Non-Mechanical Crest Powers

Does Marianne really use her crest to talk with animals? It was my understanding that it was her personality just being more attuned to feel what animals are feeling, nothing to do with her crest.

Throughout the game everyone says people with crests are stronger and they can wield the heroes' relics. But the only in-story show of strength is Dimitri, whom they went really overboard with. The part of being able to wield heroes' relics was added in both story and gameplay though.

Three Hopes explicitly pointed out that people with his crest tend to be stronger than average. As for the rest, it's kind of implied that at least one or two of them improves one's affinity for magic.

Dimitri explicitly has great strength due to his. Edelgard makes reference to her own "monstrous strength", which is almost assuredly crest-related. I'd generally assume all the "physical" crests (ones that affect weapon attacks or combat arts) have some sort of push in this way. Characters with these crests tend to have higher strength stats than the characters without, the main exceptions being Dedue and Raphael whose builds and training regimen are both exceptional. And also Shamir, but her high strength is almost surely an accident due to the way advanced bases are programmed; her listed stats in the code are unimpressive. There are also Crests which help with magic, of course - most Crestless characters have relatively weak magic stats AND spell lists. The main exceptions here are Hubert and Dorothea.

We're also told their uses are almost exclusively useful for war, so other abilities like talking to animals seem unlikely to be crest-related (although Marianne's crest is extraordinarily rare so there's a possibility).
