A fool returns to a Shadow Dragon Hard 5 Iron Man

Recommended Posts

I've toiled through this journey once before, ending in a cruel failure.
My return has arrived, 5 months after that fateful day.
This time will be different.
I hope that I'm not going to eat those words later

This will be a hard iron man, meaning that it's all over once Marth bites the dust.
Be it right at the start or right at the end, his demise will be permanent.

This is going to be my second Screenshot Let's Play ever.
I do truly appreciate every comment, be it feedback or just for fun.

I will be writing as I play, just like last time.

Let us begin anew!

Chapter 1

And so, our story begins.
Some of these events are portrayed in the Fire Emblem OVA, it's quite a fun thing to watch if you have time to spare.
There's also the Prologue before this, but that's unavailable on Hard mode.
A patch exists to allow one to play those chapters at this difficulty, but I decided to keep my game unmodded.

You have to wonder if Medeus simply considers Talys to be too insignificant to invade.
Marth's location must still be a secret to the world, else he'd already be dead.
Talys doesn't need a grand order of knights when they have the only user of the Wing Spear on their side.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13590.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28500.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11927.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11210.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13425.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17962.png

I am playing the PAL version of the game.
Some names will differ because of it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18595.png

This is Marth, the hero of our story.
The man who started it all.
He's the only playable Lord in the game and he has exclusive access to three personal weapons.
The Rapier, a 5 mt sword that's effective against cavalry and armor.
The other two weapons are both the true and false Falchion.
Though we'll get to those much later.
He has a D Rank in Swords, allowing him to use Iron and Steel weapons.

Let's take a look at his stats and growth rates.

Marth is a growth unit, though his combat utility is limited compared to other units.
That mostly stems from him being a lord, being unable to reclass, being locked to Swords and causing the run to end when he falls in battle.
His level cap is 30 instead of the usual 20 to make up for his shortcomings.
There's also another thing holding him back, his caps.
His Speed cap is 25.
This means that he'll get doubled by Medeus, even at max speed.

I will do my best to level him safely, since he might be my only anti-armor unit if things go awry.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10814.png

This is Caeda Shiida, princess of Talys.
She comes with her personal weapon, the Wing Spear.
An 8 mt Lance which has dual effectiveness against both cavalry and armored units.
Basically Marth's Rapier but much better.
This weapon can solo most of the enemies in the whole game.

She has a D Rank in Lances, allowing her to use Iron and Steel Lances as well as Javelins.

Some could almost consider her the second main character of Shadow Dragon.
She recruits quite a few characters, allowing Marth to stay out of danger.
Shiida will suffer a little in the early chapters due to having Weapon Triangle disadvantage, though she's sure to shine after that.

Let us take a look at her base stats and growth rates.

Color me surprised to see a 0% Res growth on her.
That aside, Shiida fills the role of a glass cannon.
Her strength and growth therein may be low, but she makes up for that with the sheer power of the Wing Spear.
Especially when it's forged.
Her current speed also allows her to avoid getting doubled by most of the early threats.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23178.png

This is Cain, one of the two Christmas cavaliers.
He has the nickname of "The Bull" for some reason.
His speciality is swords, though that won't help him too much in this playthrough.

He possesses both a D Rank in Swords and an E Rank in Lances.
This harms his usefulness somewhat, since he's unable to wield Javelins at base.
I vaguely recall making him the decoy in my original playthrough way back when.
He also became my savior in another playthrough, becoming the Swordmaster of legend and slicing Manaketes left and right.

Cain has some potential if you're willing to grind his lance rank up.
You could also take a different path and reclass him when the time comes.
He is going to need to gain some speed sooner rather than later, else he's going to get doubled in the coming chapters.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22975.png

This is Abel, another member of the Christmas cavaliers.
He has the nickname of "The Panther", according to Feh.
Abel's specialty is his skill with lances.
This is going to serve him very well.

Abel has an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Lances.
This allows him to use the much-beloved Javelin to inflict safe chip damage.
Abel has never been too noteworthy in my runs, he either ends up wielding the Gradivus or bites the dust before ever seeing the preparations menu.

Let's glance at his base stats and growth rates.

Abel really seems to be the superior of the two.
At least, it seems that way to me.
That one point of extra base speed and access to Javelins really elevates him above Cain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15750.png

This is Jagen, a veteran of unnamed wars and the crutch of our early campaign.
He's a pre-promote, some love them, some hate them.
Me?
I used to overuse pre-promotes at first, then I had a phase of benching them immediatly.
And now, it really doesn't matter.
Jagen certainly isn't overpowered, but he can last the whole game if used correctly.
That became a little rant, didn't it?

Jagen has a D Rank in Swords and a B Rank in Lances.
This allows him to use Iron and Steel Swords and all lances except the Gradivus.
He comes with a Silver Lance, which we're going to use quite a lot.

Let's admire his base stats and growth rates.

Jagen's base stats will hold up for quite a while.
The only thing that really threatens him is his low luck.
Getting hit by a low% critical hit will be the end of him.
His growths are low, but that's to be expected.
Anything is possible with RNG on your side.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30957.png

This is Gordin, Archer extraordinare.
He's our only ranged unit in this chapter, not counting Javelin users.
Gordin is a great example of some of the smaller mechanics you tend to forget in Shadow Dragon.
Allow me to elaborate in the next segment.

Gordin has a D rank in Bows, allowing him to use the Iron and Steel Bow.
The Iron Bow has 4 weight while the Steel Bow has 8.
Attack Speed is calculated by subtracting the user's strength from the weapon weight, then subtracting the remainder from the user's speed.
For example: Gordin's strength = 4, Iron Bow's Weapon Weight = 4, 4-4 = 0. 4-0 = 4.
Nothing to worry about, right?
Well, the Steel Bow will cause Gordin to effectively have 0 speed when in combat.
Gordin's strength = 4. Steel Bow's Weapon Weight = 8. Gordin's Speed = 4. 8- 4 = 4.  4-4 =0 Attack Speed.

Long story short, make sure to be mindful of the weight of weapons.
I have a feeling that no one wants to read about stuff like this, heh...

Anyhow, moving on to his base stats and growth rates.

Gordin will mostly help out by providing chip damage from the rear.
He did max his defense on one of my runs long ago, it was truly a sight to behold.
I vaguely recall Gordin joining some kind of cult during my last run, did his faith truly protect him until the end, though?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12718.png

Draug, the choker of points.
He's another pillar of strength, at least for this chapter.
This man once traveled the path of the dark arts, eventually becoming skilled enough to wield the legendary tome known as Excalibur.
Still, his path in this life is still unknown.

Draug has a D Rank in Lances, allowing him to use Javelins.
By the way, why do Javelins have more strength than Iron Lances in this game specifically?
Just something I had on my mind for a while.

Let's check his base stats and growth rates.

Draug is quite swift for someone in his class.
It is often recommended to reclass him to a hunter when reclassing becomes available.
I can't really speak for this, since he has never survived my Iron Man runs before.

Let's finally get started with the gameplay.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30488.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26276.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26762.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5799.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16528.png

Marth starts the turn off by visiting the nearby village.
'Tis good to recieve a warm welcome in these trying times.
Our army certainly appreciates your generous contribution to our cause.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30470.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1089.png

Shiida flies over to the armorer to acquire some much-needed weapons.
She bought three Javelins and an Iron Lance.
The Javelins are meant for herself, Draug and Jagen.
The Iron Lance is also for her, we wouldn't want to waste Wing Spear uses after all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9005.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10560.png

Abel throws a Javelin at the nearby thief, thankfully, he hits.
Cain waits on the nearby fort, planning to slay the thief on the following turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2677.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30908.png

Jagen occupies the fort within enemy territory.
He will weather their onslaught with his Silver Lance in hand.
Draug and Gordin tiptoe around enemy territory, aiming to provide support on the coming turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29599.png

Jagen survives the first enemy phase, bringing both of the attacking pirates within kill-range.
He was at risk of two 1% crits, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32639.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15670.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6978.png

Shiida threw a Javelin at the fleeing thief, he sadly managed to dodge.
Abel made up for Shiida's mistake by hitting the thief with a Javelin of his own.
Marth ran up and laid the the wounded thief to rest, getting some nice experience for his efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18939.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30694.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16847.png

Gordin took a shot at the enemy pirate nearby, bringing him in range for Daug to kill.
Draug defied probability and missed, leaving Jagen to clean up the mess.
He took the kill with his Iron Sword to guarantee the hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9032.png

Both Gordin and Draug took an axe to the face, still, they live.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21695.png

I have a plan to make this area relatively safe again, Gordin just has to hit this.....
Oh.
Well, that didn't work out as planned.
No matter, there's always more than one path to victory.
Let's just hope that there won't be too many high% misses.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15028.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11658.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27478.png

Shiida took it upon herself to help Gordin out.
She gave him two of the Javelins she bought in case she won't make it.
Shiida proceeded to hit the pirate twice after handing the Javelins over.
Marth swooped in to take him out without incident.
Shiida sustained some damage on the counterattack, but she should be out of harm's way for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8634.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22307.png

Abel rushed over and flung a Javelin at the pirate, it luckily hit its mark.
Jagen finished the job with one clean thrust of his Silver Lance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30042.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18124.png

Draug retreated to the space next to Gordin, while taking one of the Javelins for later.
Cain went to support Abel by switching his Javelin for an Iron Sword.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22498.png

Everyone is now in position.
The pirates can only reach Jagen, Marth, Cain and Abel, who are all able to survive two hits or more.
All of our wounded units are shielded from harm.
The pirates at sea cannot reach us yet.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14157.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14392.png

Abel is assaulted by two pirates, but he manages to hold his own.
We'll be in for some fort healing once all of the early pirates are defeated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4706.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23478.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30628.png

Shiida, Abel and Cain banded together to dispose of the lower pirate.
RNG didn't fail me this time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__105.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6174.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9182.png

Our Archer Extraordinare shot an arrow right into the pirate's leg, restricting his movement.
This allowed Draug to defy the odds and land a hit on him with his Javelin.
Finally, Marth came in and put this ruffian to rest.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3376.png

The first level of the run.
It isn't a bad omen this time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23543.png

The two pirates approach us from the sea.
There should be no deaths during the coming enemy phase.
Even Draug can survive another hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32287.png

The pirates only went for Marth and Cain, both handled the onslaught just fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8225.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2535.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26317.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15068.png

The chip-squad assualted the pirate before Cain went in for the kill.
Cain also swapped Draug's weapons around to conserve Javelin uses.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29079.png

We decided to leave the upper pirate be for now.
The extra 20 avoid he gets from walking on the sea will be a pain to deal with.
Everyone should be fine for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6944.png

The pirate went for Cain, while taking cover in the forest.
Cain survived the hit.
Though almost everyone in our army is now just one hit away from death.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16899.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31953.png

Gordin is just going to set this guy up for Cain.
Oh....
Hmmm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12339.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21531.png

Maybe Draug will defy logic and hit?
No?
I still have two more tries left.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12781.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28877.png

Phew.
Abel saved the day.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19545.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19871.png

Cain took him out, gaining a level for his effort.
No speed, though, the boss is going to eat him alive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14524.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27272.png

Jagen left the fort and retrieved the final Javelin from Gordin.
Marth now occupies the fort in his place.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31726.png

It is time for some fort healing.
I'll show how many turns have passed in the next screenshot.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4815.png

19 turns later...
Say, how long is a turn considered to be anyway?
A few minutes?
Hours?
Days?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28318.png

Marth fortifies himself within the forest, wishing to be a shining example for his army.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13516.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25763.png

Abel tries his hand at throwing another Javelin, but the pirate manages to dodge.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24679.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21485.png

Gordin and Cain team up to delete this pirate.
That point of Strength Cain gained earlier is already coming in handy here.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27353.png

Marth took refuge within the fort to heal his wounds.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8139.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26947.png

The hunter doubled Cain, our revenge will be slow and painful.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5030.png

Cain switches places with Marth, we'll be needing him at full health later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__265.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12394.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17441.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18974.png

The hunter faces a painful death while seperated from his comrades.
That is just the way it has to be.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16560.png

A few turns passed while we trudged forward.
Cain eventually recovered all of his HP and rejoined our group.
Marth will once again hold the fort.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8078.png

Our first dodge of the run.
Sweet victory.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26279.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9200.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15174.png

Gordin shoots the pirate in his arm, stunning him momentarily.
Abel seizes the opportunity to impale him with a well aimed Javelin.
Marth ends his misery with a clean cut.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13026.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26938.png

Abel puts his Javelin to good use, landing another clean hit.
His level is a little disappointing.
Still, he has many opportunities to grow yet.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30920.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21155.png

Gordin and Draug finished this pirate off.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29056.png

Marth readied himself in the mountains, awaiting the next pirate while Gordin and Draug were fighting the other one.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18697.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25947.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27399.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32396.png

Gordin wanted to show off and got a crit.
Draug was still unamused as he took the pirate down.
His level reflecting his mood.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30993.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16947.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29933.png

Marth visited a local village, where he met Wrys.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18895.png

Wrys is a humble curate.
He cannot fight, but this staff he carries can heal the wounded.
Take him with you, and you'll be very glad you did.

