FE Sword of Heaven and Earth Blind Ironman: The Shaky Special

Recommended Posts

This LP is mostly dedicated to @AnonymousSpeed and @Saint Rubenio. These two funny lads recommended this hack to me on numerous occasion, and it got me interested. From what I've been told, this is an old japanese FE hack of Blazing Sword that serves as a midquel of FE6, starring Lyn's daughter, Saya. If I was a Lyn fan, I'd actually care! But what interests me are the numerous screenshots I've seen, discussions I've heard of it, mostly between the mysterious quickster and bishop Rubenio, and the memes. I saw an image of Vyland. That's literally all I need. I don't care if he's a boss, a playable unit, or just the protagonist's consciousness telling them to invest in crypto! Maybe it's not even him at all, and it's just a funny looking man! I plan to review the hack as I go along, so for those who know nothing about this, you can see this as a review based off first impressions, with a hint of funny gaming. From what I know, about one other LP of this game exists in Serenes, but it was when there wasn't an existing translation. I believe it only came out last year or so, so while the hack itself is old and won't contain any quality of life additions most modern fan games have, it will hopefully provide good gameplay, and a story better than that of the Elibe games. The story part probably won't be tough to accomplish though...Keep in mind, I'm not one who focuses in story too much, so I won't be too analytical there. It's mainly the gameplay I will focus on. Will it be a hack I would recommend others to try for themselves? I've only played The Last Promise and The Four Kings as other FE hacks to possibly compare with, but I'm more likely to compare it to the Elibe games. I hear it mostly tries to replicate the feeling of those games. I'll show screenshots of the plot, but I'll hide important stuff in spoiler tags for those that just want a basic premise of the story to determine if you want to experience it for yaself. If anyone feels like commenting on anything, don't hesitate to. Half of this LP is just to interact with good pals while having a laugh over a game they apparently like.

The ironman part is to provide a sense of challenge and hopefully interesting content, as the game doesn't have a difficulty setting and doesn't seem to be too difficult on its own merit. While I don't think FE games necessarily need to be designed around ironman'ing to be good, it will be nice to provide input out there to whether it makes for a good ironman game or not. It's always nice when FE games are fun to play ironman style. But really, this LP will probably be about memes. The main challenge will be how much the Speedwing thief and Holy Mountain Man will influence this run. As I said, it's dedicated to you two. Do whatever you want. I'll probably go ahead with your ideas. You're both based. You don't deserve it, but you get this anyways.

Prologue: Time of Departure

Spoiler

uo2U6hM.png?1

The game starts off with a simple introduction of the kingdoms of Elibe, but of course, Bern decides to mess with everyone, and now factions are in a state of disarray.

WcPMZzp.png?1

But for now, we focus on what's happening in Sacae, and I am already happy. It's my man Dayan! I just finished an FE6 rapid rebalance hack done by @AnonymousSpeed where I used him. Cool dude. Glad he's being used as a mentor. Here, he is Saya's tutor/master.

For anyone curious about the mod, it's a minor rebalance to FE6 that mostly tries to stay identical to the original, rather than attempting to to balance every unit in the game or change a million aspects of each stage. I playtested it and enjoyed it for the most part, but of course, that will depend on how much you like FE6. If you like the game, but think it could just a little more hit rate, a few changes to armor knights, promotable thieves, the ability to gain weapon ranks much faster, and a Merlinus that can actually fight, I highly recommend it. I believe it's still a work in progress as far as potential updates go, so you can always share your thoughts and make suggestions to them. I'm sure they'd probably appreciate it, or at least tolerate it.

Pretty sure that's a new outfit on Lyn's sprite. Cool.

The Lorca tribe was wiped out 20 years ago, but Lyn's efforts allowed it to mostly become restored. I'm assuming this is referring to the events of Blazing Sword. Right now, Sacae is attempting to remain at peace while the other nations turn on each other in support or against Bern.

xygHudj.png

The prologue starts off with the typical training arc of the lord. She clearly wants to become as strong as Lyn and prove herself to everyone, brining honor to the Lorca tribe. Luckily, the standard for that is pretty low, so I think she's got this.

nNsTHTM.png?1

gsUlF7n.png

Jesus Christ man! It was a level one archer! I'm pretty damn sure Saya woulda been fine! This is just Awakening al over again

9rxIgTk.png

Glass, you do not want to know how many FE fans love turning little girls into demi god units.

D4UfwPJ.png?1

Finally, gameplay. And what an amazing first map too. Brings me perfect FE7 memories. In other words, not a great start.

There's not much to do here. The boss can reach you when attacking the archer, but this is the first map, so there's no way this kills you.

dJKGACU.png

zLc29YL.png

Wow. She really is Lyn 2. She refuses to dodge and is dying already.

I should take look at her stats.

vZshyX9.png

Well she's twice as tanky as Lyn. Pretty fast too. You could say her strength sucks, but I like to think of it more as a Neimi reference.

IwrKuCP.png

You know who would be the best assassins to send after the girl guarded by the mighty Dayan? Marty's biggest fan. Why send a guy with 3 strength and zero speed! This is the daughter of Lyn the Chieftain here! Of course she's going to be well protected! Maybe these are just simple brigands who have that title and this wasn't a planned assault, but I'm pretty sure you'd notice the yellow horse on the nomad, meaning you're boned. Oh well. It's just the prologue. I guess I was hoping for an intor more like FE6 or FE5. Those had decent first chapters. Never saw a reason to make the intro a chapter with only the lord. It's probably a Lyn reference here, given how they even bring up that Saya is roughly the same age now as when Lyn fought off the kingdom that poisoned her grandfather, Saya being 16.

jvbL8Z6.png?1

Without much of an alternative, I use a vulnerary to patch up her wounds. They deal 13 damage together, so I can handle one more turn of tanking.

FqTCnaG.png

Saya actually gets a lucky dodge here, so I can afford to attack next turn.

nGtWqA5.png

Saya spills her first blood as she takes the life of an archer with a single slash of her blade.

Okay, it was 3 slashes, but it's the murder that counts.

IzSXRFg.png

Wanting to avenge his best friend's death, Glass strikes at Saya, but it wasn't enough. Saya used DLC items to boost her stats to a point where she can tank the boss's axe, and she retaliated with a merciless cut to Glass's stomach.

I was so shocked by her lack of hesitation that I forgot to check his stats.

K4Xo0jm.png

Wow, great start.

By the way, I don't have anyone's growths here. I'm unsure if I'll ask for the growths or I'll play ignorant of them the entire time. I'll leave it up to Anon and/or Ruben.

Djt6lyz.png?1

gKGGRGa.png

Damn. I knew it. She is going to be the bad guy!

At least have some hesitation...

EUVKmyb.png

After asking Saya if she's alright, he gives her the whole speech about how everything is going to get all spooky from here on out, since most enemies have an actual speed stat. She tells him that she's been training for a long time and that she is prepared for her journey. Dayan hesitates

4uJIpIF.png

but then this pretty cool Jeigan assures him that he is the least likely to die in this ironman, so she'll probably live.

QDi7V9e.png

I can only assume this is Ruben. Specifically, the arc where he tried to play 3 Houses 3 times, then gave up and realized that all his teehee friends lied to him when they said 3 Houses fixed everything.

5znl95e.png

And here are the enemies of the game, at least for now. The Djutes, aka, the b*****ds who made the Sacae route of FE6 the nightmare that it was.

Dayan, please don't say "These guys" again. It sounds very weird coming from you. I'll assume it's a translation thing.

xFApxld.png

And with that done, Saya is allowed to leave on her little journey. More importantly, I can actually have a team to work with.

Here's to a funny let's play. I would be pulling out beer right now, but I can't drink yet, and I don't have any of that. So I'll just drink Coca Cola. Cheers.

By the way, for anyone curious about the FE12 PMU LP, I don't plan to abandon it entirely, but I really need a break from FE12 right now. It doesn't help that my post that was nearly finished got deleted before I could post it, twice. Also, I've just been consuming a lot of New Mystery content on Youtube anyways. Don't feel like having it take all of my day.

Forgive the bad formatting here, the editor is not very easy to work with, so I can't bring everything up to my desired standard.

Ruben calls it "GBAFE but good", I would more specifically call it "FE7 but good" since I actually like the other two GBA games. It definitely reads and plays like an FE7 sequel against the background of FE6, rather than an parallel story to the latter. Despite that, it does a better job respecting the lore of both games than FE7 did.

It'll also hopefully get you to use more units as you replace the ones that die horrifically in the field of honor. This game has a lot of cool units, like Sergei and Feeler (it's not what you think he's allowed near the school), so a chance to try out more of them should be cool. Who knows? You might end up using a good unit.

Now that oughta be a webcomic.

Yes. A running theme of the game is that it's a better sequel to FE7 than FE6. Which I mean as a diss to 7, not 6. I mean, obviously, one came before the other.

16 hours ago, Shaky Jones said:

Yes, I will fully admit, this is not a great starting map. Thankfully, chapter 1 is a far more solid, FE6-like first map. Which... really begs the question as to why this one exists. And the answer is, so that Saya can start at level 2.

This is the other problem with this first map. Saya is at a serious risk of dying already. Dayan clearly misjudged her strength.

Oh, you like Sacred Stones? That's cool. Unsure how I feel about it. There's a lot of things I love about SS, but it's hard for me to come back to it because of how accustomed I've gotten to difficult FE games, and FE8 enemy positioning and enemy level scaling does seem rather flawed, easy game aside. It might be my favorite of the GBA games, but that's largely bias from it being my first FE game and only one for years, making it the only FE game I have nostalgia for.

I'll hold you to that claim. Then again, it's not too hard to surpass FE7 in respecting lore.

Repopulation. Whoever you ship Lyn with died of exhaustion, but now the tribe is restored.

No one better say they ship Lyn with themselves by disguising it as the tactician. Not today on such a holy time of year.

It's rather pointless. I don't need to be shown that she can fight. Literally everyone can guess that. Just have her start her adventure with her team. Show off that she knows how to fend off enemies while having some control as a leader or maybe she's flawed in aspects and needs the help of the jeigan to become a decent lord or something. Heck, you don't need a reasoning at all. It just feels like a waste of time. I won't let that downgrade the game so far though. It's just a 3 minute prologue after all.

1 hour ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Yeah, if Saya doesn't dodge anything in the first two turns, then there's not much she can do. At turn 3, she would have 3 HP. Given that she takes 13 damage per turn, even a vulnerary wouldn't save her should get get hit twice again. You can't really afford to attack again because you'd be at 3 HP, so you'd just go to a forest tile and assume you'll dodge the boss. While it's improbable to take 6 hits in a row, I think a first map shouldn't revolve around any kind of expected dodges or be slowed to a crawl. Heck, I hated it when FE4 had clear "dodge with this unit" moments like with Shanan and that thief girl. I had to reset 3 times there.

