Create your own Emblems!

We got the Emblems from the story itself, and DLC will gives us a few more. Recently I thought it would be something of a fun exercise to think how other characters would work if they too were to be Emblems in this game. The possibilities are practically endless. We got a large sample size to pick from. Can be the standard one character per Emblem, or do it like Eirika or Edelgard's where it's two or even three characters in the same Emblem. So, say, an Emblem of Whitewings would totally be doable! Or go even crazier still by doing, borrowing the term from FEH, a Harmonic Emblem!

So, gonna start myself using what is probably my most favorite pair of characters in the series: Sonya and Genny!

Notes:

Since both Sonya and Genny are magic users and become close friends through their supports, hence the titles of Magic Coven and Sorority. It'd be a club of two, sure, but perhaps Celica and Micaiah get to join... if Emblems had more interactions between each other than what they have in-game. Oh well.

Regarding the use of Coven, I based it more on its meaning of "gathering/group", rather than the traditional use of referring to a gathering/organization of witches. Then again, it could also be seen as a nod to witches being a thing in Valentia. Heck, Sonya herself was a Witch when fought as an enemy in Gaiden. She still joined as a Mage, but it was there.

Sonya is the main member of the pair, thus, calling upon the Emblem's power with "Dazzle" to invoke her sense of flamboyancy... well, fits quite nicely, eh? XD

Ladyblade inflicting magical damage is due to Hexblade, which is one of its Combat Arts.

I based many elements from their default Overclasses, Enchantress and Exemplar, which sort of seem to have a dichotomy of light and dark themes. As such, I felt using the terms Dawn and Dusk fit quite well to represent switching between the two. Dawn, darkness leading to light, Sonya switches to Genny. Dusk, light leading to darkness, Genny switches to Sonya. Despite presented as if they were separate, I'm sure that if they were an actual thing, it'd be the same skill in the data. Just calling for different text strings to display as needed.

There are three kinds of Invoke. Genny's summoned Soldiers, Silque's summoned Dread Fighters, and Tatiana's summoned Pegasus Knights. Thus, all three get to be represented here. In lack of having an equivalent to Dread Fighters, Sword Fighters were chosen to align in spirit.

Teleportation may be a Witch thing, though again, Sonya was briefly one in Gaiden so it still fits.

Holy Flamberge takes its name due to this version also gets charged with Seraphim magic from Genny. Hence the effectiveness against Corrupted.

Following the footsteps of the DLC Emblems, the Engage Attack gets an upgraded version too. The healing effect is due to Celica bringing in the Golden Dagger's Earth's Boon. Sure, it's not exactly locked to her, but it's basically a Prf weapon in all but in-game function even before it becomes the Beloved Zofia.

Grimoire is named after the Grimoire Ring itself, as the name of the skill it grants is the unimaginative Magic +5.

I chose the Southern Desert since, well, it's where Sonya is fought. Even if to recruit her, you have to avoid it. Anyway, due to how the original map is a thin strip of Grass terrain with the movement-reducing Sand for the rest... well, it'd have to accommodate the way it now works in Engage. So most if not all the Sand would have to become Quicksand, and the regular terrain becomes Sand perhaps. This is because the gimmick of the map, more or less, is that you fight pretty much nothing but Witches (and again, Sonya was also one in Gaiden), who would naturally be unimpeded by the terrain... since they could use Teleportation anyway. Well, Engage doesn't have a Witch class, so... perhaps to substitute, they could be Sages. Or just like how the Divine Paralogues seem to introduce new classes (like the dragons in Tiki's), then we could have actual Witches. Either way, the enemies should be able to use Teleportation, to preserve the spirit of the original map. As would Sonya of course. Speaking of, Genny would also be present for the battle. It was something of a missed opportunity to not have Ephraim show up for Eirika's Paralogue... or at all, really, so I'm avoiding that for this one. As they lack the full set of three weapons of their own, I'd fill them up like so: Sonya would have Entrap, Mire, and Ladyblade; while Genny would get Psychic, Ward, and Seraphim.

Well, that was quite a lot to go through, huh. It might still need a tweak or two, but well, wanted to share it. Perhaps even get some critique/advice on the matter.

So, what can the members of SF at large come up with? Doesn't have to be as thorough as I did, haha. Still, let's see what ideas can you bring!

Emblem of Seeds, Garon. Obviously.

Invocation: "Adopt us, Emblem of Seeds."

Statboosts: Big boost to strength, HP and luck.