Wrys is a bit of a meme.
Or maybe more of a legend.
He became a sage and wielder of Starlight in one of my playthroughs.
He became a legendary swordmaster in another, with both the Starsphere and a forged Wyrmslayer in hand.

This humble curate comes with an E Rank in Staves.
This only allows him to use a standard Heal staff.

Let's observe the base stats and growths of this humble curate.

Wrys is a peculiar unit.
He'll become a magical tank if trained up.
I've often used him to block Gharnef in a certain chapter.
He's honestly not that good, but I'm going to use him no matter what.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32162.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7603.png

Marth is going to use the fort for healing to preserve Heal uses.
It'll take a while to defeat this boss, so I'll only show the noteworthy bits until he's defeated.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21015.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24979.png

You underestimate our power.
Marth barely survived with 1 HP remaining.
He did get a small level for his efforts, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11735.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5845.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30887.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10811.png

Gordin got a level and reached a C Rank in Bows.
Both Abel and Shiida reached a C Rank in Lances.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28621.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27158.png

Jagen was defeated by a 2% crit.
That really is a sour way to go, especially right at the start of a run like this.
I...Kind of needed him.
A lot.

I'll figure something out, hopefully.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1843.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10915.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13289.png

Draug reached a C Rank in Lances.

Shiida got a decent level.

Marth ends the chapter with a heavy heart.

We're going to need all the help we can get now that Jagen is no longer among us.
I had some strategies in mind involving Jagen, though that all needs to change now.
The Silver Lance will remain unused in the convoy for a while....

The next chapter should still be doable without Jagen.
The chapter after that will be quite troubling.
Still, one step at a time.

Death Counter: 1.
Chapter 1: Jagen.

Phew, doing a screenshot let's play is more work than I remembered.
Still, I hope that the first part turned out fine.
I might attempt to do daily updates like last time, but we'll see.
Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed reading the first part of this journey.

A patch exists to allow one to play those chapters at this difficulty, but I decided to keep my game unmodded.

Speaking of, I heard that the prologue chapters apparently were not playtested on hard mode, given that someone who DID try them on H5 was NOT pleased with how bad they were.

Jagen was defeated by a 2% crit.
That really is a sour way to go, especially right at the start of a run like this.
I...Kind of needed him.
A lot.

I think I mentioned this the last time, but I think the design philosophy behind this mode is grievously flawed.

You have to wonder if Medeus simply considers Talys to be too insignificant to invade.

They are still dealing with Aurelis, and the exiled Princess Nyna, so they still have bigger fish to fry than Talys and Marth (especially when the Falchion is already in their hands)..

Funny, but kinda true, the Wing Spear really gives them an ace in the hole for any battle.

Its kinda funny how  Swordmasters become so useful in the late game, but the sword-lock makes them underwhelming in the mid game...

Just something I had on my mind for a while.

I guess they are higher rank weapons, but it still seems a little weird given how useful 1-2 range is...

Who was the unlucky guy who got hit with this big a setback? Because Jagen going to the graveyard in chapter 1 can only be a harbinger of more bad luck.

Have you not seen any of Excelblem's content? He is a bit new, but has been pumping out a lot of meme-y short content, including his couple minute recaps of chapters of his slaughter filled SD H5 ironman, like that one there.

Marth would likely fall in the prologue, since he has no way of healing himself while always facing weapon triangle disadvantage.

Hard 5 still seems fair to me, all things considered.
It's tough as nails, but it doesn't throw anything truly unfair at the player.
Except reinforcements that move on the same turn, those can burn for all I care.

Ah, or does Gharnef intend to use that as a bargaining chip?

The weapon triangle really is against Marth in this game.

You have been getting a lot of timely javelin hits, which makes this chapter fairly manageable.

It must have just been a thing carried over from the NES original.
Still, it kind of makes you want to use only Javelins, even if their accuracy is a little lower.
My luck can be a blessing and a curse.
I'm just happy to have access to plenty of unreliable chip damage.

We have arrived at Galder Harbor after two days.
Our army used one of those days to mourn the loss of our veteran Paladin, Jagen.

This chapter will provide quite a challenge for our small army to overcome.
Still, I plan to get through this with minimal casualties.

Marth sailed over to Galder Harbor, mentally preparing himself for the suffering yet to come.
The king of Talys sent one extra ship after the small army, housing four able warriors to help support the prince without a kingdom.
They shall meet soon enough.

Shiida flew ahead to scout the harbor up ahead, coming back looking pale as a sheet.
Pirates seized the area, extorting the residents by making them pay for "protection".
Marth was shocked to hear that pirates were so nearby.
He gathered his resolve and ordered his army to rout these foul men o' the sea.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1908.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12715.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__287.png

Ogma, one of the four warriors sent by the king of Talys, caught up to Marth to offer his aid.
It seems that Grust's cavalry has arrived.
They seem to be allied with the pirates in town, though their alliance seems uneasy.
Perhaps they offered a grand sum in order to get them to cooperate?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17007.png

This is Ogma, a mercenary from Talys.
He's a very helpful unit for these early chapters.
His base speed allows him to easily avoid doubles, even from the fast enemy hunters.

He comes with a C Rank in Swords.
This allows him to use all swords except the Silver Sword and the Mercurius.

Let's take a closer look at his base stats and growth rates.

Meet Barst, the most popular of the three fighters.
This guy is destined to grow into a hero, cutting foes down with both Axes and Swords.
If all else fails, then he can still use a certain cursed weapon when the time comes.

He comes with a D Rank in Axes,.
This allows him to attack at one-range with Iron and Steel Axes while also having access to Hand Axes for ranged combat.
He's a good user of his Steel Axe, since he isn't weighed down by it at all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17997.png

This is Bord, another member of the trio of Fighters.
He's more crafty than the other two, which is why he has a C Rank in Axes already.
He sometimes wishes to pursue the dark arts instead of wielding axes.

He comes, as previously mentioned, with a C Rank in Axes.
This gives him access to a variety of axes at base.
Allowing him to use every Axe, excluding the Silver Axe and Hauteclere.
Having access to a ranged weapon in the form of the Hand Axe benefits him greatly.

Let's observe his base stats and growth rates.

His Speed growth is really the main thing holding him back.
Still, his base Speed will hold up a little while longer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11214.png

Last but certainly not least is Cord.
Cord is peculiar, he's mostly held back by his disappointing Axe Rank.
He once became a legendary hero for me, wielding both a Wyrmslayer and the Hauteclere.
Will he succeed this time?

Cord comes with an E Rank in Axes.
This only gives him access to the standard Iron Axe.

He's quite a worthwile unit if you'd be willing to train his Axe Rank up.
Still, there's more than one way to succeed in Shadow Dragon.
He might fare well if reclassed.

Let's get back to the gameplay now that all of this is out of the way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29136.png

Marth positions himself on this corner of land, luring an enemy pirate from the left and another from above.
This move would usually be suicide, but this'll go differently than one might expect.
Marth announces himself to the pirates, basically painting a target on his back.
He hopes to sway at least one of them to reconsider their actions and join him instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7471.png

Ogma occupies the fort, Iron Sword in hand.
He's ready to double any pirate coming his way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16401.png

Draug moves up to deter an enemy thief from going any further.
This move will keep our squishier units safe from harm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20701.png

Cain goes for a diversion tactic, attempting to lure the pirate to him instead of Marth.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14547.png

Everyone readies themselves, they'll soon be assaulted from two sides.
Some of our soldiers are worried about Marth's safety, but he assures them that he'll be all right.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24017.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5218.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2939.png

A man o' the sea named Darros had a change of heart and joined our side.
This was all according to Marth's plan.
Darros will block one of the incoming threats nicely.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29566.png

The other threat coming for Marth missed the mark.
He'll regret missing soon enough.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14974.png

Darros joined us a moment ago.
This man o' the sea bravely jumped in front of Marth as a thief went in to take his life.
He barely survived it, but he's happy to add even one good deed to his list.

Darros joins with a D Rank in Axes.
This allows him to use Iron, Steel and Hand Axes.
He's also a pirate, which allows him to walk on water.

Let's check his base stats and growth rates.

Darros is similar to Bord.
Great potential, but really held back by his speed growth.
It also seems like he's set up to be killed right after he joins you, his Steel Axe weighs him down, giving him a measly 3 Attack Speed.
This causes him to get doubled by every enemy on the map.
He can barely survive a thief while facing that cursed 1% crit.
A pirate would just kill him outright.
I tried using him during my last run, the Devil Axe became his signature weapon.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29588.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15490.png

Darros retreated to our kindly priest known as Wrys.
Wrys tends to his wounds, but he'll need some more care before he's ready to return to the battlefield.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27093.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9193.png

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5114.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17230.png

Mistakes were made as RNG wasn't in Barst's favor today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25518.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12455.png

Ogma and Cain cleaned this pirate up.
Their swordmanship was impressive.

I made a mistake somewhere.
We'll be losing at least one unit during the coming enemy phase.
Our bets are on Draug, so we equipped him with a Javelin to do just a little more damage.

Marth might seem to be in danger, but only the pirate can reach him.
None of our units die if only one enemy attacks them, so Marth should be safe at least.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3949.png

Draug fell by the hand of the pirate alone, my calculations were off.
He was our one tank against the thieves.
This will not only make this chapter more difficult, but the next chapter too.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12323.png

Not all is lost, however.
The hunter went for Barst, getting hit on the counterattack.

Taking him out on the coming turn should lighten our loads considerably.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28975.png

Darros is healed back to full health, this will help him to block one of the incoming cavaliers later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30572.png

Cain gets a hit in on this murderous pirate.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12230.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28663.png

I made my first fatal mistake here.
I confused Cord for Bord, trading the Hand Axe to him only to discover that I can't use it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21588.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10495.png

The hunter is defeated by the combined efforts of Shiida and Ogma.
Ogma can take a hit from the thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13383.png

Darros went ahead and blocked the upper bridge while wielding an Iron Axe, this allows him to avoid getting doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8377.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10613.png

Abel throws a Javelin and misses, this is getting dire.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31286.png

Gordin manages to hit the Pirate, leaving him within KO territory.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1923.png

Bord goes in for the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24476.png

...But misses at our moment of need.
That's not all, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6977.png

Wrys is left wide open, his death is almost guaranteed.
I might have already sealed my fate before this run even properly started.
No one can reach Wrys in time.
He'll be gone unless he dodges...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4276.png

I trade the Hand Axe back to Barst before starting the enemy phase with a heavy heart...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21412.png

Bord falls to the same pirate as Draug, the situation is becoming dire.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8990.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2173.png

WRYS
THE LEGEND
He defied everything and dodged a lethal blow.