1 hour ago, Saint Rubenio said:

The thing with FE7 and FE8 is that I think they were purposely made to to ease new players into the series, but that doesn't bode well for veterans who want to play/replay the game like with FE6. I'm sure FE6's early game even on normal would be too much for someone to go in as their first game. Not to brag about my faves, but I think Shadow Dragon does a decent job making early games something to ease into on normal mode and easy hard modes, but the maps aren't just super basic, and provide a big challenge on harder difficulties. Although it gets TOO hard sometimes on H5. I really don't like chapter 3 or half of chapter 2, and the first 3 bosses suck. New Mystery has a forced prologue that I actually enjoy as far as puzzle maps go, since I think they subtly hint at how to master FE12 later on with tactics you might not consider at first, but that actually is something you'll mainly notice on higher difficulties. On normal, it essentially just tells you how to press buttons, and Kris does everything by blinking. It's probably just hectic and pointlessly challenging on hard.

I started typing my first impressions of him before your reply, but I do point out that I am saddened to see the Seth approach, since I have respect for the FE6 Marcus design in a Jeigan. But I don't know how hard this game gets, so I don't know how far he'll last in comparison to Titania or FE7 Marcus.

I dunno. It is kinda feeling like FE7 so far, although it does use FE6's soundtrack more often at the moment. I guess it makes sense that there's more FE7 references since that game happened, while FE6 hasn't occurred yet. Gameplay wise, I'm really hoping for more of an FE6 vibe, except with more hit rates.

Chapter 1: Beginning of Turmoil

Spoiler

rNSRLrm.png?1

Time to check up on our village to see if the Djutes and/or Bern are trying anything funny on us. I mean, we're already being attacked, but personally, I don't see the need to be worried. Lyn's there, and she's supposedly at endgame stats from FE7.

p9qE1yG.png

Apparently those battles scarred you for life. What's with your eyes my guy? You need to talk? I won't listen, but you can pretend I am.

1b1mLnY.png

Now I'm not saying that you're a bad guy because of your looks. I mean, that'd just be lookism. But...this IS Fire Emblem...

b8LLXYo.png

Oh come on! He barely survived an attack from the Djutes! Don't go so hard on him for being unattractive to the average FE fan.

giqVGhv.png

So not meeting someone means they're infiltrating your land? Think of all the introverts that just hardly leave their hut! I'd sure hate to be persecuted just because my town hardly sees me!

ZB5G6l2.png

Damn it. He is evil. I guess the stereotype is true after all. Don't blame me when I kill Gonzales.

1fydGTG.png

Saya! You can't say that! Lyn would be ashamed. It has to be against Sacaen honor to curse like that, especially as a bratty child. Just murder them with a cool head. That's much more forgivable.

Now, who are you people!?

SjIwd9p.png?1

A slow and dull Illia knight. Hard, strong, slow.

D rank lances

Dull? That's rude. Why does an armor knight have 18 HP? He ain't no Kevin, that's for sure. I don't see him being particularly interesting. There's gotta be better armor knights later on. Doesn't help that he suffers from Bors syndrome, which I made up just now. The lances hurt him really bad when the early game mainly consists of axe units. With 4 skill, he's rarely going to land hits with a javelin. Oh well.

Y34f2YD.png

A young, well trained, windbag of the knights of Ilia.

E rank swords, D rank lances

Oh wow! 2 skill and 2 luck!? How did you know about my FE12 PMU? It brings back great memories of missing half of my shots.

Skill aside, he seems to be the Sain of the game, and Sain usually ends up pretty good for me. Unsure if he'll be as funny. Design seems simple enough. Nothing to like or dislike imo. But what really got my attention is the other cav.

a0PwxbT.png

A loyal knight of Ilia, despite his appearance, he's a man of honor.

D rank swords, E rank lances

Grape. F**king amazing. That's such an amazing portrait too. I'm getting Anakin flashbacks. First guy's named after a Star Wars dude and now I get a fruit. If he's the Kent, he's already done a better job of being a good counterpart. Look at the difference of speed and strength. While I tend to value strength the most, Grape just seems like a keeper already. I  hope his supports are him trying to take things seriously, but deep down, he already knows it's a hopeless endeavor, and he's just accepted that.

uZuo8vL.png?1

A young Lorca man with a mild mannered nature that acts as a brother to Saya.

D rank bows

Acts as a brrother? Makes me think he's a tad relevant, but then again, Wolt was a close friend of Roy and he's not involve with the plot at all. I might just call him Mr Bloodshot. I can deal with 4 strength. You know, I hope I don't end up feeding kills to a unit, only for the next post to be Ruben telling me they're cringe and OP or boring. I'm not the master of analyzing how based a unit is based off first impressions, unless they're old, or big men. The ladder is pure coincidence.

J7PjSkv.png

Experienced village leader of the old nomadic Lorca's tribe.

A rank swords, A rank bows

I like the way this guy looks. It honestly feels exactly like something you'd see in the real Elibe games. Unless he was a boss and I don't remember. Seriosuly, I just like this design for a Sacaen Jeigan unit. I'm not a fan of the stats though. They feel more FE7 Marcus than FE6. Perhaps that's just the dirty elitist in me, but since I'm always right, I'll just say that they made him a bit too strong. I get being fast since he's a nomad trooper, but why does he have 11 defense? The weapon ranks are nice, but his iron weapons will be more than enough to 1RKO anything for quite a bit. Maybe enemies scale up quickly here.

JwzUjoR.png?1

SwamW7O.png

This reminds me of the first enemy of Genealogy. The prologue was always one of the only things I actually liked about the game. It was well made. Most other units here can't reach anyone, so you don't have many alternatives besides throwing Tsagan out, but that's no fun.

Qe0EL1f.png

So it seems Rostov can survive about 3 hits, while Grape survives 2. If ChoZenOne was playing this, it'd be 20 hits, because the first 17 missed.

pRxEPg6.png?1

Something tells me Yeke and Rostov are going to be great friends. If they're already friends, I'll gaslight them into thinking the other one hates them, then get them back together. This action is usually known as Fire Emblem support grinding.

CgXF4kd.png?1

Saya weakens a bandit, and I see that she dies in 2 hits. It's going to be tough getting her kills without dying, especially with this being an ironman.

Do not defend her by saying she makes for a good dodge tank. I will point, laugh, and dance.

jM1FiCT.png

I have a feeling about Rostov. Something tells me he should be getting the kills here.

OQVACtP.png?1

Sieks, you're up. If only you had swords. A part of me wants to make you a superstar, but don't assume he'll make the cut.

yNTczqe.png

Eyyy! Sieks good.

49g9M2r.png

I end turn 2 with Orange rushing to the enemy's range to gain their attention, as well as give myself a good look on the map. Simple enough. It's not quite FE6 chapter 1 imo, but that could be because the enemies are weaker, and the Jeigan doesn't weaken enemies like FE6. I can't ask a hack to be hard, because for many, FE isn't about being made to drive you insane. Most old hacks didn't have multiple difficulties after all, and this is just the early game. It's decent enough for a first map. I like the enemy positioning quite a bit, and that archer poses a bit of a threat.

7VLLXUO.png

Sure, just deal 6 more total damage than Rostov. That doesn't embarrass them at all.

Grape seems really good. They're like a myrmidon with horse movement, and a funny name.

mvSJzKT.png?1

oL8ZUfF.png

I baited out one of the three fighters and killed them with Saya, but the furthest one just took that unit's place. I want to see if Yeke blinks when the blood from his arrow strikes his face.

9b0uq3m.png

There's no healers yet, but most of your army are equipped with vulneraries. Rustov is the first to prove that he is depraved enough to require them just to get by.

Tsagan buried the chasing archer alive, honorably of course.

zeM8oZl.png?1

Alright! First level up, here we go.

4zcFyoc.png

You are the worst unit in any rom hack.

fohaztd.png

With one of my units already benched, I give the kill to Banana. Seeing him able to 1RKO an archer at base just makes the early game seem biased in his favor. I don't blame the dev.

F3LGSeI.png

Tsagan bumps into a passerby. He forges evidence to claim he is with the enemy and strikes him down for being an independent journalist.

ralTSoI.png?1

Here's a pretty easy setup for a boss kill. In fact, it leaves exactly enough HP for Rostov to kill with.

l2UbAIx.png

But I hate Rostov, so I want a turn to give the kill to someone who deserves it more.

u6qASyM.png

The good thing about enemy steel axes is that their hit rate sucks. The bad thing is that they'll always hit you anyways until you don't need it to miss. It's what Kaga would've wanted.

b8LSenS.png?1

Here's Gara by the way. I love the portrait. It makes me grin. No further comments.

hUMlnho.png

I decide to give the kill to Yeke, given how his speed is worse than Berry's. Yeke could really benefit from doubling enemies.

eB5iL54.png

Hell yeah. Mage killer incoming.

60P5TKg.png

The village is rescued in 6 turns.

This isn't DSFE, so I can't show the turncount per chapter while displaying the seize command, but do I ever lie?

SluQD6s.png?1

ZaUVaM3.png

Are you kidding me? This is postgame Lyn! Wielder of the Sol Katti! I don't care if Lyn is considered a bad unit. There's no way she canonically did a 0% growths run you old fool! Surely, she had what it took to defend herself. Musta had a sleep staff at the ready.

mU1XpWZ.png

Oh shoot! Old man unit time! I wonder what he'll be. A sage? Bishop? Curate? They are a healer, right? Surely, they're a unit that can heal or fight back, right?

9ptGRC7.png

But why though? Dayan hired Ilia mercs to aide you. It's not nesseacry to tell them to leave to sound like a kind person. Just go and do your little mother rescue mission.

RrueKRt.png

Okay. He literally is Sain. Good to know. You're almost redeemed. That good a chuckle outta me.

Wnq8LSy.png

¿Què?

ysN3pJf.png

Oh wow. I get the famous Main Katti.

n1Y3hvB.png

And 5000 moneys!?

I think I also got the Sol Katti or something, but 5000! Yes!

I think Shadow Dragon does a decent job making early games something to ease into on normal mode and easy hard modes, but the maps aren't just super basic, and provide a big challenge on harder difficulties.

Shadow Dragon's first map in the harder difficulties would be pretty great if it didn't have Gazzak's insanely inflated stats or if Jagen didn't get 1% critted by everything. Ah well, swing and a miss. The map itself is good, the higher difficulties were just not very well thought out.

Yeah, good summary. I don't mind the FE12 prologue, though. It gives Wrys a nice head start.

There's another knight that's speedier, but more fragile than Sieks. Then there's a prepromoted general in the lategame.

None of them are all that great, but the general has a truly impressive beard.

As for Yeke... Ehhh in the one run where I used him he turned out pretty great. His eyes alone make him funny, though.

This is a spot-on analysis. The good and the bad. He's only really broken for the first few chapters, really, but he remains powerful through the first half of the game. Tsagan's strength and HP fall behind as the game continues, but he can last the entire game decently fine with some help and a bit of luck. Not quite Seth, but he is a really good unit nonetheless. Honestly, I'm just partial to his design, like you seem to be.

God f**king damn it. Not Feeler. First Ruben, now you? I'm starting to think you two just use this game as a cover up to communicate illegal activities.

