UPDATE: Sadly, I've decided to cancel this project because of all the real-life stuff I have going on at the moment. I'm sorry for any disappointment you may feel and I hope you can at least respect my decision.

Old OP:

Spoiler

Ideas for a potential third Fighters Pass have been on a lot of people’s minds for a while. But unfortunately, Vol. 2 seems to be the end. That’s why I feel like it would be fun to make a thread to decide what would happen if this pass did exist after all. In this thread, I’d like to decide the characters, stages, music, movesets, classic routes and spirits of six new fighters to be added to Smash Ultimate!

Since we don’t have much to cover, this thread will be relatively quick but still have meaningful things to talk about. I think it’ll be a unique thread for the Smash Bros sub-forum. We’ll also have plenty of time to focus on each series/character we add so this will be a pretty in-depth thing. It’ll also be a great opportunity to potentially get to know some series or characters you didn’t know about before.

This is the order of events:

  1. Decide on a character
  2. Create a moveset
  3. Choose some alternate colors
  4. Pick some Mii Costumes
  5. Create a stage
  6. Select music (35 songs max)
  7. Create a Classic Mode Route
  8. Create a Spirit Board

So, you ever want to visualize a proper Vol. 3? If so, or even if you’re just interested in this topic, I urge you to please join this thread! Job #1 will start depending on feedback.

Ah, so rather than just post our individual ideas, we'll be working together to decide everything collectively in this topic? I recommend a two-step decision system:

  1. Tally everyone's suggestions for a particular event. More than one person can suggest the same character or other idea, which counts as an additional point for that idea.
  2. If no particular suggestion gets the most points, we hold a tiebreaker vote. If that still comes out even, we flip a coin or roll a die.

Since deciding on a character is the first step, I'll put my own idea into the pool: Shantae.

Slight correction; people can vote for the same character when voting period happens, but can't submit the same character. Only one character per submission, basically.

Alright;

Job #1: Suggest a character for Challenger Pack #12

This'll be the starting gate for our hypothetical Vol. 3. It can be anyone you want, but I somewhat recommend a character that can get people sold relatively quickly.

How about Phoenix Wright?

- His series started out exclusively on Nintendo systems in 2001 (Japan-only), or 2005 (internationally), and remained exclusive until 2012;

- He's still getting releases, with the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (admittedly, starring a relative) coming to Switch just weeks ago;

- He's not yet represented as a Mii Fighter costume;

- He's the protagonist of an Adventure game / Visual Novel, a gamestyle rather underrepresented in Smash; and

- He's already made a fighting game appearance, in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I'll resubmit Shantae.

  • She started on Game Boy Color, and all of her games so far have released on Nintendo systems.
  • Shantae has plenty of moveset potential, between her hair whip, Fighter's Gear attacks, power kick, and pirate's gear. Her belly dancing would make a great focus for her specials, enabling her to transform, and warp. She can use the Magic Lamp to draw items towards her and absorb energy projectiles.
  • Shantae's got plenty of costume potential too, between her default red bedlah, a blue bedlah, Nega Shantae, her pirate outfit, and various possible color scheme references to other characters.
  • The Shantae series has some excellent music. Choice pieces include Dance Through The Danger, We Love Burning Town, the various Boss fight themes, and Troublesome Trek.
  • Scuttle Town would make for a charming stage, with inhabitants spectating or milling about in the background.

The Prince of All Cosmos (Katamari series)

  • Using a katamari to fight would give a completely unique feel to the character.
  • Who wouldn't want to roll up their opponent as a final smash?
  • The game is unlike anything else currently represented in Smash.
  • The cousins would make for excellent alts.
  • Amazing soundtrack potential due to the quirky, eclectic, award-winning soundtrack.
  • Most recent appearance (Katamari Damacy Reroll, 2018) was on Switch.
  • Oodles of stage potential since it can work on any scale from inside a shop to literally the entire cosmos or anywhere in between.

Alright, we have 4 submissions:

  • Phoenix Wright (Shanty Pete's 1st Mate)
  • Dr. Eggman (me)
  • Shantae (Lord_Brand)
  • Prince of All Cosmos (lenticular)

Please only vote for one, but don't vote for your own submission.

My vote goes to Phoenix Wright.

Dr. Eggman!

Question: How will we decide the later steps? Voting on a single character is one thing, but 8 alts and 20+ moves? I guess we just each submit our own version thereof and vote on who's suggestion is best? Would be kinda neat to be able to piece these things together using ideas from each of us, though. Like, maybe we each submit a Special Move, a pair of costume alts, etc. and then mix it all together? That way, we're working together to build the Fighter Pack rather than just competing to see whose idea is best. Creating the stage will be the tricky part, since that won't have individual "pieces" we can assemble like the rest of the content. But I guess we can just each submit an idea and vote for that one, too? So basically, when there are "pieces" to assemble, we each get to contribute some pieces to the whole, and when there's just one individual thing to decide, like who the featured fighter will be and what their stage will be like, we each submit our own idea and vote on someone else's.

Yea, I'd like to just pick one person's submission for stuff like that for the sake of organization.

I've wanted Shantae for a while, but having her as a Mii Fighter throws cold water on that possibility. So I'll say Dr. Eggman.

Hmm, you make me realize I probably should have suggested Mega Man X or Spyro instead...maybe for Fighter's Pass #13! Anyway, that's two votes for the Doc and one for Phoenix, now.

I want to submit one more candidate is Mike Jones from StarTropics series for the Fighter Pass Vol. 3. We still need more retro video game characters since we didn't have a retro video game newcomer in Ultimate. I hope that I'm not too late on it.

