  1. Fluent Portuguese (everyday language), English (the intrawebs!) and French (relatives in foreign countries).

Can understand and speak decently Spanish and Italian though writing is a bit rusty.

For some strange reason, a colleague of mine says I can speak German diphthongs pretty well even though I have no idea what I'm saying beside a few words...

It's been a while since I learned any kind of language. I'd like to learn Japanese but learning Portuguese and English sign language would have to come first.

  2. Seems like Nintendo didn't take in account their fans for naming...

    R.I.P Smugleaf, Piglit/Pignite/Baycon and Wotter...

Instead, we've got Revolver Oshawott, Solid Snivy, Tepig Boss.

I think this will be the first time I'll be glad Gamefreaks has put the option to rename your pogeyman.

  3. I guess whase means those who have endings in where the text is modified. Ike always has the same ending independently of his support.

is there anyone I forgot? please tell me.

As far as I know, you got them all.

if I use any of these characters, I'll need to have them have the special ending, if I don't, I lose.

Will you use their partner too? iirc, having Leanne and Naesala reach A support implies using Naesala on Endgame (deploying, at least).

  4. What the heck?

I can't remind what was its nature (probably neutral) but this set won me at least 3 paintings:

    ~Sunny Day

    ~Flamethrower

    ~Destiny Bond

    ~Explosion

A combination of Destiny Bond in the 4th turn and Explosion in the last nets you at least 20 appeal points, usually enough to beat the competition. The other turns were a mix of Sunny Day + Flamethrower. I remember one painting using diferent moves but I don't remember which one or which moves I used.

EDIT: Besides, it's hilarious having a Koffing winning the Beauty and Cute contests XD

  5. is there any diff between a hacked shiny and a legit one, i.e. any way to tell?

It depends if the hacker is lazy or not. Most of them will have illegal IVs spread and the wrong trash bytes, thus a program that checks for those can identify those shinies as hacked pokémon. Some other hackers are more careful and normalize the pokémon making them virtually 100% legit.

after chaining do the odds get reset if after 40 of one pokemon you go to a different one and then come back? just curious.

Yes, the odds reset. They reset each time your chain breaks or you change routes and it gets harder to chain them as the number of chained pokémon increases, unfortunately.

  6. i haven't played pearl/diamond yet. do shinies show up for online trades often? just curious.

They do but most of them are hacked thanks to the widespread usage of R4 and other similar cartridges that make hacking a breeze.

Diamond, Pearl and Platinum also offer 2 new ways for better odds at finding shinies. One of them is by chaining pokémon. Once you've chained 40+ pokémon (finding the same pokémon through the PokéRadar 40 or more times in a row, your odds of finding a shiny will become 1/2048). The other method is the Masuda method which consists in breeding a pokémon with a pokémon from a foreign game.

  7. Do you mean Master Ball? Premier Balls are equivalent to poke balls :P.

And looking at this thread, we either have

a: Lots of people who appease the RNG goddess

b: Lots of people who lie

c: The people on either end of the bell curve (given they're the most likely to post about their unusual experience)

d: Lots of people who play pokemon far, far too much.

    Perhaps a combination of a, c and d with perhaps a touch of b.

    Guilty of c) and d)

Anyways, don't feel to bad about not finding shinies. I, myself, find most of them uglier than their normal counterpart.

  8. The problem is that you don't get a painting automaticaly if you win. You need to get a very, very good result on top of winning and crushing your opponents. I managed to get them all with one single pokémon (a koffing) but it's really not worth it, imo.

  9. I got some shinies right from 2nd gen. In 3rd gen, I got a shiny Taillow, Sandshrew, Zubat, Dodrio and Zigzagoon. Got one wild shiny Geodude explode in my face. Encountered a shiny Meoth, Glalie and Bagon in the Battle Frontier.

From 4th gen onwards, I've never found a shiny, not even when I tried chaining some pokémon. I guess it's to conpensate the unreasonable luck (and bad luck) I got in previous gens. :/

  10. Ribbons are pretty pointless, they are only a proof that you won the contest (if those are the ribbons you're referring to). Other than that they don't grant you anything. The only thing you may get, but it's only aestheticaly, is an upgrade to your trainer card color if you manage to get all 5 paintings in Lilycove's Museum.