Saya: "It's no Conquest gameplay, but I'll probably enjoy this sooner or later".

Dayan: "What the f**k."

Thank you Southern Baptist Convention.

Disgusting. You won't stop at anything to get others to convert to your twisted ideologies!

I'll check it once I get like, 3 bad level ups with a character.

You hate Resident Evil Village? You have multiple houses? 3 Houses?

I'll probably keep bringing it up from time to time. I doubt the translator is still checking up on if people are testing the translations, but maybe I can use these to assist should they want that.

I've never had too much issue with Lyn. It's mainly Eliwood I have awful history with.

I do 2 PMU's and now I'm the PMU man? I wasn't gonna PMU the series! Perhaps I should've done the Thracia capture-less run after all...

I hate to break it to you pal, but it was Anon's idea to have me ironman this. Took a bit of convincing too, but there's only so much I can do to add challenge to a game I've never played. But I appreciate your attempt to plug your 3H ironman streams💀. I won't stop ya.

Yes!

Plug? 100 hours of non-stop grinding?! No one's gonna watch tha-.... Oh wait 💀

Shadow Dragon's first map in the harder difficulties would be pretty great if it didn't have Gazzak's insanely inflated stats or if Jagen didn't get 1% critted by everything. Ah well, swing and a miss. The map itself is good, the higher difficulties were just not very well thought out.

Considering how the number difficulties were made, I seriously doubt that all of them were playtested. I think h5 is really fun, but only once you get past the first 3 chapters. And of course, the bosses are just stupid strong.

SD has good maps. I wish more people appreciated them.

Be thankful that I'm correct enough to have similar opinions. Certainly, a relief after being boo'd in the Teehee forum for your insolent takes on FE, or that Trails game or something, I don't know!

Is this better or worse?

Also, Mr Decoy Octospeed (anon), how would you rank TLP in comparison to FE6? Is it fair for me to like TLP more than FE6? It's just so perfect. All the good parts are nice to see in such an old hack, and the bad parts tend to be hilarious.

I'll try to inform ya about the game's quality as the story progresses. Although, it certainly helps if you're a fan of the Elibe games. Chapter 2: Broken Piece

Spoiler

vqxaauD.png?1

Yes, this is a Fire Emblem early game.

f8pvmrt.png

As long as these aren't literal Fog of War clouds, I'm chilling.

6uv7YrK.png

Another promoted nomad? You'd think she'd be another mentor, but the game states that this is a flashback, and she's close to her equal, another daughter of a chieftain, from a different tribe. She's only one year older, but I guess 20 levels ahead. Then again, it only takes like, 2 or 3 chapters to promote with enough dedication.

xSHNIz0.png

More stronger? Okay, relax. The flashback is only 3 months back, not 13 years.

Wait, this can't be a flashback! The background color hasn't faded to a dull brown!

hmvEtdR.png

Heaven and earth! That's like, almost the title!

There will absolutely be a point where the legendary weapon is picked up, and someone is going to say "The Sword of Heaven and Earth" unironically. I'm not ready for that.

OpGbgJW.png?1

With the flashback done, Malledus the 3rd informs the player of the nomad's name, and their tribe. They're good friends of the Lorca tribe, though not nearly as strong or sadistic in map design as the Djute tribe. Saya hopes that they can meet up at some point, both to see Tsas again and possibly to gain allies in this conflict within Sacae.

7XgF102.png

That depends. Is the dev a simp for Lyn?

6CFjcKg.png

Yeah, how could you? You should've used your convoy to throw books at the enemy.

tTHdU0y.png

It's just a sentence Shaky Jones...She said "get rid of" Shaky Jones...

So the plan was for us to occupy a nearby fort frequently used by Djute tribes that is associated with Bern. However, it's infested with the Bordov Bandits. I don't know if that's a new title or something from the old games, but they're going to die, so it doesn't really matter.

mRdqcxO.png?1

Plenty of enemies trying to stop me on turn 1. I can't reach enough of them to go for a full assault, but Tsagan's 11 defense means I can freely throw in him with no repercussion. Better yet, a bow means he can't accidentally route the enemy to steal my kills. That's one neat part about a nomad Jeigan.

U2Dy644.png

Using a bit of rescue strats, I get Sieks to block the bridge, putting him in range of a merc that he'd actually have the weapon triangle against. Yeke is just in range of the archer, and everyone else waits around the area to help on the next turn.

dy3fL44.png

An axe unit easily could've gone first, but the merc was confident in his 1% crit. I mean, he hits twice. His chance to crit was practically 70%.

NBejsLr.png

Eyyy!

It's the funny!

Ruben, say something funny!

SIKsUiK.png

"Ah shit man. I jus done made a comment bout 3 Houses man. Now everyone's starting a war bout this Edelgard chick and @-ing me man. I shoulda just stayed in someone else's bed and raid some villages again man.

With the brigand bosses done ranting, it's back to my turn.

8pl0c86.png?1

Now this is content.

izV5YDW.png

Wait. I can use the Sol Katti? Already?

rCxFkUp.png

I can! I shouldn't have been surprised though. It was also a personal weapon in FE7, but it often just felt like the S rank sword. Guess this lord's got a lot in her arsenal for early game standards.

But it's not a 1-2 range weapon, so she's bad. Kelik better.

NMTOzsN.png

She finished off the archer that Yeke missed one of his shots on, and gets herself a bit of defense. If I'm lucky, I won't need to give her an angelic robe. It's probably the best course of action in an ironman, but kamikazes are a better alternative than stooping to stat dumping the lord character of all units.

QwUkWLa.png

Tsagan snipes an archer who was blocking Rostov's way. He chips the bandit, and now Yeke can get another level up.

5fKkKjx.png

Given how low his HP is, I'm rather worried about that low luck. Wouldn't want one unlucky hit being the death of a unit I spent dozens of murders on.

qqNXCy2.png

So Arel enters the store, and there really isn't a lot to buy. Honestly, I would've been grateful for a slim lance. It'd help Sieks quite a bit.

I buy a lance for Rostov and head out.

bgdG9CY.png?1

Ohhhh, please tell me this is what I think is!

Y2KZYKC.png?1

A former woodcutter from the village of Uru. He goes into battle to support his parents and sister.

D rank axes

Hell yeah! Woodcutters! The Lot and Wade! The Osian and Halvan! The Bord and Cord! My favorite archetype!

He seems to mainly be inspired by Lot in particular. Certainly not as fast as Cord, but very few can match up to Him. I'll assume he has a great speed growth. I'm glad we get a fighter duo in the early game. Something about that just pleases me. They don't really do that anymore. A shame, really. He doesn't look as cool as Toby, but I like it.

cYJGsTE.png?1

A former carpenter from the village of Uru. A colorful man who likes to flirt with women.

D rank axes

Bahahahaha! No speed?

I love it. This is great. This is my unit. Strong. Hilariously weak in other stats. Aggressive. You'd think I'm a Bord guy, which I am in a way, but Cord will always be supreme. Just look at him. He shines with confidence! 14 con! This is the best portrait so far. It's not my fault that fighters just so happen to always be the coolest characters. This unit is absolutely staying. They will only be undeployed when they're dead, which will not happen.

1j99LcU.png

Finally. An enemy that Tsagan doesn't 1RKO.

zb14Luz.png

UKu2LWo.png

Although I've already reported to Rostov's parents that he died in battle, I don't have many other units who can reach this guy. Another level won't hurt. I don't know how long it is until I get the menu selection screen.

9l82fNe.png?1

This bandit's been a nuisance. He has 6 speed, which is actually enough to avoid getting doubled by just about everyone, so I've been ignoring him to send my army forward. Only Sieks can stop this beast of a man.

efAtBL3.png

4IgyfCU.png

Ya love to see it.

zq5GLEu.png

Before Gim could come up with a plan, Toby rushes headfirst into the enemy squad. Given that they're mere goombas, they're no match against the mighty Toby.

xO2VY5n.png

And he f**king misses. This is where the fun begins.

5NPZs16.png?1

And today, Toby learns a valuable lesson in teamwork. Gim's handaxe came in clutch, which by that I mean that I don't have to move Toby out of the way, which is arguably worse than death.

JYeL0sb.png

Yeke is told to weaken a bandit for Guava, but his piercing eyes cut through the soldier's spirit, and Yeke's eyes proc black luna.

M1So5Lf.png

Well, at least I can take on this bandit without dying on enemy phase.

Except I just noticed his crit. What was I thinking?

aN4M8VV.png?1

I end turn 4 by visiting the village with my worst unit.

Sir, "an spear" is incorrect. You got my hopes up for calling it a spear but it's not a literal spear. Also, you get no maidens.

TUXXDmY.png?1

Oh, there's one.

QoxuxiH.png?1

 ...wait a minute

f0qbcOE.png

Don't tell me this is just...

nPmuuCe.png?1

Oh my f**king God, it is.

4gLS4hS.png

A sister from the Eliime church. A kind hearted girl in search of peace.

E rank staves

Jesus f**king Christ, they didn't even try to make it unique.

This is Lena. I'm not going to comment on any other impressions. This is Lena, but with no warp.

rqh8YPH.png

A war orphan boy. A fledging thief who wants to become a pirate.

D rank swords

You look like PoR Sothe, but I'm still calling you Julian. Also, why are you a thief if you want to be a pirate. Just be a pirate. That's a thing you can be. This man must be on a quest to find a 2nd seal.

8wvzXin.png

I distract myself from the rescued cleric trope by giving Gim a kill. I don't know why this upset me, but it did. I feel disappointed for whatever reason, like I think it was...cringe.

iceA534.png?1

It's turn 6 now, and the boss has found out of the cleric's escape. They send out reinforcements, but the map's practically over already.

AqVmiOa.png

This 2nd half of the map might as well not exist. There's nothing here, and the 3 soldiers occupying it at first just charge east, immediately leaving the area. Shoulda added a few more guys in between the most west top and bottom trees. Probably some cavs to make use of the ridersbane. It's not really hard to catch up with Julian and Lena 2.

I've been using a bit of rescue strats again to get Sieks and Saya caught up with the rest. Tsagan is now Sieks's steed.

8G8recl.png

I can appreicate the design of the throne area for wat it is. You have to be careful how you go about it if you don't want to aggro everyone around. Doing the math, the numbers come out suprisingly exact. Many units can survive sets of enemy attacks by about 1 HP. I like to think that isn't just a coincidence. I just wish there was more to the map at all besides the first two and last two turns, but this is just chapter 2 I suppose. Much better than an FE7 early map stage imo. I guess I'd also call it better than FE6's chapter 2, since I'm not really a fan of all the enemies on the east side with the forts being just you dodging while trying to land shaky hit rates or Diek abusing.

Nl7IyW7.png

It only takes 1 point of strength, and Watermelon would become too strong.

Reminds me of when I played FE1. Jagen's built to set up kills just like this, but he actually got strength for me, so he 1RKO'd so many enemies in the early game. Shoulda used that opportunity to try LTC'ing it for laughs and giggles, but I couldn't be bothered to put effort in FE1. Sorry to the 3 people who love that game.

nfVb4Jq.png?1

1iztFHc.png

Sieks likes to do a bit of gaming.

