I know you've already said that the vast majority of players don't mind the patch's QoL additions but you really should consider making a 'base' patch with zero additions readily available instead of people like me requesting personal patches. This is the only complete translation patch of FE5 readily available to the public and I don't like the idea that the only readily available patch is making gameplay changes to the base game. I've seen this on numerous sites that this is the patch that gets recommended whenever anyone asks how to start playing FE5. For better or worse, FE5 is not being represented accurately. I know the vast majority of people won't notice or care but still. I might be wrong about this but I think something similar happened with the newer FE6 patch that was also making changes (though vastly more drastic) and that was later separated into two different patches. And Project Naga didn't make any changes either. This patch didn't start off as the intended default patch for FE5 as Project Exile was still easily available and recommended to people (though I don't recall if it too made QoL changes/additions to the game) so it was fine that this was a 'deluxe edition' patch of sorts but that's not the case anymore and this has become the default patch.

I appreciate the work you and many others have put into making translation patches so I'm not saying this because I think this patch is bad or anything. But purely from a preservation point of view, a 'base' patch that accurately represents FE5 as it was intended should  be readily available (including the rightfully derided 'wait command at the top of the unit menu') in my opinion.

Read the thread, a vanilla patch has been in the works for a while and will be released sometime soon.

In my current FE6 playthrough, Marcus is wielding Durandal. In chapter 22. I'm serious.

He's not even just good in the usual "Jeigans can still rescue!" sense. Instead, he's gained enough stats to be a really competent combat unit with the aid of his full support with Roy. Even though, admittedly, he's not my best unit (that honour belongs to Lot), the fact that he can still both dish out and take damage better than half of my elites is quite baffling, to say the least.

Probably my most ridiculously blessed unit ever. I've had blessed units (Matthis carried one of my FE12 playthroughs. Matthis), but a blessed Jeigan? And the best part about it is, it's all recorded. Shameless self-advertising!

WHy. There's Perceval and Alen, and you choose Marcus. I'm not sure whether I'm proud or disappointed.

Just gonna ask, are you gonna use Pugi in this translation, or the more accurate Bhuj?

I feel like Pugi has become this untouchable sacred cow of a name, despite the fact that we have seen the weapon name used in other games and translated into Bhuj(which is an actual weapon).

Bhuj is no more accurate than Vouge or Fuzi. We have no idea what the development team was thinking when they named this weapon. Maybe they just though Pugi was a badass name for an axe.

  4. The only other title you can play for NES/SNES without spoilers is FE3, which I wouldn't recommend. For 1-3, you'd really just be better off playing the remakes. I'd recommend these guides for tips on fe4 though;

Usually you can't add something in a rom without removing anything else, for classes you will likely need to substitute the class/character (ie, change sprites, growth rates, names and whatnot) but you can't add something that was not there in the first place, unless you are pretty darn good at hacking.

Would it be possible to replace one of the unused classes in FE6 with a class from FE8?

I seem to be having a problem.

I saw this post and I thought "hey, why don't I just patch it on my PC and send it to my phone so i can play it wherever." (Keep in mind I've done this with multiple games before) So I get my clean Japanese copy of the game, test it out beforehand to make sure (surely enough it was), I check if its headered or not headered which it was, so then i do the patching process with lunar ips and when i move that file to my phone and open it with my Super Retro 16 emulator, it works.

So you may be asking what's the problem?

After I finished the prologue of the game i decided to take a break. Keep in mind I saved twice at the beginning of chapter 1 (when you're able to move your units). So I come back a little later and to my horror when i booted the game there was no save file, just the new game option. My first guess was something was up with my emulator, so I opened up another game, got to a point where I can save and when I left that game and returned it actually saved. So the emulator wasn't the problem.

My next try was using another emulator, so I used Snes9x+. But instead of it just working and not being able to save, what happened was I couldn't even open the game. So I THEN decided to get another fresh Jap ROM of the game from somewhere else and this time open it in Snes9x+ to make sure. It works. So I do the same exact patching process, making sure everything was right, which it was, but when i finished patching the game and opened it one more time, it didn't open again! THIS emulator isn't the problem either as I not only can open the Japanese ROM, but can open other games without a problem.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm criticizing the patch everyone worked on because in the contrary, it's really amazing from what I've seen so far which is why i want to play it, but it can't be the ROM's or the emulators because of the steps i used to make sure, I even reinstalled my emulators twice. Also I've patched multiple games and played them on my phone emulators countless times so I doubt it's a mobile/mobile emulator problem.

Sorry for the long post, been trying so many things all day and I'm just a little flustered. Any help is appreciated a lot :).

EDIT: If it helps any, unlike other games where just opening them or making save files makes a couple of files show up, (ie. Earthbound.zip, Earthbound.frz when i open that game up.) it never made any files on my phone besides the "Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu (J).zip" file even when opened on the only emulator that works, which is Super Retro 16.

On my android phone I use an emulator called "John SNES". It's of surprisingly of good quality, but it displays banner ads in the lite version, which updated to prevent circumvention of said ads. You can always illicitly download an old release and play it on airplane mode, though

Hello, I tried to apply this patch to a ROM but ran into a problem. Whenever I would try to apply it to the ROM using NUPS, I would get the message "The patch doesn't match the file". I decided to select Ignore and patch it anyway but when I would try to play it on my Android GBA emulator, I would get the message "Unrecognized GBA file". Then I tried playing it on my desktop's GBA emulator but it would not play the game either (it says its an unsupported file). Is there something I did wrong? I'll appreciate your help.

