Don Draper
So after looking at a few nicovideo clips and trying some strategies out on my own, I've come to the realization that SSS Ranking FE5 may not be as hard as it appears. So I've decided to try it out, and with a few restrictions: 1) No Elite Mode 2) No move growth abuse. If somebody levels up in move, I just won't utilize it 3) No removes. Exceptions MAY be if a character has over a 50% chance to remove throughout the chapter (Example: Ronan needs to remove once on any turn to 5 turn a chapter, a 56% chance of happening) or if the remove must occur on the very first turn, with no other events influenced by luck occurring throughout the remainder of the chapter (Example: Sleuf removing to recruit Amalda in Chapter 19) So there you go, this should be fun. I'm going to be recording videos, since its way more interesting then describing word by word to you guys what I did each chapter. To start off, here's Chapter 1 This chapter is pretty straightforward. For those of you who saw my last video, its pretty similar except I position Leaf so that he gets a bit more exp. I want him to level up a bit before Manster to make it a bit easier. Eyvel gets a critical on the boss, but it isn't necessary as he's killed in two hits anyways (and she always doubles). Chapter 1 (This post) 4 turns Chapter 2 4 turns Chapter 2x 8 turns Chapter 3 6 turns Chapter 4 12 turns Edited May 2, 2010 by Ari Gold
Rodykitty
This is gonna be really entertaining to watch, as Chapter 1 was. Good luck in succeeding at this great task.
Mekkah
i am posting so that you need not to cram two video's in the OP i mean that's a lovely strategy is it from PK
Don Draper
Thanks for the encouragement guys, haha. The strategy is actually from a guy from nicovideo, with slight modifications. Anyways, Chapter 2 is now up. If Leaf avoids hits from those two bandits, it makes the whole chapter a whole lot smoother. No criticals were necessary at the bottom of the map (As you can see, Dagda, Havan, Tanya and Othin all had an extra turn if they needed one) and Eyvel needs to kill that boss in one turn (Either with two normal hits or a critical if his stats are too high) Those of you who saw my previous Chapter 2 video will notice that I gave Leaf more experience, again to help in Manster. Rodykitty
Seeing little getting captured is quite scary for me, but I can't wait to see how you manage.
grandjackal
Holy crap, how did I miss this topic? Yes...Yes! This'll be good, keep it up!
YayMarsha
Ah, this should be good. I don't really have anything useful to add other than wishing you luck, but I'll definitely be watching this stuff soon. Special Thracia runs are always so fun to watch, for some reason. :) By the way, are you using an emulator for this run? If so, savestates or no? Good luck with this. Don Draper
Thanks Jackal and Yay Marsha. I am using an emulator for this run, but I'm not using savestates whatsoever for the final recorded runs (I use them to experiment during dry runs, thats it). Anyways,Chapter 2x is now up. Leaf gets the Speed Ring to help him in Manster. Throughout the video, there are quite a few crits, but the only real necessary one is the one against the Warrior at the top of the map if his stats are too high (Eyvel's hit rates are close to 99%, so she just got screwed on some of those misses). I didn't capture anything again. I was contemplating it, but it was just a bit too risky and I really needed Tanya to get that torch. The only axe user I'm using seriously is Othin anyways, and Pugi is going to last him for a longgggggg time. grandjackal
Proving once again that 2x is a boring chapter, considering how unengaging it is. It's just funny to have 3 units just sit their twidling their thumbs. This is also why I prefer to be lazy whenever I play most FEs. Watching that just gives me whiplash, because 3 turns just seems like it's more stress than it needs to be. Great job so far though for the real sense of the video though. I can't wait to see what comes up next.
Aquilae
It's definitely interesting to see someone attempt SSS without Elite Mode. One thing I'm concerned about is how you would get Saphy up to scratch to Warpskip 11 and 11x without spamming the Repair Staff / RNG abusing for misses. Don Draper
Actually, I'm pretty much forced to rig a Repair Staff miss at the beginning of each chapter before Chapter 10. That means a rigged miss in 3, 7, 8 and 8x. A few Psychic staff uses later and she'll be good to go by Chapter 10. Chapter 3 is now up I rigged a miss with Saphy's repair staff to help her reach A staves by Chapter 10. Some crappy levelups which I wasn't happy about, but the only level up that really mattered was Leaf's, who's average apart from luck. After the Repair Staff miss it was smooth sailing. Ronan's critical wasn't necessary. Also, the Vulnerary trade to Fin wasn't necessary either, I just took it in case I needed an extra for Chapters 7 or 8. I make sure the only thing in Leaf/Lifis' inventory is the Light Sword. Makes Chapter 4 much easier to low turn Edited April 30, 2010 by Ari Gold
grandjackal
Yeesh, the speed of an SSS run is just mind boggling ridiculous... Wish I had something more constructive to say than keep it up, but...Keep it up.
Don Draper
Finally got Chapter 4 up, Part 1 and Part 2 although I think Windows Movie Maker butchered the quality somehow. This chapter is simple once you get the right chest placement. All I miss out on is a Steel Sword, which won't be necessary for the remainder of Manster. Brighton got screwed with the RNG against the armors, but it didn't affect my turncount. The Armor room was surprisingly straightforward as well. They have very low hit rates against everybody, so nobody was really at risk of dying. Again, with the right chest placement, the chapter is a breeze. Still, I took my time since it was a longer chapter, and I didn't want to forget any steps.
Rodykitty
I really liked the first & second turn tactics and the use of Fergus carrying Karin. I also noticed that in this chapter, and a lot of FEDS chapters, a good indication of low turns is completing most of the chapter before reinforcements start coming. grandjackal
Ok, seems like a pretty standard run for chapter 4 so far. *Clicks part 2* Ok, about to breach the escape room. *Sees you rush Leaf to Dalshin* Wait, what are you doing? *Sees you make a wall line of units* Oh my god, you're not gonna...You are, aren't you? *Sees you use the wall and specific placing of distractions to keep enemies from targeting too many at once save Machua, your best evader, sees you flawlessly escape* Holy bejesus... *Slow applauds*

Mekkah
I usually have people clogged up in the 2-tile wide hallway and have the armors come to me. Which is annoying if there's soldiers behind you.
fatgamecat
Nice strats, it's good you're giving credit to the nicovideo creators. I've gotten an S but SSS is a little too time consuming for me.
