  1. With how long this next part has been taking me to make; far longer than I expected, due to some production snags and life in general, I decided to change up my methods and start releasing videos on a scene-by-scene basis, rather than first finishing the entire video. I hope this improves on efficiency, so people won't have to wait as long.

  2. After more delays than I feel was needed for a video that is just shy of 50 minutes long, New Mystery of the Emblem OVERpLAY - Prologue 2 is complete!

  3.

Tore myself away from 3H to get some work done on my NMotE OVERpLAY: Prologue 2 video. Still need to add a couple more scenes and voice clips for the final product. I normally don't make previews this long, but I feel I owe it to my viewers for taking so needlessly long with this.

  4. It took me roughly four months to make it, but my Prologue 1 video for my New Mystery of the Emblem OVERpLAY is finally complete!

Since the setting up and stuff is done, the subsequent chapters shouldn't be as long as this one, nor take nearly as long to make.

Special thanks to Catti and Awan for the wonderful art I used in this video and am going to use in future videos!

  5. Whew. It's been awhile since I posted anything about my project, which, if I'm calculating this correctly, is going into its third month!

Anyway, I know I said that the last scene I posted would be the last until the full video is completed, but after being inactive for this long, I feel I owe you guys one more.

Anyway, this scene does not directly follow the scene I previously posted. To provide context, after Faye leaves Valentia at Kliff's suggestion to embark on a journey, she travels to Archanea. She stays at an inn, but a bad Archanea-Valentia exchange rate renders her nearly broke. She looks around the next day for ways to make some money, and comes across a recruitment poster for the Knights of Altea, complete with promises of free room and board and a negotiable salary (and a naked picture of Marth, in a nod to Chrom and Frederick's support), so Faye travels to the Altean capital to train to become a knight, which brings us to the beginning of this scene.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy, and my Prologue 1 video is nearly done! Just a few more scenes to go...

  6. Another scene down.

Artwork by Catti and Echoes footage borrowed from Linkmstr.

This is probably the last scene I'll share publicly in video form before the final product. I still intend to share some screenshots from future scenes, though.

  7. Yes, I know I haven't posted in a while. I have been working on the start of my NMotE OVERpLAY, but even now, it's only about 30%-40% complete, but I figured it's high time to share SOMETHING, so here's a couple videos with what I have so far. While I know it deals with events from Echoes, it does eventually get to the events in NMotE. Enjoy!

    Part 2

(Includes some footage from Ys Seven, actual audio from Fire Emblem Echoes, and inserted BGM tracks from Fire Emblem Echoes, Ys Seven, Chrono Trigger, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky)

    I betted correctly.

    Spoiler

Good call! Yeah, she sure killed it in every contest where she was involved. She may have had the highest BST, but even I was surprised! ?

  9. Whew... It's finally done!

I was acting on an idea I had, where I turn RNG-determined arena battles into a spectator sport; 1 point for every KO, see if a lucky dodge or a lucky crit can turn the tide, guess who will come out on top, etc.

I'm not sure if it's only entertaining for me, or if others might find it fun too, but you never know unless you share, right?

Anyway, this is a competition I call the Great Archanean Battlematch, where ten heroes compete for the title of Hero of Heroes! At any rate, I hope you enjoy.

Came in expecting something serious, but that’s something I would do.

Thank you so much for watching! I do go a little more serious with the Endgame and Epilogue; in Chapter 24, I was still looking for a direction to go in. With how my playthrough of NMotE is turning out, drama and comedy is probably going to be split 50/50.

Edit: Link to part 4 is actually the link to part 5. Also, I was wrong about Merric.

Thank you. It was easy to get mixed up, going back and forth between videos. I'll get to fixing that!

  11. I'm currently working on making my videos more accessible by splitting them into 10-15 minute parts. Here is part 1 of Shadow Dragon, Chapter 24. I hope this makes for a more pleasant viewing experience, and I'll post my other two existing videos as they too become available in multiple parts.

Oh man! These are sooooooo long! I wish I could watch them

Endgame and Epilogue took one month each to make; the former due to technical difficulties that forced me to start over from the beginning and the latter for the sheer amount of scenes I made for it.

Anyway, I appreciate your interest, and I hope you find the time to check them out.

  13. Starting roughly half a year ago, I started doing a playthrough of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Originally, it was just gameplay with subtitled commentary I made for a friend who hadn't played the game, but as I learned more about how to use my editing program, I had more ideas for my project. Starting with chapter 24, I started making some visual novel-like scenes from scratch, to add a more humorous and dynamic aspect to my playthrough (though in retrospect, some of it is a little too silly). I started calling this series OVERpLAY, partly because of the use of overlays and that I'm doing more than just playing a game.

I read somewhere that at least part of Kaga's vision for Fire Emblem was for players to make their own stories, and that's sort of what I'm trying to do with this now; have some more character interactions, show some ways the deaths of some characters have affected surviving ones...

... and also play some things for laughs.

