What if there were "version shinies" or "version variants"?

I just had an idea: What if Pokemon had "version shinies" or "version variants", one for each version? For example, Pokemon in Gold would have a gold variant, Pokemon in Silver would have a silver variant, and so forth.

That could be pretty cool. Were you thinking that the "version shinies" would replace the traditional shinies, or simply supplement them? Also, how about trading: if I trade a"Gold Shiny" to Pokemon Silver, does it stay a "Gold Shiny", or become a "Silver Shiny"?

The idea is that they would be supplemental. Version Shinies would retain their home version appearance, so yes, a Gold Pikachu would stay Gold if traded to Silver.

That could provide an extra motivation to trade between versions. Perhaps they could be more common than actual shinies? That way, they'd be more readily moved around via GTS and Wonder Trade.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. A 1:256 ratio, perhaps? Still fairly rare but nowhere near as much as regular shinies.