IVPZYZv.png

No one else could touch the guy since they're a nomad on a forest tile, but Saya has the power of moving the trees at will. The Sacanes refer to it as woodcutting.

Jyyyodu.png?1

After Yeke uses the forest to safely shoot the bandit's right eye, Grape goes in for the kill. I've been using Grape for chip damage quite often, but I want to see him actually level up.

f49KmLB.png

Rostov fans weep. I laugh. Apple sighs as he was hoping to be benched.

4evKuk8.png

This myrmidon has to die to ensure the safety of my army. The mage and archer deal a moderate chunk of damage to Grape, Saya, and Yeke.

5mRkHcg.png?1

But not Sieks. He pierces through the bandits one by one, his dull expression devoid of even the slightest twitch or frown as the blood of his enemies splatter onto his armor.

This man cannot espace bad hit rate kills. This guy just happened to be standing within a forest time. I don't see why the accuracy sucks. You're clearly in the forest with them my guy. Where's the tree between you two? How can I play my Fire Emblem without my realistic gameplay!

vYhD3CK.png

Tangerene 1RKO's now. Something tells me they didn't consider the benefits of a 9 speed cav when compared to Rokov.

2fKcxrZ.png

While it would've been nice to seize the throne this turn, Saya was one tile short of reaching it. I opt to give her the boss kill, since the other units would struggle to reliably hit them, and this guy seems meant to be slain with the newly received Mani Katti.

I missed both hits.

Ah, can't be helped. It can't be easy taking on the mighty Fengar. His stats must pretty high, leading the Bordov Bandits, at least around here.

zu0UlGp.png?1

...Bah!

This boss is horseshit!

HkBHjpY.png?1

I was so happy for this setup. It all worked out perfectly. But alas, God did had other plans, as Sieks had unfortunately missed this pivotal kill.

MoLA6bE.png

For He saw the true hero that was in need to claim him title as the savior of the village ransacked by sinful thieves. Sieks, already strong and bound to his honor-full role as a knight of Ilia, did not need to slay Rengar, for it would lead to gluttony.

G7NeD1A.png

Toby, he was granted his desire, and he took out the bandit who dared harm innocent civilians. Now a hero, the protagonist will be much more considerate when he asks to join her for no good reason.

qMqPq65.png

Hell yeah. Defense. Time for the T-boy the Tank.

OiUeFwx.png
The map was seized on turn 9. Perhaps I'll mark each turn on my shots, but I'm not sure I have any audiences that enjoy turn counts. It's probably for the best if I don't...

d8RZMrz.png?1

Yes, this is a Fire Emblem early game.

JSY53Hm.png

Man you guys look cool...

Oh, um. Sure, feel free to join. For no pay. At all. Just put your lives on the line because you like killing.

uToNr8J.png

Not really.

Also, you guys don't even have a reason to join. You just think it would be safer to bank on the odds that I'll put you on the bench, providing you with free shelter with no work. If I get another thief, and I decide you're not worth keeping around, I'm killing you for content.

And that's it. Next time, we try to find Lyn, and will probably make no progress.

Aw crap.I forgot about Arel's stats. Oh well. Next time.

Gim is the one people use seriously. He's kind of a jack of all trades and master of none. You know, everyone's least favorite kind of unit in FE.

Toby is hilarious.

Berwick Saga uses the terminology correctly. Because Berwick Saga is the best saga.

I did tell you that this map has nice map design. Even if early on it's on the easier side. But then, so is TLP, right?

What I'm saying is, this isn't a great start. But who cares. I'd probably be happier if he managed to reach promotion with 3 speed. It'd be much funnier.

Aw crap.I forgot about Arel's stats. Oh well. Next time.

Arel is interesting. He starts on a wagon, but he can't level up at the start. Instead, he begins levelling around the midgame, under the same conditions as FE7 Merlinus. It's a little weird, perhaps not even intentional, but rather some sort of hacking limitation. But I don't mind, because the convoy being free to deploy while having the ability to move from the start is basically the "best of both worlds" approach to Merlinus. He doesn't need any levels.

I mean, she is rather merciless to Lundgren, but c'mon, it's Lundgren. The man loves being evil. You don't show mercy to a man whose head looks like a half moon. He was born to be a dick.

I highly doubt she's a must have. You have vulneraries. I got away with no Wrys on a practice ironman of FE12's prologue on maniac a while ago when I was bored. This was nowhere around the time of my actual ironman. I didn't even save at all. I just wanted to see how far I could get. The DS battery was what ended the brief run.

At least TLP has a fan made hard mode patch, even if some of the early game chapters are a bit wonky from bad hit rates (Corben needed a few 60 hits to get through, but that's just FE6). I wish this game had one too. These chapters show great potential to really challenge players and provide a great challenge for early game maps, while many actual FE games just throw whatever at the window because it's the early game. I'd also consider nerfing Tsagan's defense. Most jeigans don't even have 10 defense. 11 just seems ridiculous, given how weak the enemies are strength-wise. But who the hell is gonna make a fan made mod of this fan made rom hack?

Who's most people!? I mean, I'm not all that familiar with the rom hacking community, but I rarely hear enough about this one to imagine a community has deemed Rostov as better, which he isn't! How? Even at base, Grape's just better. He literally needs 1 speed point to 1RKO, and still sets up kills near perfectly without it. Rostov doesn't do nearly as much damage, often has lower hit rates, and the slight tank boost isn't all that special. It's not hard to make walls or have Grape only take 2 hits. Sometimes, Rostov just can't do the finishing blow in comparison.

Nikita is a great name.

Chapter 3: Sorry, I missed the title for this one

Spoiler

3bH2LmH.png?1

Why do the bad guys always send weakling after the protagonist anyways? Was chapter 2 really their plan to wipe out the last of the Lorca tribe? A handful of lvl 1 archers and brigands? I guess those guys just happened to be defending the fort and weren't necessarily for Saya, but why have lvl 1 enemies guard a Bern affiliated fort!? And now we're in a stronghold, but the enemies are probably also going to be super weak. The djute are probably going to be given every drug in the world to go from this to FE6 Djute enemies.

Sorry for the rant. I just tend to get annoyed by that in so many games, but I guess it can't be helped.

l0sXYRK.png

Of course it is.

R1Z4z94.png?1

Hoo boy, they got spooky plans for her.

Also, who the hell are you guys? You couldn't look less blatantly evil, unless you had red eyes.

They tell her that she needs to remain alive for now for business purposes. She seemed to notice someone in the back, but then she falls unconscious.

skVRR5O.png

Ahh, that takes me back. Good times, good times.

Don't worry. I'm talking about a video game. I'm clean.

750HWjW.png

I guess you can say that you've been...

slithering in the dark.

F**k you Ruben. This is payback for your awful Sieks pun.

TUtxiWR.png

So the 2 evil Bern people are interrupted because the protagonist, against all odds, beat a squad of inexperienced enemies, which leaves them very disappointed with the chapter's boss to the left. He of course, begs to not have their alliance broken, and he is to kill us here and now. This is just the first half of FE7 in a nutshell.

2w0wzFN.png

So this is just a portion of a portion of Sacae. Makes sense, but I suck at geography, so expect me to make a lot of mistakes. Why even waste time with the weakest division of the Djute? Oh well. Enough ranting. I don't know just how deep this all goes. It's time to play the game.

f9JJQxO.png

Cool. New units who feel obligated to serve us for life because our thief just so happens to open a door. Really, I just do that to compel OCD, but it's nice to be rewarded.

8S2JyKn.png?1

So we're to receive aide for this rescue operation, but we don't have time to wait on them, so we just need to head on without them, but that clearly means they'll show up as units later on. Either they're getting scammed, or our tactician pays them in advance, meaning that they're scamming me of appropriate war funds, even if we're not technically at war yet.

Turn 1:

wlm1djI.png

ZgVWeO0.png

So this map is a stronghold with 2 villages right outside of it. I suppose you split your army to convince them to aide our cause while the rest head inside. That's interesting for a chapter 3. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of FE6 chapter 3.

00ETVif.png?1

Here's the inner half of the stage. We got ourselves 2 prisoners, but I'll worry about them later.

There's a lot of variety when it comes to enemies here, so I reckon that this portion of the Djute tribe doesn't like sticking to a theme. They hate axe users though. That's why they got separate bandits to fight us last time. Why use enemies that Saya's good against after all. If only they brought a ridersbane. Then I'd be screwed.

IE8Q32A.png

Alright Yeke. You're up.

2N3prEk.png

Given the fixed unit placement, the only way to deal any damage to the western set of enemies on turn 1 is through a hand axe strike from Toby. Unfortunately, Gim's the one who starts from it, so if you didn't trade that from the previous map, you have to waste Gim's turn doing just that. Why couldn't you warn me of that Ruben? Now I look like a fool. It's a bit of a shame no one else can get all that close to any enemies. I might've place 1 or 2 enemies around the stairs to give you something to work around when splitting the army, but I'm still chilling.

tr9v9Uz.png

It's not that bad so long as you don't make any enemies in prison.

dg7nssV.png

You asked them for 10,000 gold, didn't you?

kKjR6JP.png

A dark mage and a curate. How ironic for them to share a cell. Shouldn't you be splashing the kid with holy water or something?

I like you, silly bald man. You do not fear death. I like the shading of the wrinkles, and you seem like you'd be good company on a lonely day, like you have wisdom to share.

Turn 2:

3aztjJc.png

After unfortunately letting Rostov take out the soldier, Yeke visits the northern town. He didn't even say anything. The villagers just screamed in terror and threw whatever they could to appease him in hopes that he'll show mercy.

TTHPDhS.png

For those who were hoping he'd get better, I still hate him. I like strength, but that isn't good enough when your competition is a fruit.

Also, I'm extremely biased to cool units, which you're not.

9YWeCTV.png

Given how no enemy believes in Seraph robes, even Saya can easily one round an enemy without a strong weapon.

BKDEKbf.png

Avocado obliterates the enemy myrmidon, showing that either he is extremely fast for a cav, or that the dev really wanted a Lyn mode reference in their fan game.

To ensure Saya's safety, I take out the eastern goomba with Tsagan, putting him in range of mage with 7 total might, meaning I take basically no damage at all. The layout here is really solid though. It's visually pleasing seeing the mage cover the tiles where the enemies were, so moving beyond them is a point of danger, especially since I believe they're what causes other enemies inside the fort to move. I even enjoyed the setup of the 4 enemies surrounding the pillars, even if the myrmidons hardly deal any damage. I guess the main reason I keep bringing up easy enemies when the game isn't required to be hard to be a good game is because of how much potential I see in it. Reminds me of chapter 6 of Shadow Dragon. It's design is really good for an early map, and I just wished I could experience this exact map, but with more of a cost per action. In other words, I'm greedy and want good things for myself. I do think the game naturally could've tried to be a tad harder though. I doubt people who go out of their way to play a romhack are generally inexperienced, especially if you're using a lot of FE6 material. Some numbers are precise. I can see why some units have the strength that they have, but Toby has 3 speed, and a myrmidon can't double him. That's just sad.