  11. I agree with both of you wholeheartidly. However, the way I see things is that SR came in response to Spikes. See it as a complement, while spikes don't affect Flyers and Levitators, GameFreaks probably thought of SR for a way to balance things. The problem is that SR, contrary to Spikes, kept its Rock typing in full effect, while Spikes, doesn't apply 4x weaknesses iirc. IMO, this is a contradiction and SR should have worked in a similar fashion to Spikes, by layers, the more rocks there are floating, the harder is to avoid being crushed by them.

This is what I really blame, not the move per se. I also think Smogon and other competitive battlers should have made more efforts in really seeing if SR should really have been banned or not. I can't remember when and how they responded to everyone who criticized the move.

  12. That's why it hasn't been banned, it's even in every tier while Mence isn't. I would blame more the mechanic behind SR of applying weakness and resistance rendering some pokes completely overwhelmed but, then again, Spikes would have to be reformuled too.

  13. Return base power is 102 when your happiness is at maximum.

EDIT: Otherwise, if you really intend to go through with Skitty/Delcatty but don't mind breeding one, breed one to get Wish to recover from the recoil done by Double-Edge.

  14. Salamence over-centralized the OU tier. Every team revolved around it, being it by using it or for countering it. Latias was a good check and moving it to Ubers was probably the final push necessary for Salamence to be banned to Ubers.

Now it's Scizor who dominates OU until the 5th fifth gen is implemented...

  15. Nobody mentions how Eccentric actually makes Ditto viable?

Indeed, possibly the best revenge killer for now with a Choice Scarf facing only a 50% chance of going first if the opponent is also scarfed. I guess we'll see much less pokes carrying moves they're weak against (like Close Combat Lucario).

  16. Legendaries typings supposedely leaked (from Serebii)

    * There are 156 new Pokémon within this generation; 153 within normal gameplay and further 3 event Pokémon (#647, #648 & #649) that will be distributed in a manner similar to Darkrai, Shaymin & Arceus in the previous generation

    * In regards to a few numbers and details;

    #633 through #635 are a Dark/Dragon-type evolution chain

    #638 is a Steel/Fighting-type Legendary

    #639 is a Rock/Fighting-type Legendary

    #640 is a Grass/Fighting-type Legendary

    #641 is a Pure Flying-type Legendary

    #642 is an Electric/Flying-type Legendary

    Reshiram is to be #643

    Zekrom is to be #644

    #645 is a Ground/Flying-type Legendary

    #646 is a Dragon/Ice-type Legendary

    #647 is a Water/Fighting-type Event Legendary

    #648 is a Normal/Psychic-type Event Legendary

    #649 is a Bug/Steel-type Event Legendary

    * In Hiun City, the boats will take you to various islands.

Remember, there is a chance that this will change prior to release of the game.

Seems the idea of Fire/Electric/Ice is confirmed and Ice/Dragon will be the mascot of the 3rd game.

  17. His sword prevents non-wrath critical hits (just like Ragnell and Alondite, and I'm still annoyed they don't do the same in RD)

Ike would no longer fear Thunder magic, only dying if he would be gangbanged by magic users while not being close to his support partner.

Maybe this is a way to not make Ike even more overly broken by IS? Since it's so pointless, I guess they were just lazy to not have to program each character to be impervious to crits if they had Alondite equipped. In PoR it's easier since it's restricted to 3 characters only.

EDIT: I'm eating so many words in my setences it's not even funny...

  18. There's several theories behind it. Some say they were blessed by Yune (hence the black color instead of Gold by Ashera) and that Ashera blessed weapons to pierce those armours Yune had blessed. The biggest flaw this theory has is that Yune, when blessing your weapons in RD, says she'll use Ashera's technique, suggesting that she never blessed anything before.

Another one I heard is that they could be for the laguz (when untransformed) that accompanied Altina, being the BK's Soan's armour and Ashnard's Dheg's. This doesn't hold much ground because it wouldn't really make sense Dheg letting the armour go.

The last one I remember is that there were 3 heroes but they had an army just like Ike and those blessed armors were part of people who fought for Ashera but that were forgotten.