Some weapons in no particular order: Bölverk, Ginnungagap, Aurgelmir, Ganglari, Concrete Beard.

Some skills in no particular order: Kidnap (can adopt enemies into your army), Gooey (fills an area with goo that works similar to quicksand), Stretchy Arms (+1 range to all melee weapons), Nohrian Authority (Summons faceless to fight for him), Increasing Discomfort (unit gains speed as they take damage).

Engage skill: Not even my best trap. Enemies that step on a specified tile within 4 spaces of the unit will be struck by a rain of arrows, dealing heavy damage and ending the enemy's turn. Deals effective damage against Kagetsu.

Engage attack: Salt the earth. Garon pulls a massive salt shaker out of his beard and salts all the rebellions, destroying them before they sprout. Pulverizes enemies in an area and delays all coming reinforcements by a turn.

Why am I not surprised? XD "Adopt us" is just win. lol

That said, some of those ideas do could be viable. Does Garon T-Poses when doing Nohrian Authority?

Okay, edited in one more thing to my own. Because I can't believe I forgot to add one final thing. Mainly, which legacy map would be used for a Paralogue battle. Still need to add the details on how it'd work, but well, I'll do it when I have the time.

Lyon: Emblem of Shadows/ Bracelet of the Shadow Prince

"Enshroud us, Emblem of Shadows!"

Equipment: Gleipnir, Berserk (staff), Naglfar

I would have had Nosferatu instead of Gleipnir, but Micaiah has it. I chose Berserk because Celica's the only staff giver so far and I thought having a unique offensive staff would be cool. Also, I will forever be scarred by Seth going Berserk and ORKO'ing Eirika in my first FE8 playthrough.

Sync Skill: Dark Stone Premonition - if an enemy attack would hit, it has a chance to miss instead (based on Lyon's use of the Dark Stone to foresee future disasters)

Engage Skill: Summon Phantasm - summon a controllable clone of the Engaged unit. This unit has half the Def/ Res but the same stats. Summons in Sacred Stones had no Def/ Res and only 1 HP, but Lyon's versions were stronger than those of the Summoner class' and we already have one-hit wonder clones with Lyn, so I figured having a single, stronger phantasm would be a worthy alternative to her ability.

Engage Attack: Demon King's Aura - sets Mov of all enemies in a given radius to 0 (and halves their Def/ Res if that isn't too OP). The Dark Stone could also be used to heal wounds that normal magic couldn't, but I didn't want to have a second Micaiah (and I thought just having a skill that only healed status ailments would be pointless).

Stats Boosted: Mag, Def, Res (to make the Phantasms stronger).

Inheritable Stats Include: Mag/Res +X

Proficiencies Given: Tome, Staff, Sword(?) (As an Eirika reference, maybe?)

Elincia, Emblem of Mercy (Bracelet of the Resolute Queen)

Paralogue map: Fort Alpea, from Elincia's Gambit (RD: Part 2, endgame)

Stat boosts: Lck, Dex, and Spd.

Engage Weapons: Tempest Blade (1-2 range physical sword) (lvl 1), Physic (like regular physic but better range) (lvl 10), Amiti (low weight sword with brave effect) (lvl 20). [I was tempted to include a sleep staff somewhere in here as well, but figured the three I settled on were probably better.]

Engage Skill: Battlefield healer. After attacking, may use a staff that targets an ally as part of the same turn (if not proficient in staves, may still use up to D rank staves to do so).

Engage Attack: Stun (hits for triple damage and automatically breaks the opponent) (Dragon: also freezes the opponent). [I kinda wanted to give this a better name since "stun" is pretty uninspiring, but I couldn't think of anything else that sounds better while keeping the same flavour.]

Proficiency Unlocks: Staff and Sword.

Sync Skills: Graceful flight (unit moves as if it were a flying unit, ignoring terrain) (Flying: Nullifies Effective: Flying) (not inheritable). Mercy (adds an option when attacking to leave the enemy at 1hp rather than killing them) (inheritable). Renewal (restores 10% of the unit's HP at the start of every player phase) (inheritable).

Inheritable Skill: Healing mastery (scales to give healing staves +20 healing and +2 range at max level).

Ahaha, when I started mine, I wanted to make it look like it could be in the actual game. Hence even adding stuff like the individual stats for the weapons and the like. But yeah, as I mentioned, it's fine if others don't go that far.