16V94tM.png

You know, if I can get this to work, I could pull off something kinda neat.

I missed. No fun in an ironman. Ah well, it's a part of the series.

p8J9dtr.png

I'll just kill the archer with Gim.

I missed. What the hell man.

QmXSsKN.png

I guess I don't have a choice but to only settle for game ending one of the two enemies this turn. What I was gonna do was have Sieks kill the myrmidon, then use the thief I don't care about to steal from the archer (who has a vulnerary), then kill them with Gim. It would've been like, a 7/10 moment for content. Now it's a 4.

9YFh3wP.png

Of course he can't kill in one hit. I have Helga to heal, but this just didn't seem like my turn.

SxnEvHZ.png?1

You piece of SoV.

Turn 3:

7nikd5D.png

Here's an example of a really good set of enemies. This gives off New mystery vibes. The enemies here are actually using steel weapons, so you're in trouble if you don't use units carefully. Ignoring the existence of Tsagan for a moment, I had to be a bit careful here to ensure that no one died. Considering how split your army might be, you don't have everyone to just charge headfirst into the situation. Of course, going right in front of the armor puts you in the distant soldier's range, pulling their squad early. Again, this seems great. I just wished more enemies had steel weapons every now and again. It's not like this turn was super hard or anything, but it's really nice to plan around, there's more than one solution, and you can plan for which one gives you the best kills to feed to your desired units, and let's be real. This is still better than GBAFE designs. IntSys stinky. Realistically, the main thing making this easy is the jeigan, so I guess a no jeigan run could spice up things a bit, but I won't stop using him until I can bench units, unless I actually go all in for good turn counts. He sure helps there, especially as a horse that carries Sieks and Saya. Game design wise, you might throw in horseslayers to keep him in check, but you have 4 cavs, so it'd punish a lot of your army.

G4CApnr.png

It's funny how the Sol Katti is essentially the hard hitter weapon. It weighs you down a lot, so you mainly use it for finishing blows.

8tl8EW0.png

Not again. I've had a Lyn who kept getting defense, but no strength. Don't let her daughter go down this path too!

I mean, it's great for an ironman, but I like strength! Big damage go bam!

I didn't take many more screenshots, but I rescued Saya and moved her down. A shame too, I was praising this turn for being fun to play, yet I basically didn't record how it went. To be fair, it was mostly recue strats and the like. I believe used a vulnerary on Grape, but I'm not too sure. I did this like, 2 days ago from writing this. Got a bit busy and all.

HgJXnDA.png

Apparently, they didn't translate the act of stealing a vulnerary. To be fair, a lot of small things are still in japanese in the unit stat menu, but it's not like I need to be told I stole a vulnerary.

At least I can finally get Gim to kill this damn archer.

I missed. F**k me.

Turn 4:

bV1NW6e.png?1

FINE! I'll kill them with Yuin! It's not like I've been wasting 2 turns for a Gim kill! My God. I hate you, archer #3.

EM3R8ij.png?1

Well Gim's gonna die of xp starvation now. He might as well raid this village.

One thing I do want to mention. The old lady here said to take this recover staff. This is not the recover staff. Why do these villagers keep lying to me!?

I almost want to replay the chapter just to show you that line, but I'm sure Ruben will swoop in and defend this, so why bother?

4Xb0Bec.png

While everyone else proceeds to catch up, I use Grape and Tsagan to rush Sieks to the frontlines. Saya also got shoved ahead from Rostov and Yeke. Like I said, I didn't take a lot of shots for rescue strats, but that's what the past two turns here were mainly about.

The idea is for Sieks to bait out the soldier to get chip xp, and because I get to see him take 0 damage.

cAFNuyv.png

Of course they will. But that's just what I want. The more men you send at me, the stronger Sieks becomes.

c9fHL8p.png?1

Oh right. Our reinforcements. I forgot about those.

You are literally Shanna.

Turn 5:

7A7pF8Y.png

The Ilia's apprentice pegasus knight of the mercenary group. A cheerful and lively girl.

D rank lances

A flier? Ugh. No thanks.

FKH40oN.png?1

The archer of the mercenary group. A calm, organized, and reliable person.

D rank bows

This is Dorothy.

Yhn82lo.png?1

No, this is literally male Dorothy.

Of course I'm gonna use them.

Bhblr0U.png

The swordfighter of the mercenary group. A lively and manly girl.

C rank swords

Hahaha!! Okay. That's funny. Those goofy open mouth smiles always get me. It's like, the one good part about Lilina. It's just so funny looking. I can't hate it. Also, you're a mercenary, so you get points for not being a generic female myrmidon. Not actually sure I'll train you, but I am considering it. You have decent stats. Maybe I'll leave it up to Ruben. How much does he hate happy girls? Then again, the description says manly. Surely that makes them cool in your eyes. I'm sure Anon's indifferent, but maybe he wrote a story about torturing her. Doesn't sound beneath them.

Well, those are the additional Illia mercs hired to aide Saya. Didn't need them, but an extra archer always makes me smile. If there's not too many of them in the game, I might have a team of them all...again.

Y72jNfK.png?1

9BUn2Mw.png

Yeke...what are you doing bud? I like your design. Surely you can repay all the xp I'm giving you with, you know, something BESIDES speed?

Ehh, I'm sure a steel bow can still 1RKO these enemies. I still enjoy your funny eyes, but keep getting no strength and I probably won't do anything about it because of my addiction to bow units. Bows are the best stat after all. I've been saying this for years.

For all the Toby fans, he got the kill from Siek's victim. There was too much gore for me to post the fight.

Turn 6: These turns are going by real fast

f9fZK1y.png?1

Sieks is the reason I'm not showing as much gameplay footage as my PMU's. I can only say he baits out the enemy and takes 0 damage so many times, and it will continue to happen, so forgive the lack of explanation when my units shuffle about between some turns.

Toby had to rescue Rostov because guess what happened?

He missed.

In fact, Yeke was supposed to kill the myrmidon. Sieks and Augustus the 2nd were meant to trap the archer, but you'll never believe how that went!

He f**king missed!

NxNMHDB.png

At least my life isn't dull. Poor Sieks. This does nothing to give him life. He fights to experience any form of adrenaline. Something to give him a reason to feel. He cares not if it's the joy of bringing pride to his country, or the fear of death.

ydzcNcF.png

They call me DonDon.

Turn 7: I'm actually going to punch something

v6btGp8.png?1

.....who do you think got the kill?

oTlSkX8.png

It was Rostov.

That is worse than a Tsagan kill. I am in misery.

At least Toby actually landed this hit.

9qLMnRn.png?1

You remember the dark mage kid and old cleric man? Yeah, you guys didn't remind of them and I almost didn't even open their cell. Took me until now to even bother with their imprisoner. Maybe don't let me down next time, yeah?

Turn 8: Longer turns are finally back, and so are the MISSES

ZhiIyXn.png

PLEASE DON'T MISS

HoJNwmO.png

THANK THE LORD!

It's no speed, but that stat's overrated. I'll prove that with Toby. Single digit endgame speed, let's go.

o4Gxlhk.png

...You had two shots Yeke...

HE WAS 7 FEET IN FRONT OF YOU!

p8uRBxM.png?1

You could've hit at least once! Sieks could've gotten this! He actually got the hit!

47WnOl9.png

While Tsagan could be helping with the boss, or rescue-ing, I need his door key right now. The thief is way too far from this area to open the chests. I'd rather not wait, and Toby has the chest keys.

W5NMo6c.png?1

No kidding. You look old enough to have actually seen most of One Piece. Don't worry. You'll probably reach the end before you die.

Dzc5Uuk.png

An old monk on pilgrimage who has tasted both the sweet and bitter side of life.

D rank staves

Wait. Why is your defense cap higher than 20? I get luck. That's on everyone, but that Def cap is sus, forgive my language.

I can only assume this is the Wrys unit that brings a smile to Ruben's sullen face. I'm happy too.

No offense if your face is actually sullen. Your beard largely makes up for it.

alLUZnA.png

An orphan boy who uses ancient magic and who dreams of becoming an evil mage.

D rank dark tome

Typically, shamans are strong, but slow. I don't see myself using you. Shamans are a bit on the slow side with battle animations anyways. Also, you could be the anti-Christ just waiting to happen.

I'm considering looking up growths just to help analyze a unit overall should I want to inform audiences of them without necessarily using them myself, but that takes effort, which grosses me out.

9On3ZNR.png?1

wSL9ure.png

These reinforcements...aren't doing s**t.

Nice defense by the way. You're making Rostov look worthless.

Turn 9: Only the myrmidon remained

So most of the map has been routed. The southern team has been spending the last 5 turns just running upwards to catch up. The frontliners head to the bosses room while a few stick around for the possible addition of more reinforcements, and I only neede dto kill the myrmidon that Yeke failed to kill this turn. I was going to give it to Sieks, but for laughs and giggles, I went for the Toby kill.

buVN1KE.png?1

These screenshot are hallucinations. I neve replayed this chapter. It happened in a dream. None of this is real. The LP isn't real. Your replies were made up by my mind.

Turn 10:

00FfIyB.png?1

A torch staff?

F**k. This can only mean one thing.

m8tUat6.png

Fritz is rather late to the party, so this won't be his chapter sadly. At the very least, he'll get to be my certified mage killer.

hh6xoES.png

Here's another example of rescue strats. This one is mainly to seize the throne next turn. So I can say Erina actually did something helpful.

UwjdOOZ.png

Okay. last time I bring up rescue strats. It's how I get Sieks and Saya from place to place. It's quite fun to play around. And come on. Don't tell me this isn't amazing. Look at the reinforcements. It's perfect for Sieks. They also deal 0 damage. It's beautiful.

uHKyf4C.png

Well that's a shame. But you know what's awesome.

That battle sprite looks just like Will. It probably is, but that makes me happy. Will's great.

Turn 11:

Zh6NL28.png

Money! But how will you carry all those coins? This isn't a bullion. This isn't a red gem. It's specifically 3000 gold. Toby must be carrying the whole damn chest.

YtQQuQH.png?1

So I had Pineapple rush here to open the door for the thief whose name I forgot to open the chest this turn. It told me to find God.

kpYJdz4.png?1

I appreciate the easy kill. Their light brand probably would've been better FE6 style, where it always does 10.

b05PPDr.png

Bwahaha! What!? Dude, you're worse than most enemies on this chapter! I'd be embarrassed if you were my underling.

fQp29P0.png

As much as I wanted to kill the boss with Fritz, the hit rate was too low, and I didn't want to risk death just for that. This was safer, but probably a mistake. Yeke. Get strength. or at least more speed. I doubt that defense will help you.

q9GwlYe.png

I went through all that effort to seize on turn 11, but...Sieks. There's so many cavs back there. I can't just let ALL of them walk away with their lives because the child soldier sat on a chair. Guess I should've just gone softer on the boss to feed the kill easier, but I really was planning to seize this turn. This was a last minute change. I did it for us Sieks fans.

