What games are you getting for the holiday season?

Adding any new games to your library through gifts or sales? What are you really looking forward to playing this holiday season?

I'm getting Guardians of the Galaxy, Tales of Arise, and Mass Effect Legendary Edition and I'm pretty thrilled about that. Should cover my gaming needs for a while - certainly until my most anticipated games of 2022 come out (those being Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, Triangle Strategy, and Gotham Knights).

My only planned purchase was the Advance Wars Reboot, but that has since been delayed so...

Honestly, I haven't been following the latest updates on video games and their releases. While there is indeed a huge backlog of games I do want to purchase and play (Mario Odyssey, Famicom Detection Club, and the ~110 Steam Games on my wishlist), I also need to go back properly finish the games I already have (Octopath Traveler, God Eater 2: Rage Burst, Hollow Knight, and many others).

This doesn't even count the games I want to replay for various reasons, so I think I'm set for the holiday season.

I don't have any purchases planned, but I can think of a few games that I might want to get.

Since I enjoyed Super Metroid and Metroid Dread, I thought that I might plug back in my Wii U and buy the Metroid Prime Trilogy for $20. Knowing Nintendo lately, if they do put the Metroid Prime games on Switch, they'll undoubtedly make a small handful of updates and use those to justify selling each game in the trilogy at full price.

Other than that, I can't think of much.

I already took advantage of Gamestop's black friday sale last week to nab some pre owned PS4 games for my collection. Nothing I especially care to brag about, 'cept maybe Metal Wolf Chaos XD. I may make some impulse purchases on the Steam Sale, we'll see. I bought a bunch of games that came out this year, but missing out on Psychonauts 2 feels like a major blindspot that I might want to remedy.

I'm getting Guardians of the Galaxy,

Highly recommended! I had a great time with this one. It was pretty buggy at launch but it's also been patched several times over.

if i'm not getting FFXII, Neo TWEWY, Bravely Default 2 and NieR Replicant now, i'm most likely getting them for christmas (even though i already made myself an early present)

sadly, my passion for manga was revived this year, so i'm focusing my money on that, rather than videogames, and i just can't dedicate my time and money on two very expensive hobbies such as these

I had been waiting for sales for Bravely Default 2 and Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town for a good while now, so looks like I'll finally pick those up. Neo TWEWY is also on sale, but I'll probably just hold off on Neo until I play the first game.

That'll be more than enough to keep me busy until the big releases for next year, not to mention my already-too-big backlog.

I've bought a tonne of games recently, but it's more coincidence than any real holiday treat. Still trying to finish of The Great Ace Attorney, after that I plan on playing No More Heroes 2 and 3, then I need to hit up Shin Megami Tensei V (I'm also interested in getting Shin Megami III Nocturne, but I think I'll do that after V) and also NEO The World Ends With You and I've just (as in like an hour ago) bought the Castlevannia Advanced collection which I'll need to fit in somewhere too. It's actually rather daunting having so many new games to play (I also have an adventure game called Siberia that's been hanging around on my Switch for months now, but it's basically an unknown minor title, so I probably won't get around to it for a long while). Kind of makes me wish I had a longer commute.

None at the moment, as I'm busy retraining after being stood down at work. Besides, I haven't finished Pokemon Shield, I haven't started Final Fantasy 12, and there's also the non-CF routes for FE3H.

The correct question for me would be: "What games did you purchase on "Black Week"?

My answer:

  • A Hat In Time
  • Okami
  • Gurumir (it's a game by Falcom I have never heared of until a few weeks ago)
  • Ori And The Wild Wisps
  • Ori And The Blind Forest

total costs: a bit more than 50 €

Pokemon BDSP, Metroid Dread and Mario Party Superstars even though I already got that last one a few weeks ago. Also got Hades on Steam recently too.

Wish I had an Xbox Series X so I could get Halo Infinite, both of the Judgment games and maybe Tales of Arise as well. I will be glad once the computer chip shortage sorts itself out so maybe there will actually be Xboxs in stock where I live.

Christmas sale is going on rn.

"Ni No Kuni" for Switch is 80% off.

Dang. I have a tonne of games to play already as I mentioned, but that sounds really tempting. What is the verdict on that game anyway? Is it any good as a game or is it just typical Ghibli visual porn?

Actually I have not played this series yet. I only watched a LP a few years ago. Considering it is a Namco Bandai game it offers definitely way less anime / fanservice for having children as protagonists. The enviroment is a mix of daily life and fantasy as far as I can remember. Would play the games in the future, but my backlog list is too long.

By Ghibli visual porn I don't mean anime fanservice. I mean stunning environmental imagery and the like.

When has Ghibli made a game that isn't also a good game?
