged up on Abel instead, he only managed to hit one on his counterattack.
Shiida destroyed the bottom pirate with an unexpected but very fortunate critical hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6509.png

This pirate was defeated thanks to the combined efforts of Draug with an Iron Lance hit, Gordin with a Steel Bow hit and lastly, Cain with an Iron Sword hit.
Jagen was moved back onto the fort to weaken the incoming pirates with his Silver Lance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17389.png

One of the pirates went for Cain, the other got a 2% crit on Jagen.
He only survived on 2HP before fort healing.
The lower pirate got destroyed by a Javelin crit from Shiida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2515.png

Marth poked the upper pirate after some helpful chip damage from Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30051.png

16 turns of fort healing later....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4765.png

I lured the next pirate with Marth, he actually dodged his attack.
I'll probably train him, since I don't have the best track record of keeping Shiida alive in my Iron Man playthroughs.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5153.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22828.png

The pirate was taken out by Marth after both sustaining an Iron Bow hit from Gordin and a Javelin hit from Abel.
Marth got a decent first levelup.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28090.png

I trap the hunter and have Cain poke him with an Iron Lance for minor Lance rank leveling.
Marth retreated to the fort for free healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__945.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2778.png

Cain got a levelup after poking the hunter again.
I gave the kill to Gordin afterwards.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3682.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7220.png

I lured another enemy pirate with Marth on the fort.
I chipped him with an Iron Bow hit from Gordin and a Javelin hit from Abel before taking him out with Marth.
I did make sure to change Abel's equipped weapon to a sword before taking the pirate out to better prepare him for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16176.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28626.png

I am getting flashbacks of my defense blessed Gordin from back in the day.
The enemy pirate was chipped by Gordin, Abel and Shiida, though Abel missed.

Marth moved in to exact punishment.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21592.png

Thank you, Shadow Dragon.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14837.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11329.png

A local legend has joined our army.
I'm very glad to be able to take him with me.

I pass another few turns fort healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5607.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22916.png

Everyone is in position, let the chipfest begin!
I'll just put this other screenshot here to see how many turns I took.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1647.png

Shiida got a level.
No speed though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27675.png

Abel got a level from throwing Javelins alone.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15041.png

Jagen got a suprise critical on the boss, beating him.
Marth was too far away to seize on that turn, so he seized the turn after.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16638.png

44 - 36 = 8
I took 8 turns to defeat the boss and seize.

Well then, that was Chapter 1.
I'll try to update this daily since screenshot Let's Plays are a little more work than I anticipated.
Thank you for reading the first part of my Iron Man.

Yikes, that low Luck of Jagen (and Draug) always makes these early maps terrifying to ironman on the high difficulties...

That is one of the most damning indictments of early-game Shadow Dragon I have seen.

I was kinda wondering why Shiida wasn't getting a couple a kills fed into her, but if you are expecting her to bite it (and losing the colossal power of a forged Win Spear), than I guess that makes sense.

Your Jagen has been getting a lot of kills. I wonder if he will live late into the game, or fall to a less timely critical.

That is a fast pace for a screenshot LP, if you need a break, or to slow it down do so, just try not to burnout before you finish your run.

Wow, you really started on this fast.

I would love to get some advice if possible.

If I were to give some advice, try and find a way to spice it up a little. You do a good job of explaining what is going with the images and words, but so far it feels very factual. There are a lot of ways you can do that, if you start having really dramatic deaths that could solve it (although you seem fairly competent so far), a lot of recent LPs have done this with their own little fan fictiony element added in, although simply sharing more of your thoughts (about the game, the map, the units being used, etc.) would work as well, or even just more exaggerated reactions, etc.

Another day, another chapter.
Perhaps two, we'll see.
I have a feeling that our first death will soon be upon us, if not now, then certainly in Chapter 3.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18258.png
Chapter 2

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31943.png

Ogma, Barst, Bord and Cord joined us at the start of the chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10264.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28917.png

Ogma and Barst are generally considered the best of the units that join at the start.
Barst is capable of using the Steel Axe without getting doubled unlike a certain unit who will join on turn 2
He can also use Hand Axes at base, giving him 2-ranged utility.
Meanwhile, Ogma will be a lifesaver for both this chapter and the next.
His base speed and Weapon Triangle advantage will be a huge boon, especially against the bosses.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32190.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20169.png

Cord and Bord both have their uses.
Cord has the same base speed as Barst, his base Axe Rank of E does sting a little, though.

Bord, while slower, does have the highest Axe Rank of the 3 fighters.
He'll contribute by throwing a Hand Axe sooner or later.
Coming with a free Hammer is also nice for future chapters.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__965.png

The first turn is fairly uneventful.
Marth is placed on the upper-left tile of the starting island to recruit Darros on the next turn.
Ogma chokes the bridge while being equipped with the Iron Sword to double the pirate that'll attack him on the coming enemy phase.
Jagen occupies the fort for no real reason in particular.
Honestly, the positions of the others are just improvised.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26236.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4256.png

The first and only playable Pirate of this game joins. Ignoring reclassing, of course
And Ymir?
He's promoted, though.

Darros, a simple man o' the sea.
At base, he gets weighed down by 4 from the steel axe, making his effective attack speed a measly 3.
He's decent if given an Iron Axe, though I do not expect his speed to go far.

That aside, my prediction for last turn was completely off.
Marth was targeted instead of Ogma, leaving him at 7HP.
Meanwhile, Darros' betrayal of his former comrades hurt them deeply.
In their rage, they sent the closest thief after him to cut him down.
He barely survived their onslaught, holding on with just 3HP.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24378.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27130.png

The combined efforts of Abel and Draug laid the vengeful thief to rest.
Draug wanted to show off, so he crit the thief for extra style points.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8325.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2351.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2318.png

The pirate who attacked Marth was defeated thanks to the combined efforts of Gordin, Ogma and Cain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1552.png

Darros ran away from danger after nearly being slain by a mere thief.
He decided to "acquire" Bord's Iron Axe for a bit to prevent him from getting doubled by the enemy pirates later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14400.png

Marth fled down into the forest tile, already regretting not paying more attention during his tactics classes back in the day.
Wrys snapped him out of it by hitting him on the head with his Heal staff.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__633.png

The positions of Marth and Darros are now filled by Cain and Barst.
Barst decided to chip the enemy pirate before the next enemy phase.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30710.png

Our first death of the run.
Draug remained in range of the upper Pirate, he was doubled and destroyed.
He will be the first of many to fall, I think.
This will impede my strategy for chapter 3 somewhat.

The enemy hunter decided to shoot at Barst, getting countered afterwards.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30576.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28596.png

He fell soon afterward thanks to the combined efforts of Shiida and Cain.
Of course, Cain used his Iron Lance to build that all-important Lance Ranks for Javelin utility in the future.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2463.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20463.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14938.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26423.png

Abel was blinded by grief after losing Draug and missed his Javelin throw.
Barst was too shocked to hit with his Hand Axe.
Jagen kept his composure and delivered a crushing blow with his Silver Lance before Marth delivered the final blow.
Gordin wished to contribute too, but he did not get the opportunity.

Ogma headed to our local humble curate for some quick healing.
Both bridges were blocked by fighters.
The upper bridge by Cord and the lower bridge by Bord after snatching his Iron Axe back from Darros.
Cain blocks the bridge on top with an Iron Lance equipped to stop the thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5991.png

The last enemy phase went as planned.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8062.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26326.png

Gordin and Shiida ganged up on the upper cavalier, making him bite the dust.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32427.png

Bord got some healing to block the bridge for another turn.
Abel threw a Javelin at the enemy cavalier.
Darros traded with Shiida to make sure that she had the Iron Lance equipped for the next enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28203.png2.png

Bord and Cain were attacked on the next enemy phase.
Cain defeated the thief on the next player phase and got a little bulkier.
His speed is starting to worry me, though.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23608.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26387.png

Abel took care of the remaining cavalier.
We're at turn 5.
Time for some fort healing to save on Heal uses.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10765.png

18 turns of fort healing later...
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4842.png

Marth pulls the enemy pirate on the next enemy phase.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28068.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23927.png

Gordin chips the enemy pirate getting a pretty good level right after.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3625.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15111.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11030.png

Shiida, Abel and Cain take care of the enemy pirate.
Cain finishes him off with an Iron Lance hit for more weapon experience.

Marth retreats to the fort for some free healing.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30671.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24398.png

An enemy pirate and hunter started to approach.
I left an unequipped Abel in range of the hunter while moving everyone else back a bit.
I also triggered the talk conversation between Shiida and Ogma for fun.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6013.png

Back in the day, I used to think that you couldn't recruit people anymore after they attacked.
It's completely false, of course, yet it took a few years for me to figure that out.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8912.png

Gordin chips the enemy pirate while ignoring the hunter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4080.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28860.png

Shiida recruits Castor, who I'll get back to later.
She then throws a Javelin at the enemy pirate.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5506.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22067.png

Castor chips, I then give the kill to Cord.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21150.png

Now then, Castor is the first and only Hunter you recruit, not counting reclassing options or Wolf and Sedgar.
He outclasses Gordin in Strength and Speed while being behind in Luck and Defense.
He has decent growths barring Luck, Defense and Resistance.
His low luck puts him in danger of randomly getting crit by the enemy, I may give him a Goddess Icon later if he's still alive by then.

He fell in my last Iron Man playthrough after I accidentally placed him in range of a Ridersbane cavalier.
Three turns are used for more fort healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9006.png

I lured another pirate with Marth.
He's already close to getting another level.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23486.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8053.png

I ganged up on him with Abel and Castor, leaving him with 8 HP.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26693.png

I wanted to give the kill to Cord, but he missed.
Of course, not all hope is lost after just a small setback.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32106.png

Never fear, Darros is here!
He cut the poor fool down in one quick motion using an Iron Axe he borrowed from Bord.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11504.png

Marth and Cord made another tactical retreat to the fort, though one pirate and a hunter followed.
Castor was feeling bold and decided to block the hunter.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22638.png

Haha....Hahahahaha....
HAHAHAHAHA!
Bad laughter aside, I should really start paying attention to the enemy speed stat.
I already fear for what Chapter 3 will take from me...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10978.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20819.png

Ogma dished out some critical punishment to the hunter who took Castor from us.
Gordin traded with Ogma to make sure that he doubled the incoming pirate with his Iron Sword.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1317.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7793.png

Gordin and Jagen take the pirate out.
I chose Jagen because he was so close to leveling up.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30135.png

Every point of speed makes him relevant for more of the game, I'll gladly take it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__533.png

Commence more fort healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29534.png

9 turns later....
You would think that the enemy would have time to call for reinforcements with Marth advancing at a snail's pace.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13700.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24956.png

I once again lured a pirate with Marth.
Marth gained another level.
I always hope for speed, but this is fine.
HP and Def help him out a lot.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10506.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18415.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17089.png

I feel like I'm repeating myself a lot.
Gordin hit the mark and reached C Rank in Bows, Abel continued training for the Javelin throwing Olympics.
Cain wishes to surpass Abel, but his throwing arm still needs some work.
That is why he practices his grip first by simply poking the enemy.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25405.png

He grew bulkier.
I might reclass him to myrmidon later, if he survives.
That way, he'll grow some speed.
Besides, he was my savior in my last Iron Man playthrough,
But that was then and this is now.

Marth ran back to the fort and rested for a few turns.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18594.png

Bord went shopping, buying two Iron Axes and two Hand Axes.
Both an Iron Axe for himself and Barst.
A Hand Axe for himself and one for Darros.

4 turns of healing later....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30763.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23231.png

Ogma dodges and doubles the incoming pirate.
Gordin shot the poor fool and Cain went in and poked him to death.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8217.png

Marth collected some taxes.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18105.png

I am going to try and defeat the boss safely, let's see how long it takes.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12554.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24557.png

Wrys got a decent level.
I plan to reclass him later for meme potential.
Ogma got another level while hitting the boss.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17247.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15848.png

Ogma defeated the boss after a critical hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16421.png

It took 33 turns to take this boss down.

Well then, that was pretty long already.
I have to keep the image limit in mind next time.
I ended up accidentally posting this before it was ready, apologies.

At least he didn't follow in the hilarious footsteps of many a Darros, recruiting himself early in the enemy turn only to die before the player can control him.

Guess he needed a good old fashion Gibbs smack to get him back into the right head space.

Oof, the secret speed demon dies before he can take off his weighted clothing. Should have been paying closer attention to the enemies power levels

Ah the old Win Spear in action. Enjoy it while Shiida lasts

Huh, that is an interesting misconception to have. Do you remember how younger you reached that conclusion?

Ouch. Pollux would be disappointed by both of your performances

Well at least you took him down before his weapon broke...

I plan to make use of Darros during this run, maybe he'll make it far.

Draug was reclassed to a Dark Mage in my last run, he became very speedy but that was his only real quality by then.
He could wield Excalibur, but he was oneshot by everything.

Shiida usually bites the dust around chapter 3 or chapter 9, I believe.

I think that I made that recruitment mistake more than 10 years ago, I believe that happened because I tried to recruit him with Marth, which obviously didn't work.
I also never used fliers except Minerva back then, a lot has changed since then.

I think that I am missing the reference.

My backup plan was to break his weapon.

Apologies for the odd formatting of my reply, I am still getting used to the forums.

Well then, time for Chapter 3.
I can't say that I'm not nervous.
The stakes seem higher while doing a Let's Play, somehow.
Just a reminder that the total death counter is currently 2.
I'll record the names of the dead too.
Current deaths: Draug, Castor.

Chapter 3

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14841.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31745.png

The chapter starts with two characters joining our side.
The thief named Julian and the cleric named Lena.
We also get a glimpse at a unit we'll recruit later, the very unfortunately named Nabarl, formerly known as Navarre.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25119.png
Julian starts off with an E Rank in Swords and an Iron Sword in his inventory.
17 HP, 4 Str, 0 Mg, 6 Skill, 12 Spd, 7 Lck, 4 Def and 0 Res.

He's the best thief you'll get in the game.
I have used him in other Iron Man runs before, he's quite a decent combat unit when trained.
Capable of dealing with the troublesome enemy manaketes later in the game with a Wyrmslayer and his excellent speed.
Of course, he also has thief utility.
Opening chests, doors and bridges, the usual.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16851.png
We also have Lena, she starts off with a C Rank in Staves and comes with the almighty Warp Staff in her inventory.
16 HP, 0 Str, 2 Mag, 7 Skill, 8 Spd, 8 Lck, 3 Def and 7 Res.

