Recommended female characters for "War Cleric" ?

Recommended Posts

Characters with brawling boons are obvious candidates. Catherine and Byleth both have excellent offensive stats so should be able to erase most things they reach in this class, especially with Death Blow and Darting Blow. Make sure to use battalions/equipment which optimizes their evasion because Brawl Avo +20 is a powerful skill when stacked on top of their already high speed and the high evasion and the high evasion boosts of Brawling Prowess.

As mentioned in another recent thread, Hilda is an excellent candidate if playing Golden Deer. While this build is more expensive, the idea is to train her in Reason (in addition to Brawling/Faith) to unlock Bolting. With this, she can equip it at the start of player phases to boost the accuracy of anyone she supports, while still having the excellent offenisve potential of War Cleric (she's not as fast as Catherine or as strong as either of the previous suggestions, but still good).

Mages are also interesting choices. Constance leads the pack here with her budding talent but really it works with any of them who are at least Brawling neutral - Dorothea, Lysithea, Mercedes, and Annette. Magic damage is much higher than physical at base (because enemy res is much lower than enemy def), so the idea is that magical brawlers pick up Mag+2 and Fiendish Blow then reach A brawling to unlock Aura Knuckles (craftable using Arcane Crystals, which become storebought in Chapter 16), which will hit incredibly hard. And of course, your mages will still keep half magic uses, giving them some limited ranged offensive options, as well as utility (Dorothea still gets Physic as well as Meteor and can do the same thing as Hilda on non-Deer routes, Lysithea still gets a shot of Warp, Constance still gets 2 shots of Rescue, Mercedes gets Physic/Fortify, Annette can rally I guess). However, I'd probably stick to in-house mages (and Constance, of course) for this, because the build does not come into its own until it reaches A brawling so you want to redirect your training towards that quickly.

The build is best compared with Magic Bow Sniper; the disadvantage is that it's range 1 (while Hunter's Volley is range 2-4) and has slightly lower power. The advantage is that you still maintain magic uses, unlike in Sniper, and in particular that there's no point in the build which is as unpleasant as the time before your magical Sniper unlocks Hunter's Volley.

And while I know you asked about female units, it's also worth mentioning that any male unit who is planning to go to War Master can benefit from going through War Monk first, because Brawl Avo +20 is a great skill. It's definitely worth the small amount of faith training.
