Shaky Jones
This LP is mostly dedicated to @AnonymousSpeed and @Saint Rubenio. These two funny lads recommended this hack to me on numerous occasion, and it got me interested. From what I've been told, this is an old japanese FE hack of Blazing Sword that serves as a midquel of FE6, starring Lyn's daughter, Saya. If I was a Lyn fan, I'd actually care! But what interests me are the numerous screenshots I've seen, discussions I've heard of it, mostly between the mysterious quickster and bishop Rubenio, and the memes. I saw an image of Vyland. That's literally all I need. I don't care if he's a boss, a playable unit, or just the protagonist's consciousness telling them to invest in crypto! Maybe it's not even him at all, and it's just a funny looking man! I plan to review the hack as I go along, so for those who know nothing about this, you can see this as a review based off first impressions, with a hint of funny gaming. From what I know, about one other LP of this game exists in Serenes, but it was when there wasn't an existing translation. I believe it only came out last year or so, so while the hack itself is old and won't contain any quality of life additions most modern fan games have, it will hopefully provide good gameplay, and a story better than that of the Elibe games. The story part probably won't be tough to accomplish though...Keep in mind, I'm not one who focuses in story too much, so I won't be too analytical there. It's mainly the gameplay I will focus on. Will it be a hack I would recommend others to try for themselves? I've only played The Last Promise and The Four Kings as other FE hacks to possibly compare with, but I'm more likely to compare it to the Elibe games. I hear it mostly tries to replicate the feeling of those games. I'll show screenshots of the plot, but I'll hide important stuff in spoiler tags for those that just want a basic premise of the story to determine if you want to experience it for yaself. If anyone feels like commenting on anything, don't hesitate to. Half of this LP is just to interact with good pals while having a laugh over a game they apparently like. The ironman part is to provide a sense of challenge and hopefully interesting content, as the game doesn't have a difficulty setting and doesn't seem to be too difficult on its own merit. While I don't think FE games necessarily need to be designed around ironman'ing to be good, it will be nice to provide input out there to whether it makes for a good ironman game or not. It's always nice when FE games are fun to play ironman style. But really, this LP will probably be about memes. The main challenge will be how much the Speedwing thief and Holy Mountain Man will influence this run. As I said, it's dedicated to you two. Do whatever you want. I'll probably go ahead with your ideas. You're both based. You don't deserve it, but you get this anyways. Prologue: Time of Departure Spoiler The game starts off with a simple introduction of the kingdoms of Elibe, but of course, Bern decides to mess with everyone, and now factions are in a state of disarray. But for now, we focus on what's happening in Sacae, and I am already happy. It's my man Dayan! I just finished an FE6 rapid rebalance hack done by @AnonymousSpeed where I used him. Cool dude. Glad he's being used as a mentor. Here, he is Saya's tutor/master. For anyone curious about the mod, it's a minor rebalance to FE6 that mostly tries to stay identical to the original, rather than attempting to to balance every unit in the game or change a million aspects of each stage. I playtested it and enjoyed it for the most part, but of course, that will depend on how much you like FE6. If you like the game, but think it could just a little more hit rate, a few changes to armor knights, promotable thieves, the ability to gain weapon ranks much faster, and a Merlinus that can actually fight, I highly recommend it. I believe it's still a work in progress as far as potential updates go, so you can always share your thoughts and make suggestions to them. I'm sure they'd probably appreciate it, or at least tolerate it. https://forums.serenesforest.net/index.php?/topic/95983-anonymousspeeds-rapid-rebalance/ Pretty sure that's a new outfit on Lyn's sprite. Cool. The Lorca tribe was wiped out 20 years ago, but Lyn's efforts allowed it to mostly become restored. I'm assuming this is referring to the events of Blazing Sword. Right now, Sacae is attempting to remain at peace while the other nations turn on each other in support or against Bern. The prologue starts off with the typical training arc of the lord. She clearly wants to become as strong as Lyn and prove herself to everyone, brining honor to the Lorca tribe. Luckily, the standard for that is pretty low, so I think she's got this. Jesus Christ man! It was a level one archer! I'm pretty damn sure Saya woulda been fine! This is just Awakening al over again Glass, you do not want to know how many FE fans love turning little girls into demi god units. Finally, gameplay. And what an amazing first map too. Brings me perfect FE7 memories. In other words, not a great start. There's not much to do here. The boss can reach you when attacking the archer, but this is the first map, so there's no way this kills you. Wow. She really is Lyn 2. She refuses to dodge and is dying already. I should take look at her stats. Well she's twice as tanky as Lyn. Pretty fast too. You could say her strength sucks, but I like to think of it more as a Neimi reference. You know who would be the best assassins to send after the girl guarded by the mighty Dayan? Marty's biggest fan. Why send a guy with 3 strength and zero speed! This is the daughter of Lyn the Chieftain here! Of course she's going to be well protected! Maybe these are just simple brigands who have that title and this wasn't a planned assault, but I'm pretty sure you'd notice the yellow horse on the nomad, meaning you're boned. Oh well. It's just the prologue. I guess I was hoping for an intor more like FE6 or FE5. Those had decent first chapters. Never saw a reason to make the intro a chapter with only the lord. It's probably a Lyn reference here, given how they even bring up that Saya is roughly the same age now as when Lyn fought off the kingdom that poisoned her grandfather, Saya being 16. Without much of an alternative, I use a vulnerary to patch up her wounds. They deal 13 damage together, so I can handle one more turn of tanking. Saya actually gets a lucky dodge here, so I can afford to attack next turn. Saya spills her first blood as she takes the life of an archer with a single slash of her blade. Okay, it was 3 slashes, but it's the murder that counts. Wanting to avenge his best friend's death, Glass strikes at Saya, but it wasn't enough. Saya used DLC items to boost her stats to a point where she can tank the boss's axe, and she retaliated with a merciless cut to Glass's stomach. I was so shocked by her lack of hesitation that I forgot to check his stats. Wow, great start. By the way, I don't have anyone's growths here. I'm unsure if I'll ask for the growths or I'll play ignorant of them the entire time. I'll leave it up to Anon and/or Ruben. Damn. I knew it. She is going to be the bad guy! At least have some hesitation... After asking Saya if she's alright, he gives her the whole speech about how everything is going to get all spooky from here on out, since most enemies have an actual speed stat. She tells him that she's been training for a long time and that she is prepared for her journey. Dayan hesitates but then this pretty cool Jeigan assures him that he is the least likely to die in this ironman, so she'll probably live. I can only assume this is Ruben. Specifically, the arc where he tried to play 3 Houses 3 times, then gave up and realized that all his teehee friends lied to him when they said 3 Houses fixed everything. And here are the enemies of the game, at least for now. The Djutes, aka, the b*****ds who made the Sacae route of FE6 the nightmare that it was. Dayan, please don't say "These guys" again. It sounds very weird coming from you. I'll assume it's a translation thing. And with that done, Saya is allowed to leave on her little journey. More importantly, I can actually have a team to work with. Here's to a funny let's play. I would be pulling out beer right now, but I can't drink yet, and I don't have any of that. So I'll just drink Coca Cola. Cheers. By the way, for anyone curious about the FE12 PMU LP, I don't plan to abandon it entirely, but I really need a break from FE12 right now. It doesn't help that my post that was nearly finished got deleted before I could post it, twice. Also, I've just been consuming a lot of New Mystery content on Youtube anyways. Don't feel like having it take all of my day.