She's generally considered the best cleric in the game due to being able to use the Warp Staff at base and being the only unit capable of wielding the Hammerne Staff later in the game.
She also fits the niche of tanking Gharnef in chapter 15 with her sky-high Resistance combined with a pure water.
The only Staff she cannot use is the Aum staff, but you'll get Elice for that.
She has a rather high speed base if you wish to experiment with that, but few would actually reclass her.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2550.png

Cain heads up to choke the point.
He has as much Defense as Jagen due to his levelups in the past two chapters.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6658.png

Everyone else heads to the left side of the map to intercept the three enemy fighters who will start advancing next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6549.png

I put Jagen on the edge of their range, though I accidentally forgot to equip his Silver Lance.
He carries the Vulnerary for emergency healing later.
Maybe he'll dodge the first hit with Weapon Triangle Advantage and the small boost from the terrain?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13539.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22870.png

Oh, thank you.
It's always a relief to see kindness in these trying times-

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31640.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19957.png

Why would he give us a cursed axe if he's concerned for our well being?
I always enjoyed this dialogue.
Anyhow, the Devil Axe is actually pretty good in this game.
It's very likely that I will have to rely on it in this very chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18502.png

Bord took the Devil Axe from Marth from now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2462.png

Cain and Julian are in position.
Cain should only take 2 damage per round of combat, provided he doesn't get crit.
It isn't visible over here, but I sent Wrys back to support this group.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17097.png

The legend actually went and dodged.
This'll preserve his health for later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10813.png

I keep putting Jagen on the edge of their range to slowly lower their health.
The enemy hunters moved too, which might get a little problematic later.
I remembered to have him equip his Silver Lance this time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16284.png

Barst took hold of the infamous axe, he'll have to use it soon.
May luck be with him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27198.png

Everyone retreated a little further, only keeping Jagen in range of the injured fighter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__72.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14792.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8734.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21388.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17699.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20265.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__869.png

Shiida recruited Nabarl, who'll mostly be contributing by trading his Killing Edge to Ogma later.
He currently gets weighed down with it a little, causing him to get doubled by the boss of this chapter.
I'll cover him more in just a bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25531.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12230.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6123.png

Shiida threw a Javelin at the enemy thief above Cain right after recruiting Nabarl.
Cain and Julian ganged up on him, taking him out.
The thief did not attack Cain on the last enemy phase for some reason.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__93.png

Nabarl.
As mentioned before, he starts out with a Killing Edge in his inventory and a C Rank in Swords.
This allows him to use Armorslayers at base.

19 HP, 5 Str, 0 Mag, 9 Skill, 11 Spd, 8 Lck, 6 Def and 0 Res.
I've read that his personal base Speed is actually 0 and that he's only really decent due to Myrmidon bases.
I can't say, though.
He either dies, isn't recruited or gets reclassed in my Iron Man runs.
For example, he was reclassed to a curate in my last playthrough.
He made it past promotion and ended up decent, he could even wield Excalibur after reclassing to sage.
I think that he fell to an enemy sniper in Altea Castle last time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4954.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10394.png

I don't seem to learn from my mistakes at all, do I?
Cain got doubled by the enemy fighter and was taken out.
Lena was standing behind him on standby to heal the people choking the point if needed.
This situation is rather dire, let me show you why.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26714.png

This is Wrys, our humble curate as you might recall.
He wished to help out, so he traded his Heal Staff to Lena.
Now that Lena is no more...
Well, both the Warp and Heal Staves she was carrying were sent away to the void.
They'll show up in the Convoy during the Battle Preparations of the next chapter.
That means that we are without efficient healing for the remainder of this chapter.
Wrys cannot contribute anymore, unless I use him as a distraction.
Let us hope it doesn't come to that.

Our troubles are not over, however.
Observe!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9382.png

Julian is basically trapped over here.
Moving him down would bring him closer to escaping, but that would free up space for him to be attacked from three sides at once.
I will leave him there and hope that he dodges for a bit.
But, it's probably the end of the line for him.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18895.png

Shiida flew down to throw a Javelin at the thief who doubled Nabarl during the last enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5333.png

Abel gets the kill with another Javelin throw.
He attacks from the fort to hopefully secure the area for a bit.
Nabarl runs behind him after his attack to make sure that he's equipped with an Iron Sword for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8320.png

He also leveled up.
Though, nothing was gained.
Still, he shouldn't get doubled like Cain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3544.png

Jagen ran back and healed himself with the Vulnerary.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2487.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11158.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8692.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5530.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13915.png

Marth had a short chat with Nabarl.
I do hope that he lives up to his reputation for once.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8497.png

I placed Ogma in range of the wounded fighter, he'll defeat him exactly on the counterattack with his Steel Sword.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30930.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27441.png

Ogma both dodged and crit on the counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9023.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7367.png

Julian is now truly trapped.
He survived this enemy phase, even if only barely.
He'll distract one of the enemy fighter's for sure during the next enemy phase.
I can only hope he holds on a little longer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7559.png

Abel dodged too.
This was a very lucky enemy phase, all things considered.
The battle is not lost just yet.
Though luck is far from a reliable strategy.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7144.png

Gordin chips the fighter for some decent damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1235.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11291.png

Jagen rides in to take him out.
Why am I getting all these unecessary crits?
It's stylish, at least.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9631.png

Barst heard some mad whispers coming from the cursed Devil Axe in his hand.
He had placed himself in range of the enemy before he knew it, armed with that very axe...
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18336.png

Julian fell, unable to dodge his former comrades any longer.
At least he's reunited with Lena....
He managed to distract one of the fighters, which was still a huge help.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10656.png

Barst survived using the Devil Axe, a rare occasion indeed.
This put the fighter who attacked him in range to be killed during the next player phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24968.png

You might think that Jagen cannot take another hit, but the fort healing allows him to survive another counter later.
This fighter is also  in range to be killed during the next player phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1731.png

Jagen takes the fighter out, making room for another one to attack him during the next enemy phase.
He should survive unless he gets crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15403.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18647.png

I took a bit of a gamble with this play, but it went well.
The combined efforts of Gordin and Barst defeated the enemy exactly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1945.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6839.png

Nabarl got a very welcome crit.
I suppose that he lives up to his reputation after all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14877.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15575.png

Marth and Shiida worked together to dispatch yet another fighter.
Shiida is pretty good when she's around.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4178.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18325.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32418.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11565.png

Attack order: Abel > Cord > Ogma > Darros.
Cord missed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10214.png

Crisis averted.
Unless Jagen gets crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24667.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18959.png

Jagen survived the encounter and Marth swooped in to get the kill.
He got a very good level.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27879.png

Remember, Wrys lost his Heal Staff for this chapter.
You know what that means.
Fort Healing

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22774.png

16 turns later...
Why's there an enemy hunter up there who never moves?
I never bothered defeating him, but I'm quite curious.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31150.png

3 turns of walking later...
I put Ogma in range to pull one of the fighters.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__199.png

Real smooth, Ogma.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10220.png

Ogma retreated to the fort to use as a chokepoint.
Nabarl waits behind him and gets Ogma's Iron Sword.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21664.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8652.png

Ogma got hit and switched places with Nabarl.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21343.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31375.png

Nabarl dodged and countered, bringing the enemy low enough to be brought down by Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31672.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21698.png

Nabarl dodges once more and Gordin goes in for more chip damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12800.png

Well then...
My luck is really all over the place today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10083.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3413.png

Gordin and Nabarl take him out together.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__223.png

Nabarl even gets a decent level out of it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3853.png

6 turns of fort healing and one turn of walking later...
It's finally time to take on the boss.
The menace of the earlygame.
The one, the only...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24400.png

Reynard.
I'll update when he's down or if anyone levels up in the meantime.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7824.png

Oh.
Ogma dodged and got a crit in the first battle.
I might be able to wrap it up after just one turn, then.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12136.png

First another hit from Ogma to bring him low enough to KO.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13574.png

I'll just send Abel over there to finish the job, he'll be fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16264.png

He wasn't fine.
He missed and got absolutely destroyed.
You will be missed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9613.png

Nabarl is just short of killing him....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13229.png

No worries, Gordin can handle this, right?
...He missed, but then dodged one of the counterattacks, barely surviving for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27634.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29098.png

Reminder that support bonuses do exist in this game.
Shiida currently gets some minor bonuses from Marth and Ogma, I believe.
Anyhow, moment of truth!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4508.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10343.png

Shiida won the day for us..
She got a decent level, so all is well.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8783.png

It's over, we won
15,000 gold won't bring our comrades back.
But we still live.
We'll make it to the end, no matter what.

Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
You won't be forgotten.
The total death counter is 6 now.
Draug, Castor, Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.

Marth's journey will be stained with the blood of comrades and foes alike.
Still, he must move on to a better tomorrow.
Hope will live on as long as he draws breath.

The earlygame is really tough, and not having access to reliable healing is certainly annoying.
You'll also easily go through the Heal Staff Wrys comes with.
Or maybe that's just me.

It would have been more convenient if the Fire Emblem also opened doors.
I am going to buy a lot of door keys later to prepare for this.
Besides, I'll need them for Tiki's chapter anyway.

We'll encounter some more translated names later on.
Dolhr being replaced with Doluna as an example.

...Well I guess I Jagen is safe from the bench for a while now.

Jagen usually stays relevant for the entire game.
Unless he meets an unfortunate end early on.
Or if you reclass him to a bishop in chapter 4 for fun and accidentally leave him in range of the enemy horsemen.
Hahaha....

I was starting to worry we were going to see a repeat of the Abel disaster, but Gordin has the RNG on his side must have been the OVA memes swaying things for him...

Probably should have tried this attack before the Gordin one, as she lives the miss for certain unlike Gordin.

I should probably throw more "But Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrssss" jokes in here.
I actually missed that, she usually gets oneshot, and I assumed the same held true today.

Chapter 4 approaches.
We suffered some heavy casualties during Chapter 3, but we'll manage.
Current death count: 6
Draug, Castor, Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
I will add the names of generics if they happen to fall in battle.

Chapter 4

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22213.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18225.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25752.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16531.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17153.png

We'll have to win this chapter before joining up with the remains of the Aurelian army.
Shiida is still alive, so we should be able to dispatch the enemy cavaliers just fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8133.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10170.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5578.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22461.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21417.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10249.png

Malledus unlocks the Preparations menu for us.
Does anyone ever talk about Malledus?
I get the feeling that people barely remember him because he's never actually playable and only plays the role of Marth's advisor.
If Jagen dies, then Malledus will talk instead of him if Marth were to fall in battle.
You know, I'm going to try and mention him every time he appears, within reason.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27187.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24265.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9467.png

Marth's tactician is pretty bad if we're in need of generics.
I'm not complaining, though.
Free iron weapons to sell.
...And semi decent units, especially when you get promoted ones.
Wait, isn't Malledus Marth's tactician/advisor?
Does that mean we're technically playing as him?
Hm.
This clearly provides me with the opportunity to blame him for all of my mistakes.
I'm kidding.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8712.png

Our first generic is Ida, a curate.
He brought a free Heal Staff, so that's pretty convenient for us.

16 HP, 0 Str, 1 Mag, 1 Skill, 5 Spd, 0 Lck, 3 Def and  7 Res.

I would usually talk about my experiences with the character, but Ida hasn't been notable in my runs.
Not having an identity to speak of doesn't help his case.
Though, I suppose that like all generics, Ida has the possibility to get any hair color and be male or female.
So that's something.
Generics use class growth rates.

20% HP, -15% Str, 10% Mag, 15% Skill, 20% Spd, 0% Lck, -10% Def and 30% Res.
Treat all negative growths as 0%.
Doing a generic only run in Hard 5 would be a real challenge, wouldn't it?
Hm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29116.png

Ossa starts as a pirate.
That makes him another man o' the sea, like Darros.
One of his former comrades perhaps?
He gets doubled by all the enemy fighters on this map.
I'll keep him as a pirate for reasons that will soon become clear.

21 HP, 6 Str, 0 Mag, 1 Skill, 6 Spd, 0 Lck, 4 Def and 0 Res.

I'll try and find a use for him.
He could always serve as a decoy if things go south.

80% HP, 40% Str, -20% Mag, 15% Skill, 10% Spd, 0% Lck, 0% Def and -15% Res.
He'll get a lot of HP, at least.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9973.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15477.png

Zas got reclassed to allow Jagen to reclass to a Dracoknight.
Having two healers is convenient.

17 HP, 0 Str, 1 Mag, 2 Skill, 3 Spd, 0 Lck, 1 Def and 8 Res.
A woman of the cloth who has blue hair, apparantly.

20% HP, -15% Str, 10% Mag, 15% Skill, 20% Spd, 0% Lck, -10% Def and 30% Res.
Same growths as Ida.
She shouldn't be seeing any combat.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13316.png

The legend.
He'll be the only guy worthy of the Gradivus at this pace.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__315.png

Nabarl took one of the horses left behind by Cain and Abel.
This will come into play later.
He has as much defense as base Jagen now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12770.png

Wrys wishes to help out on the front lines.
He feels guilty for being unable to contribute during Chapter 3.
He took up the sword and is now the fastest unit in our army, tied with Shiida.
He does get weighed down by 1, though..

Something unrelated, isn't Wrys the only playable old man to start in an unpromoted class at level 1?
It's an intriguing thought.
His growths reflect his age, but he's fun to train up nontheless.
He was probably just a civillian before the war, picking up a Staff to help out once he heard a war was brewing.
Or something.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19188.png

Cord was reclassed to a Dark Mage.
He can contribute with some chip damage this way.
He does get doubled by everyone due to his stat changes, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16328.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9967.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25935.png

One small shopping trip later...
I technically reclassed Wrys after this, but the post will look nicer in this order.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21722.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18068.png

I would usually forge Marth's Rapier instead, but Shiida is alive for once.
I am not that creative with forge names.
Witness the Win Spear.
She'll litter the lea with the enemy's cavalry!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13620.png

Some miscellaneous inventory management took place.
Small things like handing a Vulnerary to Jagen and Ogma.
Giving Nabarl an Iron Lance and Wrys an Iron Sword.
Time to finally start the chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25308.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24181.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19049.png

I already stole his line.
That aside, he's no threat at all.
He only holds the Ridersbane and has no 2 range weapons.
We'll get to him soon.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25856.png

Wrys and Ogma lure the enemy fighters near the start.
Wrys should survive one hit, even if only barely.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18898.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19913.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31245.png

Shiida and Jagen bring the thief in range to be taken out by Nabarl.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7798.png

Shadow Dragon disagreed.
He lives, for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__138.png

Everyone else headed to Wrys and Ogma.
Don't mind the weird black squares on some of the HP bars.
It's a visual glitch.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19347.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14616.png

Shiida defeated the thief before he reached the village.
She got a pretty decent level out of it.
No strength, though.
Not that it matters with the Win Spear.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23901.png

Jagen and Nabarl headed up to intercept the second thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24577.png

Wrys got healing from both Zas and Ida.
He was very thankful to have their support.
Zas originally poked him with her healing Staff, not really being used to her new class.
The training of a pegasus knight does not contain any pointers on how to use healing staves after all.
Wrys gave her a small lesson on how to properly use a staff for next time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10224.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17921.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6622.png

Cord, Gordin and Marth combined their attacks to take down another foe.
Cord seems to be in a dangerous spot, but he'll be saved by a rather inhumane strategy later...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9481.png

Marth reached C rank in Swords.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9187.png

Malledus sent Ossa into the water, having him serve as a decoy for the enemy hunter to attack.
He did this knowing that Ossa would probably fall in battle.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6968.png

Ogma consumed a vulnerary.
Or did he drink it?
He absorbed the contents and restored 10 HP.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18486.png

The strategy Malledus devised was effective.
Cord was saved, though Ossa was sacrificed to reach that goal.
He's sleeping with the fishes now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13429.png

Ogma was attacked during the enemy phase and gained a level.
His base speed will keep him relevant for a while.
Fun fact, he has never survived my iron man playthroughs before.
Perhaps it will be different this time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20865.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25270.png

Jagen and Nabarl defeated an enemy hunter and blocked the path of the incoming thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3323.png

Ogma took care of the wounded fighter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28588.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29063.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17119.png

Marth, Darros, the legendary man o' the sea and Bord took care of the hunter who killed Ossa.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3089.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29440.png

Ogma was healed by Zas, everyone got in position for the next enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18451.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30444.png

The dream team of Jagen and Nabarl took care of the final thief on the map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15640.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7065.png

Ogma was healed by Zas and immediatly attacked the left fighter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12659.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20095.png

Cord and Barst teamed up to take care of the right fighter.
Barst used the Devil Axe, will he get lucky again?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17281.png

His gamble paid off and provided him with a level.
He even got luck, which is quite symbolic after what he just got away with.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2109.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30257.png

Bord and Darros finished what Ogma started.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16785.png

Darros recieved a level.
I look forward to using him more.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__683.png

Ogma was healed again, this time by Ida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27865.png

Wrys headed up to evade the enemy cavaliers.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8268.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__172.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15692.png

Marth borrowed Ogma's vulnerary and regained 10 HP.
He was then healed by Ida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17501.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13769.png

Ogma consumed the vulnerary and got back to full health.
Darros joined the front line.
He should only get attacked by one cavalier.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21851.png

Nabarl and Jagen divert some of the cavaliers to their side, lessening the strain on our main army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17427.png

We also have this guy.
Lena's brother, Matthis.

