So I have just finished my what, 5th playthrough of Gaiden and I just remembered something and that is the final battle.

In the final battle, when Alm gets the killing blow he throws away his shield and jumps all up on Duma's face and kills him. This got me thinking, imagine how amazing this scene could look if they animated it and had voice over and uhhhhh just thinking about it gives me chills.

So yeah. That's about it. Thoughts?

Just wanted to say that a user on reddit just finished Chapter 5 and confirmed everything is still in.

You guys might not believe me since I wasn't able to take pictures of the evidence but Linkmstr actually posted a quick video where he states that he is still streaming Echoes on twitch and that there's a whole archive there. However, the streaming channel is not the same name as his Youtuber name, nor does he give any hints. He just says that it's there somewhere. He then took down that video later.

I'm obviously not gonna bother looking for it but if anyone somehow manages to come across it, please do post it here. I would very much appreciate it.

Then again, I REALLY should just wait.

He was streaming, but his videos were taken down on Twitch too :/ I'll let you know if he's going to publish playthroughs somewhere else.

Oh yeah, sorry for my constant questions, but Naga is referenced a lot in Jugdral too, right? Julia can use her Tome or something?

Yes, and it's actually a big part of Jugdral plot (which takes place before the Archanea saga).

    Spoiler

Julia possesses major Naga's blood, inherited from her mother Deirdre, that's why she's the only one able to use Naga's Tome (and thus defeat Loptyr, which is veeery similar to Grima under so many aspect - there are several theories about this). It's pretty complicated actually. To sum up, dragon blood is a very important matter in Jugdral.

I don't know if I just suck, but the game is actually difficult even on Normal at Chapter 4, albeit I've done minimal grinding. Duma's Tower enemies can be very scary, far more than they were in Gaiden. And it's a pretty long dungeon.

There was someone who got to Chapter 6, and I believe they were playing on Hard too.

Oh! Very interesting to see the first pictures of Chapter 6. Also...

    Spoiler

How does postgame work? Can we still travel in Valentia map, but having both Alm and Celica's parties as a whole army?

Maybe it's in base convos? Apparently, the short supports are not representative of just how much dialogue is in the game (as said by those who have seen the early playthroughs).

Base convos are more like monologues rather than dialogues, if they are the village/street convos I saw in the streaming. Can someone confirm this?

What I found to be more interesting about character development are memory fragments. Those are nice stuff.

It seems that way, I just got to the point where I need to make the choice and Jesse implies that I have to take one of them down to proceed, just like in the original. I imagine the other might be recruitable in postgame or DLC eventually though, if Awakening and If are any indication.

Thanks for the information! I always chose Sonia over Dean in Gaiden. Also looking forward to seeing what DLC stuff is about.

Anyway, can't wait till someone reaches Chapter 6, I'm really curious.

Keep in mind that Echoes' amount of voice acting may not exceed Fates by that large of a margin. Fates boasted double the amount of characters at about 70 total as well as private quarters dialogues with each. Echoes might have more cutscene length (I couldn't tell you) but Fates/Awakening boasts 3D cutscenes which I would assume are more costly. Map design is further evidence of a small budget, reusing maps from the original a la Shadow Dragon. And those dungeon battles with no terrain and each army lined up on opposite side formation. There's also less consideration for character balance thanks to the smaller roster, more restrictions on reclassing, less classes, and skills tied to weapons - not classes.

And finally I assume Echoes will simply be a smaller game than the last two. I don't know what Chapter 6 entails, but I assume that the credits will roll after chapter 5. And I figure if you ran Gaiden on 3DS hardware, it would be about a 20 hour experience, less if you habitually skipped through enemy phases involving tons of missing and summoning - as most gaiden players wish they could do. The series standard is about 30 hours for a first time player. That doesn't even include 3DS' massive focus on paralogues and DLC, Awakening's spotpass content, and Fates' three different versions. I do expect that Echoes' shorter length will be a common criticism unless there's more to the game I'm unaware of.

