A group of mercenaries, the best in the whole of Nashen...
The dead walking amongst the living...
A quest dared upon by many, but one that no-one has ever survived...
Welcome, to the Soldiers of Fortune, a group of mercenaries famed for their skill and wealth amongst the common folk. It is your very first mission, and most recruits do not survive their first...
You must investigate the evils of the Tower, where there are rumors of a dread necromancer is manipulating the minds and bodies of the recently dead... You have been contracted, along with a small group of fellow recruits, to kill this dread necromancer.
Setting: Nashen, a fantasy continent inhabited by elves, orcs, goblins and many other races.
How many players?: 6-8 players.
[spoiler=Sign-up Form!]Character Name:
Class:
Race:
Gender:
Starting Gear:
Backstory:
Stats
Strength: (1-10)
Speed: (1-10)
Magic: (1-10)
Defense:(1-10)

The stats are not actually used for dice rolls or anything, they are simply used to determine how a fight goes, as this is mainly RP based and not stat-based. For example, doing certain actions may require a certain amount of a certain stat. Say, running away from battle may require you to have at least 5 speed.
[spoiler=Example Scenario!]The orc barbarian is approaching, axe swinging wildly.
Do you:
A) Attack with your weapon? (Requires strength equal to or greater than weapon weight and a weapon)
B) Cast an attack spell? (Requires magic equal to the spells prerequisites.)
C) Raise your shield? (Requires strength equal to the shield's weight, and defense equal to or higher than the orc's strength)
D) Run like hell? (Requires speed greater than the orc)

I'll add more later, as it is kinda late.
You have 20 points to distribute when you make a character. However, while this sounds nice, every class requires a certain amount of one or two stats:
Mage: At least 7 magic.
Thief: At least 7 speed.
Priest: At least 6 magic.
Paladin: At least 6 defense.
Swordsman: At least 5 strength and speed.
Archer: Same as Swordsman.
It is also required to have a score of at least 3 for magic to use any magic items you may find in your travels.
Everyone starts with basic armor, weapons and a single object of sentimental value.
Everyone starts with health depending on their class.
Thief: 18 HP.
Mage: 16 HP.
Swordsman: 20 HP.
Paladin: 23 HP.
Priest: 17 HP.
Archer: 16 HP.
Please adjust your sign-up forms accordingly. My apologies, I just want to rebalance things a little.

Hmmm... I'll outline some basic classes.
Mage: A student in the arcane arts. Can use attack magic. Has high magic, decent speed, but low strength and defense. Variations include: Necromancer, Invoker and Elementalist. Necromancers get a +1 to magic when using dark magic, Elementalists get a +1 when using elemental magic, and Invokers get a +1 when using holy magic. They get a -1 to magic when using magic of a different type however. You can just be a normal mage and not receive any penalties or benefits, however.
Priest: A worshipper of a benevelont god. Can use healing magic, and can wield one weapon of choice. Magic not as high as a mage, but has better all-round stats.
Swordsman: A well-rounded warrior with no magical knowledge. Good strength, speed and defense, but no magic whatsoever. Wields any blade. (Daggers, swords, etc)
Paladin: A tanky warrior who can use minor healing spells. High strength and defense, average magic, but low speed. Can use lances, axes, and shields.
Thief: A scoundrel with the ability to pick locks and disarm traps. Great speed, okay strength, but low defense and magic. Can use daggers. With the right training, a thief can become an assassin.
Assassin: You cannot start out as this class. High speed and strength, but low magic and defense. Uses swords. To become an assassin, a thief must be trained by someone much stronger than they are. They have all the abilities of the thief.
Archer: A bow-wielding foot-soldier. Can use bows. Has above average strength and speed, but low magic and average defense.
That's all I have so far for classes.
EDIT: Pretty much, Majestic Paladin. Perhaps I should've asked for backstory and starting gear... Yeah, I'll add that to the sign-up form. Oh... Could you tweak your defense slightly? We will need to have some room for improvement from training or whatever.

Perhaps you should have a total number for the stats to add up to. For example, each character gets 20 points to distribute among their stats, as long as no one stat exceeds 10 points. Something like that. You could give out more points as the story progresses.