20 HP, 5 Str, 0 Mag, 2 Skill, 6 Spd, 0 Lck, 7 Def and 0 Res.

He has both an E rank in Swords and a D rank in Lances.
This would allow him to use Javelins at base.
I won't be covering his growth rates since we cannot recruit him anymore.
Lena passed on, after all.
We'll put the poor guy to rest in a bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21709.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31850.png

You'll see her again soon.
Darros hit him with his thrown Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26336.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30604.png

Gordin and Marth make short work of one of the cavaliers, taking him down with exact damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14741.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10942.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14116.png

Ogma cut Matthis down without mercy.
Rest in peace, Matthis.
I'll count his death on the death counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8515.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26654.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10842.png

You might think that I'm being inefficient.
You would be right.
But you'll see why I'm doing this in just a moment.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27636.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26668.png

His speed is actually on par with Shiida again.
He also won't get weighed down by Iron Swords anymore.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25246.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20325.png

Zas healed Wrys, Ida healed Barst.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14441.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25666.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3380.png

More Vulnerary shenanigans.
Jagen retreats and restores 10 HP.
Nabarl joins him and takes the vulnerary to heal himself too.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10586.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31400.png

Both Jagen and Nabarl got a level during the enemy phase.
Jagen is lucky to be alive, despite facing crit so often.
Nabarl got a decent level, he always seems to get loads of HP when I use him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5487.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22836.png

Jagen took one of the cavaliers down while Navarre made a tactical retreat to the fort.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20745.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16812.png

Ogma was healed by both Zas and Ida.
Ida even got a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25036.png

Woo.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15040.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12321.png

Barst and Darros get some healing from our local generics.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22495.png

Ida got a decent level, all things considered.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32361.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7320.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15464.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28051.png

Jagen, Shiida and Nabarl defeated the last cavalier together.
Shiida reached C Rank in Lances.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26927.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17970.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2066.png

5 turns of walking and healing later...
Jagen picked up a Steel Lance in the armory on the way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7782.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21380.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26638.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31284.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21031.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26127.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16964.png

A new unit just joined our army.
Merric, wind mage extraordinare.
Wielder of the legendary Excalibur tome.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25678.png

He joins with a D Rank in Tomes.
20 HP, 0 Str, 3 Mag, 3 Skill, 6 Spd, 3 Lck, 4 Def and 3 Res.

60% HP, 0% Str, 40% Mag, 50% Skill, 40% Spd, 45% Lck, 5% Def and 20% Res.

Merric is a unit with great potential.
He's immidiately useful due to his Excalibur tome while also being capable of growing into a magical menace on the battlefield.
I've reclassed him in a few of my older runs, he ended up being good as both a Sniper and Paladin.
I hope that he'll stay with us for a while.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7906.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32508.png

Merric takes one of Cord's Fire tomes.
He then gets in position to face the enemy archers on the next turn.
He shouldn't get doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6495.png

He did get doubled.
The fault is mine, I forgot to take weapon weight into account.
His Fire tome weighed him down by one, making his attack speed 5.
The archer had 9 speed, so rest in peace, Merric.
Let's see, we had 3 Deaths in this chapter so far, Ossa, Matthis and now Merric.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7059.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23701.png

Perhaps I only checked the right archer before putting Merric in range, he would have survived that one due to that 1 speed difference.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20386.png

I put Barst in range with a Hand Axe equipped.
He won't get doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28013.png

Both barst and the archer dodged.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10071.png

This is better.
Wrys, Zas and Ida are going to get some free experience this way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30367.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23312.png

Wrys the absolute legend.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18900.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12399.png

Ida and Zas healed Barst back to full health.
Ida reached Staff Rank D.
I won't bore you with this bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__35.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1566.png

Zas got an empty level from healing Barst.
I'll update again after the two archers are taken care of.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10312.png

Ida got another level while healing.
It seems that he wants to be the fastest generic curate alive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4838.png

Wrys got another crit and Zas reached D rank in Staves.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21925.png

Wrys defeated the final archer and got another level.
He seems to blessed, let's check his growths.

Wrys as a Myrmidon:
50% HP, 15% Str, 0% Mag, 25% Skill, 25% Spd, 40% Lck, 10% Def and 10% Res.

Quite lucky indeed.
Though I suppose that he's missing out on HP.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11466.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21090.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16179.png

Cord attacked the knight, causing him to move and attack him on the next turn.
Cord attacked again and leveled speed.
Speedy mage.
Discount Draug?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__999.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26757.png

Gordin and the legendary Darros took the Medonian knight down.
That reminds me, Macedon was translated to Medon in this version.
Though I do recall Matthis saying something about having to fight under the Macedonian standard in his talk with Marth during another playthrough.
I might just be remembering it wrong, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26091.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24997.png

Ida and Zas healed Cord for that juicy free experience.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29094.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23366.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10221.png

Zas healed Darros and her skill improved.
Ida healed too.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25105.png

Ogma is in range of one of the horsemen, but he won't get doubled.
He'll be fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23881.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4328.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24483.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27223.png

Attack order:
Darros > Wrys > Gordin > Marth.
Gordin faced some crit but survived just fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2688.png

Marth got a near perfect level, only missing out on Res.
He only has a 2% Res growth anyway, so I'm more than happy with this.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14957.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17883.png

Ida and Zas got some more healing in.
They're starting to get used to their job.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11421.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3367.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23886.png

Even the legendary man o' the sea, Darros, can miss.
Both Wrys and Nabarl got some small hits in.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18170.png

Zas healed Ogma and got another level.
Guess what went up.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11587.png

Indeed, speed.
I hope he keeps this up, even if only for the memes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15213.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3342.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9791.png

Marth visited the village and accepted their generous donation.
He's going to use it all for his future Door Key collection.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26905.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2869.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25365.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26188.png

Cord, Wrys, Nabarl and Darros hit the horseman until he could bear it no more.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11216.png

Darros grew a little.
Possessing the power to walk on water has a cost.
In his case, his growth is impacted.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24252.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10428.png

Gordin attacked the leftover enemy curate for a bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6882.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10927.png

Darros recieved some healing from the usual two.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1148.png

Gordin assasinated the curate, but was 3 experience short of leveling up.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26533.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2028.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14215.png

Gordin got his level one way or another.
The boss will eat those words soon enough.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28241.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21581.png

I forged it and almost didn't use it at all.
Honestly, my response to getting destroyed by a forged Wing Spear would be the same.
I chose not to Boss abuse because I've already spent hours on playing and writing this post at the same time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12735.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8169.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25563.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18148.png

Oh yes, I'm certain that Hardin will appreciate a Silver Sword he can't even use.
I'll just be holding on to that...

Well then, another chapter completed.
This was quite a ride.
From Ossa's sacrifice to Merric's unfortunate end.
And not to forget, secret speed demon Ida.

The Death counter has increased by 3, bringing the total to 9.
Draug, Castor, Cain, Lena, Julian Abel, Ossa, Matthis and Merric.

This chapter was certainly something.
Making daily updates might be a little intensive if it's going to be like this each time.
Still, I'm having a blast.
To finally share my Iron Man experiences and failings.
The comments are a big motivator too, I look forward to seeing them every day.

Now then, I've been working on this post for over 4 hours straight.
Time to rest.

See you all again tomorrow.

Does anyone ever talk about Malledus?
I get the feeling that people barely remember him because he's never actually playable and only plays the role of Marth's advisor.

He literally disappears from the face of the earth in both Mystery of the Emblem Book 2, and New Mystery of the Emblem, with Jagen instead acting as advisor/tactician...

Our first generic is Ida, a curate.

Now for the generic names I wont recognize. To be fair the first 12 are a bit lazy number references in the NOA version, but the names of those that come after are hilarious, and I do have a soft spot for Unil (thanks to the Mangs H5 ironman), and Quatro (due to being the only Fire Emblem character other than Quan to have a name starting with a Q).

Wrys wishes to help out on the front lines.
He feels guilty for being unable to contribute during Chapter 3.
He took up the sword and is now the fastest unit in our army, tied with Shiida.
He does get weighed down by 1, though..

Well that is a fun class change to make. So rises a bald Sword Master.

12 hours ago, Pierre Hoquet said:

Something unrelated, isn't Wrys the only playable old man to start in an unpromoted class at level 1?
It's an intriguing thought.
His growths reflect his age, but he's fun to train up nontheless.
He was probably just a civillian before the war, picking up a Staff to help out once he heard a war was brewing.
Or something.

Fun fact, when FE3 had its remake of FE1 with book one, Wrys was one of the characters cut, entirely replaced by a vulnerary...

I would usually forge Marth's Rapier instead, but Shiida is alive for once.
I am not that creative with forge names.
Witness the Win Spear.
She'll litter the lea with the enemy's cavalry!

Sometimes the classic names are best.

12 hours ago, Pierre Hoquet said:

Zas originally poked him with her healing Staff, not really being used to her new class.
The training of a pegasus knight does not contain any pointers on how to use healing staves after all.
Wrys gave her a small lesson on how to properly use a staff for next time.

I like this little addition of a character moment for Wrys. Its a nice little touch.

The strategy Malledus devised was effective.
Cord was saved, though Ossa was sacrificed to reach that goal.
He's sleeping with the fishes now.

Malledus was worried these generic might be spys meant to betray them. Hopefully he will have more trust in the generics in the future.

12 hours ago, Pierre Hoquet said:

Fun fact, he has never survived my iron man playthroughs before.
Perhaps it will be different this time.

Just out of curiosity, how many Ironmans have you attempted, and how many wins?

Barst used the Devil Axe, will he get lucky again?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17281.png

His gamble paid off and provided him with a level.
He even got luck, which is quite symbolic after what he just got away with.

Barst is living a dangerous life...

With Lena dead, I find his battle quote far more tragic than his death quote...

He shouldn't get doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6495.png

He did get doubled.

Whelp that was fast. At least you can still get Wendell to use that Exalibur tome next chapter.

12 hours ago, Pierre Hoquet said:

Perhaps I only checked the right archer before putting Merric in range, he would have survived that one due to that 1 speed difference.

Huh, I didn't remember FE11 being a game with enemy stat variation like that. Yeah that detail makes this a less funny, and far more understandable mistake to make.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10312.png

Ida got another level while healing.
It seems that he wants to be the fastest generic curate alive.

Ida has gotten some solid levelups for a generic. Is this the rise of a generic hero? Only time will tell.

12 hours ago, Pierre Hoquet said:

Oh yes, I'm certain that Hardin will appreciate a Silver Sword he can't even use.
I'll just be holding on to that...

One of the funnier relics from the original, where there was a single weapon level stat, instead of distinct weapon ranks for each weapon type.

Didn't he fall ill or something during Book 2 and New Mystery?
I remember reading that somewhere.

That's pretty ironic.
I recall that his Cipher art makes a reference to that too.
I would have been less painful if he was replaced by a Radiant Dawn Vulnerary instead, since those actually outclass him for a while.
Then again, Radiant Dawn healing items and staves are very generous.

I will try my best to throw more of these moments in there.

This will probably not be the last time that a generic gets sacrificed.
Who knows?
We may have to resort to some unpleasant tactics to protect Marth until the end.

3 hours ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

A very good question.
I've only ever done Iron Man playthroughs of Shadow Dragon.
But this one would be my 6th or 7th one?
Maybe even 8th.

I finished 4 or 5 of them.
Two ended at the start because Jagen fell early.
One made it all the way to the final chapter, but I lacked the power to beat it and warpskipping was no longer possible.

Chapter 5 is here.
More people fell in battle during our clash in the lea.
It makes me wonder what the total death count will be when we reach the finale.

This will be an interesting chapter.
A lot of people will join us.
And, I suspect that few will actually get to witness Chapter 6....

Current death count: 9
Names of the fallen by chapter.

Chapter 2: Draug and Castor
Chapter 3: Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
Chapter 4: Ossa, Matthis and Merric.

Archanea has been translated to Akaneia, fun times.
Certainly, Marth's ragtag group of lickspittles will be able to help them out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2345.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27416.png

I bough a new Heal Staff for Zas and forged the Ridersbane for later.
Zas broke her last Heal Staff after trying to use one like a physic while preparing.
Before you ask, no, It didn't work.
Gordin was minding his own business until he suddenly got hit by a Heal Staff against his head.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10720.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__859.png

Malledus decided that she might actually be unfit to be a cleric, so he reclassed her to an Archer.
Of course, this left us with just one healer.
Gordin was reclassed to a curate, much to his dismay.
"But Maaaaaaaalllllleeeeeddduuuuussssss!"
Some say that more than one Heal Staff was thrown that day.
Malledus was spotted with a mysterious lump on his head later that day.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10401.png

I named the riderbane "Cane"
Jagen isn't the youngest anymore and could use the help after all.
I did some miscellaneous inventory management, we'll deploy the units seen above for this chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29537.png

Our formation.
Bord, Cord and Darros are warming the bench for this chapter.
Cord may have set the bench on fire, actually.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9287.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27542.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8019.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24593.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24363.png

Hardin and the Wolfguard have joined our side.
(The Wolfguard might actually not be established yet during the time that Shadow Dragon takes place.)
(Still, it's easier to refer to this group like that.)
We're also introduced to Nyna, princess of Akaneia.
People actually remember her, unlike Malledus.
She's hiding in the fort on the bottom screen.
Not that there are any consequences for letting an enemy occupy it.

Let's introduce our new units for today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28186.png

Vyland the valiant.
One of the cavaliers that are a part of the Wolfguard.
Roshea and him are best friends.
He apparantly goes on to beat Kris in a sparring match in FE12.
He has enamored the fanbase as a whole with his only line of dialogue in Shadow Dragon.
"Rrgh! Coyote..." ~Vyland

His bases.
20 HP
5 Str
0 Mag
3 Skill
6 Spd
2 Lck
7 Def
0 Res

He starts with an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Lances.
This allows him to throw a Javelin when needed.
Though he starts with a Steel Lance for some reason, which weighs him down by 4, giving him a pitiful 2 attack speed.

