So...The Pokemon Arceus Leaks...

So I was really surprised that there's no threads on the Pokemon Arceus leaks, and all the juicy new info that was revealed.

I was wondering if it's just because I was the first one to get around to making the thread, or if we're avoiding talking about it to not get in trouble with Game Freak/Nintendo. Can anyone answer this question for me?

As much as I want to talk about specifics on the new info, I'll refrain for now until I get a definitive answer on if it's okay or not.

To be honest, I knew all about the leaks but didn't feel like making a topic. I didn't really think about getting in trouble with Nintendo tbh, but it should be fine. Gamefaqs and Reddit seems to be discussing it just fine.

Per the forum guidelines:

Quote
  1. Forbidden Content
    1. Requesting or giving links to ROMs and other illegal warez is strictly forbidden. The punishment for doing this is banishment.
      1. This includes PMs, as well as threads.
    2. Do not make topics about inappropriate content such as nude images, pornography, gore, etc. This will most definitely result in a ban. Also, please try to keep discussions PG-13.
    3. Cursing is allowed, sparingly. However, please take care not to curse in topic titles, do it excessively or otherwise abuse the privilege.
    4. Threads created for the purpose of trolling or harassing someone or a group of people (members of these forums or otherwise) by calling them out in a public thread are disallowed.
    5. Threads created for the purpose of discussing banned members or lobbying for their return are disallowed.
    6. Absolutely no plagiarism allowed.
    7. No unauthorized hotlinking.

Notice that discussing leaks isn't included here, so it should be fine. @eclipse, could you please provide confirmation on this?

It's usually good etiquette to spoiler-tag leaks, but a thread explicitly dedicated to them would probably be an exception.

Leaks are totally fine I would say. It's not our fault video game details got accidentally revealed. It's not like we're talking about a country's governmental cybersecurity infrastructure's inner workings, where it compromises something actually important.

I and others have already chatted about the leaked Hisuian forms in a certain FFtF topic. And, I'm pretty sure all the reputable gaming news websites are going to be posting links to the leaks in their headlines too.

Oh, right. The leak. The leak for Pokemon, the leak chosen especially from Legends Arceus, Pokemon's leak. That leak?

Because some of us might be trying to avoid leaks I'll put my brief thoughts in the comments.

Spoiler

I am not as harsh about most of the new mons (barring the fusions, which on reflection I never really talked about the USUM fusions but Dusk Mane actually looks pretty good and even Dawn Wings was decent. I may have given USUM a ton of crap), even some I actually like, but it's a pretty hit or miss situation for a game that's been in development over the last two years and focused on for most of that.

People playing it have been more positive about the gameplay, but graphically speaking this one might top most of the Switch library in terms of issues. There's plenty out there, but I am not sure if I will get asked to withdraw any evidence I've seen.

Okay, so what if I learned what you're getting your friend as a birthday present and ruined the surprise by telling them about it? Would you appreciate that? Especially if it was something you put months if not years of work into?

Pokemon is still Nintendo and Game Freak's intellectual property and thus they have the right to control the rate at which content about it is revealed. It doesn't take something as serious as national cybersecurity to expect a basic level of decency, including respecting a content creator's wishes to reveal their content at the time and in the manner they choose. Leaks like this are disrespectful to the people who worked hard to create the content and planned to reveal it on their own terms.

It's only about a week before official release when it occurred. I'm not saying it should've leaked, but eh, this happens from time to time, don't cry over spilled milk, it isn't the worse possible thing that could happen to a video game and its developers. I very much doubt this would actually affect sales, as I would assume that of the millions of Pokemon fans who exist, only a minority takes notice of leaks at all.

-Although, I do disapprove of any related piracy of new and "living" games, that is theft.