Lucretia.png

Character Name: Lucretia Dara
Class: Archer
Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
Age: 20
Starting Gear: Oak bow, brown cloak, dagger
Backstory: Lucretia was born and raised in the forest village of Shenandoah. She grew up in a tribal community that lived within the treetops. There, the Shenandoans celebrated the life around them, from the plants and birds to the enigmatic spirits said to roam the forest. Even the bow was revered; it was not simply a weapon but a way of life, used for everything from hunting and fighting to even in construction of the village itself. They were a festive people, holding some large feast at least once a month. It was a happy environment to grow up in.
If you were looking for some horrific event that scarred the girl for life, look elsewhere. Lucretia had a pretty typical life for a Shenandoan. As a young girl, she joined other children in training with a bow. The only unique thing about this was that she was the only girl to use a bow. Warrior and hunting roles were often reserved for men, while women tended to the village and young people. This changed when Lucretia showed impressive talent with the bow, excelling over most boys her age. The chief recognized her skill set and allowed for further training with his blessing.
By the time she reached 20, Lucretia was one of the top bowman (bowwoman) in the village. She was a teacher, passing her own skills to both boys and girls. It seemed everyone in the village was trying to pair her off with their finest male warriors. Other than the matchmaking, life was good.
But the good life wouldn’t last. The shamans were seeing disturbing visions: a dread necromancer was gaining power. Everything they loved was being threatened with annihilation. Such predictions were confirmed just a few days later, when an emissary from the out side world appeared. He claimed to be from “Soldiers of Fortune” and recounted the tale of the dead rising. He urged the tribe members to join the mercs to aid in the effort to stop the great evil. Most were reluctant, wanting to stay in the village to help protect the community. It seemed the emissary would leave alone.
“I will go,” Lucretia said. She could understand the village's concerns, but it would be far better to stop this evil before it even reached the forest. The chief, though hesitant, allowed her to go, but not empty-handed. Villagers gifted her with necessary supplies, an ample supply of arrows, and fine crafted oak bow.
With the chief’s blessings, Lucretia set off to join the Soldiers, knowing that she was the first, and perhaps last, line of defense for her people.

Character Name: Arton

Class: Thief

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Starting Gear: Steel dagger, black cloak, lock pick,

Backstory: Arton was raised on the streets of Darques by his widowed Mother from the time he was five years old until he was an official adult. Life wasn't easy for the pairs seeing as their only source of income was from Arton's mother's job at the local market where she worked as a clerk for one of the smaller shops for pitiful wages. One day when Arton was around ten or so he resolved to no longer be such a burden for his mother and began to "collect" many things like money from "the street" or so he told his older mother when asked how he managed to get such things. For a boy so young he was unnaturally skilled at "collecting" and his skill only increased as he grew older.

When he turned fifteen his mother gave him his father's old cloak and told him how his father had been a talented thief and for a while she had too and it served to strength his resolved to continue "collecting" even though it was also the reason why he had no father. However when he turned eighteen he decided to try to find more honest work at his mother's request and for a while he roamed from city to city looking for "honest" work. A year passed and just as he was about to resort back to "collecting" he heard of a hiring group of mercenaries know as the "Soldiers of Fortune". He'd heard tales of their fame and (mostly) fortune of the mercenaries and, for a thief like himself, it seemed like a good and honest profession.

Character Name: Flin

Class: Necromancer? (I assume the variation starts at the beginning)

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Starting Gear: Necromancer's Robes, Dread Spellbook, Master's Staff

Backstory: Flin was abandoned at an age far too young to remember his parents or most of the children in the church. Although he remembered one thing about that time; it was that the priests never stopped talking about how benevolent their god was; it was sickening. When he was about six or so a strange man came into the church dressed in dark robes and examined him along with the other children. As Flin was examined the man whispered, "Yes, you'll do nicely," and motioned for Flin to follow him. When Flin followed the man out of the church he noticed the priests looking at him with pity and disgust but he didn't care; he wouldn't have to put of with their insufferable preachings anymore because he was being adopted.

The man in dark robes turned out to be a Necromancer although he was far more kind than Flin thought a Necromancer ought to be. It turned out that Flin had a natural talent for dark magic and he was adopted for the sole reason of the Necromancer wanting a pupil to pass his knowledge down to. From that day Flin learned about the dark arts from the man until he himself was a Necromancer. All was well for the pair of Necromancers until one day when the village they were staying was attacked by brigands. He and his master, who he saw as his father, were able to slay the brigands easily enough although the villagers weren't thankful in the least. Instead they accused both of them of hiring the brigands in the first place and attempted to capture them.

Not wanting to kill the near defenseless villagers or allow Flin to be captured his Master gave Flin his staff and teleported him away from the village. Unfortunately Flin had no idea where he was after he was teleported and wandered from place to place. He didn't realize how desperate he was until his gold ran out. Fortunately for him the town he had wandered into had mercenaries that were hiring. If he recalled correctly they were "The Soldiers of Fortune" or something like that.

I'll give this a shot.

Name: Gaile

Class: Paladin

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Starting gear: Standard steel spear, standard armor, a silver amulet

Backstory: Not much is known about Gaile. In fact, it seemed none had heard of the man until recently, when he was accused of murdering a young woman. He was to be hanged, but was set free instead for unknown reasons.

He refuses to discuss the matter, or any part of his past. However, his skill in strategy and combat indicates military training.

He joins the Soldiers of Fortune for unknown reasons....

Stats:

HP: 23

Strength: 6

Speed: 4

Magic: 4

Defense: 6

EDIT:

After thinking a bit, I've decided to change some things.

EDIT 2:

Seven people? Okeydokey. That'll do.

Before I create the real thread, I'd like to make sure you're all still going to do it. If so, edit your post with the word 'CHOCOLATE' at the bottom. Thanks.