His growths
60% HP
30% Str
0% Mag
25% Skill
40% Spd
30% Lck
15% Def
0% Res

He's more useful than Matthis in this playthrough, at least.
Even if only because I get to actually use him.
He'll be placed on healing duty if he survives.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24432.png

Roshea, the rose of Aurelis.
Another cavalier who is a part of the Wolfguard.
They have rather low standards, don't they?
His portrait looked a little off in Akaneia Saga.
He has only one line in the game, just like Vyland.
"Unnh! Coyote..." ~Roshea

His bases
22 HP
6 Str
0 Mag
5 Skill
7 Spd
4 Lck
7 Def
0 Res

He has the same weapon ranks as his brother-in-arms, Vyland.
Which means that he has Javelin utility, if nothing else.
He can also trade one of his weapons to Vyland to protect him from getting doubled.
Unless the enemy cavaliers and archers have 10 speed.

His growths
90% HP
40% Str
0% Mag
55% Skill
10% Spd
10% Lck
20% Def
0% Res

He might get reclassed to an archer if he survives.
His growths are decent, but that 10% speed growth really stings.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27212.png

Sedgar, the promoted potential.
A pre promoted horseman with stellar growths but low bases.
"Assistant" to Wolf, apparantly.
His quote is in line with everyone else's.
"Nngh! Coyote..." ~Sedgar

His bases
20 HP
6 Str
1 Mag
6 Skill
7 Spd
2 Lck
6 Def
2 Res

He comes with an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Bows.
There aren't really any notable weapons he can use at the moment.
Chip damage is nice, though.
Do note that the Steel Bow has 8 weight, weighing him down by 2 points of speed.
This brings his attack speed to 5.

His growths
160% HP
80% Str
0% Mag
95% Skill
85% Spd
30% Lck
85% Def
0% Res

Stellar growths.
He'll be fantastic if he survives.
Probably going to reclass him to a general.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30872.png

Wolf, purple perfectionist.
He follows the pattern of being higher leveled than his companions, just like Roshea.
Commander of the Wolfguard, his name is literally in there.
His quote follows the known pattern.
"Agh! Coyote..." ~Wolf

His bases
22 HP
8 Str
0 Mag
6 Skill
8 Spd
5 Lck
6 Def
1 Res

He has the same weapon ranks as Sedgar.
Sedgar and Wolf are fairly similar.
I think that Sedgar has a slight edge due to being able to get two extra levels compared to Wolf.

His growths
160% HP
100% Str
0% Mag
85% Skill
85% Spd
50% Lck
65% Def
0% Res

I plan to make Wolf a general too.
Or perhaps a Hero.
Or a sorcerer for the memes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24139.png

Hardin, Coyote.
The best unit among the group of newcomers.
Hardin is the brother of the king of Aurelis.
He also directly commands the Wolfguard
Sharing his death quote here would be unfitting, especially since he actually has other dialogue in the game.
He's 31 years old, apparantly, and also the only playable Fire Emblem character to wear a turban.

His bases
24 HP
9 Str
0 Mag
7 Skill
8 Spd
3 Lck
8 Def
1 Res

He comes with a D Rank in Swords and a B Rank in Lances.
This allows him to wield Javelins, Ridersbanes and Silver Lances at base.
His bases are really good.
He would probably outclass Jagen if I'd instantly promote him at level 10.

His growths
50% HP
30% Str
0% Mag
55% Skill
55% Spd
30% Lck
20% Def
0% Res

His growths are very balanced.
I've reclassed him in other runs before, a Bishop Hardin with capped speed is rather amusing.
He'll be good no matter which class you give him, though physical ones are preferred.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31572.png

Barst is going to lure one of the enemy cavaliers.
He wanted to use the Devil Axe at first, but Wrys talked him out of it.
"A hit from the enemy combined with a blow from that cursed axe will be beyond healing."
He equipped the Steel Axe instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1911.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26938.png

Vyland recieved an Iron Sword from his good friend Roshea.
Wolf is standing in range of one of the archers to damage them a bit.
The forest should cover him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10207.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7378.png

Ogma attacks the cavalier that Barst wounded and smoothly dodges the counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21828.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10301.png

Zas and Nabarl finished him off.
You could hear Gordin laugh in the distance when Zas did such pitiful damage with her attack.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13267.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22333.png

Jagen poked the right cavalier with his cane, destroying him instantly.
He reached an A Rank in Lances, which means that he gets to wield the Gradivus if he manages to live until then.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24427.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24786.png

Shiida easily destroyed the remaining cavalier, gaining a typical level after the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31547.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19156.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20351.png

Barst gets healed by Gordin and Ida.
He then waits in range of the enemy pegasus knight.
You would think that he's going to get doubled by her becuase she has 13 speed...
Luckily, she gets weighed down by her Steel Lance, so all is well.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14154.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28147.png

Wolf retreats to the fort and trades his Iron Bow to Sedgar.
Sedgar then proceeds to occupy the place where Wolf stood moments before.
Roshea, Hardin and Vyland inch to the left, planning to run around the incoming group of enemies using the left path.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20879.png

Zas helps by shooting the wounded pegasus knight down.
Her damage is pretty bad, but she still contributes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23272.png

Jagen takes another cavalier down with his almighty Cane.
Shiida plans to take the other cavalier down who is currently residing just past the bridge to the left.
She couldn't reach, however.
So she blocked his path instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__386.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26675.png

Gordin heals Barst a little.
Ida raises his eyebrow at Gordin's shoddy healing abilities and shows him who's boss.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32085.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6209.png

Barst, Ogma, Nabarl and Wrys surrounded the archer.
Only Nabarl and Wrys attacked.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22199.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21267.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18031.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17406.png

Marth confessed his doubts to the Pope.
The holy man agreed to help Marth in his endeavor if Marth helped him defeat Gharnef.
Marth promised to help.
He won't break his promise, but he might bend it...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20892.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11855.png

Marth handed the Excalibur tome to Wendell solemnly
No more words were exchanged.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32317.png

Wendell, pontifex of Khadein.
Wearer of fancy hats.
He has no taste for war, but is somehow very experienced in the arts of combat.
He's ridiculously fast for no reason whatsoever.

His bases
22 HP
3 Str
4 Mag
2 Skill
12 Spd
1 Lck
5 Def
5 Res

He starts with a B Rank in Tomes and a D Rank in Staves.
This gives him access to all usable tomes in the game, including the mighty Excalibur.
His Staff Rank gives him the ability to use Heal, Mend and Barrier.

His growths
40% HP
0% Str
20% Mag
20% Skill
20% Spd
40% Lck
0% Def

He has the same speed growth as Ida.
Wendell is very much a unit who relies on his bases to get far in life.
His speed is excellent and he can take a hit.
That's all that matters on Hard 5.
Excalibur is nice, of course.
He'll be put to good use while he's around.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14418.png

Wendell obtained an old Fire tome from the convoy.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14506.png

Sedgar retreated and traded the Iron Bow back to Wolf.
They should be safe for a bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26440.png

Hardin's squad retreated back to the right side of their starting location.
A pegasus knight approaches who is capable of one rounding them all.
The plan is to shoot her down on the next player phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23079.png

Jagen protects the village from the two thieves.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7248.png

Shiida takes another life with that almighty Win Spear of hers.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__184.png

Barst softens the archer up for Zas to take out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8524.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10967.png

It seems that she's taken a liking to her new class after all.
She's already dreaming of using the Parthia one day.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3664.png

Ending positions for this turn

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24011.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21271.png

The pegasus knight has been defeated thanks to the combined efforts of Sedgar and Wolf.
Everyone there will wait one more turn before joining Marth's group.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5029.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19860.png

Marth takes one thief down, Jagen the other.
Marth was just 1 experience away from another level after the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22063.png

Everyone is waiting for the enemy to approach.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23962.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22099.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10027.png

Wendell, Ogma and Nabarl took care of the knight.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3015.png

Nabarl got a level for his troubles.
He now has the most defense of the whole army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32763.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1787.png

Wrys and Shiida damaged this archer for a bit while trapping him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10774.png

Jagen got some healing from Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12193.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19676.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15429.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26282.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21453.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1248.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4061.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15669.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3952.png

Marth visited the village and acquired a Firestone.
I wonder if that villager happened to see Bantu in Pyrathi.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31339.png

Hardin's group is running to safety.
I'm honestly suprised that they're still alive.
They're usually all dead within the first three turns.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__805.png

The archer felt the burn while attacking Wendell.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32740.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10516.png

Ogma got special treatment from Gordin and Ida.
Ida and Gordin don't really get along.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25258.png

Everyone seems to be surviving today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7207.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27620.png

The wounds of our holy man have been treated.
Ida and Gordin are both close to gaining a level.
They will settle who is the best curate depending on who gains speed.

Shiida is a menace.
She defeated the boss, preventing any reinforcements from spawning.
She obtained his Silver Lance and got another typical level.

Marth had a talk with Hardin.
It's bittersweet if you know what comes next.
They'll both be listed in the history books, at least...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14590.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28878.png

Wendell and Nabarl take the archer out with exact damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21100.png

Barst gets in front of Nabarl to protect him from the knight.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23080.png

Shiida gets healed by Ida to bring him in range of getting a level next turn together with Gordin.
Who will win their competition?
We'll see soon enough.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22681.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23749.png

Gordin heals Sedgar, Ida heals Shiida.
They both get a level...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5461.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2874.png

Ida won the competition, gaining speed once again.
Gordin argued that he actually won due to gaining more stats, but the competition was about gaining speed.
Enraged, Gordin attacked Ida with his Heal Staff.
Ida dodged due to his higher speed and doubled Gordin on the counter.
They both did 0 damage, of course.
Gordin ran off, yelling about how this wasn't over!
He couldn't stand losing to a generic.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14461.png

Zas was harassing a lone enemy  curate to gain a level herself.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29185.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32765.png

Wendell helped the knight pass on to the other side.
He was blessed with a Door Key for his efforts.
This will come in handy for the next chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27420.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23669.png

Ida attacked the last remaining enemy for two turns straight, she then gained a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23164.png

Things are going well for our generics.
Barring Ossa, may he rest in peace.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27553.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21041.png

Wrys swooped in to get the kill, putting the last remaining enemy to rest.
He reached a D Rank in Swords for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23927.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6133.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18421.png

Marth seized, ending the map and meeting Hardin's brother, the king of Aurelis.
That concludes this chapter.

It went suprisingly well, no casualties for once.
We did have some fun moments of banter.

The current death count is still 9.

Chapter 5 has been completed.
I look forward to collecting all the treasure in chapter 6.
Thank you all for reading.

Another update shall appear tomorrow.

Another wild class change, with Malledus showing his malice against the memey Gordin

I named the riderbane "Cane"
Jagen isn't the youngest anymore and could use the help after all.

In honor of the fallen Cain... It also makes me think of this LoTR scene.

We're also introduced to Nyna, princess of Akaneia.
People actually remember her, unlike Malledus.

To be fair she has a tragic tale that continues into the next game (and she is technically playable in that game as well...)

He has enamored the fanbase as a whole with his only line of dialogue in Shadow Dragon.
"Rrgh! Coyote..." ~Vyland

Poor Vyland is so obscure that I once got into a debate about whether him, or one of the sable order crew that only appear in one of the Settelaview maps and New Mystery was the least memorable Archanean character...

Stellar growths.
He'll be fantastic if he survives.
Probably going to reclass him to a general.

I plan to make Wolf a general too.
Or perhaps a Hero.
Or a sorcerer for the memes.

The classic FE11 game breakers are here to carry you. Hopefully they can lead you to victory in this run.

Barst is going to lure one of the enemy cavaliers.
He wanted to use the Devil Axe at first, but Wrys talked him out of it.
"A hit from the enemy combined with a blow from that cursed axe will be beyond healing."
He equipped the Steel Axe instead.

Poor Wrys had to talk him off that dangerous ledge. Poor Barst was going down that subtly suicidal path where they take small repeated risks like not wearing seatbelts...

Jagen protects the village from the two thieves.

Knowing this is one of the games that makes Thieves aggressive when they can't reach their raiding target, seeing you block it off made me worry one of those thieves would suprise kill someone (like Marth) using their high speed and movement.

Shiida is a menace.
She defeated the boss, preventing any reinforcements from spawning.

That is another boss where Shiida manages to lives the boss hit on 1. The numbers are almost too perfect with her bulk.

Ida won the competition, gaining speed once again.

Now that is down right embarrassing for Gordin. Even if he managed to level speed on every level until he matches Ida's he still would be losing in the speed department...TO A GENERIC

He'll be responsible for many more.

That makes me wonder, I've read that she gets devoured if you don't save her.
I've never seen footage of that, though.

I would love to see that debate sometime.

I only left Jagen and Marth in their range.
I checked if Marth could survive them beforehand, they had no crit against him, so all was well.
Jagen would have even survived if they had crit all of their attacks.
...I think.

She'll always be useful, even while slightly underleveled.

That's the Shadow Dragon life.
The generics will have it much worse with their luck perpetually at 0.

Let's not forget that Ida is in the top percentage of generics.

We've arrived at chapter 6.
An indoor chapter with a lot of treasure.
It's also the only chapter in which we can acquire the Master Key item.

We'll meet one new unit during this chapter.
He's the last of his kind, so I'd better keep him alive.

Current death count: 9
Names of the fallen by chapter.

Chapter 2: Draug and Castor
Chapter 3: Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
Chapter 4: Ossa, Matthis and Merric.

Chapter 6

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30069.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29544.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30893.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22776.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24440.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11971.png

We have Malledus stealing war funds, but that doesn't count.
Marth won't become a royal thief until after this chapter.
Still, I have a plan.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19888.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27376.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__967.png

Jagen was reclassed back to a paladin to better deal with the upcoming archers.
Sedgar became a general to get the snowball rolling.
Wolf became the hero we needed but didn't deserve.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2922.png

Gordin pleaded with Malledus to be reclassed back to an archer, but his wish wasn't granted.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21052.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10247.png

I bought one Heal Staff for Wendell.
I gave Wrys the Door Key since he won't be fighting much during this chapter.
I also did some other less important inventory management.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7570.png

Our final deployment formation
We left Vyland, Roshea, Hardin, Bord and Darros on the bench.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14110.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7966.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8102.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12583.png

He never withdraws, no matter how long you take.
I might not be able to get most treasure, since my original strategy used the almighty Warp Staff.
I'll just have to play a little better, which should go well enough.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19782.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10545.png

This is why Wrys got the Door Key.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24073.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6502.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32402.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23159.png

We've recruited Rickard.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28926.png

Rickard is a walking Master Key.
He's Julian, but worse.

His bases
16 HP
4 Str
0 Mag
2 Skill
9 Spd
0 Lck
3 Def
0 Res

He starts with an E Rank in Swords.
I won't be using this guy for fighting.

His growths
50% HP
50% Str
0% Mag
30% Skill
50% Spd
40% Lck
10% Def
2% Res

He'll become decent when trained.
I've never trained him up myself, though.