I know we're getting Robin anyway for DLC, but I really think he should have been in the game at base instead of Lucina. As there are too few magic oriented Emblems. I think his default weapon could be "Superior Jolt", his lv 10 weapon could be "Thoron" and his lv 15 weapon could be "Goetia". Thoron would obviously be the most useful one of them (maintaining it's range from this game even if it might have different stats). In terms of abilities, I think he (or she, if gender balance really matters to some people) could steal Lucina's All For One super attack, and in general could steal the dual assist properties, as those are more based on Awakening's mechanics than Lucina. Though All For One is quite based on her personality, so maybe his once per engagement ability could be rally spectrum.

Aside from Robin, the Emblem I think that should have been in the game is Emblem Kris. Specifically I'd go with female Kris so we can get a pegasus knight (and thus flying) emblem, and also because it slightly irks me that Parthia and Mercurius are in this game, but Gradivus isn't. So obviously that would be the final weapon, though I guess to better match Lucina and Marth it would be better as the lv10 weapon, in general though Gradivus has always been better than its peers, so being the final weapon would suit. And then we could have a sort of reverse Sigurd, having swords for the first two weapons and a lance for the final. Maybe Lady Sword and Master Sword for the first two weapons. Only, any unit can use Lady Sword, but girls (and Rosado) get additional stat boosts from it. As for passive effects and one time use, giving legit flying movement to anyone engaged sounds like it would be fantastic, though I'm not sure about getting the character stranded somewhere when the engagement runs out. Maybe it should be entirely possible and the player's fault if that happens. But to make it not entirely a chapter breaker, have it so Kris passively fills the engage meter like that one character's class skill. The 1 per engagement ability could be just a general super attack. A support ability would make sense for Kris, but New Mystery doesn't really provide much in the way of inspiration in its gameplay.

I like the idea of Garon provinding Ganglari.

I admit, I'm curious to what a Whitewings one could be. Let's try...

Bracelet of the Pegasus Sisters

Soar on, Emblem of Whitewings!

Boosts Speed, Dexterity, and Resistance

To be different, use their heroes weapons: Whitewing Lance, Whitewing Spear, and Whitewing Blade. The weapons differ in that the use speed, dexterity, or resistance to calculate their damage instead of strength. Be an Emblem that focuses on hitting weak points, getting critical hits.

Paralogue map has a lot of options, though my first thought is the 'rescue Est' map vs Grieth from Echoes.

Sync Skill: Ride Along: Unit can pickup 'rescue' units, and drop them off as in older games.

Engage Attack: Triangle attack, All three sisters attack with all three weapons, landing in a critical hit. Could have a special effect if Minerva ended up getting an Emblem too.

Rough ideas, I'm sure someone could refine / do this better.

Glad you like it.

Just looked at Nagas, Milas, Dumas, Heims and Anris page at the wiki.org, because I know nothing about the lore of the land. And that´s basically all that is on there.

Only thing that feels lacking right now, would be giving Heim a weapon, I was thinking a lance, but I couldn´t find any ingame lances from the relevant games that would feel like they fit and slapping on something like a Brave feels lazy and not quite right for Mr. Saintman.

Heim's weapon is the Book of Naga. You already have it listed in your post.

Really enjoying the creativity on here! Here's my take:

Ring of Mimesis, Xane

Invocation: Deceive and delight, Emblem of Mischief!

Paralogue: The Battle for Altea

Tiki's paralogue map is more fitting but oh well. Instead of the usual boss rush, he blends into the normal enemies and you have to find him first, through waves of reinforcements - a hint to finding him is that he will not act aggressively, and use healing items if his disguised form is hurt but not defeated. He only reveals himself if you're able to reduce his disguise's HP to 0, and will periodically switch location/stats to a different enemy if HP is at max. To compensate for the hassle, his stats and weaponry will be only a slightly better/tankier version of the enemy he most recently resembled, except he also possesses Revival Stones when undisguised.

Stat Boosts: HP/Dex/Luck (+1/+2/+3)

Sync Skill Lvl 1: Dissemble

When unit uses this command, enemy red units ignore it, but can also pass through unit's space. Does not work on boss units and certain named units. Green units in range may attack unit.

Sync Skill Lvl 3 (inheritable): Quick Study

When unit ends turn next to an ally, receives +1 to all 7 basic stats (and Bld) in which ally is superior to unit. Bonus lasts for one turn and does not stack, but different adjacent allies may provide benefit for separate stats. Stat boost increases to +2 at Bond Lvl 12, and then +3 at Lvl 18. SP Cost 2500 > 5000 > 7500.