YexERrw.png?1

And by God, was it worth it! They call him Speedy Stud Sieks.

He's also known as Siexy Sieks, but we don't talk about his other job.

Turn 12:

OS16uKU.png

This would've been great for Gim

If Erina didn't miss! I hate you!

brr8uzN.png

I've wasted enough time here. This map was great. Wish I didn't miss so much, but this was fun. Hope to see more like it. As of right now, I would recommend this, but I can only hope it stays consistent in map design. I just hope it gets a tad harder too. If I wasn't blind here, I coulda saved a couple of turns, even without optimal strats. The thief kept running about from the village, making Gim follow him and giving me less units to fight the later half with. The cell probably could've been opened much earlier, and the turn 5 units honestly could've been the ones to enter those villages, but what can you do? 12 turns isn't bad at all I'd say. Everyone likes that number!

ko22TVq.png?1

And here I was thinking that you were the final boss.

XKENf6z.png

I'm surprised you were so willing to give that information. Maybe he felt betrayed by the Bernians for leaving his lvl 2 army to fight off Sieks's army.

I was hoping for Saya to snap and start beating the s**t outta him for info, and he dies from pain before he could fully reveal the info. Sounds like something you'd see in a Batman Arkham game, except without the killing part.

xYjEH0X.png

Oh?

So apparently, Dayan needs our help back at home, so I can only assume the enemy brought ridersbanes. Saya want to go south where Bern has taken Lyn, but the others believe it's more important to check up on our tribe, and the army could possibly gain supplies there.

1pA2IC5.png

Anyone remember that moment in Blue Lions where the cut content shows that you would've had a route split around where Dimitri wanted to rush to the Imperial capital, while some of the others wanted to return to Fhirdiad, but now it just doesn't matter what you say you want? That's kinda interesting. Not saying I want a choice here. I just wanted to bring that up. It probably would've been great.

ZFR0BSF.png

I'm sure Lyn will be fine. They'll either wait until you're able to rescue her, or wait until you're close enough to watch her die.

Wait! I can't forget Arel again!

R66s6Zu.png?1

The brain of the Lorca tribe. Sometimes he's strict with Saya.

S rank forehead

8 speed is high for a transporter. A shame he doesn't seem to level up for a while at least. Ruben says he's a cool character, so I'm trusting him on that. As far as his performance as a unit, I assume he's a natural pick for the bench, since he can't fight. I don't need the convoy to win maps. I can give Toby 5 iron axes, and I'll be chill.

No seriously, who is that? Is he the Pope of Atheism? I was not aware of that...

"Pope of Atheism" isn't too far off. He's an evolutionary biologist, famously wrote a book called "the God Delusion" which said religion was fake and bad. Some people say he made atheism socially acceptable in western society, but this is complete tosser. His actual mark on the world laying the foundations of Reddit Atheism. Since redditors do not read books, the God Delusion has actually only sold 1 copy, which was to Dinesh D'souza.

Dawkins is mostly known as a prick, even to the atheists I've talked. I do not know what a "humanist award" is, but I assume it's sort of like getting a face tattoo you lack the self-awareness to regret. Dawkin's has his "taken away" (I do not know if there was a trophy or anything or if they just said they took it away while actually denying him nothing) because of a comparison he made between transgender people and trans-racial people.

I imagine the levels are merely abstractions which do not actually exist within the game. Consider that Raigh joins at a higher level than Miledy.

Emmy's great, she's also (spoiler) the daughter of Dorcas, and proved to be even stronger than Grape in my run. Female + good unit = you probably won't use her.

I mean, I did specifically say "people I've seen playing the game", didn't I? I hope I did. It's what I meant to say.

Anyway, yeah, people seem to like Rostov better. I think. Or maybe it was just the one (now abandoned) LP I read years ago, which inspired me to both play this hack and do my own LPs.

Game design wise, you might throw in horseslayers to keep him in check, but you have 4 cavs, so it'd punish a lot of your army.

Tsagan is just a big issue for these earlygame maps. He really should've been nerfed, because as it is, the best thing to do is employ the Seth tactic and just avoid using him much.

But at least he's not a paladin. He can't just wipe everything with 1-2 range mindlessly. That much, I gotta give to him.

Rabi is actually one of my favorite units in the game. For starters, I love that the game hands you a shaman this early on - earlier than any regular mages, even! Rabi is also super strangely built for a shaman. His con is low, but he has great speed. His power is a bit on the lower side, but dark magic's power and his big speed allow him to dish out some immense damage once he begins doubling.

He needs a bit of luck early on to get a good few speed points. If he manages that, he's set to be your best damage dealer. Either that or I've just gotten lucky with him in all of my runs. I'd say give him a shot. If only for the novelty of an earlygame shaman.

I just call myself an atheist because I don't go to church and because I think it's a tad pretentious of humans to believe that the creator of the entire universe, a place so vast that our meager imaginations cannot comprehend its sheer size, is a big man that lives right above us and created us based on himself. You'd think greed, debauchery and power-grubbing like the Christian church has engaged in throughout history would run counter to their teachings. But then, Jesus said "do as I say, not as I do." I imagine the levels are merely abstractions which do not actually exist within the game. Consider that Raigh joins at a higher level than Miledy.

Honestly, Miledy should've had a higher level to justify her role in Bern and to nerf her a bit given her hard mode stats.

I think there should be a slight consideration for stuff like that myself. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's great. It helps for gameplay-story integration, which I like way more than purely a story that tries to excel purely through writing. Of course, I still think Genealogy does a terrible job with that, despite what others may say.

My family consists of Catholics, but I don't share their beliefs to the extent that they do, but I wouldn't consider myself an atheist necessarily, even though I do sometimes have doubts about it all on bad days. I don't go to church either or pray, because I never feel like God really just goes to whichever human that prays and just randomly picks who to bless and who to let suffer from 3rd world problems, but that's quite a major topic. I mainly feel like they would be more neutral to the development of humanity, and doesn't exactly prioritize humans over all else, even if it might go against some of the stories in the Bible. I suppose if God was a divine incomprehensible entity, then it'd be odd for Jesus to just coincidentally be a human to represent God on Earth, but I reckon it could be that God could've chosen anyone/anything, but at that point humans have already become the dominant species. I don't know. Usually, I just tell people I'm indifferent on the matter. I say I'm not religious per se, but I don't think I'm an atheist either. Honestly, I'm still in the middle of figuring myself out with this. Maybe I genuinely need to find God.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure my little vent about religion was also a bit over the line for a few people. I think we can share these opinions as long as it remains moderately respectful.

Besides, calling the church bad is a 3 Houses reference.

That's fair, although I urge you to try the game out at some point. It's practically a sin that you haven't already. It's actually the 12th commandment.

Yeah that's the thing. I know things state it, but I guess I just don't...believe everything? Which then makes me think if that's forbidden. I certainly would be despised saying that at a church. I sure don't believe in the Tower of Babel story. Not saying I'd mock those who do or anything, but I question if it's considered idiocy or maybe heresy to just say you accept certain aspects of a religion and not others, because some might say you may as well not believe in them or just insult them. If this was a game, I could just claim to be neutral and get the blatantly good ending, but that is not the case here.

Chapter 4: Beyond the Darkness

Spoiler

trj5QUX.png?1

Wait, the Kutolah tribe is attacking us? Aren't they, like, the good guys or something? Aren't most of the playable Saceans in the Elibe games from there? I guess the lore was that they became allied with the Lorca tribe at some point when Bern was invading Sacae, which I guess is right now. Maybe that's what's gonna happen? I shouldn't speak too quickly though. I could be misunderstanding this all, or maybe the translation is wonky.

vt6Hadv.png?3

Yep. Darkness. Without it, you just can't say it's FE, right?

Why do fan games still include things nobody likes? Just let me have a game without them.

rfvdGSU.png

Arel assures Saya that Dayan will be fine, as have aide of the Kutolah tribes and the Ilia mercs. If the tribe is completely destroyed when we get back, I am going to consider letting out a sigh of disappointment, but won't actually do it, because audible fake sighing or typing the act of it is cringe.

Also, I did speak out of turn. The beginning text really did imply that Kutolah was the enemy or something, or maybe it wasn't? I just have to ask, was it a mistranslation or does "danger of" mean the thing is in danger. I genuinely do not know. I was so confused. Why would it say the Kutolah tribe is in danger though? The prime focus here is the Lorca tribe. The other one is simply an ally.

Looks like they forgot a T. Either that or she's 7, which wouldn't be beyond Fire Emblem at this point.

So this girl has apparently been with us at some point between chapter 3 and 4 as Saya was making her way back. Her home is currently being occupied by brigands, because brigands like to bully orphans. Since we're mostly nearby that village, we might as well give it a visit for free xp.

Arel, actually being smart, warns Saya that this can possibly be a trap, given that some groups have been known to use children as traps. Saya, being the boring protagonist, tells Arel that he's being cringe and to give her a chance. I'm not saying I would've immediately left her to fend herself, but what's wrong with some caution?

b47AiNM.png?1

Oh, but after Tsagan's quick little reconnaissance, he notices that the town is surprisingly empty, and that he saw shadows lurking about, as if we're about to enter a 4th chapter, so I guess we have to praise the brat mage for telling the truth and apologize. Except we don't! If we already sent him to investigate, her little info was worthless. Really, it just means that we went ahead and took caution after all, which is what Arel wanted. Arel didn't say "Screw the kid, leave them to rot!", although that would admittedly have been based. He just got confirmation that this is safe intel, so we can proceed as planned.

1pPuz73.png?1

To Hell with you!

Turn 1: Darkness

7xHCIKa.png?1

And then Otto said "Let there be light".

kMzH9z7.png

We got ourselves some spread out enemies here. I like it. Would've preferred if it just wasn't dark at all, but with the torch staff ready and at 10 uses, I'll usually have enough vision to see what's ahead throughout the map. Stage layout is decent too. Got the villages, the upper and southern paths for optional methods on getting through enemy lines, decent variety of enemies across the map. Some of them even use steel weapons to actually threaten my units, but they don't spam effective weapons you can't see like that b*****d from chapter 9 of fe6 with a halberd. F**k you. Every time man....Congrats. You made a FoW map not complete s**t.

ZwjcJdS.png

It just dawned on me that I was never given flux tome. That's odd. Usually you're given a weapon for a unit. You don't just have to buy their first weapon for them to be useable. Like, you'd think there'd be one in a chapter 3 chest or maybe on a nearby enemy here. Maybe the piece of human garbage is carrying a dark tome to see if she could use it. I'm not complaining really. It's just...weird. Is it just me? It feels unnatural.

Also, why is a general store selling satanic tomes?

Speaking of human garbage:

v7rDTY0.png?1

A girl who wants to be a great wizard. Good-hearted who hates to lose.