Also, this turn ended with Ogma in range of the enemy knight.
I know, I should have put Shiida there instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2421.png

Ogma reached a B Rank in Swords from countering this knight.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23518.png

Rickard made himself useful and got us a small Bullion.
More gold is always appreciated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16744.png

Ogma was healed by our supremely fast curate, Ida.
Gordin was out of range and couldn't contribute.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10729.png

Shiida pierced the knight that wounded Ogma.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22197.png

Wendell waits in range of the enemy mage, ready to take him out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18521.png

The thief acquired a Seraph Robe.
We'll be taking that back in a bit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19082.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16652.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7924.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22246.png

I decided to go on the offensive to get my hands on the treasure.
Wendell defeated one knight, Shiida the other.
Jagen harmed the archer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14402.png

...And now we're here.
I've set myself up for this.
I have to defeat the archer, which I planned to do with Nabarl.
He could survive both of the archers on top hitting him.
He doesn't kill the bottom archer, though.
Only Wolf can.
Wolf will die on the next enemy phase no matter what.
It's either only him or every one of my good units.
I will also have to block the doorway up.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15877.png

Wolf was sent on a suicide mission, taking the archer with him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7908.png

Nabarl blocked the doorway, poking the enemy curate for a bit.
He gained a Lance Rank, meaning that he can now use Javelins.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19690.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18840.png

Wendell was mended by Ida.
Ogma was healed by Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19659.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4967.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23331.png

More stolen items to recollect.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19631.png

Wolf fell in battle, one more soul paying for the strategic mistakes of Malledus.
His sacrifice kept everyone else safe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2941.png

Barst took the curate out with a safe weapon.
No Devil Axe today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2993.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12397.png

Nabarl and Cord ganged up on the Physic thief.
He still had some health left after the onslaught.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__159.png

Jagen moved out of the way to make room for another attacker.
He pursued the thief holding the Angelic Robe and hit him hard with his Silver Lance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2440.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9280.png

Wrys took the place once occupied by Jagen, landing the killing blow.
He got a lucky level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3573.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21677.png

Wendell attacked the archer and was mended by Ida right after.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8366.png

Sedgar went for the killing blow, avenging Wolf.
...He missed.
His mistake leaves Wendell right open to be killed on the next turn...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6429.png

He was only hit once, however.
The enemy then used some questionable tactics to attack Nabarl instead, who also survived.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9133.png

Ida the swift tended to Wendell's wounds.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19665.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18840.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16802.png

Nabarl, Sedgar and Barst took care of one of the cavaliers.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15802.png

Barst gained a decent level for his trouble.
He's usually long dead by now in my runs.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30664.png

Wendell made splendid use of the opening provided to him.
The enemy archer was burned to ash by the benevolent Pope.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__401.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13195.png

Shiida deleted the last cavalier with her Win Spear and stole his Master Key.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2577.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29136.png

Jagen ended someone's career in thievery and got a Seraph Robe for his troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9869.png

Gordin healed Nabarl before the end of the turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31389.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31169.png

Nabarl's health was fully replenished on the next turn.
Ida even gained a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17666.png

Blasphemy.
He did not gain speed.
The whole army was shocked to hear this news.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10411.png

Shiida blocks the last thief, setting him up for Zas.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22951.png

She got a level from countering.
I would really love some strength...
Though she'll carry my run anyway.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24057.png

Zas got a kill, refusing to fall behind everyone else.
She obtained the Armorslayer for her troubles.
I will try my best to field Ida and Zas on every map.
Though I can't say how useful Zas will end up being.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23015.png

Gordin healed Sedgar, inching closer to gaining a new level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8032.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26458.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14761.png

Wrys did some item management.
He's also clearly the best unit for the Seraph Robe.
Now he can take a hit agin.
I am aware that this would have helped Jagen much more.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10675.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13216.png

Gordin healed Jagen for two turns straight.
He couldn't wait to see what his new level would give him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6888.png

...This isn't helping with Gordin's inferiority complex.
He'll never surpass Ida at this pace.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23635.png

Wrys was healed by Ida.
He gave Ida a compliment, noting that he's improving rapidly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24313.png

I put Marth in range to lure the enemy knight.
He'll survive a blow just fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15430.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1746.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2373.png

Marth failed to do damage, not even gaining one point of experience.
Gordin and Ida rushed to his aid, healing his wounds right away.
Ida reached a C rank in Staves.
He now has access to the almighty Warp Staff.
The gap between him and Gordin grows ever wider...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32604.png

Jagen throws a Javelin at the knight to gain another level.
Sedgar chokes the point.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31158.png

Jagen is showing no signs of slowing down.
Another point of speed means more chapters of not getting doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13818.png

Sedgar stepped back and got healed by Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31649.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1542.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13505.png

Cord and Marth teamed up to take care of the knight.
Marth wanted his level so badly that he wasted two Rapier uses to get it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24320.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7263.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20892.png

Marth was treated by the two men of the cloth.
Gordin reached a D Rank in Staves.
He's getting there.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17609.png

Ogma and Nabarl are going to bait the two archers during the next enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25035.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22933.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11888.png

Wrys slashed the archer first, then looked at Ogma to get some advice.
Ogma commended the old man for his fast fighting style.
He then displayed his own fighting technique.
One firm slash, strong enough to sever a limb.
The archer staggered backward, horrified.
Ogma gained a level for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16677.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17254.png

Marth swooped in to deal another crippling blow to the wounded archer before Zas took him out with one precise shot.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__758.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20729.png

Nabarl deals an impressive blow to the right archer, leaving him wide open for his comrades to attack.
He gains a level, now having the highest HP of any of the unpromoted units in the army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25030.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7182.png

Shiida helped to weaken the archer to give Rickard the opportunity to fight as well.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20377.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21633.png

The healing squad took care of Ogma.
Gordin spun his Staff around and tried to perform a critical heal.
Suffice to say, that didn't work.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21275.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11145.png

Nabarl was treated by Ida and Gordin.
Both are once again one heal away from gaining another level.
They made another wager.
The one who doesn't gain speed will have to help Zas out with her archery practice.
Which includes being a moving target and having an apple shot from the top of your head.
Nothing will happen if they both happen to gain speed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28925.png

Barst got into position to lure the enemy knight during the coming enemy phase.
He tried to equip the Devil Axe again, but he got a stern lecture from Jagen about the foolishness of taking unecessary risks.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4638.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__307.png

Wendell took care of the knight, becoming more resistant for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1977.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25571.png

Gordin and Ida healed Barst, both anxious to see what their levels hold.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22345.png

Gordin gained speed and magic, a beautiful level for a curate.
Ida was just two points of experience short on gaining a level...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7714.png

Nabarl got into position to lure both the enemy knight and archer into attacking him.
He will survive on just 2 HP.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6512.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2776.png

Ida healed Nabarl and gained his level.
No speed.
Gordin is ecstatic.
Ida is irate.
He still has the speed advantage, though.
He'll get back at Gordin, if he survives being a living target for Zas, of course.

Cord flexes some magical muscle and deals 7 damage to the enemy knight.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26533.png

Nabarl retreats and gets some magical relief from Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23430.png

The knight gets chopped by Barst.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16116.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6694.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28681.png

The archer gets shot down by Zas after being cut by both Ogma's blade and Rickard's butter knife.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__482.png

Wendell puts himself in harm's way, though he should survive unless he gets crit or crits whoever attacks him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20503.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28232.png

Wrys and Zas defeat the mage.
Zas is so close to getting another level, I wonder what she'll get...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24693.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11808.png

Barst is healed up fully before taking his next action.
He's feeling bold...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31038.png

DEVIL AXE

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22902.png

The backfire would have killed him were it not for Ida and Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10611.png

Wendell went up to heal him, giving him a lecture quite similar to the one he got from Jagen a few turns ago.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21339.png

Zas attacked the enemy curate, filled with anticipation for her next level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__72.png

She was shocked.
Hit with the realization that she might become useless in the very near future...

Some say that that was the beginning of her depression.
Zas was eerily quiet for the remainder of the chapter...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31234.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18947.png

Gordin healed Sedgar.
Ida healed Barst.

And so ends another turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9826.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24663.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26801.png

Rickard attacks the curate for two turns, gaining a pretty good level for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__677.png

Wrys took him out in two quick blows.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25605.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18953.png

Wendell softens the boss up for Shiida.
This boss could have retreated, but he wasted his opportunity.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11951.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9882.png

Shiida does the usual.
The boss is no more.
Shiida gets his Master Key
Marth runs up and seizes the throne.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20344.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23662.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12937.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15922.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8824.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3157.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17762.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17983.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20422.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7754.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__803.png

Marth recieves the Fire Emblem from princess Nyna.
Basically a glorified infinite use Chest Key.
Then again, Chest Keys don't exist in Shadow Dragon.

They also mention Anri, Marth's ancestor.
There'll probably never be a game with him as the protagonist, since the legends say that he beat Medeus alone.
Or, that he did his whole journey alone.

This was a fun chapter.
We got a lot of loot.
But also one death.
Rest in peace, Wolf.

The death counter has now increased to 10.
Wolf will be added to the names of the fallen in the next post.

This chapter went quite well.
We'll have some more gold to spend on new wacky forges in chapter 7.

Well then, we'll continue our adventure in tomorrow's post.

That is a hard trade to make, although

Nabarl blocked the doorway, poking the enemy curate for a bit.
He gained a Lance Rank, meaning that he can now use Javelins.

it looks like you could have moved Nabarl one space further up to block the space the second archer would need to kill Wolf, and with the Shadow Dragon AI going for damage, the archers would split their attacks. Then again without noticing

Sedgar went for the killing blow, avenging Wolf.

His mistake leaves Wendell right open to be killed on the next turn...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6429.png

He was only hit once, however.
The enemy then used some questionable tactics to attack Nabarl instead, who also survived.

the enemy movement order would make the steel lance cav block up the space the silver lance one would need for the kill (like what happened here), it would still look like a dead Nabarl, and a possibly another death to the other cav...

Wrys slashed the archer first, then looked at Ogma to get some advice.
Ogma commended the old man for his fast fighting style.
He then displayed his own fighting technique.
One firm slash, strong enough to sever a limb.
The archer staggered backward, horrified.

Another nice little scene, that also gives a strong sense of the differences between Myrmidons and Mercenaries in this game, using the icon duo of Ogma and Wrys.

...Nabal? What does that cavalier have to do with any of this?

The one who doesn't gain speed will have to help Zas out with her archery practice.
Which includes being a moving target and having an apple shot from the top of your head.
Nothing will happen if they both happen to gain speed.

No speed.
Gordin is ecstatic.
Ida is irate.
He still has the speed advantage, though.
He'll get back at Gordin, if he survives being a living target for Zas, of course.

That would have still been a risky move.
Nabarl would have had a chance to die if the enemies were to gang up on him.
Then, either the Silver Lance or Steel Lance cavalier could swoop in and take someone else out.
Either way, there were going to be deaths.

I assumed that Marth would be able to at least do some damage without it.
I was mistaken.

We have reached chapter 7.
It's a notorious chapter for me, mostly since it's the first chapter with reinforcements.
It doesn't help that they carry both Javelins and Ridersbanes...

We'll recruit one new character during this chapter.
He's one of the oldest characters in the series.

Current death count: 10
Names of the fallen by chapter

Chapter 2: Draug and Castor.
Chapter 3: Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
Chapter 4: Ossa, Matthis and Merric.
Chapter 6: Wolf.

I won't talk about them much, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6474.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8565.png

Jagen was reclassed back to a dracoknight to provide aerial support.
Gordin pleaded to Malledus once more, but he was slapped down by the old man...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11674.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5777.png

Rickard developed a crush on Zas during the last chapter.
He wanted to suprise her with a gift, especially after seeing her so depressed when the chapter concluded.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17868.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__422.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6564.png

He had heard whispers of her wish to one day wield one of the regalia of Akaneia.
Rickard used the funds he acquired from selling the bullion to forge a special bow.
The "Parthizas"

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13945.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6972.png

He handed the bow to her and promised to cover her during their next battle.
The dour expression on her face was lifted.
Zas gleefully accepted the forged bow, swearing that this would be the beginning of her legend.
She immediatly ran off to practice with it, leaving Rickard behind all alone...
"...Next time" he muttered.

Zas tracked Ida down, he had to keep his word and help her because he lost the wager he made with Gordin in chapter 6.
Ida begrudgingly visited the sick bay later that day, with many arrows sticking out of him.
He got healed up by Gordin, who thought it was hilarious.

We await the incoming enemy flyers during the first two turns.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27057.png

Wendell takes the dracoknight down, making our starting area a little safer again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20363.png

Everyone is in position.
Wendell has a chance of death if they gang up on him.
Though one will probably go for Wrys, who will also survive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17275.png

Wendell recieves a vision from the heavens and dodges a fatal hit.
His life has been preserved by faith alone.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15774.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14859.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32307.png

Sedgar and Nabarl set the incoming thief up for Zas.
...She sadly misses.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22432.png

Rickard swoops in to save his damsel in distress.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8990.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7428.png

Wendell retreats to the heal boys.
He's happy to still be alive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12065.png

Everyone waits around for a bit because those archers need to be taken out in just one turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31373.png

Zas was feeling bold and decided to take a shot at the Medonian princess.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20333.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13845.png

She was defeated, but she can't fall here!
She withdrew and the Whitewings followed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29240.png

Malledus came up with a strategy to defeat those archers and mercenaries.
"Just keep throwing soldiers at them until they die."
Rickard jumped in.
"Ye'll be needing a thief to open that door, oldie."
"I'll open that door over there, then Nabarl, sir Jagen, sir Wrys, Ogma and Shiida will sweep them all up."
"We'll be relying on 'ol Cord and Wendell here for backup"
"Sounds fair?"
"Let's do it!"

Malledus was left scratching his head as his plan was swept aside by that scheming little thief...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19888.png

Rickard easily unlocked the door.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11028.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9522.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6888.png

Cord turned what remained of him to ash.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31938.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__183.png

Jagen and Shiida weakened the archer for Nabarl to take out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24832.png

Shiida gained a fantastic level and actually got strength!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__410.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2460.png

Nabarl threw a Javelin, but he missed.
Wendell had to finish the job.
Nabarl is wounded, but I'm sure that he'll be fine during the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27034.png

Nabarl survived the enemy phase with just one HP remaining.
He threw a Javelin at the frightening mercenary.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__323.png

Ogma asserted his dominance by wounding the right enemy mercenary.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29774.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2636.png

Jagen and Wendell knocked the mercenary down a peg, but he still lived.

Wendell grew resistance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3477.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6786.png

How lucky that we would happen to have a Firestone on us.
Anyhow, we gained a new unit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7318.png

Bantu is quite old.
It's said that he's still around during the Awakening days.
He may seem weak, but you would be suprised.

His bases
20 HP
2 Str
0 Mag
3 Skill
4 Spd
1 Lck
3 Def
1 Res

They look pretty awful, don't they?
His weapon, the Firestone, gives him some invisible buffs.
We would be able to see them in New Mystery, but alas, not here.
The Firestone gives + 8 Str, + 4 Skill,  +4 Spd, + 9 Def and + 4 Res.

Let's show his bases with the stone equipped.
20 HP
10 Str
0 Mag
7 Skill
8 Spd
1 Lck
12 Def
5 Res

This makes him decently bulky.
Let's also take a look at his growths.

