  1. It's interesting, in theory. We'll see how it works in practice. Perhaps this is a better way to handle weapons, but it seems like the same thing could have been achieved if they'd just kept refining the "old" system.

A unit would use a Steel Sword in Old FE because they're at a point in the game where they can't access Silver/Brave. One of the core elements of Fire Emblem used to be the limited availability of resources. Vertical progression was the entire point. All of that has been thrown out the window recently; taking out durability was a huge blow to the essence of what FE used to be about. Weight was the first casualty, I suppose. For all the people saying it's "static," there's been a huge fundamental change that's been unfolding since FE9/10 flopped in sales.

The thing is that this is not the first time IS is trying something new and scraping established concepts. Just look at FE4. But I totally understand your point, don't worry about that. It's just that we can't know for sure if the new changes are good or bad until the game is out.

  2. So you want female Radiant Dawn Ike? Who tends to be criticized as boring? Although, I do agree in wanting a female protagonist that doesn't have to share a spotlight. Best would probably be...Eirika and I think Eirika has the better character arc than Ephraim so she gets that at least.

Celica too. But I never played Gaiden.

I was thinking more of a character similar to Yang Wenli from the series Legend of Galatic Heroes (Not sure you will get the reference). Any character that has the guts and knowledge to make other smart people look like fools is a badass in my book.

To be fair, this is all my taste. I'm pretty sure a lot of people love the FEs main characters and there is really nothing wrong with that.

  3. Not to start any arguments, but do you mean ANOTHER good female protagonist?

Not really, I haven't beaten FE1~4 yet but most main characters from the FEs that I've played are okey-ish at best for me, including the girls. What I really wanted to say is that I want a FE story completely based around a badass female character without some other character stealing the spotlight.

Honestly, I just want a good main character in general.

  4. Femui was shown fighting in the first Nintendo Direct presentation (note I don't say trailer, she was only shown in a small discussion segment after the trailer)

    I see.

Also, I doubt a game this late in development still hasn't completed the model for its main character.

Sometimes images and footage can be taken from early development stages, but I admit it's unlikely in this case.

Back the topic. I'm not be biggest fan of "Avatar" characters so I don't care much. But I really wouldn't mind a good Female protagonist in some future FE.

  5. I've been lurking around on the forum for ages now. I'm a long time fan of the series and decided to register today just to give my opinion on the matter.

I'm all in for solutions that help newcomers or casual players learn and enjoy the game more. However, in an era where a lot of companies constantly dumb down their games so they can please a larger audience, I'm in constant fear the casual mindset could hurt the main idea of series like Fire Emblem. I'm not saying here that perma-death is the "right way" to play it or anything, but it was one the many reasons a lot of the older fans got into the series in the first place. FE13 already feels heavily affected by this new approach and I don't see it getting better on FE14.

Basically I would love if IS find a way (whether is casual mode or something else) to help introducing the series to a new generation, but without hurting the main idea of the series too much. But that is easier said than done.