Phew.
He lives!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21360.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24088.png

Gordin wanted to weaken this pirate, but he missed.
I already feel a burning hatred for this murderer of two.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9610.png

Ogma got the kill, cutting this fool down without mercy.
Losing Bord really shook Ogma...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23332.png

Cain took the thief down, leaving just the two cavaliers for us to finish off.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4085.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17487.png

I was planning to chip this cavalier in order to one-shot him with the Wing Spear later.
It wasn't meant to be.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29645.png

I made another mistake, intending to give the Hand Axe to Darros for him to attack on the same turn.
Sleep deprivation really does have a negative impact on one's strategy...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28900.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17244.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26984.png

Shiida made quite an impact by hitting a critical on one of the cavaliers.
This guarantees her safety for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28380.png

Wrys has evacuated the premises, hiding close to prince Marth.
Abel went ahead and threw a Javelin at the lone cavalier, wanting to get the damage started.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18413.png

Abel gained a level after surviving a hit from the cavalier.
I'm glad to see him gaining some speed, though his strength needs some work.

Gordin and Abel did some more chip damage to the cavalier of Grust, leaving him at just 5 HP.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20861.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9724.png

Darros went in for the kill and missed.
69 just wasn't my lucky number today.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16925.png

Shiida swooped in to save the day, the starting area is now finally safe again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31118.png

The time for fort healing has arrived.
The next update will show how many turns have passed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26028.png

14 turns later....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2094.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20871.png

Marth bravely awaits the lone pirate on this island.
Everyone else gathers around him, ready to provide support.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29325.png

Marth takes a hit and retaliates, fleeing to a nearby fort right after.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10557.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17686.png

Ogma and Cord team up to defeat this pirate.
Ogma managed to dodge the counterattack, leaving him unarmed.
Cord dealt the final blow, he too, being unharmed.

Everyone waits one turn for Marth to feel well again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19002.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10100.png

Marth came back from the fort, recieving a helping hand from Wrys.
Ogma awaits the lone pirate who suddenly started advancing toward us.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9668.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5389.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17401.png

The pirate got a hit in on Ogma, causing him to retreat to the fort.
Gordin and Cord took him out before he could inflict any more harm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20111.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32690.png

Ogma returned from the fort, recieving extra aid from Wrys as he approaches the front lines.
Wrys gained a small level for his help.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29897.png

Everyone took a step back, waiting for this special enemy hunter to come just a little closer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19056.png

Castor takes a shot at Cord, being noticeably weaker and slower than all the other enemies.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32612.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__192.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5682.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23228.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18991.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8593.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21360.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23086.png

I've always wondered how these two know each other.
Is Shiida just really involved with her people?
Hm...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25486.png

Castor joined our side.
He's a hunter, which is basically just a better archer.
We'll be using him for more chip damage.

Castor starts with a D Rank in Bows.
This gives him access to both Iron and Steel Bows.

Let's check his base stats and growths.
21 HP
7 Str
0 Mag
3 Skill
6 Spd
3 Lck
4 Def
0 Res

His growths.
40% HP
40% Str
0% Mag
40% Skill
40% Spd
20% lck
20% Def

Castor is a decent unit, although his low luck makes him weak to low% critical hits.
He became an absolute powerhouse in one of my runs, almost becoming good enough to wield both the Parthia and Mercurius.
I'm just glad to have a new unit to help fill the gaps.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22162.png

Wrys swoops in to heal Cord's wounds.
I'm still so glad that Wrys survived earlier...

I always enjoy these talk conversations.
Though it's kind of ironic that she says that she wants to talk more, only to then never speak to him again.
I wanted to get this conversation out of the way before one of them meets their untimely demise.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16001.png

We're going to lure the enemy one by one, starting with the lower pirate.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3491.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16906.png

Handling one enemy at a time is a piece of cake.
More than that presents some trouble.
Cain is ready and waiting, Iron Sword in hand.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3105.png

Cain gains a level for withstanding the pirate's attack.
His bulk is becoming quite decent.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20963.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18104.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5076.png

Having two bow users instead of one really helps with the chip damage output.
Marth took the kill, being just five exp away from another level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20547.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20083.png

Darros gave his Hand Axe to Barst who proceeded to block the bridge with it ready.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21980.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9312.png

Cain retreated and was patched up by our humble healer, Wrys.
We decided that this would be our formation for the coming enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9000.png

What?
I misread the pirate's range, so Abel got hit by both an axe and an arrow.
This enemy hunter is remarkably weak for some reason.
I'm glad, though.
Abel lives to fight another day.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30573.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25057.png

Marth sliced the hunter, gaining a small level for his troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22009.png

Shiida flew right into enemy range to take the hunter out.
She'll live, since only one of the two pirates to the left can attack her at a time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24180.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5027.png

Castor was supposed to just add some chip damage, but he wanted to demonstrate his potential with a random crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28196.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32422.png

Abel recieved some healing and everyone now waits for the pirates to approach us.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__638.png

Ogma got his first level after one of the pirates went for him.
This will really help us out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22162.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8614.png

Shiida and Barst took care of the upper pirate with two coordinated strikes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31859.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13817.png

Gordin and Cord took care of the lower pirate, leaving just the boss on the map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21489.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29985.png

Castor went to the armory, buying two Iron Axes and a Hand Axe for Barst and Darros.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15478.png

There's not much left to do on the map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20795.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20559.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25045.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27697.png

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3783.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9911.png

Marth visited a local village and promised to try and rescue a cleric named Lena.
5000 gold will certainly help in keeping her alive through healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20923.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25185.png

Castor handed both an Iron Axe and a Hand Axe over to Darros.
Barst came over and took the remaining Iron Axe from Castor.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1064.png

We're getting to the slow part of the map now.
I'll only show noteworthy events.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30506.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7188.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10223.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30532.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18565.png

Marth had a nice little chat with Castor.
I hope that he'll stick around until the end.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3891.png

Isn't this just identical to his last level up?
His luck levels are fitting when we look back at how he defied all odds while avoiding his own death.
I might just keep him in a magic class if he keeps gaining magic like this.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25418.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10316.png

Don't make promises you cannot keep.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10335.png

Marth reached a C Rank in Swords.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16912.png

Marth grows stronger every map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20917.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19788.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22754.png

Ogma truly is the slayer of Axe wielders.
I'm glad to have him around.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5188.png

It took 26 turns for us to defeat the boss.
We didn't need to break his weapon at least.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11923.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15985.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10149.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16913.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20326.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13708.png

The upcoming map will be challenging indeed.
Still, I'll figure something out.
Maybe I can find a good use for the legendary swordsman Navarre Nabarl.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11477.png

That aside, this chapter really was a rollercoaster...
My strategic mishaps cost us the lives of both Draug and Bord.
May they rest in peace...

Death Counter: 3

Names of the fallen by chapter

Chapter 1: Jagen
Chapter 2: Draug, Bord.

We've reached the end of Chapter 2.
It really was an adventure.
We just need to get through one more before we can use the preparations menu.

We'll be entering Soothsire territory tomorrow to rescue a certain cleric.
Who knows what else might happen?

I made a mistake somewhere.
We'll be losing at least one unit during the coming enemy phase.

It looks more like Cord is in trouble, unless that Pirate has an extra strength than the others...

Hard 5 still seems fair to me, all things considered.
It's tough as nails, but it doesn't throw anything truly unfair at the player.
Except reinforcements that move on the same turn, those can burn for all I care.

Sorry, but I can't agree, given that the beginning and ending are terribly designed; the earlygame has the first three bosses be a serious pain to kill, with two of them pretty much mandating breaking their weapons, and only one way to kill them that doesn't take forever, which requires lots of luck (as you happened to find out the hard way), and this is saying nothing of the fact that you don't get your healer until the first chapter is nearly over, meaning you have to rely on fort healing until then (and even afterwards, the one heal staff he comes with has to least two chapters), whereas the final boss pretty much forces the player to sacrifice units to kill him. I can't abide that kind of design; it reeks of the stench of "the developers just couldn't restrain themselves...".

Stat variance, one of the other small things few people talk about in Shadow Dragon.

Not that he has much competition.

Reason for the weird double post was a glitch in my original post.
I then tried posting it again, only to fail again.
More specifically, it only posted the "Replies" portion of the whole post.
So, I edited it instead, apologies for the weird format.

Chapter 3 is here.
We'll be ascending onto the Ghoul's Teeth to rescue a certain cleric.
As usual, we took two days to arrive at our next destination.
This time to mourn the loss of Draug and Bord, may they rest in peace.

Malledus has been following our group and giving orders from the sidelines.
He did suggest taking a detour instead of cutting right through Soothsire territory, but he was shot down.
Marth cannot abandon people in need.
We have to wonder if Marth will still have such a big heart once we reach the end of our journey....

I just wish there was more of it.

There's also  Alolan European Navarre, otherwise known as Nabarl.

This is Julian, a thief by trade.
He's locked in his class and unable to promote.
This isn't as bad as it is for Marth, though.
Julian has an eye for Lena, or it's implied at the very least.

He comes with an E Rank in Swords.
He can only wield Iron Swords at base.
This is still better as his NES counterpart, since he'll be able to improve his weapon rank.
He had a 0% Weapon Level growth back in the NES days, only allowing him to use other swords if you used a stat booster on him.

Let's take a look at his bases and growths.

His growths are amazing for Shadow Dragon standards.
He even beats Marth's Skill, Luck and Defense growths by 10% each.
Julian really is a good unit if you allow him to get a few kills and get his Sword Rank up.
He's also only one of two playable thieves in the game, the other one being quite inferior to him.
He once became a dragonslayer for me once he reached his Speed cap of 30 while using the Wyrmslayer and Mercurius.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9031.png

This is Lena, the best cleric in the game.
She's the exclusive wielder of the Hammerne staff.
And she heavily outclasses Wrys.

Lena starts with a C Rank in Staves.
This allows her to use Heal, Mend, the almighty Warp, Physic, Barrier and Hammerne.

Let's check her base stats and growth rates.

Her growths are rather lopsided, heavily leaning to Luck and Defense.
Still, most of her stats won't really matter.
We might use her high Res to tank Gharnef in the far future.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32014.png

I wonder why the game decided to deploy Wrys all the way over there compared to everyone else.
I must keep him alive, no matter what.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27458.png

I've thought of a plan.
This specific tile can be used as a chokepoint.
I'll put a disarmed Cain here and make a thief break his Iron Sword on him.
Wrys and Lena will be nearby to provide relief.
He'll also still have the Vulnerary on him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30715.png

Marth rushes over to the nearby village.
We'll be needing the cursed weapon that rests within.
A small group of stronger units follow along, ready to intercept the fighters later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11783.png

Lena and Julian are evacuating to the lower areas of the map while Cain and Abel run up to block the passage.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4267.png

Cain blocks the point and I realize my mistake too late.
Nabarl is going to move first, blocking the tile for everyone else.
The tile will be free once he's recruited, but the fighters can occupy it by then.
There's also the chance for getting hit by an unlucky crit.