His growths
40% HP
20% Str
10% Mag
20% Skill
10% Spd
10% Lck
10% Def
0% Res

He has the worst growths in the game, not counting generics.
He also cannot change classes or promote.
We can't use the promotion glitch on him in this game to give him infinite defense like in FE1, sadly.
His Firestone is limited and cannot be bought.
We'll get another one in chapter 17, but that's pretty far away.
That aside, it's a very strong weapon with 15 might.
I'll try to use him for fun.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4178.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10265.png

Nabarl was healed by Ida, Gordin and Wendell.
Both Ida and Gordin will get another level with their next heal.
They made the usual bet.
Whoever gains speed will be the first to use the Warp Staff in this run.
If they both gain speed, then nothing happens.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21296.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6091.png

Both Ida and Gordin healed Ogma for their next level, eagerly anticipating their next level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28616.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17.png

Neither got speed, so their bet remained unfulfilled.
Ida seems to be losing his edge, was his growth in speed only a fluke?
Or has he gotten complacent?
Time will tell...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22848.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16098.png

2 turns of walking later...

Jagen attacked an enemy curate and blocked a fort.
Shiida and Sedgar blocked two other forts, only leaving one unoccupied for reinforcements to spawn on.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1245.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12025.png

Sedgar dodged twice during the enemy phase and the cavalier dodged his counter.
Sedgar retreated from the fort to make room for Wendell.
He damaged the cavalier just enough for Barst to finish him off.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16632.png

Cord was attacked and doubled during the enemy phase.
He magically dodged both hits and crit the cavalier on his counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24594.png

Barst defeated the cavalier with an unecessary crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8751.png

He became a little luckier and is itching to use the Devil Axe again...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30347.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32396.png

Wendell defeated one of the knights.
Bantu destroyed the other with a crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6074.png

Nabarl is advancing, ready to occupy the fort on the next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14161.png

Ida healed Barst from the mountain, potentially being in range of one of the reinforcements later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23321.png

No reinforcements came.
Nabarl occupied the fort.
All forts are now blocked.
Wendell was healed by our former archer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23620.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30380.png

Ida healed Barst, Gordin healed Wendell.
Gordin asked the Pope if he would be willing to tutor him in the ways of speed.
Wendell only shook his head and said that Gordin lacked the faith needed to succeed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25447.png

Zas shot a curate for some experience.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26702.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15237.png

Yes, we greatly outnumber you.
You also don't have a ranged weapon.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4750.png

Cord got a level.
He really needs to hit 7 speed to not get doubled for a while.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30742.png

I wanted to chip Harmein with Wendell and Cord before giving the kill to Bantu.
Wendell crit and destroyed the boss.
Of course, trying to chip with Excalibur is not the best way to go about things.
I somehow forgot to take a screenshot of that.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12679.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2371.png

Zas shot the curate down, reaching a D Rank in Bows.
Just three more ranks until she can use the real Parthia.

Look who came out of hiding, it's Malledus.
The Falchion is locked to Marth in this game, as is logical.
Though, Falchion does eventually go on to be wielded by a female character way later.
It would have been funny if Elice could wield it if reclassed to a myrmidon.
But alas, it isn't so.

This chapter had 0 deaths.
Though we got very close, not once, but twice.
Both Wendell and Cord could have died if the RNG fought against us.

Total death count: 10.

We managed to outsmart the enemy.
All will be well as long as we have faith, at least, that's what Wendell said.

We'll arrive in Port Warren tomorrow.
It'll be nice to do some shopping and relax.

Honestly, the biggest issue Bantu (and manaketes in the DS games, for that matter) has is that dragonstones lose uses even if they couldn't counter.

Rickard developed a crush on Zas during the last chapter.
He wanted to suprise her with a gift, especially after seeing her so depressed when the chapter concluded.

This little Ricakrd-Zas romance is really cute.

Neither got speed, so their bet remained unfulfilled.
Ida seems to be losing his edge, was his growth in speed only a fluke?
Or has he gotten complacent?
Time will tell...

I mean Ida still has enough of a lead that Gordin can't catch up until he passes Ida's level...

Sedgar dodged twice during the enemy phase and the cavalier dodged his counter.
Sedgar retreated from the fort to make room for Wendell.
He damaged the cavalier just enough for Barst to finish him off.

Cord was attacked and doubled during the enemy phase.
He magically dodged both hits and crit the cavalier on his counter.

It's not the best design, indeed.
It would have probably been better to just have your manaketes transform at the start of the chapter, consuming one use of their stone.
He'll have infinite uses by chapter 19, though.

Ida is really only ahead in speed and resistance.
It's still funny nontheless.
I might try and do a mostly generics run after this one concludes.

My luck has been all over the place during this playthrough.
Every Iron Man run goes different compared to the last.
Except the final chapter, I always cheese that one.

Gharnef could have mind controlled her while forcing her to fight Marth with the Falchion.
Now that would be interesting, wouldn't it?
Then they could have made Falchion a droppable item for defeating Elice.
Or you can save her by defeating Gharnef.
That way, there's already a bigger punishment for skipping Starlight and Gharnef.
You would lose out on the Falchion unless you kill Elice.
And it would lock you out of easily using the Aum Staff during the next chapter.

Another day, another chapter.
We'll be going through chapter 8.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29176.png

Our deployment formation is the same as usual.
The bench is occupied by Hardin, Roshea, Vyland, Darros, Bord, Rickard and Bantu.

Bantu would be pretty useful against the enemy knights, but I can't really justify bringing him.
Rickard wanted to be deployed to protect Zas, but Malledus benched him for foiling his plan during the last chapter.

Caesar and his mute friend, Radd, joined our group.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26708.png

This is Caesar, a mercenary in service of Port Warren.
He's intended to replace Ogma if he died.
So, Ogma but worse.

His bases
20 HP
5 Str

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25481.png

This is Radd, the myrmidon who joined with Caesar.
He became a meme recently, though he isn't that special.
I suppose that the lack of personality of most characters gives players the opportunity to craft their own stories for these beloved characters.
Like Caesar, he's intended to be a replacement for the myrmidon we got earlier, you remember the one.
He's an inferior Nabarl Wrys, as you can see.

His bases
18 HP

Caesar bought a Win Spear for Shiida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14964.png

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5644.png

Nabarl and Sedgar choke the point, patiently awaiting the incoming army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29416.png

Zas already positioned herself behind Nabarl to get some free shots in.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24221.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24853.png

Gordin healed Sedgar after he retreated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25494.png

Nabarl unequipped his weapon to avoid getting any critical hits on accident.
None of the enemies have ranged weapons and the archer are still two turns away.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28225.png

Zas fired her first shot of the day.
the army could hear Rickard cheering for her all the way from the bench.

I was wrong.
Oh so terribly wrong....
Nabarl's weapon triangle advantage reduced the damage he was recieving.
I forgot to take that into consideration.
Ida had enough speed to not get doubled, but he was oneshot.
Zas was doubled, her dream now shattered on the battlefield.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22243.png

We're in some trouble now...
Ida was the only person qualified enough to use the Warp Staff.
We wouldn't be able to warpskip even if someone else could wield it, Ida had the staff on him.
We'll have to choke the point again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8467.png

Jagen killed the guy who took Ida from us.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22266.png

Sedgar moved up and shot at another cavalier.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12435.png

Wendell crit the cavalier who took Zas from us.
The benchgang had to restrain Rickard from running onto the field to avenge Zas.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18385.png

Barst choked the point, together with Sedgar.
He chipped the left cavalier with his Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5160.png

Proper measures were taken to secure the area, even if someone else were to fall.
Let's see if we'll survive this enemy phase....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15965.png

Roger, you fool!
Why did you attack first?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__452.png

Actually, this is perfect!
He'll choke the point for us.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25193.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11550.png

Wendell healed Barst.
Malledus ordered Barst to disarm himself.
Barst was hesitant, especially after seeing Nabarl meet a terrible fate after doing just that.
Wrys padded his shoulder reassurringly.
"You'll be fine, my boy."
"But if this risk scares you so, which it should, then I will take your place."
"I cannot bear to see anyone else die today."
Barst was comforted, but also a little embarassed to have a feeble old man like Wrys offer to take this deadly risk.
He did what was asked of him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32644.png

Sedgar shot the upper cavalier.
He realized that continuing that on the coming turns would lead to the death of Barst.
So he decides to focus on the left cavalier instead during his next attacks.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18288.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28227.png

Barst was attacked by Roger during the enemy phase.
He just stood there and took it.
Sedgar shot the left cavalier.
The archers should eventually take his place.
They'll only be able to attack Sedgar from that position.

Gordin healed Barst, still shocked from what happened just moments before.
His rival, Ida, fell in battle.
He wanted to be happy about it.
But instead, he just felt lost.
The responsibility of keeping everyone healthy now rested solely on his shoulders.
Wendell could help too, but there is more need for his combat abilities today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2616.png

Barst takes another lance in the face, not moving an inch.
Barst will not move!

Gordin continues to heal Barst.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12380.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26260.png

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4530.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23481.png

Sedgar got rid of the left cavalier.
Wendell helped him equip his bow again for later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15732.png

Roger introduced himself to Marth.
Both his responses are very fitting for our situation.
We do need all the strong allies we can get, especially after our blunders just now.
Silence is also a valid option, especially while mourning the fallen or while silently judging someone like Roger..

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12998.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10904.png

Wendell attacked the archer, hoping for a crit with Excalibur.
That didn't happen.
He did gain skill and speed for his efforts, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2207.png

Jagen took the upper archer out with a strong Silver Lance hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16325.png

Wrys attacked the remaining archer for 10 damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__405.png

Barst ran in to get the kill.
No one else has enough power to take him out, so he has to use the Devil Axe.
Barst is thrilled to take this all-important gamble.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24533.png

His bad habits were his undoing.
Don't gamble, kids.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14105.png

Ogma ran in to try and crit the archer.
He didn't crit, so both Jagen and Shiida are in grave danger during the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29938.png

Malledus knew that both Shiida and Jagen were essential to our army.
So, he shoved Cord in range of the archer, hoping that he would be a juicier target.
He would have sacrificed Ida or Zas instead, but they already fell.
This decision was met with harsh criticism from the whole army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24230.png

Let's talk about our new unit, Roger.
We can enjoy one more moment of peace before tragedy hits during the coming enemy phase.
Roger is a knight.

I am kind of suprised by that ridiculous luck growth of his.
He'll have high strength and luck if trained.
I might use him.

Well then, time to see who meet with a terrible fate...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32260.png

Jagen has fallen.
His legend ended prematurely.
Losing him cripples my offense.
We still have Shiida, so we'll manage.
But...This is honestly pretty terrible.
I should have warpskipped while I had the chance.

We'll have to run to the boss and have Shiida deal with him before we get swarmed with reinforcements.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30447.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10172.png

I wanted to give Sedgar his first level, but it wasn't meant to be.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27415.png

Wrys defeated this murderer instead.
The morale of the whole army has dropped considerably.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26223.png

Gordin heals Roger a little.
He's anxious.
He feels the need to hurry and reach that C Rank in Staves to avoid a crisis like this in the future.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4121.png

Everyone advanced.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15415.png

Gordin healed Roger back to full health.
The whole army continued marching forward.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2041.png

Shiida waits here to kill the boss on the next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4626.png

Marth only needs two or three more turns of walking to reach the throne and seize.
Everyone is starting to feel uneasy.
Like there's evil looming just out of sight...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21152.png

I decided not to attack the boss with Shiida.
She wouldn't survive the counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16282.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19245.png

The army split down the middle.
Radd, Ogma, Caesar, Sedgar, Cord, Roger and Gordin retreated to the left, hoping to divert the pursuing army.

The elite group of Marth, Wendell, Shiida and Wrys ran to the right to confront the boss.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21919.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__184.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20014.png

The pursuing army chose to follow Marth's group.
Wendell went ahead and attacked the boss, taking him down with an Excalibur crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23612.png

Marth was relieved to finally seize the gate.
Though you have to wonder how the other half of the army is suddenly safe too.
Hmm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29246.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26851.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12135.png

Malledus appears again.
He advises us to seek refuge in Pyrathi.
He's right, it is too dangerous for us to stay here after what happened.
Of course, Pyrathi isn't Talys, they probably won't be thrilled to have us there.

I remember reading a topic about if this counts as an invasion of Pyrathi and all the moral and political consequences of this decision.
It was quite an interesting read.

Let's recap what happened during this chapter.
We recruited three new people.
Caesar, Radd and Roger.
We bought one extra Wing Spear for Shiida.

We had 5 casualties during this chapter.
Nabarl, Ida, Zas, Barst and Jagen.
This brings our total death counter to 15.
We may be weakened, but we're not defeated yet!

This chapter was certainly something.
A learning experience, perhaps.

I look forward to what tomorrow will bring.
Pyrathi, a place that's never mentioned again in the Akaneia games.

Oof, those blasted weapon rank bonuses threw everything out of wack. They really should be better explained in all the games they are in, as losing them when you have weapon triangle disadvantage is making those swords deal 3 more damage when unequipped (whereas Axe's would be dealing the same damage, or only +1 if at A rank with advantage...)

Poor Gordin, although Rickard must be suffering even more from Zas's loss...

NOOOO, oh poor Barst, if only ot didn't backfire he could have saved Shiida, now she is going to die a horrible arrow filled dea-

I should have warpskipped while I had the chance.

...or Jagen dies that arrow filled death. Terrible, but at least you still have Shiida and her brokenly good Win Spear.

I decided not to attack the boss with Shiida.
She wouldn't survive the counter.

If only she had gotten one more level of HP or defense...

Wendell went ahead and attacked the boss, taking him down with an Excalibur crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23612.png

Marth was relieved to finally seize the gate.
Though you have to wonder how the other half of the army is suddenly safe too.
Hmm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29246.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26851.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12135.png

Malledus appears again.
He advises us to seek refuge in Pyrathi.
He's right, it is too dangerous for us to stay here after what happened.
Of course, Pyrathi isn't Talys, they probably won't be thrilled to have us there.

This is one of the first times I have seen this chapter going poorly enough at the end that Malledus's retreat strategy sounds reasonable, as things were really looking grim after that much death...

And he keeps getting away with it.

Its funny how much more invested I got in the generics, that this feels like the greater loss...

I really did enjoy writing stories and personalities for them.
I may be able to pull some strings and have one of them return in the future, provided that the Aum Staff works on generics.
But we'll see what happens when we get there.

He wants revenge on all of Grust and Doluna for taking her from him.

Retreat would be wise, as Bantu would say.
This chapter just goes to show that mistakes can snowball into many deaths.

Chapter 9 is upon us.
Marth arrives in Pyrathi.
We'll acquire one new member during this chapter, provided that we make it in time.

Marth's army entered these lands uninvited.
A tough battle awaits us all.

Current death count: 15
Names of the fallen by chapter

Chapter 2: Draug and Castor.
Chapter 3: Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
Chapter 4: Ossa, Matthis and Merric.
Chapter 6: Wolf.
Chapter 8: Nabarl, Ida, Zas, Barst and Jagen.

