  1. On JD's request, a new post here to notify we've got another chapter up.

We're terribly sorry with how long these are taking . I know JD has already stated it but it's really quite true that her life has only gotten worse, not better. It seems to do everything possible to knock her down and myself, personally? I'm just a forgetful obasan who has to be reminded when it's my turn to clean things.

Seriously I have the memory and attention span of a ferret. When I'm lucky.

  2. I remember reading a month ago how powerful a (nuclear) explosion would have to be in order to completely vaporize a person to ash like what happened to Sigurd here

    The answer is very.

Sigurd wouldn't have felt a thing. He wouldn't have even been remotely aware of it. At the height of Alvis' emotions he unleashed Falaflame and Sigurd was gone.

At least he died thinking it'd be alright, rather than hating Alvis. Also Tyrfing's magical dragon properties are super strong given it survived that... but I can see why he wouldn't want Dia touching it after that! It would have probably been hot enough to burn her arm to ashes!

What's really impressive is how localized the blast was, but we'll chalk that up to ~*magic*~ (Final Fantasy 14 pulled this as well in one of their recent lore sidestories in which a character totally vaporizes another with flames in the same way, armor and all).

As for anti-climatic... well, that's been basically every actual death thus far. Oosawa doesn't draw a lot of death. Yied was even more disappointing in that aspect. You know, aside of how Oosawa made Trabant a lovesick puppy being an even bigger disappointment. :/

  3. One of the running themes of FE4 is also 'this character, had they been born elsewhere, might have been truly good'.

Alvis is a good man born into circumstances beyond his control and forced into a situation he does not want. While he did a lot of awful things and allowed a lot more, it was because there weren't any other options. Remember, his rule was a fair and just one until the Lopt Sect finally revived Loptous through Yurius and things started to fall apart. I feel he is honestly a sympathetic character. He did everything he could to ensure Tyrfing returned to its proper bloodline and to curb the child hunts under the Sects' nose.

Trabant is the same... he is a man with the best intentions for his country and people born into a situation where he feels the only way out is through awful actions. In the eyes of Thracians he was a good and just ruler - until the Lopt Sect wormed its way into Thracia via the Empire. Their manipulation turned him from an idealist to yet another pawn.

And this is shown throughout the series with many of the rulers. Many of them had good intentions but found themselves as pawns in a greater game and this isn't broken until the children are able to rise up and, with no strings attached to them, take back the future.

Even Manfloy is, at his core, a victim of circumstance. He wanted to make a world where people of his bloodline were no longer persecuted, hunted down and slaughtered. He went about this in the worst possible way and set up the downfall of everyone else in the process, but that's the tragedy in this story. Everyone is a victim of their circumstance and bloodline and people who would otherwise be heroes become villains.

  4. You know, based on the design notes, I think manga Trabant is closer to Kaga's intentions than what we saw at the game.

O-sawa has an amazing ability to take already sad moments in the game and just make them absolutely heartbreaking. I think we're in for a hell of a ride.

Personally I feel he's too soft in Oosawa's portrayal. In the games he's obviously very passionate about his country and in that sense he's a great person but he still laughed at their deaths because it was a great victory for him. I don't doubt he has his moments but I'd have liked to see him be a bit more ruthless. This is the man whose passions for Thracia's prosperity overrule everything in his mind, even his public perception. :)

  5. At Dain: It's not the scanner I have so much as it's that my books are binded. The scanner doesn't do well with not blurring the spine, but if I debinded it would certainly look okay. Unfortunately with what it cost me to get all the books to begin with, I'm not willing to spend that much money again just for the sake debinding. A few volumes maybe, but not the whole set.

I meant mostly that Aquantis does have a better scanner that has less edge blur. The black and white pages we do are mostly fine without debinding (save for a few places where oosawa drew a face right down the middle but oh well) but I mostly just want the color pages for my blog archive and such to have them out there.

  6. Is there really a point in spoiler warnings on a 20 year old game though? The manga really doesn't do much differently... although I was going to dub-translate the next chapter for April Fools until reading it and decided that might be in poor taste given that it's one of the few things Oosawa does handle a bit differently.

@Aquantis - I don't know how interested JD would be, but I'd personally love having raws of the color pages to scan in. Our edition doesn't have all of them and although I do own the artbook itself it's still missing a lot of content. Oosawa also likes to have pages completely centered which can make cleaning the colored raws a huge pain in the ass that isn't really worth my time with the scanners we own. If you still have the color files I'd be very interested in touching them up for my blog and a separate post in the thread since some of the art is beautiful. :)

  7. A little mistake happened and we're pretty sorry about that! It happens, life goes on, ashes to ashes (okay probably not the best saying for this fandom but). I'll second that if the file naming is an inconvenience to your organization, please feel free to rename the files for your own personal use. We love when people say thanks or show their gratitude, we really do, but not so happy when people start taking it for granted. I mean, a 'thanks for the effort' would be preferred before asking about something that has already been addressed in the thread.

It's okay though, I'll be sure to sneak in and rename everything with a randomizer and replace the Mega link without JugdralDefender's knowledge. That should make things more interesting! The pages are mostly numbered on the actual pages after all.

I mean someone has to be the bad guy here and I'm the one with practice. :Trabant:

  8. Yeah, basically it looks like for the future we'll adapt the file naming system but if you plan to re-read it might be best to either rename the files manually or read that chapter online for now. Windows doesn't seem to have any issue with no leading zeroes anymore, since as JugdralDefender mentioned it hasn't been brought up to us yet and didn't come up in any of our proofreads. Unless that's what the user on reddit was trying to tell me too but didn't seem to be able to articulate properly. Oops? XP All of us run Windows, so it never came up.

  9. don't worry i understand you're just trying to explain manfroys actions not justify them and i was mainly thinking of arvis and trabant when mentioning villans he influences as well as julius who is the villan i felt sorry for the most.

I wouldn't even really include Trabant as a villain. He's an antagonist for sure, but he's on the other side of a complex series of failed negotiations and wars that dates back to the deaths of Noba and Dain. At least until later on when he lets the Empire kinda walk all over him and Thracia he's really, earnestly trying to do the best for his citizens. Also, a lot of his actions can't be excused by the 'Manfloy forced his hand' until later on. Initially he could have declined to do anything in certain situations but in the end did what he felt was best.

It's just unfortunate for us that we grow very emotionally attached to some of the characters that are in his way (*sobs* not my precious pink haired waifu...), but when you flip the chess board they're the enemy pieces...

I'm quite happy Oosawa made him a bit more sympathetic, even if he can be a huge asshole at times too.

(Ah look, surprise surprise that Yuan is 'defending' Trabbles. ;) )