Did I make this same mistake last time...?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19988.png

Shiida waits nearby, ready to recruit Nabarl on the next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19148.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18171.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2006.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16319.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6276.png

Marth visited the village and obtained this EVIL abomination of an axe.
The Devil Axe.
This weapon would see little use in a normal run, but we are in desperate need of some firepower.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31979.png

Darros heard whispers of evil coming from the axe.
He couldn't resist and took the weapon from Marth, ready to die with it in hand.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29445.png

Ogma fortified himself on the nearby fort.
He'll make sure to hit hard when the fighters approach.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6260.png

Everyone else is already bracing themselves for the massacre coming in just two turns...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31711.png

Tears, Nabarl.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21933.png

I came up with a new plan.
Shiida is going to recruit Nabarl, then he'll move to occupy the tile above Cain.
That way, the passage is still blocked.
Shiida will switch places with Nabarl on the next turn, throwing Javelins at whatever unit is waiting behind the first thief.
We should be able to keep this up until all of them have been cleared out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32393.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22993.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7249.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5621.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27408.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21849.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2727.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15215.png

Shiida convinced Nabarl to switch sides.
Now he can die for a better cause.
I'm kidding.

He says that he won't turn a blade on a woman, but he doesn't adhere to that at all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28525.png

This is Nabarl, the first myrmidon to join us.
He's similar to Ogma, but mostly worse.
He starts with a Killing Edge in his inventory, which will be great for dealing with the boss later.
I reclassed him to  a curate once, which was completely out of character.

He comes with a C Rank in Swords.
This gives him access to a variety of blades.
Iron, Steel, Levin, Killing Edges, Devil, Wyrmslayers and the Wo Dao.

Let's check his base stats and growth rates.

Some reclass him to a cavalier, which is highly recommended.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5921.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20716.png

Nabarl took the vulnerary and unequipped his Killing edge.
What do vulneraries taste like, anyway?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23819.png

Cain went to the lower fort for some quick healing.
He's close enough to return to his spot on the next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26524.png

Abel made a start on our plan, throwing a Javelin at the second thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26827.png

I sent both Wrys and Lena up to provide support.
Julian waits in front of them in case of an emergency.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14729.png

Our other squad is keeping their distance, waiting for the enemy to approach.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26009.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29952.png

Abel took care of one of the two thieves.
He gained a small level for his troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__184.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4529.png

Nabarl dodged one of the two hits from the thief.
He's still getting healed by Wrys, who reached a D Rank in Staves.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23701.png

The terrain allows us to make a wall of four units.
We'll be making ample use of this later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29680.png

Shiida got started on pelting those fighters with Javelins.
I decided to change my plan and leave Nabarl in that spot.
The thief would keep targeting him, unable to die due to an unlucky critical counterattack.
This strategy only holds water until our Heal staff runs out.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12666.png

Gordin went in for a solid hit, only to miss.
Maybe this is payback for that 85% dodge Wrys got the other day.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27388.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12612.png

Barst manages to land a hit with his less-accurate Hand Axe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27250.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11656.png

Marth sets him up with the Steel Axe before going in for the killing blow.
One fighter down, two to go.
Ogma retreated, planning to heal on the fort on the next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8274.png

We closed the opening in our defenses by moving Cord down.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15360.png

Nabarl recieved some aid from Wrys.
He'll need to withstand some more blows to the face...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21574.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13110.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8715.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27087.png

Both Shiida and Abel miss the mark.
This is going to take a while.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28711.png

Cord took an axe to the face and lived to tell the tale.
He got a modest level for his bravery.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13540.png

Barst unfortunately missed on his counterattack.
This might be troublesome later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19796.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17979.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29261.png

Castor and Gordin ganged up on this dodgy fighter.
They thankfully hit both of their shots.
Gordin got a rather disappointing level for his trouble.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20853.png

This was going to be the first time the Devil Axe got used in this run.
Darros held it tightly as he swung it down at his foe.
A visceral cruching noise could be heard as the axe crushed his opponent.

Darros was spared for now.
He resolved himself to carry the burden of the Devil Axe from this moment onward.
Not that he has a choice, the axe bound itself to him.
He'll only be freed of the weapon if it breaks through use alone.

And so, the story of the Saint of the Devil Axe begins...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21205.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22366.png

Barst tries his luck with another throw of the Hand Axe.
He sadly misses his mark this time around.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16438.png

Cord ran for the fort.
We'll be doing a lot of fort healing once this area is safe again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12547.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28817.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__61.png

Cain, Marth and Ogma combined their strengths to defeat this fighter with no chance of failure.
I also noticed that Cain is bulky enough to survive two hits from these monstrous foes.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6566.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__781.png

Abel threw a Javelin and hit his mark.
Shiida tried the same, but missed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23895.png

Nabarl was healed again, the uses on the heal staff coming close to running out...
Wrys tries his best to keep Nabarl motivated, but the grumpy myrmidon just mumbles that he's fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21229.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20864.png

Wrys healed Nabarl and gained a surprisingly good level.
We're going to be doing a lot of the same for the coming turns, so I'll only show the highlights.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12724.png

Just the turncounter for reference.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20349.png

Shiida got a level for hitting once.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1128.png

We're going to switch things up now.
We managed to kill one of the fighters within those 4 turns that passed.
We'll now be attacking these fighters directly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7814.png

Nabarl ran off to get some fort healing in later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14970.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10467.png

Abel threw a Javelin at the thief, reaching a B Rank in Lances.
He's now capable of wielding Jagen's Silver Lance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21322.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32221.png

Cain got some fort healing in during the last 4 turns.
He now swoops in to fix Abel's weapon and subdue the final thief.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8384.png

Julian ran for the mountains, wanting to contribute instead of just standing around.
He can survive a hit, so he should be fine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12408.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14236.png

The enemy went for Cain instead of Julian.
Cain decided to retreat for now, leaving the task of blocking the enemy to Abel and Julian.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24824.png

Shiida threw a Javelin and actually hit the mark.
Everything should go just fine unless Abel crits on a counterattack.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25475.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2043.png

Castor and Ogma got rid of the lower fighter.
Just one remains.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7817.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32046.png

Ogma chokes the point while both Abel and Julian wait around the fort.
I also moved Shiida out of range.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12226.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19499.png

Castor got the kill after Ogma countered the fighter on enemy phase.
The time for fort healing has arrived.
I'll just show the highlights until everyone is healthy again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15220.png

Abel accessed the convoy, retrieving both an Iron Lance and Jagen's old Silver Lance.
Abel will do everything to keep Jagen's memory alive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15672.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12671.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28323.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5432.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17318.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23882.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16202.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29556.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21417.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23387.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12289.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__204.png

Marth really has a big heart to welcome a former enemy so readily.
Then again, that's his specialty.
I do like the little bits of dialogue that Julian does get.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11366.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28955.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10273.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8333.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6145.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9191.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11300.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18324.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28923.png

Lena really will be a great help once she gets her hands on a few staves.
Though instant access to warp is also fantastic.
Marth's genuine confusion is quite entertaining.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30992.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11682.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23660.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4543.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30502.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6016.png

Nabarl seems to be in the same mood as usual.
I do admire his resolve, most people would quit after being forced to be a disarmed meatshield for a few turns straight.
I'm glad to have these conversations out of the way.
You never know, we might not have the chance to see them later...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25270.png

The fort healing wasn't finished yet, but a hunter decided to move all on his own.
Still, it took 16 turns of that to get us here.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25207.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19574.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27236.png

Barst will lure the hunter, Hand Axe ready.
Everyone else waits nearby, ready to surround him later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30158.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31012.png

The wounded hunter is easily defeated by both Darros and Julian.
Darros might be the wielder of the Devil Axe, but he's still sane enough to not use it when it's not needed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16081.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32107.png

Barst is patched up by Wrys to face the final hunter waiting ahead.
His trusty Heal staff broke, leaving us with nothing but fort healing for the remainder of this chapter.
Wrys plans to provide moral support instead, checking in on everyone during moments of calm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22187.png

Everyone except Nabarl heads over to the final part of the map.
He's still recovering from the injuries he got keeping everyone safe.
Wrys came to check up on him to discover something very troubling.
Nabarl sustained an injury to his sword arm that can only be healed by staves.
He won't be able to fight too much anymore....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32750.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18575.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14111.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4359.png

The hunter decided to come over to us on his own.
We gave him a very warm welcome and sent him to meet his comrades.
Abel grew just a little after the deed was done.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21944.png

We'll be luring the remaining two fighters on the next turn.
One has a Steel Axe, which is going to be scary to deal with.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1748.png

They decided to move on their own, so Ogma will weather their onslaught.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21155.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31680.png

Ogma dodged the incoming attack and countered.
Castor got a shot in and gained his first level.
Everyone is just waiting around until the next enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7416.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23826.png

Ogma dodged yet another attack and retaliated.
This left the fighter low enough to be struck down by the Devil Saint.
Darros pilfered a vulnerary from his fallen foe.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1329.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6271.png

The Devil Saint took an axe to the face and retreated.
Gordin came in and shot the lone fighter.
Julian swooped in and occupied the fort after Darros left.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11462.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29135.png

Julian dodged the attack and countered during the enemy phase.
Gordin and him then teamed up to wipe him out.
Julian is now just 20 exp short of gaining a level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5783.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6087.png

Only the boss named Reynard remains.
Well, him and a random unmoving hunter on the other side of the map.
I'll only be showing the highlights, since this boss is notoriously difficult to take down.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6195.png

Shiida flew over to the armory to buy one Iron Sword for Nabarl.
She wasn't aware of his injury.
He gets doubled by the boss while using his Killing Edge, but an Iron Sowrd doesn't weigh him down.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26793.png

Isn't that the point of an Iron Man run?
Anyhow, this chapter is going too well for someone to die now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18716.png

Ogma has really been growing nicely.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32048.png

This is it, let's take him out!

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16347.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32151.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3033.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16548.png

Nabarl gathered his resolve, holding his Iron Sword with two hands.
He then brought his blade down on Reynard, ending his life with one clean cut.
That final slash was all that he could muster, his sword arm now being out of comission...
A man of the sword being unable to lift one anymore?
Pathetic.

Wrys came up to Nabarl after everything was over.
He presented Nabarl with a choice and an apology....

That didn't take long at all compared to my usual attempts.
Luck was on my side.
I'm just glad that everyone survived.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8638.png

It only took 10 turns, that really is a new record.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25969.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29958.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18217.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23371.png

This is the first time that Malledus appears.
He doesn't do too much throughout the story, but it's fun to have him around.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6067.png

I'm really glad that I managed to survive this chapter in one piece.
In fact, enough people survived to avoid the recruitment of generics this time.
At least, I think that that holds true.

We'll have to wait and see what's going to happen between Wrys and Nabarl.

Also, it took around 4 hours and 30 minutes, not counting breaks, to finish this post.
Phew.

Well, that was chapter 3.
It's always one of the harder ones on this difficulty.

We'll descend upon the lea when we reach chapter 4.
Well, unless the enemy litters the lea with our cavalry.
There are also going to be some reclasses then.

Anyhow, see you all when the next post drops.

Chapter 4 is finally here.

Our group took a bit of a break to celebrate the fact that we suffered no casualties during the last chapter.
Most of us are in good spirits, barring Nabrl, who wears his usual scowl.
He'll make his choice within the Preparations Menu.

The lea of Aurelis is going to be a bit of a challenge.
Shiida already scouted the area, noting the presence of two villages and thieves roaming about.
Malledus took note of this information and provided counsel to Marth.
Marth gave the order right after.
Protect the villages!

Current death count: 3

Chapter 4

Spoiler

There can't be a chapter without a battle...
So is life.
Facing the enemy's cavalry will be a challenge, but we should be able to perservere with Shiida on our side.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32453.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__805.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4241.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23957.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2010.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16780.png

Sound advice, Malledus.
Preparation is key in the art of war.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26025.png

This menu will be the key to our victory.
I'll just give a brief summary of what I did to prepare.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21927.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16604.png

Nabarl is no longer fit for combat after sustaining grievous injuries during the last chapter.
Our Heal staff ran out, causing the damage to his sword arm to be permanent.
He won't be able to wield a physical weapon effectively again.