Chapter 9

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9976.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22980.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19189.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12246.png

Marth's army had no choice but to flee to Pyrathi after the last battle.
It has been referred to as "The slaughter in Port Warren".
Another battle awaits our wounded army, will they prevail?
Or will their dreams end, just like five of our precious comrades the chapter before?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6212.png

Radd was reclassed to a curate, since Ida is no longer with us.
His combat abilities won't help us much during this chapter.
He'll have some extra bulk if he's reclassed to a cavalier, but that leaves him with 5 speed.
That would get him doubled by every single enemy in this chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6267.png

Hardin is reclassed to a myrmidon.
He'll get just enough speed from this to double the pirates while retaining enough bulk to take a hit.
Reminder that this is a base Hardin.
He will need to hold an Iron Sword, he wouldn't be able to double the pirates otherwise.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6348.png

Roger has astonishing speed when reclassed.
This will easily let him double the pirates.
He would even be able to retain his doubling potential while weighed down by a Steel Sword.
He can't wield one at the moment, sadly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13820.png

Caesar will be unable to double the enemy pirates no matter how I reclass him.
He decided to become a hunter to provide long-range support.
Zas reminded him of his ill sister, so he's trying to fulfill her wish in her stead.
Luckily, the Parthizas can be used by anyone capable of using bows, be it beginner or master.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26304.png

Wendell will be able to double every pirate thanks to his speed level in the last chapter.
He can Excalibur the enemy in a pinch.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14955.png

This is our deployment formation for today.
Rickard refuses to ever sit on the bench again, so he'll be fielded in every single chapter from now on.
Some say that he threatened Malledus to let him go.
Malledus didn't mind too much, if he wanted to die out there so badly, why stop him?
Besides, he's needed for the chests here.
Bantu is here because he can take a hit and does decent damage.

The bench is warmed by Vyland, Roshea and Bord.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20661.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20581.png

It seems that we're not getting a warm welcome....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26200.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3945.png

Rickard opens the door, convincing the pirates to take the land route toward us.
Marth, Radd and Wrys head right to visit the village.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5542.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30737.png

Two pirates with Hand Axes approach us.
Caesar awaits them with Zas's legacy in hand.
Rickard originally wanted to hold on to it himself, but he reluctantly allowed Caesar to borrow it for the greater good of the army.
Wrys waits in range of an incoming pirate.
He steadies his blade in anticipation.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17692.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17927.png

Caesar and Wrys survived the ordeal, though they can't handle much more...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31830.png

Ogma is our strongest unit in this chapter.
Capable of wielding the Silver Sword while still doubling every pirate.
He reduced the HP of the enemy to 1.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6822.png

Caesar took him out with one shot, no hesitation.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30377.png

Gordin healed him partially right after.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3512.png

Wendell defeated the other pirate with exact damage.
The pirate wielding the Devil Axe will reach us within two turns...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6007.png

Wrys retreated to preserve his own life.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23778.png

Hardin goes in to defeat the pirate.
We'll have to hope for a crit.
If not, then the village is lost.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13912.png

He did not crit, so Marth zapped the pirate out of existence.
The village is lost.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30660.png

Wrys was healed by the curate-in-training, Radd.
He's still swinging the healing staff around like it's a sword.
He should get the hang of it eventually.
Still, Wrys was grateful for the healing, no matter how weak it may be.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10567.png

RIP Jeorge.
I'll add him to the death counter.
I kind of need him for the coming chapter, this will be tough...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25969.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11429.png

Wendell healed Caesar, Gordin healed Wendell.
A healing train, one could say.
Shiida is waiting in range of the thief.
Ogma chokes the point, ready to take a Devil Axe hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3981.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6555.png

Shiida wounded the thief who destroyed the village.
Rickard extinguished his life with one precise cut.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4273.png

Our vengeful thief grows.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30938.png

Caesar defeated the Devil Axe wielding pirate with Zas's last wish.
I mean, the Parthizas.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28814.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28567.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7162.png

Ogma has become too essential for us to lose.
Everyone capable of healing rushed to his aid to bring him back from the brink.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18057.png

Roger took the place that Ogma left vacant.
He swears to protect us all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29475.png

A thief steals the Wyrmslayer.
It's pretty unrealistic to try and get it anyway.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30254.png

Roger dodges, allowing him to secure the chokepoint for a while longer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26995.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5542.png

Cord attacks the pirate and reaches a D Rank in Tomes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19833.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17768.png

Caesar used Zas's legacy to weaken the pirate for Roger to take down.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16724.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7319.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28460.png

Wrys is healed by Radd.
Shiida is healed by Wendell.
Wendell is healed by Gordin, who is close to gaining a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5631.png

Roger dodges once more.
He's suprisingly nimble without all that armor he usually wears.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8895.png

Wendell could only use Excalibur to guarantee a KO.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8710.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30732.png

This guarantees that Caesar remains available to land the killing shot on this hunter.
Roger softened him up first, though.
It's still kind of unfortunate that it's not Zas who is firing the shots.
Still, we have the Parthizas to remember her by.
It'll be a sad day when it breaks, the last reminder of her existence, gone.
It's sad that we have nothing to really remember Ida by.
He never got to use the Warp or Physic Staff.
Hmmm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27923.png

Caesar gained a level for the kill.
HP and skill are good enough, I suppose.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4259.png

Everyone is just waiting around for the reinforcements to arrive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9783.png

Caezas  Caesar awaits the pirate with the Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3105.png

Hardin will fight the pirates coming from the right.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12319.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9697.png

Ogma takes care of the pirates coming from below.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13977.png

Wendell comes up behind him and makes him equip the Silver Sword.
This will allow him to 2 hit KO the pirates.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10477.png

Caesar was healed by Gordin.
He shared some archery tips from back when he was an archer.
You need a lot of concentration to wield the bow properly.
Zas was still learning, which is why the Parthyzas was forged to be more stable and easier to use for beginners.
Gordin wished that he could have had such a bow for himself during his archery days.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13612.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13485.png

Gordin gained a stellar level and finally reached a C Rank in Staves.
He now has exclusive access to the almighty Warp Staff.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8091.png

Radd healed Caesar too.
He'll get there eventually.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24560.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9029.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30007.png

He effortlessy dispatched the enemy pirate.
A level was gained, making him a little faster.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28864.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14122.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6770.png

Caesar chipped the pirate who wounded Hardin.
Wrys ran up to equip Caesar with the Parthizas, he then proceeded to land the killing blow.

Both of them are now in range of another pirate with a Hand Axe, but they'll manage somehow.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1931.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1782.png

Hardin was healed by Gordin and Radd.
Radd asked Gordin for some healing advice.
Gordin asked him if he remembered that curate who fell in the last battle.
"If you copy how he used to heal, then you'll be good in no time."
Radd gained a level after healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19068.png

Speed.
It somehow seems less impressive when it's not a generic.
Is he the second coming of Ida?
It's too soon to say.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16457.png

People on the left side retreated, since none can withstand getting hit by both a Steel Axe and a Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19638.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4388.png

Wendell and Bantu took care of the first bandit on the left.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11560.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27113.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23339.png

Wrys made a risky move by attacking, but it paid off.
I think that he's strength blessed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17154.png

Caesar is putting the Parthizas to good use.
Another pirate has been defeated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__538.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9385.png

Gordin and Radd swooped in to heal Caesar.
Their combined efforts brought him back to full health.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4709.png

I could have done better on the left side.
I thought that killing the Hand Axe guy with Ogma would leave him wide open to getting killed on the next enemy phase.
In hindsight, I could have used physic on him if I did that.
Instead, Roger chokes the point.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10797.png

Wrys dodged during the enemy phase, allowing him to secure the right side for a while longer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23631.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17449.png

Caesar and Wrys take down yet another pirate.
I really am relying a lot on the Parthizas....
How would I survive this chapter without it?
I wonder.

Jeorge would have been a good unit to have around.
Even if only for Silver Bow chip damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4557.png

I really have no idea about what to do on the left side.
It's another mess.
The Hand Axe pirate went for Darros during the last enemy phase.
I blocked the bridge with Wendell and the doorway with both Ogma and Sedgar.

There is a chance that we'll face disaster and  end up losing Ogma, Sedgar, Wendell and Darros.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22907.png

Ogma magically survived, but the left side is an utter mess now.
He crit one of the hammer guys after getting hit once.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28694.png

I went to damage the pirate with Wrys.
He didn't dodge this time, which is fine.
I can block the pirate to the right with Hardin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9479.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5853.png

I placed my faith in Caesar to get the kill.
He missed a 90% hit.
He did dodge the counterattack, so that's something.

Either he or Wrys will die during the coming enemy phase

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24203.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__603.png

I take it back, only Wrys is in danger of dying on the right side.
A Physic use wouldn't heal Wrys enough to survive a hit from the Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28429.png

I despaired and had Darros throw a Hand Axe to improve the situation on the left side a little.
He miraculously landed the hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1670.png

Now I'm stuck with this.
The chance of death is quite high in the coming enemy phase.
The upper two pirates both have Hand Axes equipped.
I can't put anyone in front of them without risking their death.

Ogma can take one of them out, but he would need to dodge the counterattack.
Wendell is capable of killing any of the pirates, but he faces crit on the counter.
He'll also die in two hits and his chances of dodging are lower than those of Ogma.
Wait...There might be one way to survive this.
Let me check....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13729.png

Bantu is capable of surviving both of them.
The lower one has one extra attack, which would make the total damage 19.
He still faces crit, but this is the best chance I have.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23851.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18344.png

Well then, this is it.
I healed Darros for no real reason.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12209.png

This saddens me beyond words.
This situation is truly dire.
It always hurts so much when Wrys dies in my runs.
I tried so hard and came so far, only to mess it up.
This run might reach a premature end.

Wrys was the only death during this enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28021.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2204.png

Our formation on the right side was penetrated by the enemy.
We had to retreat.
Ogma and Hardin recieved healing.
Hardin couldn't escape their range, though, so he can die during the coming enemy phase.
Caesar is also in range of a Hand Axe, but that's planned.

The left side....I have no idea how I'm going to solve this.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17856.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32442.png

Wendell went and got a critical hit on the upper pirate.
If things go awry, then we may need to use him to buy us time...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28174.png

I decided to have Ogma block the hallway.
He can survive one hit.
The Hand Axe guy cannot attack him at range on this turn.
He should survive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20215.png

No one died during the enemy phase, suprisingly enough.
Ogma even dodged, allowing him to block the enemy for another turn.
Wendell proceeded to crit the lower pirate on the right.
He really is a lifesaver.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26238.png

Rickard contributed in battle by defeating the middle pirate with exact damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23638.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30275.png

Caesar and Bantu combined their efforts to KO the remaining pirate with exact damage.
I certainly am glad that I fielded Bantu after all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17400.png

Caesar got a pretty good level.
I look forward to using him for as long as I'm able.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5559.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32398.png

Sedgar defeated the last pirate who wielded a Hand Axe.
He finally earned his first level, which was terrific.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28644.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21504.png

Hardin was healed by both Radd and Gordin.
I'll be needing him to replace Jagen in the next chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3136.png

Ogma will once again be blocking this area.
He should be fine, provided that he doesn't crit the enemy.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20210.png

Oh.
But he'll dodge the next hit, right?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14581.png

It wasn't meant to be...
Ogma is no more.
My offense is crippled now.
Still, I am thankful that he lasted this long.
His sacrifice bought the remainder of our army enough time to regroup.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18258.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20221.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6122.png

Bantu was healed by Wendell.
Roger must pick up the banner where Ogma let it fall.
He was healed by Gordin and Radd.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29895.png

Marth is filled with grief, seeing his allies falling one by one.
He decides to lure the remaining pirate on his own.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28918.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22274.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7239.png

Marth poked the pirate during his counterattack.
Cord and Bantu finished him off.
Bantu even got a level out of it.

It's an odd thought that Bantu is my most potent combat unit now, not counting effective damage from Shiida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4272.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1271.png

Marth was healed by both Gordin and Radd.
The two of them gained a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10106.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19741.png

They're getting faster.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16454.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31662.png

Gordin healed Darros while Radd healed Sedgar.
Everyone finally started to advance further into the map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25537.png

Caesar recieved some healing on the way from Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4565.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29985.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24918.png

Rickard opened the door and Marth acquired the Goddess Icon.
I think that it's hilarious that the Fire Emblem in this game just makes Marth a glorified thief who can't open doors or bridges.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32351.png

Caesar was healed back to full health by Gordin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22142.png

Caesar lures the mage.
He'll survive the Elfire and double in return.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__994.png

Luring the mage also lured both a hunter and a pirate.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20513.png

The mage was dispatched by the man o' the sea himself.
The one and only Darros!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19729.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21604.png

Caesar chipped the pirate and reached a D Rank in Bows.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6771.png

Wendell went ahead and landed a crit on the pirate, leaving no evidence behind.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28895.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32192.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18660.png

Shiida, Roger and Cord teamed up to rid the world from this hunter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27537.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10990.png

Rickard looted Pyrathi's war funds.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7066.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3710.png

Caesar was healed by Gordin and Radd.
He couldn't help but chuckle at seeing his friend taking his healing duties so seriously.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13192.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9717.png

We used a turn to move Darros into position to attack the enemy hunter on the next turn.
Which you're seeing now.
He got a pretty good level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23037.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19500.png

Wendell finished him off and he reached an A Rank in Tomes.
Cord ran in after his attack to make sure that he had a Fire Tome equipped for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31294.png

Caesar was healed to full health by Radd.
He reached a D Rank in Staves.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5077.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1686.png

The pirate was defeated thanks to Shiida and Hardin.
Hardin crit for no real reason, so he didn't take counter damage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12018.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13939.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22237.png

Marth poked the enemy curate, needing just one more point of experience to level up.
Roger was hungry for his own level, so he just crit the curate.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26314.png

Roger recieved his first level as a mercenary.
Decent indeed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25015.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13895.png

Gordin healed Wendell.
Radd healed Gordin.
Gordin asked Wendell again if he would be willing to teach him.
Wendell reluctantly accepted, warning Gordin that all of his former students have met an untimely end already.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22590.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1108.png

Marth was thirsty for his own level, but he missed.
Mannu is pretty strong, but we can just attack him at range until he dies.
I'll only post extra images if someone gains a level, dies, or the boss is defeated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14163.png

Marth gained luck.
Woo.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28925.png

Sedgar reached a D Rank in Bows after 4 turns of attacking the boss.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8894.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11568.png

Cord gained a level 5 turns after we started attacking the boss.
We also managed to break his Firestone already.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15081.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9726.png

This is quite ironic, defeating a manakete with a manakete.
Heh.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5552.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10936.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6775.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27937.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17443.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29710.png

How does she even know that we're here in Pyrathi?
That aside, I had originally planned ahead for the coming chapter.
That plan died with Jagen and Jeorge, though.

This chapter was rough.
We never got to recruit Jeorge.
We lost our legend in the making, Wrys.
And we lost one of our best combat units, Ogma.

This brings the total death count to 18.
Still, we managed to survive, somehow.
Chapter 10 could very well be our last, though.

We should be able to manage when we recruit Minerva, though.
Hopefully.

Another intriguing chapter.
We won't be seeing enemy axe users for a while after this.

We'll be trying to rescue Maria and recruit Minerva tomorrow.
We'll get there, somehow.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's update.