Here is Chapter 24, where I started doing stuff in the "OVERpLAY" style:

I was, admittedly, still trying to find some direction when I made this, and some of the humor, particularly early on with external references, which even I find a little cringy now. Also, in case you're wondering why the dead unit list is so long when the Aum staff is used, when when this was still an LP I made for a friend, I deliberately sacrificed my guys to access the gaiden chapters so I could show as much of the game as possible.

    Here is the Endgame:

This is where I started doing stuff the way I currently am: while still mostly comedic, there are some serious moments too, and I used my additional scenes for the sake of some extra character depth, like Marth feeling the pressure of living up to Anri's legend.

Lastly, here is the Shadow Dragon Epilogue:

I bring everyone back to life for the sequel in an unapologetically contrived way, and make shoutouts to what's to come in Echoes and New Mystery. The very end also lays some groundwork for some of my plans for NMotE, but I'm not saying where that is. ?

    Here is the full playlist:

As I said, Chapter 24 is where I started doing stuff in the OVERpLAY style, but here you go if you're interested in seeing how things got to that point. If you're interested in seeing an expert playthrough, though, you won't find it here. I'm planning on doing a New Mystery of the Emblem OVERpLAY in the not-too-distant future, building a story around the results of an Iron Man run, but for this, I deliberately killed off units for the gaiden chapters and I wasn't above stuff like arena grinding.

Here is an unfinished video showing the progress of my current project, where I set up a little competition between my units:

    It would mean a lot.

  14. I'd been getting started on a small FE8 hacking project, where Halberdier is added to the class lineup. So, using the same procedure as the one used for FE7, I inserted the animations via FEditor Adv.

Then, going to Nightmare, I went to the Custom Animation Editor and set up the animation triggers and pointers accordingly, but when I tried to save it, this message came up:

    custom%20animation%20problem.png

I tried editing the .txt file and added the word, "custom" for the pointers past what the game already has, since I had a similar problem with FE7 in the past, but nothing had changed, so I'm wondering what I have to do to make these edits stick.

Also, I noticed that there is a 255 in the separators which say "always zero," so I'm wondering if I should leave those be, or type in "0" for each of them (I tried doing that to see if that would fix the problem. It didn't.) The answer seems obvious at a glance, but I just want to make sure...

  15. I've been thinking of changing up some of the characters in FE7, but, of course, if I do that, then it would make sense to also change up the support conversations accordingly. I have a guess on how it's done, but I thought I should bring it up in case there's a step I'm missing, or if I'm completely off-base, and even if I'm right, this might work as a tutorial.

Say, for instance, that I want to replace Heath with Farina.

Aside from the obvious story editing required, changing of name and portrait pointers, replacement of the corresponding unit, stat adjustment, and all that, all of which is pretty easy to do, I imagine that first, I should go to one of the support slots including Heath that won't be needed anymore, like his support with Kent.

    supportrearrangement2.png
EDIT: Actually, Farina has a support with Kent already, doesn't she? Okay, this might not be the best example, but I'm too lazy to go back and take more screenshots...

In cases like this, where the replacer and the replacee have supports with a common character, all that needs to be done is to change up the text pointers.

Next, I reference one of Farina's existing supports, like her support with Hector, and take note of the support conversation text pointers...

    supportrearrangement1.png

Then I go back to Kent and Heath's support slot, replace Kent with Hector, and replace the text pointers...

    supportrearrangement3.png

    Now for the paired endings.

I go to one of Heath's paired endings slots that will no longer be needed, like his ending with Priscilla...

    supportrearrangement4.png

Next, I go to the paired ending I'll be replacing it with, namely Hector and Farina's ending, and take note of its corresponding text pointer...

    supportrearrangement5.png

Finally, going back to Heath and Priscilla's slot, replace Prissy with Hector, and replace the text pointer, and there we have it!

    supportrearrangement6.png

Granted, depending on how many supports Heath has, I might not be able to switch over all of Farina's supports without doing something complicated, but whatever.

So, is my guess correct or close, or am I forgetting about something, or am I wrong altogether? If so, what's the right way?

  16. if it's between 0xD00000 and 0xE00000 it's free, provided you haven't written anything into there yourself

Okay, so as long as nothing has been added to an area, it's free game, as long as it's an offset between D00000 and E00000. I guess I'm starting to feel a bit more at ease.

In the map sprite insertion tutorial, I learned that new sprites can be written into areas like these:

    freespacequestion1.png

However, does it also work in areas where the entries (for lack of a better term) are in reverse, like these?

    freespacequestion2.png

Just out of curiosity. I really don't plan to add in that many new map sprites. I just want to know what places I can enter stuff without ill consequence to the game's functionality. I'm new to hex editing, and I apologize if I'm asking too many questions.

    Also...

    mapspriteeditorlist.png

This drop box only seems to go down to 0x57, which, if I'm reading it right, is the sprite for "Child (F)." For the additional classes, I need to get it down past 0x60. Is it just a simple matter of editing the .txt document, like I had to for the battle animations dropbox, or do I have to input something in the hex editor as well to make it work?