Sync Skill Lvl 4 (inheritable): Omni-Precision

Grants Hit/Avo+3 when using a weapon or staff, scales in +3 increments to Hit/Avo+15 (at Bond Levels 9/13/17/19 respectively). SP Cost 500 > 1000 > 2000 > 3000 > 4000

Proficiencies: All - Swords 2/Arts 4/Staves 6/Bows 7/Knives 8/Tomes 11/Lances 14/Axes 16.

Engage Skill Lv 1: Freelance

When Freelance is activated, unit may select one adjacent unit, and copy the engaged form (skills, engage weapons and engage attack) of its equipped Emblem. Skills and engage weapons may be used for the duration of this unit's engage, or until Freelance is activated again. Unit may still use their engage attack only once per engage. Target unit does not have to be engaged for Freelance to activate. Freelance may be used multiple times when unit is engaged, but costs one action each time.

Engage Skill Lv 10: Jack-of-all-Trades

When Freelance is activated, unit also acquires the class type, any class skills and any special class abilities of the target unit (Dance cannot be copied), including weapon types usable by target class at the same level of proficiency. Unit counts as its own and copied class types for the purposes of weaknesses/combat mechanics/emblem special effects. For example, if copied class type is Flying, unit may cross terrain as if flying, but also becomes vulnerable to bow damage.

Engage Skill Lv 15: Perfect Trace

When Freelance is activated, unit also acquires the personal skill, any inherited skills, and weapons/staves (only as many as unit has space for) from the inventory of the target unit. Unit may only use weapons/items that either it or the target unit is able to use. Copied weapons/staves cannot be traded, and staves are copied over with the same number of uses as the original. Copied weapons/staves only last until the first of: they run out of uses; the duration of unit's engage; Freelancer is reactivated.

Engage Weapon: N/A (requires use of Freelance)

Engage Attack: N/A (requires use of Freelance)

Hadn't thought of Tokyo Mirage Sessions - that's a fun callback! Would this then be a unit calling on Emblem Tsubasa calling on Caeda?

The root of "kowashitai" is "kowasu" - to break, or destroy. This form of the word means " (I) want to destroy". Not sure whether that was what you wanted.

Hadn't thought of Tokyo Mirage Sessions - that's a fun callback! Would this then be a unit calling on Emblem Tsubasa calling on Caeda?

Mostly just going for the meme but it works better than I thought it would!

I thought it'd be fun to have a Tokyo Mirage character as an emblem because they'd be so confused on how they became a Mirage and how it all works

Using the format of FE/SF/Morgan--Grandmaster, here's my attempt at bringing over some non FE mechanics (and maybe make a certain poster regret going with the meme option) with

Notes:

Yeah I know sorry for drawing a blank on the emblem name and invocation.

Engage skill and Attack is a reference to Lynette being next to him providing a combination of her skills.

Nothung using the spell blade effect is a reference to it's 15 light damage.

Not sure what effect if any to give Gram out of it's +1 strikes (whatever that means in regular FE) or revival stone ability.

Overall didn't include as many Berwick saga mechanics as I thought I might, I considered trying to tie Berwick counters more or reference hexes but I still like it.

Session: will chain attack from anywhere if another player unit attack with a lance or wind/elwind/excalibur tome [depending on unit type can add in more e.g. Backups can session off of Axes, Mysticals off of Fire tomes, etc.]

OK i love this this is so good.

And yeah iirc kowashitai translated to "I'm breaking free" at least in the context of the song, I seem to remember a subtitle of some kind translating it that way.

"Break free, Emblem of Idols!" is a pretty cool invocation ngl

I would unironically love to play this map.

I was so sure we'd get the other Avatars as an "extra DLC Emblem" or as a freebie, so I guess I'll just do it myself, as a purple space man once said:

F!Robin/ M!Corrin/ F!Byleth - "Forge A Path, Emblem of Variance!"

Equipment:

  • Levin Sword (Lv 1): better version of the existing one
  • Fetters of Dromi (Lv 10): Mov +1 & Canter 1 (stacks with Sigurd's)
  • Dragonstone+: Smash weapon with inbuilt Draconic Hex

Sync Skills:

  • "Crossed Paths": Swap to another Emblem (maybe each one could boost two different stats?)
  • Dragon Vein (same as og!Corrin)
  • Rally Spectrum: target ally gets +4 to all stats.

Engage Attack:

  • Professor's Guidance: all allies in a 2-square radius get Mov +1.

The Sync Skills are probably OP and the Engage Attack is underpowered, but I tried to get something from each Avatar. What do you think?