Wrys felt bad for him, giving him the choice to wield the staff instead.
In a way, he still gets to decide over the lives of others, just in a different way.
Some of the members of our army chuckled at the sight of Nabarl in a curate's garb.
He'll be the one having the last laugh when they need healing.

Wrys steeled himself while deciding to take up the sword.
He'll continue Nabarl's legacy as a show of good faith.
There's just one slight problem....
Wrys lacks the strength to wield even an Iron Sword properly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7461.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__63.png

So we forged one for him.
The name might not be as creative, but it will do.
This blade will sever the enemy, healing the land of their presence.
At least, that is how Wrys wishes to see it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14846.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17096.png

We bought a few Heal staves offscreen for both Lena and Nabarl.
After all, we'll be needing it.
We altered our starting positions a little, having Ogma guard the rear.
He has enough speed to double the fighters, allowing us some breathing room later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10441.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20059.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3287.png

The enemy tries to intimidate the Altean Army with their band of lickspittles.
Whose cavalry will litter this lea, I wonder?
That Ridersbane he's holding would be a valuable addition to our weaponry.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25084.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5679.png

Abel and Wrys team up to take the nearby thief out.
The blade bearing the same name as himself easily cuts through,
I only just noticed that Wrys is also fast enough to double the fighters nearby with his personal blade.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28260.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6215.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4169.png

Ogma and Barst lure the incoming fighters.
Both will deal some decent damage on the counterattack.
Everyone else gathers nearby to help out on the following turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24499.png

Abel and Shiida head over to the left side to intercept the other thief.
Our trusty Silver Lance is going to come in handy.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16859.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1568.png

My plan was to clear a path for Ogma to defeat the hunter.
He was still in good health after dodging a hit from the fighter.
The hunter has 10 speed for some reason, I could have sworn that they usually have way more speed than that...
Maybe stat variance is playing in my favor?
Either that, or something is very wrong...

Anyhow, Darros tried his hand at throwing a Hand Axe.
The results were disappointing.
The Devil Axe seems to pulse, almost as if to urge him to use it again...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9545.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6217.png

Barst showed Darros how it's done, landing a clean hit with his own Hand Axe.
He gained a decent level for the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12052.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__242.png

I wanted to make the area a little safer after I noticed that Ogma wasn't able to oneround the hunter.
Castor wanted to show off and simply crit the fighter.
They really are fond of their random crits, aren't they?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1653.png

Nabarl used his heal staff for the first time.
He kind of awkwardly tapped Barst's shoulder with it, but it did the trick.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25885.png

Cain and Ogma block the incoming enemies, both are capable of taking both a hit from a fighter and the hunter.
Cain even avoids getting doubled due to the poor stat variance on the hunter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15468.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11806.png

Shiida and Abel manage to finish the hunter off with exact damage.
They also did it in such a way to halt the thief's advance on the nearby village.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15835.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15644.png

Ogma's wounds were mended by Lena.
Nabarl's healing wouldn't be enough to ensure his survival.
Ogma defeated the fighter in front of him, enduring a harsh counterattack.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23840.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26672.png

Nabarl healed Barst once more.
The former swordsman seems to have some respect for him.
He gained a level, really showing that juicy 30% Res growth.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30810.png

Darros succumbed to the whispers of that accursed Axe, readying it for combat.
He stood right next to the mortified hunter.
He lifted the weighty axe up, determination in his eyes.
Then, he swung it down without hesitation.
A scream echoed across all of the lea of Aurelis.
But it wasn't Darros.

The hit succeeded.
The hunter crumpled to the floor, barely clinging on to life.
The Devil Axe glimmered a little, satisfied for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7104.png

Marth came in to finish the job.
Almost feeling bad for this hunter.
He closed his eyes and stabbed him, ending his suffering.
He then placed a hand on Darros's shoulder while giving him a worried look.

The Devil Saint walks a path of sacrifice, be it his own or his enemies.
Will he make it to the end with his sanity intact?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15890.png

Cain arrived next to Darros, helping him to wield another axe to avoid getting doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22786.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19501.png

Castor got a sneaky shot in before the opening was covered by Cord.
Everyone should be safe for the coming turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2473.png

Darros survives a hit from the surrounded fighter.
He gains a level.
The pact with the Devil Axe might involve more than just the axe.
Perhaps it wishes for him to grow strong, only to revel when he finally succumbs to bad fortune.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9072.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22999.png

The thief decided to be sneaky by crossing the river.
He sadly wasn't sneaky enough.
Getting impaled by two well-thrown Javelins ended him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31772.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4813.png

Wrys took hold of an Iron Sword like Nabarl used the chapter before.
It's weight made him a little uncomfortable, but there was no need to waste a use of his own blade on this fighter.
He quickly put the guy out of his misery, gaining a fantastic level.
Is it just me, or has he consistently gained Luck every level?
It really is fitting, considering his miraculous escape from death a few chapters ago.

This just shows that good intentions allow you to push past your boundaries.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11371.png

Nabarl headed up to Darros, giving him some aid.
He does respect the former man o' the sea for being willing to wield such a weapon.
He doesn't linger on weapon usage too long, else he'll remind himself of his own condition.
Nabarl seems to be getting more frail with every passing chapter...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1009.png

Lena went ahead and healed Cain.
She asked him to be gentle on one of the approaching cavaliers.
When asked which one she meant, she just gave a mysterious smile and said that he'll know the one she means.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6131.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13595.png

There were no more healers available, so Ogma asked Wrys if he could have his vulnerary.
He kindly gave it to Ogma, who gratefully consumed it.
He'll be able to survive another round like this.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5957.png

Everyone squishes themselves into this gap while awaiting the incoming cavaliers.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13396.png

Abel waits in range of one of the cavaliers, mostly to spread them out.
This will lessen the burden on our main group.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__308.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8799.png

Nabarl lends a healing hand to Darros, bringing him back to full health.
Looking at this man makes him feel weak, he slams his staff against the ground, reopening one of the wounds on his arm.

Lena lends a hand to Ogma while casting a worrying gaze at the conflicted former swordsman at her side.
He has to take it slow, lest he loses use of his arm completely.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2987.png

Marth invoked his royal lineage, allowing him to walk into the lake and out of harm's way.
Cain and Cord will block the enemy's advance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31948.png

Cain gained just HP for surviving a hit.
Still, he's been reliable so far.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10249.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22886.png

Wrys readied his special blade, gravely wounding the enemy cavalier with two swift slices.
In fact, he's currently the fastest person in our army, even outspeeding Shiida.
That aside, Gordin laid the cavalier to rest with one clean shot.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24390.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9777.png

Barst and Marth teamed up to defeat the nearby cavalier.
More specifically, Barst attacked first, landing a clean hit while defiantly dodging the counterattack.
Marth once again invoked his royal lineage, crossing the waters as if they were just another path to tread.
His Rapier easily finished the job.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5244.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23138.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2189.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10218.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4074.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31375.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13277.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14512.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__693.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6935.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11979.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23700.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18228.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7609.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5188.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2819.png

Lena recruits Matthis, the noticeably weaker cavalier.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32148.png

Cain got some quick healing from Lena after her talk with her brother.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12199.png

This is Matthis, Lena's brother.
I would normally make a joke about him being free experience, but that would be rather harsh.
He was forced to enlist, which means he really isn't a proper soldier.
That's a valid explanation for his rather disappointing bases.

He comes with an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Lances.
This gives him Javelin utility at the very least, even if he does get weighed down by them to the point of getting doubled by nearly every enemy.

Let's take a look at his bases and growths.
20 HP
5 Str
0 Mag
2 Skill
6 Spd
0 Lck
7 Def
0 Res

His growths
90% HP
40% Str
0% Mag
30% Skill
20% Spd
30% Lck
30% Def
0% Res

Matthis is not a soldier, just a victim of circumstance.
He can grow into an able warrior if he wishes it.
If not, then he'll become Malledus's personal bodyguard while safely keeping watch over our encampment.
Time will tell.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4490.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__829.png

Shiida threw a Javelin at this lone cavalier while Abel decides to lure him away.
This should be a safe move, even if he does face a 1% crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10497.png

This truly is a reversal, isn't it?
Their roles have switched.

Wrys is thankful for Nabarl's aid, giving him a small nod.
He then takes the opportunity to check Nabarl's arm, noticing the reopened wounds.
Wrys might have reclassed, but he's not above rendering aid to  a friend.
He cuts a piece of fabric from his robe, then proceeds to wind it around Nabarl's injury.

It's best for him not to exert himself too much.
Even healing duty could cause his condition to worsen.
Wrys's face brightens as he gets an idea.
He asks Nabarl if he would be willing to provide him with some extra training of the sword.
Wrys would happily return the favor by teaching him some more about staves.

These two seem to be becoming fast friends....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17484.png

The remaining cavalier is surrounded by our group.
He's most likely going to attack Matthis on the coming turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5397.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8556.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3137.png

Shiida and Abel defeated this cavalier with ease.
Shiida got a typical level for her troubles.
She now has both equal Speed and HP to Wrys.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14437.png

Nabarl seems to be giving Wrys priority despite many of our units being wounded.
Matthis looked at him pleadingly, but he was promptly ignored.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22908.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__861.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9531.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19534.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12160.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16732.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19292.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22735.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12178.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27048.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3385.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17976.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9365.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20516.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4470.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31152.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5092.png

This guy must really have been terrified of Michalis.
Luckily, prince Marth isn't a tyrant.
Matthis will be safer with us than with Medon.
Really and truly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1615.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32486.png

Matthis took the opportunity to borrow a Javelin from our convoy.
He threw it at the remaining cavalier and hit the mark.
I'm trying to set him up as a kill for Julian.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11466.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1687.png

Castor and Gordin slowly destroy his resolve...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3958.png

Cain goes in to bring his HP down low enough for Julian to finish him off.
Except....He misses.
He misses a 93% hit.
Hah.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12275.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25433.png

Marth takes the initiative, bringing the cavalier down low enough for Julian to take out.
He gained an excellent level for his contribution.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30722.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9513.png

See?
Exact damage.
Julian got a typical level.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13633.png

Lena saw Matthis getting ignored by Nabarl, so she decided to help him herself.
Matthis might be a fool, but he's still family to her.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29574.png

It's nice and calm now that all the enemies on this side of the map have been routed.
I'll just show the highlights while everyone heads to the nearby village.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3455.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8171.png

A few turns pass in relative peace while our two healers both gain a level.
Nabarl is just lucky to be alive, I suppose.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27534.png

Ogma waits right over here, blocking the enemy from crossing the bridge.
This spot is perfectly safe since the knight doesn't move until attacked.
The archers can't attack him due to the knight's placement.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21535.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31598.png

Cain and Abel both recieve aid.
They have grown into dependable cavaliers.
Haven't they?
One following in Jagen's footsteps while the others favors the path of the sword.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22573.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10461.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9522.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15225.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4990.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17619.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9947.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30749.png

Marth visits the village, meeting a familiar face.
Merric, a childhood friend of his.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20988.png

This is Merric, wielder of the famed Excalibur tome.
He's generally a good unit for me, no matter what I reclass him to.
He'll serve us well, especially with instant access to Excalibur.

He starts with a D Rank in tomes, allowing him to use Fire, Thunder, Blizzard and Elfire.
Mages are a bit of a mixed bag in this game, because tomes weigh them down.
They usually have no strength, so they'll lose 1 point of attack speed at the very least.