In my Eggman moveset, the Doc pilots his Egg Mobile, outfitted with a multitude of weapons based on those he's used over the years. Some of these are inspired by Brawlfan1's video "What if Eggman was in Smash?", though I also try to mix in some of my own ideas.

Spoiler

Specials

  • N Special: Lock-On Missile - Holding the button produces an aimable laser that locks on to any opponents it touches, firing a homing missile at each target once the button is released.
  • S Special: Drill Eggman - The Egg Mobile transforms into a drill car and charges forward, barging through foes.
  • U Special: Flying Eggman - The Egg Mobile produces a ring of orbiting projectiles that circle around it. In the air, it will also rise upward.
  • D Special: Hammer Ball - The most iconic of all of Eggman's weapons. On the ground, Eggman will sweep it around him, while in the air, he will drop it below him.
  • Final Smash: Death Egg Robot - Eggman's Death Egg Robot from Sonic 2 (or more specifically, the one from Sonic Generations) appears in the background and aims a punch at opponents on the stage. Pretty similar to Giga Bowser.

Ground attacks

  • N attack: Laser - A projectile weapon commonly used by Eggman's creations.
  • Side tilt: Punch - The Egg Mobile fires out a boxing glove, similar to the one used by the Eggwalker in Sonic Adventure 2.
  • Side Smash: Cannon - The Egg Mobile fires an explosive shell out of a cannon, referencing the Egg Bomber Tank in Sonic Advance 2.
  • Up tilt: Upward Flamethrower - The Egg Mobile's releases a jet of fire upward. Based on the Hang Mobile's upward flamethrower attack from Sonic & Knuckles.
  • Up Smash: Rising Rocket - The Egg Mobile fires a rocket upwards, which explodes after a short distance.
  • Down tilt: Laser - A laser shot fired with a lower trajectory.
  • Down Smash: Egg Hammer - The Egg Mobile swings a hammer down behind and in front of Eggman.
  • Dash: Egg Ball Roll - The Egg Mobile rolls like a ball.

Air attacks

  • Neutral air: Laser
  • Forward air: Hammer Eggman - The Egg Mobile swings a hammer vertically in front of it.
  • Back air: Jet Exhaust - Eggman fires the Mobile's jets behind him, scorching foes caught in the flame. This is based on a tendency for the jets of his creations to function as hazards to Sonic.
  • Up air: Drill Eggman II - The Egg Mobile attacks upward with two drills.
  • Down air: Catcher Eggman - An electrified claw that pinches below Eggman.

Grab & throws

  • Grab: Extending Arm - Based on the EGG X's arm weapon.
  • Pummel: Shake
  • Forward throw: Overhead toss
  • Back throw: Over-the-shoulder toss
  • Up throw: Upward toss
  • Down throw: Slam

Taunts

  • U Taunt: Eggman stands on the Mobile, points a thumb at himself, and says "Get a load of this!"
  • S Taunt: Eggman turns to the screen and laughs, based on how he used to do in the Genesis games.
  • D Taunt: Eggman leans forward and says "Snooping as usual, I see!"Additional stuff

When Eggman gets Star KO'd by Sonic, there is a chance he'll scream "I HATE THAT HEDGEHooooog...!" as he flies off into the distance.

  • L Victory: Eggman juggles six of the Chaos Emeralds and says "Try again!", a direct nod to the "bad ending" of the very first game.
  • U Victory: Eggman steeples his fingers and chuckles "All according to plan!"
  • R Victory: Eggman strokes his mustache and asks "What did you expect? I am the Eggman!"

Kirby's Hat: Eggman's glasses, goggles, nose, and 'stache.

We're currently working on a moveset for Dr. Eggman right now.

Can you mind add Mike Jones from StarTropics in the canditial Fighters Pass Vol. 3 list while working on the moveset please since Fighter Passes usually be have more than just 1 DLC Fighter?

Also, I seriously don't think Dr. Eggman quite fit in as a pyshical Fighter due to he usually uses his giant machines to fight in. I was thinking of he might be more like Bowser Jr., but his machines were kinda take alot of room in each stages. (Maybe more bigger than Bowser and Ridley's average size)

That's something we're going to have to vote on once the time comes. When it does, you can submit Mike Jones as your candidate, but even then other users will have to vote on him (and you won't be able to vote for him yourself, the rule is that we have to vote for someone else's submission).

And yes, I think most of us here would design an Eggman moveset using the Egg Mobile or Eggwalker as his means of combat. Feel free to suggest one of your own, since we'll be voting on that next (if anyone else offers a moveset, otherwise mine's going to win by default unless we're waiting for at least two movesets to be submitted).

For me, it's a toss-up between using the Egg Mobile (which is more iconic) or the Egg Walker (which makes more sense as a grounded fighter, and can be outfitted with arms as well as legs to visibly justify having so many weapons and gadgets). I went with the Egg Mobile due to its iconic status, but if anyone here has an idea for an Eggwalker moveset, I'd be interested in seeing it!

So what day should Dr. Eggman's thing gets done so that I can comeback and request Mike Jones when the time is right?

Also, does any of Dr. Eggman's Egg Mobile vehicles quite fit to Bowser's and Ridley's size that be fitable for him to fit fairly in the roster in the Sonic Canon Universe? I know that Sakurai did reduced Ridley's size from the original Metroid on the NES since the previous Super Smash Bros. titles like Brawl and For Wii U did had Ridley become giantic for the Boss Battles.
