48 hours to vote!

Trying some new voting options. For now, only 'Personal Favorite!' votes will decide the winner. First gets to decide on an optional theme and a mug for the next round, and the remaining top five get to choose one mug each, after the theme and first mug has been chosen (so there'll be a total of five mugs and one theme for the next round). Once Best in Theme is actually implemented we can look into how the votes should/shouldn't be weighted between categories.

The timeframe I'd like to keep is two days for voting, then one day for #1 to choose mug+theme, and another day for #2-4 to choose the remaining mugs. (We'll see what happens this round and adjust if necessary.)

Yeah I guess 'Underdog Award' needs more explanation than it's worth.

I'm hoping/thinking the multiple choice option will bring out recognition for the entries people like but don't want to choose over their #1 favorite (which is what I'm trying to get at there).

It's just slightly misleading verbiage, since upon reading it, it would make sense more in the context of when known inexperienced spriters are amidst a sea of experienced spriters?

So many voting options. ._.

Here's my feedback:

- I feel like the multiple choice polling option would be less efficient than just sticking with the one-choice Favorites option, personally. This is particularly because the multiple choice option seems to be garnering a lot of nearly-even votes under just about every entry, and there's no way of preventing people from picking just about every option (save for public humiliation via public polling).

- Underdog seems sort of redundant when coupled with the multiple choice option, although I realize this is an experimental poll. I'm also hope I'm correct in assuming Underdog is basically the "pick your second favorite" option? If that's the case, it might be better to use Favorites + Underdog, and then Best in Theme, if that's going to be a thing.

- If we do end up using the multiple choice polling option, it would be better to use a public poll. Though, the reason public polls were in place to begin with was purely as a preventative measure against people voting for themselves and getting away with it. I don't really think any of us are quite so petty as to vote for ourselves, but it's not like public/anon voting really hurts anyone, anyway.

- As for totaling up the votes for selecting the next round of mugs, I believe it would be best to stick to just the primary Favorites option, if there will only be two voting options. If there are three, it might work to have the first in each voting category contribute a portrait.

If we could have multiple choice but limit people to two votes, for their two favorites, that'd be awesome. Otherwise, you'll have people like me who just vote for all of the mugs xD (I generally like about 80-90% of the mugs in this comp)

Thanks for your feedback, guys.

I think for now we'll just pare it down to 'Best in Theme' (single option) and 'Pick your Favorites' (multiple choice), public votes, with top 2 in each category getting to choose mugs (if there's overlap, then I'll work with combined ranking to determine who else gets mug dibs).

For Multiple choice favorite, it's less efficient, but I think it shows feedback a little better (doing what Underdog was meant to do). The general range is good enough (3rd and 4th are currently swapped by a slim margin, #1 is still #1 by a good share of votes). Paired with public voting you can just take a particular person's judging tendencies as they are. (Did they just vote for their #1 favorite, do they vote across the board when everything appeals to them, do they choose to vote only for the best+next bests, any other unique things, etc.).

So @Klok no you vote how you want, enough people choose to make their votes weigh in more on a particular entry (by not voting for others) that this method should be all right. ^^