Let's take a look at his bases and growths.
20 HP
0 Str
3 Mag
6 Spd
3 Lck
4 Def
3 Res

His growths.
60% HP
0% Str
40% Mag
50% Skill
40% Spd
45% luck
5% Def
20% Res

His growths are generally quite good.
He's a solid unit to use and doesn't really fall off.
He'll even be useful if you don't train him much, due to the convenience of Excalibur.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__97.png

I bought some Fire tomes back in the Battle Preparations Menu to allow him to save on Excalibur uses.
The tome usually lasts through the whole game, but it doesn't hurt to be frugal.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4698.png

Darros is going to occupy the spot behind Ogma on the following turn.
This allows only one of the archers to attack him per turn.
This also gives us the chance to train some of our melee units when the archer gets himself stuck between the knight and Ogma.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4110.png

Our healers are nearby and Julian has switched places with Ogma.
Darros will endure some punishment for the greater good.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4259.png

This is going to be a little boring, so I'll just skip ahead and only show the important bits.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2408.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24313.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20565.png

We made some good progress.
I'm starting to get attached to my units, a rarity these days.
Heh, I'll do my best to keep them alive.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20744.png

The knight and Julian are having a staring contest until the turn ends.
Darros and Julian are going to switch places next turn.
After that, he's going to throw a Hand Axe to finally get the knight to move.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4044.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4952.png

Darros attacked the knight.
He then got a helping hand from Merric to be able to double the knight during the enemy phase.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__479.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24756.png

Merric got a hit in.
I swear that he usually doubles this knight.
Maybe stat variance changed it today?
That aside, Barst finished him off.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17193.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25698.png

Abel went up to Marth to grab a new Javelin, since his one is about to break.
He might seem to be in a dangerous position, but he's capable of surviving two hits.
And he probably won't get crit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5790.png

Everyone moved around to just be a little closer to the incoming horsemen.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12066.png

Abel's Javelin broke after counterattacking.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17690.png

Shiida took care of the wounded horseman with exact damage thanks to her reliable Wing Spear.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23833.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24089.png

Darros was healed up by both of our healers.
Nabarl reached a D Rank in Staves, though I didn't screenshot it in time.
Ah, I know, I'll show it at the end of the chapter.
Darros needs this healing for a sneaky plan of mine.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15374.png

Marth wounds the remaining horseman with his Rapier, weakening him enough to succumb to another strong hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2944.png

Darros readies himself,Devil Axe once again in hand.
The whispers coming from the axe intensify as the bloodstained metal emits an ominous glow...

He lifts it up, ready to destroy the threat standing before him.
He slams the axe down onto the head of his victim.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31912.png

...A scream could be heard.
The axe did not tear into the flesh of his opponent.
Instead, it turned around at the last moment, cleaving into his own flesh instead.
Darros fell over backward, clutching his shoulder.
The cursed axe just lays on the ground, seemingly satisfied for now.

Our team of healers can't help him until the following turn.
He faced death, but lived to tell the tale.
Just 22 uses left, then he'll be free...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30818.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3730.png

Abel rushed in to finish the job, Jagen's old Silver Lance in hand.
He easily finished the job, growing just a little stronger.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2843.png

Wrys got two practice swings in on the remaining curate.
Not necessarily with the intent of killing him.
No, he simply wishes to teach this misguided soul a lesson.

Julian will come in to finish the job later.
Until then...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1701.png

The curate has been surrounded.
No escape in sight.

The following turns won't be too eventful, so I'll only show the highlights.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30024.png

Julian took him out on the next turn.
May he rest in peace.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10127.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28760.png

That line hints at some unwavering confidence.
At least that is admirable.
You can die fighting for what you believe in.

It's quite interesting that he doesn't even acknowledge Matthis, despite him having stood next to him for quite a few turns.
He must really have it rough.
Then again, would they care about your betrayal if they completely forgot you?
Hmmm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10387.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29645.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29518.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23146.png

We welcome all contributions to our cause.
Though, never feel pressured to lend us your aid.
We simply wish to help.

Marth's heart is still very much open.
I wonder how long that will last.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6315.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21979.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32359.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19612.png

I decided not to grind and just sent my fighter jet, also known as Shiida, to deal with him.
We got a nice level and a near-mint Ridersbane for our efforts.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4572.png

There was some off-screen healing while Marth was walking from the village to the gate.
This reminds me that I forgot to show Nabarl's Weapon Ranks.
I'll try to remember to show it in the preparations menu in the next chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23602.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29154.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18918.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20752.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16037.png

I'll be keeping that Silver Sword for myself.
It's not like Hardin could actually use it.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20158.png

No one died again.
This feels good, really good, even.
Though it's still early in the run and things could still blow up in my face.
Just...One chapter at a time.

Wrys did surprisingly well with a sword in hand.
Though that might be more because of the ridiculous forge than because of him.
Darros faced the first backfire of the Devil Axe and lived to tell the tale.
Will he manage to rid himself of that accursed axe before it takes his life?

Chapter 4 is over already, how time flies.
It really felt liberating to get access to the Preparations Menu.

Chapter 5 is next, in which we'll meet Hardin and princess Nyna.
I have a feeling that the coming chapter might change history as we know it.
We'll see how it goes at our own pace.

Now then, thank you all for reading and see you again when the next post arrives.

I wish recruitable characters had some stat variance too.
I'm not counting the generics at the moment.

I think the only game with them on recruitables have them as part of the FE6 Hard mode bonuses, and FE7 HHM bonuses. Fun fact in FE6 they were a glitch, where the game unintentionally gave the bonus "levelup" stats that units get in hardmode, if they spawn as enemies after the map starts (even if they are only enemies in an event, as Milady showed...).

Cain blocks the point and I realize my mistake too late.
Nabarl is going to move first, blocking the tile for everyone else.
The tile will be free once he's recruited, but the fighters can occupy it by then.
There's also the chance for getting hit by an unlucky crit.

That is an unfortunate oversight...here is hoping the killer edge isn't true to its name...

At least the devil axe wouldn't have killed him outright, but if it had backfire the counter attacks would finish him...

Our Heal staff ran out, causing the damage to his sword arm to be permanent.

Chapter 5 is upon us.

The Altean Army took 6 days to arrive at our next destination.
The trip was a peaceful one, even if we underestimated the terrain a little.
Shiida flew ahead and wasn't seen for a while.

She eventually returned bearing news of a battle ahead.
The remaining Aurelian forces were heavily outnumbered by the Medonian forces.
One of their men ordered the retreat, causing them all to flee to the southern fortress.

Their fort had a superior position compared to the plains, only being accessible by taking one of two narrow mountain roads.
Their commander, Hardin, had a trick up his sleeve, blocking both passages with questionably obtained Shine Barriers.
This bought them enough time for prince Marth and his Altean Army to reach the battlefield.

Marth wanted to plan a strategy with Malledus, but here simply wasn't enough time.
Whose resolve will break first?

Aurelis has been fighting for all this time, still standing if only by some miracle.
Most of its soldiers have already been massacred while the flames of war rage on.
They need our aid as much as we need theirs .

We got some moments to prepare before setting foot on the battlefield in front of us.
Tents were pitched as our camp took shape.
Shiida provided us with a rough map of the battlefield ahead thanks to her reconnaissance.
Who knew that this flying princess had an affinity for art too?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32108.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20417.png

Marth decided to give Shiida a present for all of her hard work.
So he went to the armorer and had her Wing Spear enhanced.
He asked her if it was alright to name her Wing Spear after his fallen comrade, Jagen, and she agreed.
She might not have known the fallen veteran well, but she still respected him a great deal for keeping Marth safe throughout the years.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15095.png

We have more units available than the deployment limit allows.
It took me some time to pick everyone, but we settled for Marth, Abel, Cain, Merric, Shiida, Wrys, Ogma, Nabarl, Darros and Barst.

I decided to not deploy any bow users since we have Merric to help us against the fliers.
Lena's safety is very important, so she gets to provide moral support from beyond the battlefield.
Matthis is happy to sit this one out, instead using his newfound time to catch up with his sister.
Julian kept close to Lena, who eventually just invited him to sit with her instead of sneakily hiding behind a tent.
Gordin and Castor trained their archery, though one of their arrows horribly missed the mark and flew right into Malledus's tent.
Screams were heard that day.
Cord went around camp and cut some wood.

Malledus went back to planning after removing the arrow from his cape.
His class might be that of a bishop, but he cannot fight.
His studies took him down the path of remote viewing and telepathy.
While not being fit for combat, he can still assist by giving advice from far away while having a clear outlook on the battle at hand.
He could also try telepathy on the opponent to confuse them, but that approach is ill advised,
The enemy likely has a similar tactician lurking beyond the battlefield...

Nabarl was brought along to the battle despite his declining health.
If he's going to die, then he might as well go down fighting...Or around fighting.
This caused Wrys to tag along out of worry for the former swordsman.
Everyone else was selected by Marth and Malledus.

His growths are everything.
Wolf will be a fantastic unit, unless you plan on making him a sorcerer.
I might actually try that if I manage to avoid casualties again.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28482.png

This is Sedgar, he too, is notorious.
He's like Wolf, a pre-promoted unit with low bases but ridiculous growths.
Sedgar is also a little like Darros.
Being set up to fail.

He has an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Bows.
He comes with a Steel Bow which weighs him down to the point of getting doubled.

Let's admire his bases and growths.

Sedgar is usually picked to be a general.
Though really, he can be good at anything.
...Except being a sorcerer.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9716.png

This is the fantastic Vyland.
...Though he's fantastic in name only.
He, too, is set up like Darros.
Starting with a weapon that weighs him down to the point of getting doubled.

He comes with an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Lances.
This gives him Javelin utility at the very least.

Let's check his bases and growths.

Vyland isn't a good unit.
He still has his uses due to Javelin utility, but he won't be good without a lot of work.
I once reclassed him to an Archer in one of my runs, he didn't do too much.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25440.png

Roshea exists.
I once reclassed him to a mage in one of my runs.
He was underwhelming.

Roshea comes with an E Rank in Swords and a D Rank in Lances.
Like Vyland, this allows him to wield Javelins, which adds some value to him.

Let's check his bases and growths, shall we?

Roshea is like Vyland, not that good of a unit.
His growths can make him decent, but that Speed growth is really his bane.

Now that these character introductions are out of the way...
Let's finally get started with the gameplay.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11079.png

Every enemy now uses Steel weapons.
This might seem bad, but there's a silver lining.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9471.png

The flyers also use Steel weapons.
Why is that good, you may ask?
They get weighed down by 2 points of speed by them.
This allows our faster units to double them, like Wrys for example.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3521.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13102.png

We don't do too much on the first turn.
Our main army is going to lure the nearby cavaliers and flyer to us while the knights of Aurelis keep a safe distance for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16254.png

Nabarl came to Barst's aid, healing him enough to be able to survive another hit.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4538.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11950.png

Shiida easily defeated one of the cavaliers with the almighty Jagen in hand.
She reached a B Rank in Lances for her hard work.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28995.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8161.png

Merric flexed some of his magical muscle before Abel went in with his Ridersbane, the cavalier stood no chance.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10464.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10123.png

Darros could KO the remaining cavalier on his own if he used the Devil Axe.
Luckily, he managed to reel himself in and use a Hand Axe instead.
Marth went in and got the kill, giving a thumbs up to Darros for his hard work.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5636.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9433.png

Wrys awaits the flyer from the forest.
He should be able to survive and double in return.
Wolf decided to take a risk and lure one of the enemy archers to his group, alleviating the pressure on the Altean Army just a tad.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23692.png

Wrys the dodgemaster!
Hah.
It seems that he is truly blessed with luck.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28690.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4111.png

The diversion worked, though Hardin's group is now in peril.
Hardin takes Vyland's Steel Lance and readies himself for battle.
Only the nearby cavalier can reach their group right now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16664.png

Darros managed to resist the whispers of the Devil Axe once more, instead opting to use a regular Iron Axe.
He hit his mark and the enemy Pegasus Knight is no more.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22767.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14016.png

Barst and Ogma team up to defeat this archer.
Is it just me or are the archers in Hard 5 really tanky for some reason?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31424.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28184.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3829.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20707.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7674.png

Marth meets Wendell, a man who pleads for peace.
...Despite fighting for the enemy just moments ago with no hesitation to kill any of us.
Hm.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15556.png

Wendell retrieved a Fire tome I had prepared from the convoy.
I forgot to give him one of my spare Heal staves, so he'll have to get that next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21029.png

Abel decides to lure the one cavalier wielding a Javelin.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28915.png

I almost forgot to talk about Wendell.
He's a staple of any Hard 5 run.
Swift and strong despite his age.