D rank anima

You are a child. And a brat. The worst kind of character. Since you're not an important character, I seriously doubt you're going to have some redemption arc like Sanaki. You're just the game's Delthea. If that's your thing, then by all means use the tiny magic girl to your heart's content, but I already have enough things going for me to get in a watchlist. How dare you insult Arel? And then she pisses me off even more in the end of the chapter. Such a predictable "look at the kid who deserves to be pitied but also praised" unit. Despicable!

PEnRNA7.png?1

Shanna the 2nd flies to the village to ensure that it doesn't get destroyed on turn 2. I don't know how long it takes, but I'm not taking any risks. I could've had her use a jav to bait both the soldier and mage, but I'd prefer the soldier to head west, and I'd probably just miss anyways.

Turn 2: You can skip the turn 1 arc

4Gw7DpH.png?1

Toby time

lpuv1ag.png?1

Aw sweet. The Ruben Repellent.

I don't know if I'll use this. Luck is nice when a crit is fatal in an ironman, but it does sell for a lot of gold. And I love money.

WGl51wx.png

Shaky Jones! How could you waste a bandit on Tsagan? You might as well throw Saya into a 3 Houses maddening map with ambush spawns, cuz your run is dun.

You want to know what happened?

1AWSSmA.png

Rostov. You've landed that jav hit like, once, ever.

0Kn8QHJ.png

After more torching, I can see the lower enemy positioning.

You can't see too much here, But Yeke and Tsagan are just in range of the northern mage, while Fritz in rang of the fighter, who has a hand axe. Sieks is in range of the merc and soldier. Frequent rescue strats were used on turn one to get Sieks and Otto this far ahead on turn 2, given how they start on the back of the map on turn 1. Good turn. Pretty fun and I got to plan a lot. I really enjoy the spread out here, as I said before, and the enemies have gotten a bit stronger than from chapter 3, so people who aren't Sieks and Tsagan do need to be somewhat careful when approaching the enemy.

3roSb2H.png

Look at this dude.

The knockback from Sieks's armor made him iron deficient.

Turn 3: Why is This FoW Map so Fun?

TbXhce1.png

3 speed isn't a problem at all. Look, he's not getting doubled. He kills. That's all you can ask of someone.

mpOqXGd.png?1

Okay. So I might have put Toby's life on the line, but would you rather I wait for them to come to me? That'd be out of Toby's character, and would ruin immersion. I'm doing myself and the game a favor.

I like how this actually rewards you for aggressive plays. With the right moves, you can remove enough obstacles for them to not target one unit on enemy phase, but it takes planning and emphasizes your positioning. Enemy positioning is by far the best part of this game, and I love it for that. So far, I'd say FE12 and FE6 are games that use it the best in the mainline games, although FE6 does have a few crappy moments, mainly in the Sacae route. Fe11 has some great positioning too, but I'm not the biggest fan of how many enemies are just horses and armors, so that's a bit of a downside. All of these are generally games considered to be great player phase focused games I believe. I'm comparing these to this because I love those fe games, and I want to praise SoHaE after being a bit mean to it lately. Really, if this game just had stronger enemies and a weaker Jeigan, it'd be an S tier FE game. Great maps. For those who love the parts of the games I just mentioned, but aren't actually masochists who want a crazy challenge, this is your FE hack to play, especially if you like Elibe.

GccDWJn.png

The boys stick together.

StCUICw.png

Fritz's skill is rather poor, but this just makes him a true FE6 reference.

iduajWY.png

One crit? I suppose Emmy does have bad luck. Do I really need to waste a goddess icon on her? If she gets crit'd, then that's God's way of telling me she is hiding sins beneath that smile.

8WoygKP.png

You know what? Why not? Maybe he'll be a busted thief. It's happened before. Ruben said he was strong for him, and he never lies or exaggerates a unit's strength.

 hIZyA9Q.png

Welp. You screwed it. You're benched. Helga's benched too. You ruined it for her. I'm not going down this path again.

m514AQM.png?1

Breaking the tree log thing, my mounts head northeast to clear out the enemies that might try to ambush my southern units later on. Maybe it would've been better to have them swapped, but my mounts broke the log quicker, and I may as well use the horses where they are now.

MKRIgIT.png

An energy drop would be great on Yeke. Maybe an angelic robe? He tends to need vulneraries, as he can easily get 2RKO'd. Still debating on if he's going to stick around for endgame or not.

Turn 4: Holy Stat Growth!

Gd6mkDQ.png?1

An axe man with 100 hit. Ya love to see it.

7z9BVbj.png

It's always the Lot unit. I always get the best. Axe units just never let me down! I am the Cord Connoisseur. This title actually applies to all units in a similar archetype. Love em all. Of course, Toby is still great, but we already have the Bord apologist.

jQqakvX.png

What the f**k?

I tend to take screenshots of every level up in my LPs, but I make an exception for healers. I don't think they matter much, since they're just meant to heal units in the background of my 500 IQ plays, but of course, Wrys's successor does not let me down.

rkHXXo2.png

Can you imagine if that missed? It's be such good content! I wouldn't even be mad. It did hit, but somehow, I had doubts it would. Perhaps I suffer from RNG trauma.

wt1i9HB.png

Well there's only one real choice here.

I bought several hand exes, an iron axe, and a javelin. I also got a slim lance should Sieks ever need a bit of extra hit, although I could've just given him blue hair peg girl's slim lance. Oh well. Some people think Fiona is better than Meg, so I'm not the most foolish person here.

dYnow0b.png

Okay. These two units apparently know how to kick my a**. They both wield steel weapons and would kill me if I approached one tile closer. Thank goodness for the torch staff.

As you can see below, I let Sieks be the man who baits out the merc.

DyaOIKk.png

And the dude got a 1% crit on him. Forget Oswin. Sieks is a madlad.

aVjg95u.png?1

Tsagan may have gotten a few kills from being in the frontlines, but I wanted to make sure I reached this village on time. Wouldn't want to miss a protentional stat booster.

YurI6xs.png

There were no survivors that night.

NDzxPxX.png

As of right now, I don't actually know if I will use Rabi or not. Maybe? I guess I can give them a kill or two here.

This felt a bit risky, as I think Eggplant wasn't at full HP here, and Rabi could technically miss a hit here and get hit by a fighter in the dark. I was mostly confident Pear would live, but there was no guarantee and I didn't want to wait. As for the south, many head east, but a bit of caution was used on Saya in case. The only enemy I could see was one armor enemy.

 IXtwJiR.png

Oi! You can't just use his one weakness! Heat. It reminds him of his troubled childhood in his home where the thermostat didn't work.

Turn 6: I Need To Emphasize The Brilliant Enemy Positioning Again, Is It Just Me?

ccOGAY0.png?1

QyYlzAp.png

With more steel weapon enemies and magic users lying around the eastern half of the stage, I've suddenly had to start actually thinking about how to make sure a unit doesn't die. I like it. It gets progressively harder, and appropriately so.

lZedycG.png

This is the last time I will bring this up this chapter I promise. I love the enemy layout here. I think it's a super underrated aspect in FE when discussing gameplay. It's the main reason I'm not a fan of FE4. Too much of the same layout of mashed up enemies in one big conga line. Here, they're spread out, but not randomly so like Sacred Stones. I have to actually think about how to approach the turn, but given how the enemies aren't FE12 lunatic or anything, I'd still say it works for newer players, and could be a recommend form of challenge for most FE players. Rescue strats help quite a bit if you wish to kill with weak units. The attack ranges align quite well. As I said, even the map itself works around it, and the torch staff really helps show JUST enough to show you most of the threat of each turn. This is my favorite map so far, and I'm really having fun. If it keep up like this, I'll 100% be promoting this hack by the end of the LP.

6Oh1OXz.png

This is my cup of tea.

OTSGpPE.png

Fritzs is going to be as good as Dorothy, I can feel it. Whether you think that's a compliment or an insult, I leave to you.

6GOXhxe.png

He missed. Toby time it is.

CJcCNvL.png

Crap. No strength?

yEpL2ra.png

Again, Cabbage is attacked by 2 enemies. One is a jav user. He barely survives these 2 attacks, but the fact that he survives at all makes Rostov worthless.

Turn 7: Hey, I'm Near The End

pSqiFtr.png?1

Okay. Now, Fritz can show why I paid his merc team 2 Cordcoins.

3cU4R9O.png

Speed is speed.

IO82N9i.png

Seeing such degenerates raid a village of innocent civilians at the dead of night, Yeke decided that now is the best time to test out the nuclear arrow.

hDnf1DZ.png

Oh. is that female Navarre?

XMuhxkN.png

Nevermind. It's just Navarre. Sorry. I'm going to get canceled now.

PHQwJbq.png

Then why are you hanging out with a mercenary? If you're siblings, then you probably should've gotten used to it by now. If you're lovers, I recommend rushing to S support, then giving me your child soldier, because this clearly won't work out between you two.

1a8K17l.png

So they are siblings. Disregard the child unit comment. I was joking.

So according to these badmouthed thieves, they captured this dude's sister, and now he's willing to work with them for no pay for them to release her. They don't seem to even be abusing her or anything. Heck, they even promised to let her go. Surely, nothing will go horribly wrong.

Turn 8: Wait, No

jqdKITS.png?1

Oh crap. They appeared outta nowhere. Guess they knew I was nearby. I'm unsure whether their spawn is turn based or proximity based. I asked and Ruben assumes its turn based, but it's hard to tell with a romhack. If anyone knows the actual answer, I'd appreciate it.

yNtlaDQ.png

Well, you don't seem that strong. These are the stats I was sort of expecting on the generic chapter 3 myrmidons, except with a bit less defense.

What annoys me is their killing edge. I get it. You're the edgy myrmidon. But do you really need to be an enemy with a random chance to kill my units? Does the game want me to run or just hope you don't crit? Never been a fan of that. They're probably recruitable, so I don't think I can just kill them. My guess is that you need to seize the map, then she'll join, knowing that his sister is safe now, similar to Ayra. I like that idea. Working around a sudden threat near the throne with some backup. It's just the critical part that sucks, given that only 2 units can reliably survive, and I made the mistake of sending Tsagan in the back to take out reinforcement bandits from the back.

9Yfk5Bn.png

yTcz4WF.png

Well s**t.

mJT8Pay.png

This soldier was a bit tanky, so only Saya with the Sol Katti could 1RKO them.

igRP5Pb.png

Rescue drop strats with my mounts were utilized to keep any of my units from being in Pascal's range. I had to be pretty careful with how I positioned myself, as to make sure I don't get cornered at some point. Kumquat blocks off the top brigand from starting a fight with my mages, as they might already be in trouble from the western ones approaching. In a way, I was getting cornered. I had to rush Tsagan and Toby back here to help out with the mess. Gim and Tsagan helped out with rescue drops for both Emmy and Otto. It was a bit complicated, but kinda fun.

CCoRlti.png

Eat your fruits and you'll grow up strong. Eat big and you'll grow big. Eat nothing and you'll grow up like me.

Hv8PNLe.png

Whoops. Bad cropping. Oh well, I'm not redoing it. It shrunk because the rest of the screen became red from his dying HP.

wQpSqHc.png?1

Pascal's got nothing on the Sheild of Ilia.