Zas reminded him of his ill sister, so he's trying to fulfill her wish in her stead.
Luckily, the Parthizas can be used by anyone capable of using bows, be it beginner or master.

Nice reference to the sequel there.

Rickard refuses to ever sit on the bench again, so he'll be fielded in every single chapter from now on.
Some say that he threatened Malledus to let him go.
Malledus didn't mind too much, if he wanted to die out there so badly, why stop him?

Rickard is so fool hardy. Although then again the only chapter he sat on the bench, his beloved Zas died...

Two pirates with Hand Axes approach us.
Caesar awaits them with Zas's legacy in hand.
Rickard originally wanted to hold on to it himself, but he reluctantly allowed Caesar to borrow it for the greater good of the army.

If only Rickard could follow in her footsteps as a archer (or better yet hunter of vengeance), but alas the path of a thief cannot be abandoned.

We'll have to hope for a crit.
If not, then the village is lost.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13912.png

He did not crit, so Marth zapped the pirate out of existence.
The village is lost.

Oof, if only Shiida were a little closer, or Roger had the weapon ranks to trade chain the Levin sword to him...

RIP Jeorge.
I'll add him to the death counter.
I kind of need him for the coming chapter, this will be tough...

Poor Jeorge, I guess this means Gordin lost a teacher, and the canon wielder of the Parthia falls as well. If only he weren't so willing to get to meet Marth in the country he was invading...

He shared some archery tips from back when he was an archer.
You need a lot of concentration to wield the bow properly.
Zas was still learning, which is why the Parthyzas was forged to be more stable and easier to use for beginners.
Gordin wished that he could have had such a bow for himself during his archery days.

Bantu is capable of surviving both of them.
The lower one has one extra attack, which would make the total damage 19.
He still faces crit, but this is the best chance I have.

Bantu is coming in kinda clutch here.

This saddens me beyond words.
This situation is truly dire.
It always hurts so much when Wrys dies in my runs.
I tried so hard and came so far, only to mess it up.
This run might reach a premature end.

Ouch poor Wrys, he is always such a beloved character. Although its interesting that this is the death that makes you think the run might end prematurely.

Caesar and Bantu combined their efforts to KO the remaining pirate with exact damage.
I certainly am glad that I fielded Bantu after all.

Bantu is getting a lot more use than I expected him to. I guess I never gave the old guy a chance to shine like this.

It wasn't meant to be...
Ogma is no more.
My offense is crippled now.
Still, I am thankful that he lasted this long.
His sacrifice bought the remainder of our army enough time to regroup.

Oof, now there is the death that would make me worry about the future. Although if you can get Sedgar enough a few levels, you will be in better straights at least.

Its quite a fitting way to end this chapter (although giving the kill to Sedgar might have been better in the long run...)

Chapter 10 is here.
This chapter will be pivotal.
Our chance of failure is quite high here.

We will recruit two characters during this chapter.
One will carry us in the coming chapters.
The other...Well, we'll find a use for her, hopefully.

Current death count: 18
Names of the fallen by chapter

Chapter 2: Draug and Castor.
Chapter 3: Cain, Lena, Julian and Abel.
Chapter 4: Ossa, Matthis and Merric.
Chapter 6: Wolf.
Chapter 8: Nabarl, Ida, Zas, Barst and Jagen.
Chapter 9: Jeorge, Wrys and Ogma.

Chapter 10

Spoiler

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13890.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24659.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__886.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9598.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3780.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20423.png

They aren't completely wrong.
We'll eventually be bombarded by tough reinforcements while getting trapped in a pincer attack.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5483.png

Hardin was reclassed back to a cavalier after coming close to death in Pyrathi.
He decided that he didn't want to face weapon triangle disadvantage in every battle anymore.
He'll be wielding the Cane, Jagen's old forged Ridersbane.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27877.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26100.png

Rickard sold the medium sized Bullion.
We did some shopping for the army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17694.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19118.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20276.png

Rickard spent 6400 gold on a forge for himself.
"Vengeance"
It's just a stronger Iron Sword for Rickard.
He refuses to trade it to anyone.
So, the only way for someone else to use it is for Rickard to fall in battle.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13036.png

The bench is occupied by Vyland and Bord for today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24855.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__780.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11899.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29748.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5929.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11609.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6987.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30435.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3843.png

Reinforcements...
I dread them, but I know how to block them all when the time comes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13402.png

Everyone approaches the entrance of Castle Deil.
Ready to defeat the incoming cavaliers in one fell swoop.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28643.png

The thief swiped a Levin Sword.
We can afford to lose that treasure.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7306.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4865.png

Shiida takes the cavalier with the forged Javelin out..
Hardin the other.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22709.png

Everyone is just making a wall to hopefully defend against the cavaliers.
Looking back, I forgot to trade with Hardin to make sure that he wouldn't kill the cavaliers in one hit during the counter.
Roshea will also die if he's ganged up on.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26915.png

Cord attacked the right cavalier.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15176.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7935.png

Sedgar was healed by both Radd and Wendell.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30746.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26612.png

The left cavalier was defeated by Hardin, he got HP for his troubles.
Pretty unlucky...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20241.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15657.png

Roshea and Bantu finished the remaining cavalier.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29253.png

Gordin used his physic abilities to treat Wendell's wounds.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22455.png

He might be the one who ends up tanking Gharnef when the time comes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20549.png

Everyone scrambles to get into Castle Deil.
Shiida will lure the knight within to clear the way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1630.png

She gains a typical level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30069.png

This chapter is going as I feared.
We'll likely see two deaths during the enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25079.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25931.png

Cord and Roshea join the fallen.
We can still manage.
Somehow?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24119.png

Everyone finally got into the castle.
We'll be exploiting the enemy AI to win the day.
Roger here will try and survive the enemy.
Two dracoknights will wait behind each other, leaving no room for the pegasus knight with the Javelin.
The dracoknight in the back will never move from his spot to allow the pegasus knight to attack.
We should be fine.
....I forgot to unequip his weapon.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4719.png

Marth got another Physic from the chest.
We'll be needing it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25021.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5405.png

Radd goes ahead and heals Roger.
Radd is growing ever stronger.
I wanted to Physic him after, but that actually wouldn't heal enough.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10128.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31020.png

Wendell healed Roger, getting a very good level for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32108.png

Shiida chokes the point.
I am depending on the AI being foolish here...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2466.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19855.png

Radd got the Mend Staff from Darros and healed Wendell.
Shiida dodged during the last enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28111.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6122.png

Wendell got the Mend Staff from Radd and proceeded to heal Shiida.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19512.png

It's turn 8 now.
I'll update again if someone gains a level, dies or the dracoknight's weapon breaks.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24034.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2522.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23808.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6215.png

Gordin finally reached the speed that Ida used to have.
He also has just as much resistance as Wendell now.
Wendell reached a C Rank in Staves during the ordeal, giving him access to both Warp and Physic.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7584.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27908.png

It took 18 turns, but we finally made it.
The enemy army is now permanently blocked.
The Castle itself does have some treacherous archers and snipers hiding within.
We need to be careful.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25022.png

Wendell leads the charge, activating the nearby knight to start moving.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5970.png

Darros will be our glorified doorstop for the remainder of the chapter.
The legendary man o' the sea will keep the enemy at bay.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17918.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27573.png

Shiida was healed by Radd and Gordin.
She did survive 18 traumatic turns of getting hit with a Silver Lance after all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17808.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30315.png

We literally have no one left who can fight decently.
Losing Wendell, to a crit, no less, is quite a shock.
None remain who are worthy of the legendary Excalibur....
And he just reached the rank to use Warp too.

I was planning to rely on him to safely defeat the archers.
The only people remaining who won't get doubled by the sniper are Shiida, who' won't survive, and Roger.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2630.png

Marth and Sedgar wait in range of the knight.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30310.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10783.png

Marth defeated the knight and was healed by our healing duo.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6422.png

We put Roger in range of both the archer and the sniper.
Only one can attack him, though.
We'll try and take them out during the next player phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5756.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17759.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29093.png

Hardin and Bantu ganged up on the sniper.
Bantu got an empty level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30583.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26053.png

Caesar shot the sniper down.
He got a pristine Silver Bow for his troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31872.png

Darros had to move up to help us out.
He certainly made an impact with the Devil Axe in his hand.
It did not backfire.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12430.png

Sedgar had to hit this, but he missed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5141.png

Marth can only be hit by one archer, even if things go awry.
He did not crit, so Hardin and Bantu can die on the coming enemy phase.
Rickard would die in one hit, so I couldn't use him to defeat this archer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28956.png

Roger got some healing from Radd.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28455.png

We end our player phase like this.
Gordin blocks the enemies to our south.
Hopefully all goes well.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29138.png

Rest in Peace, Bantu.
We wouldn't have gotten this far without you.
You will be missed.
Also RIP Tiki down the line.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32478.png

Darros seems to be suffering from the same gambling addiction as Barst.
He got away with using the Devil Axe again.
He also reached a C Rank in Axes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13895.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23380.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5505.png

Roger and Caesar defeated the archer on the right.
Caesar became a little faster and stronger.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2411.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11017.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24587.png

Marth, Sedgar and Rickard made an end to this archer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32160.png

Roger got some healing from Radd.
We lost access to the Mend Staff, since Wendell had it on him.
We'll be getting it back in chapter 11.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4230.png

Everyone except Gordin is running north.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28826.png

Roger awaits the incoming hero on the pillar after three turns of walking.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13050.png

Sedgar chipped him with a Javelin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32051.png

Caesar missed a 92% with the Parthizas.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32489.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22876.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15771.png

Shiida got a crit with her Javelin throw.
This brought the hero in range to be defeated by our one and only Rickard.
He...Could have gotten a better level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27977.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8879.png

Radd heals Roger and recieves a "spectacular" level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26653.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3618.png

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20218.png

We took 5 turns to get here.

Shiida deleted another boss and reached level 10.

Marth hit a curate for 2 turns straight, gaining a level for his troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30324.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17650.png

I early promoted Shiida.
Usually, I would wait until level 20, or I'd be promoting one of my healers instead since they're usually level 20 by now.
This is not a normal run, though.
We need all the power we can get.
Having another promoted unit will really help our chances.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31909.png

Marth seizes the throne, ending yet another chapter of his bloody adventure.

We'll find Linde in the coming chapter, provided that we reach her village in time.
Well then, this chapter reduced our numbers even more.

Our death counter has reached 22.
Cord, Roshea, Wendell and Bantu.
It must be quite enetertaining to slowly see my numbers diminish.

Still, we're not out of the game yet.

We've concluded chapter 10.
Tricking the AI was fun.

We'll be visiting the Knorda Market in the coming chapter.
Time to go shopping.

Another update shall appear tomorrow.

"Vengeance"
It's just a stronger Iron Sword for Rickard.
He refuses to trade it to anyone.
So, the only way for someone else to use it is for Rickard to fall in battle.

Its funny how many of these forges are just memey picks. Now Rickard shall wreck his vengeance against the world.

The bench is occupied by Vyland and Bord for today.

There still being people on the bench after all that death...I guess they give you a lot of replacements even before the generics.

Everyone is just making a wall to hopefully defend against the cavaliers.
Looking back, I forgot to trade with Hardin to make sure that he wouldn't kill the cavaliers in one hit during the counter.
Roshea will also die if he's ganged up on.

Plus Shiida is holding a corner that could be targeted twice...

Cord and Roshea join the fallen.
We can still manage.
Somehow?

Ouch. Well seeing as I think this is Roshea's first battle after his recruitment that isn't the biggest loss, but Cord has been chipping around in the background for a while.

At least that wasn't a fatal mistake, but seeing him live it on 1 makes that look uncomfortably close.

It took 18 turns, but we finally made it.
The enemy army is now permanently blocked.

Having to break a normal enemy's weapon to succeed sounds utterly ridiculous (and tedious), but fortunately the enemy AI is dumb enough to make that work.

We literally have no one left who can fight decently.
Losing Wendell, to a crit, no less, is quite a shock.
None remain who are worthy of the legendary Excalibur....
And he just reached the rank to use Warp too.

I was kinda expecting Jagen to go out to a crit like this, but Wendell falling, especially so late is utterly tragic. With the death of the Pontifex some wondered if the gods themselves had turned their back on Marth's army, and humanity as a whole, but still they persevered...

Darros had to move up to help us out.
He certainly made an impact with the Devil Axe in his hand.
It did not backfire.

This is how dire things are, already bitten once by the Devil Axe, it rears its venomous axehead again.

Rest in Peace, Bantu.
We wouldn't have gotten this far without you.
You will be missed.
Also RIP Tiki down the line.

I was kinda excited to see Bantu being used in a run, but alas it seems he falls here. I guess this means you will be trying for the Naga gaiden chapter then (assuming you make it that far...)

Shiida got a crit with her Javelin throw.

Finally some luck to turn things around. Before that crit I was starting to worry you wouldn't be able to take that hero down with some more sacrafices...

Radd heals Roger and recieves a "spectacular" level.

I like the other generics better, this "Radd" is just not living up to the legacy of Ida and Zas 😛

This Minerva, princess of Medon.
Wielder of the weaponized vulnerary, the Hauteclere.
Her base stats will hold up for a while yet.

Finally my favorite of the Shadow Dragon characters comes to save the day.

Shiida deleted another boss and reached level 10.

Once again Shiida lives the boss counter on 1 (and gets a great level to boot).

Roger, you fool!
Why did you attack first?

I feel like I've lowkey been insulted.

This is one of the first times I have seen this chapter going poorly enough at the end that Malledus's retreat strategy sounds reasonable, as things were really looking grim after that much death...

Excellent story gameplay integration. Very good. 10/10. (On a related note, there's presently a tribute to Yubello on Saint Rubenio's video of his H5 slaying of Medeus, so yeah, my old jokes aged like milk)

I would love to see that debate sometime.

I believe I recall the debate (in case you don't remember, it's the one on Vyland or the Sable Order fellows being the most forgettable in Archanea). I do believe I recall it being involved in my own H5 LP (that I'll be resuming soon according to plan, and seeing as we're both up to Knorda, you might not be seeing me as  a regular... because I'm a bit slower paced), Benice's Hector Hard Mode Ironman, and possibly Saint Rubenio's Berwick Saga Ironman... depending on what was mentioned. This would've all been around June... the middle of. I'll avoid saying what was said... because quite honestly I'd get it wrong going off memory. I'll just note, even as the one debating the matter with Eltosian Kadath, I consider both points of view had solid ground beneath them.

We'll be relying on her a lot, since she's the only pre-promote we have left.

I mean, there's Sedgar technically... but he's a growth unit disguised as a pre-promote.

Interesting. Our Shiida/Caeda basically have inverted strength and defense stats on promotion. I hope yours can serve you as well as mine has me. Though the fact we both made it this far with their aid kind of says something.

edit: No. Looking it up, I'm wrong. My one still has 12 def. Anyway, mine also had another 5 levels by then and a seraph robe, so take it with a grain of salt, as yours is definitely still quite solid, and has the potential to carry you to victory given adequate care and proper use of the wing spear.

May Knorda market bring you improved fortune, or at least an opportunity to plan around anything where luck is a factor, and I will catch up on this thread when both our paths through Archanea intersect again.

My reaction:

Also, ouch, only three chapters, and the casualty count has doubled from the 10 it was in chapter 7...