He comes with a B Rank in Tomes and a D Rank in Staves.
This allows him to wield every tome barring Starlight, Excalibur included.
D Staves is just nice to have for extra utility.

Let's take a look at his bases and growths.

Wendell is a very good unit.
His base strength allows him to use most tomes without getting weighed down.
His base speed is ridiculous, it getting even higher when reclassed.
His growths aren't that impressive, but his bases will last through most of the game.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6948.png

Our unit positions before the turn ends.
The incoming archers might cause us some trouble.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24181.png

Vyland blocks this path, he can only get attacked by one of the archers.
He's barely fast enough to avoid getting doubled.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3530.png

We're going to chip this guy down until Hardin can take him out.
Sedgar goes first and draws his Steel Bow...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5925.png

...And decides to show off, landing a crit and making our life a whole lot easier.
Bow Users and their random crits...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27505.png

Both Wolf and Hardin occupy a fort for some small healing.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14879.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21840.png

Abel wanted to get rid of this guy as soon as possible, especially because that 1% crit chance.
He made quick work of the cavalier with his trusty Ridersbane, gaining a point of speed for the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28734.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4965.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25037.png

Merric and Wendell burned the thief with their magic.
Marth went in and took the kill.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21488.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5797.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12181.png

Nabarl lend a hand to Abel, healing him a little.
His resistance just keeps growing...
Being unable to use a weapon really bothers him.
And turning into a magical wall really wasn't one of his plans for life.

I suppose that that is one small advantage of his declining health, the frailer you become, the greater the need for magic becomes.
Let's see if he manages to get his resistance to 20 before promotion.

Also, I finally remembered to show proof of him having reached a D Rank in Staves.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31818.png

We blocked the remaining thief with both Shiida and Wrys.
The village is ours.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24464.png

Roshea trades places with his best friend, Vyland.
This should buy us one more turn before the casualties start.
Wolf had to flee back to our starting area, since a very dangerous Pegasus Knight approaches us from the left.
We might get lucky and have it fly into our range.
If not, then we're toast.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27069.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16046.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30497.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13028.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28529.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19640.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5320.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4826.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29713.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25500.png

Marth visits the village and proceeds to silently stare one of the residents down until he hands his valuables over.
Jokes aside, I really do enjoy the writing here.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11033.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25397.png

Abel throws a Javelin at the thief, pinning him in place.
Wrys quickly jumps in and slices him in half.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23644.png

Wendell accessed the magical portal to our convoy within Marth's pocket dimension.
Now he can heal.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25828.png

Nabarl the resistant heals Barst back up to full health.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9729.png

Shiida lies in wait, ready to strike the boss at the next turn, hopefully preventing reinforcements.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28279.png

He actually dodged.
Everyone might actually survive this chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24030.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12483.png

Wolf and Sedgar took the Pegasus Knight out without issue.
The Wolfguard will remain safe as long as someone blocks the archers.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8828.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25861.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4476.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15957.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13761.png

Shiida made very quick work of the boss with a fantastic critical hit.
She obtained a pristine Silver Lance for the kill and hopefully stopped reinforcements from showing up.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22406.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5197.png

Merric and Barst take care of a nearby Knight.
We need to open the way for Marth after all.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2343.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13497.png

Darros waits in range of the other Knight.
I'd usually not bother, but this guy has a Door Key on him which will come in handy for the next chapter.
The Wolfguard just maintain their positions.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12428.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10923.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30714.png

Merric went ahead and attacked the key-bearing Knight.
He really flexed some magical muscle and crit the Knight, nothing was left of him...
We got the Door Key, though.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4022.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29046.png

Shiida flew over to the lone Curate and just started poking him.
She gained a level for her pestering.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6538.png

Roshea went to the fort to rest while Sedgar unequipped his bow and manned the chokepoint.
Marth just needs two more turns to reach the seize point.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8388.png

Nabarl healed to train his Staff Rank.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5730.png

Sedgar got hit and switched places with Hardin.
He'll be the last one blocking the area.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10761.png

Shiida murdered the defenseless curate in cold blood.
Experience is experience.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13973.png

Marth can finally seize when the next turn comes.
Nabarl healed Barst once offscreen.
We also visited the armory and bought one Javelin offscreen.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3576.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14326.png

Wrys got some practice swings in before the end of the chapter.
He gained Speed and even Resistance.
Who needs strength anyway?

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18061.png

Darros wanted to get one final hit in before the chapter ended.
He readied the cursed Axe over the archer's head.
Then, he took a deep breath before bringing the axe down on his head.
A scream and a horrid crunching sound could be heard...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2887.png

Alas, it was not his foe who suffered a grievous injury.
It was the man o' the sea, Darros once more.
He screamed in pain, holding his head.

The Devil Axe slipped out of his hand, it still thirsts for more...
Darros looked death in the eyes yet again...

22 uses remain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26887.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5036.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12542.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1656.png

Marth seized the gate, ending the chapter.
He got the chance to meet Hardin's brother, the king of Aurelis.
More trouble awaits our small army within the castle walls...

Wait, where was the king hiding, then?
Was he held hostage?
He couldn't have been in the palace since it's still in enemy hands.
Curious.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11815.png

I really didn't expect to get through this chapter without anyone dying.
I might never even meet generics if this keeps up.

I'm just glad.
Hopefully all goes well for the chapters yet to come.

That concludes Chapter 5.
We've certainly seen many new faces.

Chapter 6 is next, in which we attempt to rob liberate treasures from the castle nearby.
We'll also be meeting one new face there.
It really shouldn't take us 6 days to walk through the front gate, but you never know...

I'll try to update more frequently in the future.
Thank you all for following this screenshot let's play.

Named after Jagen...a fitting memorial for the fallen hero.

All this little drama on the bench is kinda amusing.

Nice, the whole wolf guard are going to live this map.

Nice, no deaths again, despite how precarious the wolf guard's position can be..

This might be the best timeline for my iron man runs yet.

Another uncomfortably close call for Darros...that 1% crit could have ended him there.

He must live until the end...

Well done...although I will strangely miss the generics if it happens

The generics provide a lot of fun challenges.
Maybe I'll do a generic run someday.
Writing stories for all of them would be fun, after all.

Chapter 6 approaches.

The Altean Army has taken a different approach for this chapter.
Malledus urged us to deploy seige tactics, surrounding the castle and trapping the enemy within.
Nine days have passed and all is silent.

Our group is just camping out around the palace while the king of Aurelis paces around back and forth.
We eventually sent Julian inside to check the situation.
Everyone within had succumbed to hunger.

So, on to chapter 7!

...I'm kidding, if only things were that easy.

Marth discussed his options with Malledus before finally giving the order to breach the palace.
We might be walking into a death trap, but Marth has faith in his friends that all will be well.

...Will it, though?

Current death count: 3
Names of the fallen by chapter

Chapter 1: Jagen.
Chapter 2: Draug and Bord.

We do have a thief on hand, actually.
And soon, we'll have two, and then even three.
Though one can only open chests part-time when his princely duties don't get in the way.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6475.png

We didn't do too much for our battle preparations.
Matthis wanted to tag along to protect his sister.
Marth eventually accepted and allowed him to come as bearer of a Door Key.

We ended up deploying Marth, Shiida, Cain, Abel, Matthis, Darros, Merric, Wendell, Wrys, Ogma, Julian, Barst, Lena and Nabarl.
Everyone else is staying behind to protect our tactician, Malledus.
The entire Wolfguard is among them, gladly taking the opportunity to rest after narrowly escaping with their lives in the last chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7327.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12603.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15245.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6225.png

This man is Emereus, the boss of this chapter.
He's going to prepare to withdraw, despite being trapped.
If they ever remake FE1 again, then I'd hope that they add some new chapter goals, like protecting the fort Nyna hid in during Chapter 5 or the boss actually retreating if you can't get to him in time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21063.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10576.png

Matthis does his job wonderfully, unlocking the door for Julian.
Our thief heads over to this imprisoned man to have a chat.

Julian sways Rickard to our side.
Those two clearly have some history, it would probably be great material for a support conversation.
Hm, maybe someday.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12965.png

This is Rickard, a thief by trade.
He hasn't washed his hands of thievery, still chasing the loot instead.
Fate turned against him when he was captured and imprisoned, but it also favored him since his life was spared.
He could have escaped at any moment, though.
Unless this is another callback to FE1.
I'm not sure if he had a Lockpick on him or not back then.
That aside, Rickard has thief utility.
Opening Doors, chests and bridges without needing a key is always a boon.

He starts with an E Rank in Swords, only being able to use a basic Iron Sword for combat.

Let us observe his bases and growths.
16 HP
4 Str
0 Mag
2 Skill
9 Spd
0 Lck
3 Def
0 Res

His growths.
50% HP
50% Str
0% Mag
30% Skill
50% Spd
40% Lck
10% Def
2% Res

Rickard is basically just a worse version of Julian.
Still, I won't say no to having another thief around.
Some say that he fell in love in another life, only to be cruelly parted from his beloved.
He dedicated himself to the blade after that, swearing to exact vengeance on all.
I hope that his tale won't end in heartbreak this time.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29362.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9947.png

We plan to do this chapter somewhat quickly.
Shiida is going to lure the knight over to her, surviving the initial hit and destroying him on the counter.
Everyone else moves closer to support her.
And now, we wait and see what the enemy phase brings.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22630.png

Shiida survived the attack, taking the knight down with a mighty crit on the counter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6369.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23174.png

Rickard went on ahead, getting his hands on a Small Bullion.
We always welcome the funds.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17668.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3381.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7123.png

Darros traded his Vulnerary to Shiida, who proceeded to consume it after getting some aid from Wendell.
She needed to have more than 14 HP to survive the incoming attack of a nearby mage.
She's still out of range of everything else.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__32722.png

Shiida is ready for the mage to approach.
Her Javelin will finish him off with exact damage, provided that she doesn't miss.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5118.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2036.png

One of the enemy thieves acquired a Seraph Robe.
Shiida managed to defeat the mage who attacked her on her counterattack.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__2005.png

Nabarl went up and smacked Shiida with his Mend staff.
He's still keeping his promise, to never turn a blade of his on a woman.
Staves are another story.
Anyhow, Shiida is back to full health.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27991.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25616.png

We were urged to act quickly, before this corridor turns into the corridor of doom.
As such, we sent Shiida over to destroy one of the knights while Wendell defeated the other one.
There's still some work to do to secure the way...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17947.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22921.png

Wrys and Matthis worked together to take this archer out.
Matthis seemed a little Shaky after getting the kill, really not feeling fit for the battlefield.
Wrys put a hand on his shoulder and comforted him while he wiped the blood off of his legendary blade.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3584.png

I realized that our units would still be at great risk if we don't block the door.
I ended up deciding on this formation for a reason.
Matthis can survive one shot from the archers....Oh...Oh no...
...I made a miscalculation.
But I'll get back to that once I finish my original explanation.
The plan was for the archers to target the units who cannot counter their attacks.
This would cause them to ignore Abel due to his Javelin, instead going for Matthis and Wrys, leaving Abel healthy enough to tank a hit from one of the cavaliers.
This is with the assumption that the thieves on our left won't attack us, instead going for the treasure.
Even so, I shielded Wrys off with Cain just in case.
Of course, this only holds true if the archers move first.