O0upObt.png

Oh. They're actually just letting her go? What kind bandits. It's nice to see some rogues have a bit of heart. Brigand's honor and the like.

B6h9Ia0.png

Or not. They didn't immediately send someone after her, but I'm assuming this is implication that he's planning on spying on her or something. Either way, it seems like she left, so no point in worrying about them now.

Turn 9: This One Was Actually Pretty Scary.

mzhZvw7.png?1

A surprise mage almost killed Sieks. I hate it when surprise mages attack you in the middle of the night.

I throw Helga in to heal him and used Rostov to get her the hell away from sword man.

Qy9KEgE.png

Fritz saves Persimmon's life by clearing out the archer infestation of 1 archer.

The cav finishes off the brigand and is alive for now.

Unfortunately, I think my fear was right, and the remaining turn 9 screenshots weren't saved. It's mostly on me, but I was almost certain that I saved them. It's nothing I can't explain though. The mages deal with the west bandit, and Rabi was placed in the mountain tile. While I don't like dodge strats, he was stuck in a pickle. I knew that there's another brgand enemy in the dark to the left, and the fighter to the right can barely reach the mountain with a hand axe. I could stand one tile to the left of it, but then I risk dying if I missed the first flux hit, so I decide that the mountain is the safest, especially since Ai might let the west brigand go for Liane anyways.

That's exactly what happened. It's literally 1 of 2 times where she fights.

kCdjtpP.png?1

Well you can see Rabi in the mountain tile here, but I was referring more to the process of fighting, moving of Liane, and other trade strats I actually wanted to show this turn. Tsagan, while he could've gone for the boss this turn, killed the mage, as Saya was one space away from seizing the throne. I was hoping to seize on turn 9, but moving Saya closer on turn 8 would've put her at risk of a crit, so I have to be patient. Here, Pascal can only target Tsagan and Sieks, while the fighter can target many allies. I was a bit proud with the setup having Saya rescue-dropped from my other units who had to clear out enemies in a way that still left her space to be dropped in, and close enough to the throne while guards shielded her. Just one more turn, and I can say I did a challenging map flawlessly!

bP4odbb.png

What...

Turn 10: You've Gotta Be Kidding Me

4VDPQPj.png?1

Are you serious? You DO have to recruit Pascal by talking to them? With a unit who joins two turns later? At the bottom of the map!?

Well now you've just ruined the map design for this last bit! Ignore what I said earlier about the who sezie without killing Pascal thing. The game just wanted you to turtle for 2 turns then possibly wait longer for her to catch up. If I had known this is how it'd go down. I'd have placed Caeda with no wing spear to where she was to rescue drop her. This is not good recruitment design imo, especially if this was zone based. It'd be forcing you to wait and retreat, and it's not so obvious to blind players that they'll just show up like that. I genuinely thought they just left the stage. Did you really need to convey that little plotline through several turns? If it's turn based, then I guess it's on me for not being slow, but then that's a tad ridiculous. If I was optimal, I could've had Tsagan kill the boss by rushing north before Pascal ever showed up. What would've happened then? Or what if I did have Saya seize on turn 9? Would I have just missed Risette too? It ruins the pacing of the stage that I thought the stage was doing so well on.

She doesn't even want to look at me. You're just mocking me. I don't need you anyways. I have Otto. Admittedly, I probably would use you over Helga, but Otto ain't dying anytime soon pal. I hate you. You crushed my dreams of a perfect Fog map.

Stats might be alright for a healer, but with 2 already on my team, I don't even see why the game gives you a 3rd so early on.

i8nhSI7.png

I need an archer kill to cheer myself up.

KDlZBIz.png

You know what? Screw it.

4Xa8tG2.png

Congrats Tsagan. You're still broken. RIP to Bodrov.

NI6hdzh.png

You have died as you lived. No damsels.

kaIljJ2.png

That's right. I'm not going to bother. As much as I want my first run to be one where everyone is recruited, I do not respect you enough to bother. I am not retreating for 2 to 3 more turns and make the past 2 ones all for nothing. You're literally Navarre. Besides, shouldn't killing the boss end your service? You can naturally see your sister being safe with us. She's a blue unit. Realistically, this should still end with you joining us, right? No! Of course not! Why would it end that way!?

dgTsNU2.png

I disrespect the recruitable by stabbing them with Sieks for minimal xp gains before leaving. They land 2 criticals in a row. Couldn't kill.

OR97kPl.png

Great. Now Sieks has contracted Pascalitus. It's when your growths get lowered from the result of fighting a s**t unit. Just make the last turn bring me back to saltiness, why don't you.

KO2uuTI.png?1

Excuse me!?

This brat fought two times! Neither killed! It didn't even help! Your advice meant nothing because Tsagan already told us of the enemy fort here! Stop putting her on a pedestal just because she's the silly young mage girl! How's that gonna teach her to have respect or anything? Just be correct one time and you can call everyone crappy and be full of yourself! Goddamn Delthea clone!

vMIWQDb.png?1

Oh Hell no! Arel, you did nothing wrong. You are just trying to protect Saya in trying times! Lyn's gone, Dayan's in trouble, brigands and Bern are invading Sacae, of course you're suspicious. And what do you think she does? She gloats about being right! Justice for Arel. New Jeresy for Liane.

S3aMQR1.png

qKuZ7j4.png

This dialogue doesn't even make sense. So now that your old boss is dead, you just follow a new one? Don't you want to protect her this time or something? She offers to join, and the dialogue does not imply that he rejected the idea, nor does she even bring up meeting us (which I guess makes sense in a way because we didn't talk but she was a blue unit so gameplay wise she was following our orders), but she still ends up being on my team when the next map starts. He just leaves I guess. If the two meet here, why doesn't it do whatever the game would've done if they met on the battle, and have him join me? It just really wanted me to do the healer talk thing? This chapter, while really fun, has the worst storytelling so far. It almost feels entirely like a bad trope or something. As if I had to play and see everything in one specific way.

PmIHzzf.png

Lord Theseus. What a name. Maybe he's the final boss and the 2nd phase will be called Lord Antitheseus.

zIW9Tp1.png

Why does everyone always ally with evil cult people? At least, I'm guessing that's what the Ninaz are. Can an FE villain try to do something without convincing themselves that working with literal Satanists is a good idea?

AHhM9yw.png

You're weird for saying weird guys in 998.

oKnXS0d.png

Oh? Didn't think I'd get one so soon. From what I've been told, there's a few in the game, but none have any requirements, so they're all just separate chapters that are purely optional.

This was a great map, but not an amazing chapter imo. I started out grumpy, got really happy afterwards, only to be grumpy again. I'm still enjoying this game quite a bit so far though. The anger is somewhat exaggerated for...well I just sound rude all the time.

Okay, I completely get the lovecraftian thing. I still think that God is something that is just too complex for us, despite many religions claiming that we were made in the shape/form of God themselves. I guess God is often referred to as a he, but I never say it by gender, because I feel like a divine creator simply cannot be compared to a mortal. Maybe this means I'm not religious or something, but I often only see myself believing in about half of Catholicism.

It's an incredibly complicated matter, yes. I suppose it's not exactly right of me to say that I'm an atheist, because this is far closer to my feelings on the matter than an arrogant belief that I know better than anyone and can say for sure that there is no God. That's the whole point. I can't say anything for sure. I'm just some guy.

1 hour ago, Shaky Jones said:

Don't worry about it. I'm sure my little vent about religion was also a bit over the line for a few people. I think we can share these opinions as long as it remains moderately respectful.

Very good analysis. I wish I could put my thoughts on FE maps into words so well.

Yeah, I'll admit, it's not great. I'm only just now realizing it, too. Never been an issue for me, but then, I've played this game for a long time.

I have arisen from the abyss to confirm that there were people who thought that Rostov was better than Grape, and that I was one of them. can't speak for anyone else who may have held that opinion, but in my case it was just a hefty dose of personal experience bias + a preexisting preference for the "strong" cavalier over the "fast" one. and in any case I also thought Tsagan wasn't overpowered, so it's probably safe to discard all of my circa-2018 Sword of Heaven and Earth opinions. (except Sergei being great, because he is great! Emmy and the other female Hero too. [I kinda blanked on this being a blind LP, but Ruben has already alluded to the existence of those units, so can I presume that it's OK to mention them as well as long as I don't go into specifics?])

wow, I really need to replay this game. I don't think I ever ended up finishing it, I have a particularly bad habit of nearly finishing a game and then abandoning it for no apparent reason when it comes to Fire Emblem. in this case it works out though because at the time I played it the fan translation hadn't released, so I had no idea what was going on in the story; guess I finally get to find out! (heck, may as well make it an ironman too; I'm not sure I've ever made a serious attempt at one [i.e. one that I didn't give up on after like 4 chapters lol], and SoHaE's obviously FE6-inspired unit design seems like it would lend itself well to the playstyle)

anyway, hope this wasn't too out of the blue! I've read the first few updates (not the latest one though, yet) and I'm enjoying the LP so far!

Of these two, I'll admit I always had a preference for Grape, based entirely on his face. He looks so good.

I second these. Sergei's a fun mage in a game full of really mediocre ones. I've gotten great results out of Leo in the past, but he's kinda boring. Eliza, the prepromoted sage, is the other fun mage of the game. Her growths are uncharacteristically insane for this game. She has a Lilina-tier magic growth! Quite the interesting unit, her. As for Emmy and the other female hero... It's just nice to see a game with female heroes as the norm rather than the exception.

Just don't spoil the more plot-critical ones and it'll be fine, I think, unless Shaky says otherwise.

That's how I felt when I saw the translation, myself. As I've said a few times before, it's wonky, but it gets the job done. It's enough of a miracle that it exists at all, better not look a gift horse in the mouth! You can tell the Kaga influence in a few places. I'd wager the creator was a fan.

Yeah, my guess is this is a mistranslation; maybe for something like "Knowing the Kutolah tribe is in danger", perhaps? so what's supposed to be a simple "rushing to help your allies" summary ends up being needlessly confusing and implies your allies are suddenly a threat. (I'm really grateful that this game has a fan translation at all, especially when it's a fangame itself! It does seem to be pretty rough in places, though.)

Despicable!

I'll admit to finding Liane kind of entertaining, but "good-hearted" certainly isn't how I would describe her... Maybe another mistranslation? (Okay, probably not. More likely a product of assuming that being a child automatically = pure and innocent when children can be horrible jerks too. [Some would argue that's their default mode of existence, but I digress...])

Yeah Pascal really is not worth the trouble of recruiting when he's just Navarre, especially when you already got a better sword unit in the last chapter! (Okay that could also describe Navarre himself, but at least you can put Navarre on a horse in the remake; Pascal here has no such opportunity.)

Interestingly this dialogue also plays if you killed Pascal, like I did when playing this chapter. Bit confusing when he's supposed to be, you know, dead... (I'm guessing that the trigger is "seize without recruiting Pascal" without regard to whether you killed him or not, that would make the most sense, and it also kind of backs up your last sentence here about the chapter only being intended to be experienced in a very specific way.)