Oh, and I don't have an opinion with regards to how I or anybody else will ultimately feel about Echoes until it releases. I'm just saying that it's bizarre nature will overshadow the discussions about what it does right and what it does wrong. As seen with the previous entries on 3DS. Oh, and prepare for people to lighten up their general opinions on Fates a year from now. You know they will.

Edit: Oh, and the biggest evidence of low budget is marketing. A lot of a game's budget is spent on marketing. Advertisements, contracting reviewers and journalists to write about your game, etc. Where have you heard of Echoes outside of Serenes and similar unofficial yet dedicated outlets? A few videos on official Nintendo Youtube channels and the Fire Emblem Direct is all I can think of.

Even if Echoes has a much smaller cast than, I can assure you it does exceed Fates amount of voice acting. By far.

As for advertising, I don't think it was that different with other FE titles? I don't remember Fates being much more advertised than Echoes. Also, reviews will come out a few days before release date, like always. The major difference is that Fates was announced in January for a June release in Japan and next year for NA and Europe, it took so much longer. On the other hand, Echoes was announced just a few months before release.

I think Echoes is set to be the most contentious entry into the series as far as who likes it and who doesn't. It's just so characteristically not fire emblem and chooses to pander to neither new or old (old in the international sense) fans. Gaiden breaks free of its predecessor in favor of adopting what was popular at the time (RE: Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest). Zelda 2 did this as well (RE: side scrolling action platformer) and it's still reviled today. Interestingly, Breath of the Wild does this too (RE: Ubisoft styled open world games) and will probably continue to be loved, but that game was also in development for a long time with a massive budget. Zelda 2 and Gaiden are pet projects by comparison, and so is Echoes with its short development cycle and (I assume) smallest budget since shadow dragon. The odds are stacked against it, and I don't blame FE fans for deciding to wait on this game for reviews and more information - it's too much of a departure to put their money down.

Don't know about the budget though. Full voice acting is not a small detail, I believe if the budget was really that small they couldn't have possibly done it. I watched a streaming of the game and there are a lot of dialogues (some supports are short and others are not, but there are also base convos, memory fragment events and obviously story dialogues - and they're not short at all IMO).
Regarding everything else, I mostly agree with you. Like the original Gaiden, this is going to be contentious, it is a very unconventional FE title due to so many aspects. But I don't think the odds are necessarily stacked against it, from what I've seen it's a very solid entry despite its weird nature.

Man, it's refreshing to know how old the characters are for once. No more "technically adult" crap.

I really hope you're right, but I wouldn't be so sure when it comes to localization. Especially since, from what I get, ages are there mainly for the alcohol mechanic (lol). But modifying ages is a gameplay changer, so hopefully they'll stay as they are.

Yeah, unless they aren't in the game for some silly reason.

All the dialogue is there, in text form and voice files.

Maybe they're not somewhere obvious? Also, you might need to trigger them somehow.

Thanks! So we have to figure out how to unlock them. I couldn't even see them in the menu options.

Unless they have something to do with Mila's Turnwheel. I saw there was a Support option (probably to rewatch conversations?), so they might appear there too.

  11. If I were to put Awakening fanservice into a new title, I definitely would've not picked Grima of all things. Just saying.

It's not like they're giving us something completely unrelated, Gaiden and Awakening did have some connections (I mean, Valentia/Valm was there). And it makes sense to give some backstory, which might not be dumb in my opinion (at least for what we know now).

It's ok to dislike Awakening, lots of people do and everyone has their opinion, even I agree it has its flaws. But to say that Echoes Chapter 6 exists just for the sake of Awakening fans... well, I personally don't think so (and even if that was the case, they're just paying homage to the title that saved the whole series, and I can't see it as a bad thing).

Even with this, I can't really get all that annoyed. It would have been nice if we could have gotten more map variety, but that was pretty low on my personal list of things that Echoes needed to fix, and it fixed pretty much everything else, so same-y maps is a decent trade-off.

This is why I'm looking forward to seeing new maps in Chapter 6.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Rudolf and Alm have a cutscene in Echoes, yes, but they still fought in the original Gaiden, just very late. We'll see when this takes place in the remake.

I saw the other cutscenes and

    Spoiler

that battle between Alm and Rudolf is part of Celica's nightmare at the beginning of the game.