Now, Matthis will fall if both of the Archers target him.
Abel will fall if the cavaliers move first.
I can only hope that things will go well...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4619.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6279.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10348.png

The enemy thieves pilfered an Armorslayer, Killing Edge and Physic.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15650.png

....
I'm sorry, Matthis.
You deserved better.

The silence was deafening when Matthis hit the floor.
He is no more.
Lena screamed in horror while Wrys couldn't avert his gaze from this loss of life.
Abel started to look rather pale, realizing that it could have been his life instead if fate decided so.

Rest in peace, Matthis.
The man who was unwillingly drafted, forced to fight only to switch sides later.
At least his wish came true.

He died as one of the dashing instead of one of the dastardly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26240.png

Wendell clears one of the archers, allowing us to enter the next room.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21975.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8110.png

Shiida defeats the first cavalier, gaining an excellent level for her troubles.
We plan to deal with the second archer shortly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11266.png

My original idea was to chip the archer with Wrys and finish him off with someone else.
Sadly, the remaining cavalier oneshots Wrys.
So we'll have to deal with him first.
Wrys clears the way by cutting this curate down.
He still seems shaken from witnessing the life of Matthis end prematurely...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30000.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3095.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31041.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16536.png

The second cavalier went down without too much trouble.
Cain tried to cheer those around him up with a fancy crit, but it didn't seem to make anyone feel better...
He acquired a Master Key, which will come in handy later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4292.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30108.png

I must have gotten tunnel vision after Matthis died.
There was a better way to go about this.
Marth wounded the archer with a quick stab while Darros took a deep breath.

He lifts the cursed axe, it seemingly pulsing in his grip.
He closes his eyes, bracing himself...
Then, he brings the axe down on the archer's head.

Crunch

Death....
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12080.png

Darros faces death itself once more.
The axe reversed its momentum at the last moment, lodging itself right into his own flesh.
This is...The third time in a row, is it not?
The third time that this accursed axe turned on him.

The enemy archer stands up and laughs.
He won't be dying alone anymore.
He gets to decide if the flying princess falls or the wielder of the cursed axe.
Soon....

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20882.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9918.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13614.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22322.png

Merric, Ogma and Julian ganged up on the nearby thief, quickly subduing him.
We retrieve a Physic staff from the fallen thief.
This will be great for later.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25500.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6064.png

Nabarl heads over to Wendell, giving aid.
He clutches his right arm, witnessing the death of a comrade stirs something within him, but he doesn't allow it to manifest.
He feels an unnatural chill in the air, it unnerves him.
Something bad is going to happen, something that will change the course of history...

The archer gets to choose who to shoot.
The Wounded Devil Saint, Darros.
The Winged sweetheart of Talys, Shiida.
The Hope of the world, Marth.
Or a former Pontifex of Khadein, Wendell.

Time seems to slow to a crawl as the wheels of fate start to turn.
The enemy phase begins...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7533.png

Darros was chosen.
The arrow pierced his already fresh wound, going through him like he wasn't even there.
The Devil Axe falls out of his hand into the puddle starting to form under him.
He has trouble breathing and his vision starts to blur...

Footsteps.
Wrys sprints over to him, trying to keep him conscious.
Marth seems to be frozen in place, a look of guilt in his eyes as he averts his gaze and runs out of the room to fetch our healers.

He returns but a moment later, both Nabarl and Lena in tow.
Nabarl's face darkens at the sight, Darros is...
Darros is beyond saving.
Alas, this is beyond healing...

Still despite knowing better, he rushes to his side, using his Mend staff on his fallen comrade.
Nothing.
Lena joins in, using her own Heal staff to try and prevent it from getting worse.
Nothing.

The Devil Axe is barely visible now, almost being submerged in that which it thirsts for...
Darros tries to stand up, coughing as he leans on Wrys for support.
He cannot see and everything hurts so much.
Yet, his body won't die.

That accursed axe, is this some kind of twisted joke?!
Darros crouches and picks the bloodstained weapon up from the ground.
It's so heavy...

He can't move on until the axe is broken.
He's stuck.

He eventually manages to stand up after Nabarl, Lena and Wrys stop the bleeding.
Lena then warps him back to our camp while Marth sends a signal to Malledus in regards to his situation.

Darros is no longer truly alive.
Just stuck until the Devil Axe finally breaks.

...We must break the Devil Axe before our journey comes to an end.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23679.png

Julian is sent to deal with the archer who took Darros from us.
He'll suffer, slowly.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19423.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24491.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1901.png

Cain and Abel blocked the fleeing thief, acquiring the pilfered Seraph Robe for their troubles.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3042.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23495.png

Nabarl healed Wendell and gained a small level for his work.
Nabarl isn't really focused anymore...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8955.png

Cain awaits the incoming thief for the following turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31908.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9743.png

Merric chips the thief with some quick Fire Magic and gets a very good level for his work.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__31242.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__29457.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14342.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__27704.png

Julian defeated the injured thief with a quick slice of his blade.
He gained a level and reached a D Rank in Swords.
He also retrieved the Armorslayer from the fallen thief.
FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19686.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24513.png

Marth switched places with Julian and ended the murderous archer.
He gained a good level for his work.
Marth was reminded that he has to become more reliable if he wishes to prevent more of his friends from dying...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17006.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23259.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22954.png

Everyone capable of healing went around and helped those in need.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10414.png

We are over halfway done with the map.
There's a mean enemy formation awaiting us in the throne room, but we should perservere.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11840.png

Lena healed Cain offscreen.
Barst waits right over here to attract a knight down below to move.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1758.png

Barst dodged the hit, then doubled on his counter.
The knight did dodge one of the attacks.
We're going to do the same thing this turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15735.png

Barst just kept on dodging those 71% hits.
He gained 1 point of strength for his effort.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8962.png

Merric cooked the knight, bringing a fiery end to his life.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__13900.png

Wendell and Barst both intend to lure an archer up for our other units to finish off.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20701.png

Wrys makes quick work of the archer to our left, taking him down with two quick slices.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25416.png

Barst recieves a helping hand from Nabarl.
He seems to be a little more relaxed now, like he can sense that all tragedies for today have passed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10082.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17398.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25283.png

Ogma and Cain combined the might of their sword and lance to vanquish their foe.
Cain gained a level, though it wasn't too impressive.
More luck means less of a chance for enemy crits, though.
So that's good.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__23344.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__7201.png

Wendell recieved some healing from Lena as he wanders over to us.
We'll be getting into position on our next turn.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8340.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__11159.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14051.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28595.png

Marth and Rickard had a little chat.
Though it was really just Rickard chatting on while Marth stared at him.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22040.png

We'll lure the nearby knight to us with Cain.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__19865.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3960.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5989.png

Merric, Barst and Marth worked together to take this guy down.
Some of you might have noticed that the numbers are inconsistent, good eye.
I accidentally pressed X before confirming my attack with Barst, causing him to attack with his Hand Axe instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__751.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12942.png

Cain recieved the healing he needed from both Lena and Nabarl.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__6253.png

These two are quite troublesome.
Their ranges overlap and no one can really tank them too well.
I'll have to think of something.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__26188.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__9513.png

I took a little while to get ready, but I think that I have a plan now.
Hmmm...We're going to need to use the Warp Staff.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14936.png

Wendell blows the nearby knight away with the power of the mighty Excalibur.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25580.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20603.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__8409.png

Cain and Ogma work together to defeat this archer.
One more enemy needs to go down before safety is near guaranteed.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14281.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__15436.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__28281.png

I originally wanted to warp Wrys, but he would get oneshot by the nearby mage.
That's why Shiida is going instead.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1471.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__12217.png

Shiida and Abel quickly take the trash out.
Just a little more, then we'll be all finished.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14043.png

Now we wait...

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__21747.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__22564.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__3670.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25563.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__5293.png

Wendell killed the remaining mage during the enemy phase.
My patience and energy started to run out, so I just put the boss to rest with Wendell and Shiida.
We got another Master Key, we'll be keeping it in the convoy for now.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24838.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18108.png

Just one more turn of walking before the end.
Abel decided to squeeze some experience out of the last remaining enemy on the map.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__16330.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__30398.png

Rickard and Abel finished him off.
Abel was rewarded with experience, he's now at 99 of it, just one short.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18805.png

Marth seizes the throne, ending this dark chapter.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__4294.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18919.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__18685.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__1341.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14627.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__25585.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20151.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__20677.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__14252.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__24370.pngFIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__10659.png

Marth obtained the Fire Emblem, the namesake of the whole franchise.
What does it do?
It's a glorified lockpick for chests only and it's permanently stuck in Marth's inventory.

At least he can turn to thievery if this "Saving the world" business fails.
I'm sure that Rickard would be willing to give Marth some tips.

FIREEMBLEM11_YFEP01_00__17975.png

And so, the chapter finally ends.
Two deaths after doing well for a while...

Matthis, who fell due to a tactical blunder.
He deserved better...

And Darros, dead, but unable to move on until he's freed from his pact with that accursed axe.
He'll haunt our camp for the foreseeable future.
Or well, I suppose that it's not really haunting if he still has a body.
Hmmm....

And so ends Chapter 6.
That certainly was a ride.
And exhausting, too.

Chapter 7 is next.
We'll have to prepare well if we want to deal with the near infinite reinforcements.
Luckily, time is on our side.

The next update will appear eventually.
I'm still figuring out a good pace for this playthrough.

Oof, RIP Matthis, poor guy fell well before his time. I guess my excitement in seeing him used was misguided...

Shiida defeats the first cavalier, gaining an excellent level for her troubles.
We plan to deal with the second archer shortly.

You are really committed to wiping out that archer now.

My original idea was to chip the archer with Wrys and finish him off with someone else.
Sadly, the remaining cavalier oneshots Wrys.
So we'll have to deal with him first.

Having to change up the plan is worrying...and with him one shotting Wrys you are committed to wiping the cavalier as well now...

I must have gotten tunnel vision after Matthis died.
There was a better way to go about this.
Marth wounded the archer with a quick stab while Darros took a deep breath.

Is all down to the devil axe again...oh boy...

Crunch

Death....

Soon....

...An utter disaster, now all that is left to see if Shiida dies, or he does.

That was a little lucky, as Shiida would be a worse loss. Someone else can take up the cursed axe, but only Shiida can wield the wing spear known as Jagen.

...We must break the Devil Axe before our journey comes to an end.

But who will take up that terrible burden...

Merric chips the thief with some quick Fire Magic and gets a very good level for his work.

Magic on the first levelup...this is a good sign for the young wind lord.

Marth switched places with Julian and ended the murderous archer.
He gained a good level for his work.
Marth was reminded that he has to become more reliable if he wishes to prevent more of his friends from dying...

Now that is a promising level on Marth, and very in character for him to try and take on more responsibility to try and save more lives.

Barst dodged the hit, then doubled on his counter.
The knight did dodge one of the attacks.
We're going to do the same thing this turn.

What a lucky fello-

why do I get the ominous feeling that he will be the next cursed by the Drvil Axe...

Some of you might have noticed that the numbers are inconsistent, good eye.
I accidentally pressed X before confirming my attack with Barst, causing him to attack with his Hand Axe instead.

At least that minor error didn't cost you.

I took a little while to get ready, but I think that I have a plan now.
Hmmm...We're going to need to use the Warp Staff

Oh wow, a warp use already. I guess this means you are going on the offensive.

Shiida and Abel quickly take the trash out.
Just a little more, then we'll be all finished.

I forgot Shiida reached the ranks for a silver lance, but having that available really helped out here.

Seeing that tiny possibility of death looks worrisome...I think she earned one of the "support" bonuses for a small hit bonus from being closer to Marth, and waiting for him to get close enough for that would make it perfectly safe.