Where are you getting your rom from? (describe, please don't link)

I just find it absolutely hilarious that Trump--and they're still behind him--has done everything in his first 5 months that these guys spent the last 10 years telling us made Hillary disqualifying unfit for the presidency; you can't have a president under FBI investigation, with constant suspicion of cover-ups and criminal misconduct casting a cloud over the White House. You can't have a president who mixes public office with private business and profits off of the presidency. You can't have a president who thinks they can't be held accountable for bad behavior and says one thing one day and another thing the next with no sense that trust and credibility matters; who attacks anyone who has a bad thing to say about her as a  liar and a fraud and a politically-motivated hack. That's why Hillary is THE WORST. Trump's great though. Because...reasons...

It's most likely a foolish partisan double standard, and at worst a sexist double standard. The point is, double standards are stupid and while we waste time arguing to hell over partisanism, the voices of truth are ignored.

  10. I don't know if this has been tried before, but I want to try and make an FE7 ROM hack (or fan game) based on the events of the Scouring, and the origin of the eight legends, or perhaps just allies of the eight legends (if the legends seem a bit to OP to make a game with). There's a decent amount of backstory to work with, but there is also a nice gap for creative liberties, and original story.

    My Skills are:

    * Portrait Splicing

    * Nightmare editing of unit stats, starting items, etc.

    * Menu text editing of descriptions, names, and the like.

I have only really worked on one project before, the Binding Blade Canonization Patch, so I am kind of limited in experience.

Skilled persons I will most likely require for the project:

    * Those with a decent to excellent grasp of event editing

    * Those with a decent to excellent grasp of how and where the game stores code, offsets, etc. Especially with Feditor, Eventiel, etc. This job may consist of inserting the script into the game properly, bug fixing, and troubleshooting.

    * An editor or co-writer for the script

    * Map maker to design maps, and enemy placement, supervisor of most gameplay related subjects

    * Other positions are most likely available besides these examples, I will consider all applications.

I really hope this project amounts to something, but I can't do it without some of the talented people in our community. Thanks in advance, and have fun playing Fire Emblem!

  11. Not trying to break the game here, just forgot to give Owain the merc line so now he's stuck without armsthrift. I know how to change the class using save editors, but my guess is that doing it won't work because Armsthrift is a level one skill. If anyone knows where character specific data is located (hex editor) it would do me a huge favor.

So this might be an unsolvable problem but I have a Chromebook (read: not windows, but chrome OS) and have been trying to find a way to patch FE4. I have a japanese rom and an emulator already (NESbox) but I can't get lunar ips or deltapatcher because they are for windows. It doesn't seem super possible but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I guess I could get ubuntu and try from there but that seems like a lot of memory commitment...

    Thanks!

Just overwrite the OS with Linux.

Gwen solely for the unit select screen, Gwendolyn everywhere else. Sorry for the miscommunication

i should clarify the link Arena is technically functional but it needs work done on the text and the name writing system needs to be unjumbled

    1. It's impossible, because the game reads one offset for all the menus.

    2. I may work on that, once I can actually get back to this project (ASO is killing me)

Thanks for such an in depth response!

for the unit select screen I could put forth abbreviating her name as Gwen if you wanted to make it work, but that's just a suggestion

will definitely play the patch once the numbers patch is compatible with it

Still unable to do numbers patch due to other commitments, and I can't change it to Gwen without ruining the purpose of this hack.

    Two questions

Does Gwendolyn have any technical issues

and is the Link Arena functional yet?

If more names from the website are disregarded in Heroes what will your policy be, change as needed or revert all changes and go strictly on the basis of in game appearances? Gringe's sentiments echo my own after Thea basically threw the names out of the window; at this point if something on the site contradicts something in FE7 or Awakening it is much better to defer to FE7/Awakening at this point, since it seems more and more likely Heroes will ultimately retain the names already localized thus far (including Awakening) in spite of the website names, but afaik this isn't a case for any FE6 characters since Niime and Murdock were corrected. I just worry about the commitment needed since Heroes is going to be in it for the long haul and I don't want the patch abandoned halfway through getting official FE6 names in Heroes if it turns out the website names are horse crock.

can you also be sure to make it compatible with Gringe's companion numbers patch if at all possible?

edit: would it also be possible to have a version of the patch with ONLY the names of characters actually featuring in Heroes changed due to the whole Thea debacle? Could theoretically also make edits to the patch simpler in the future(?).

i still think a functional Link Arena is the biggest priority here either way since it remains the only non functional aspect of the gringe translation so that's what I primarily wrote this message for lol

    1. No, other than the game not being able to fully render her name on the unit select screen (just cuts of 3/4 of the way through). All other appearances of her name render fine.

    2. No, this is a text-only translation hack.

I will change names as needed, I'm pretty flexible with this project, and I'll be on it as long as I have a working computer and demand. Edits to the patch are already quite simple for me, and I will update it easily as new information comes out. I can make it compatible with numbers, I just need to change what I create the patch from. However I do not currently have the time, and I will try to push a numbers compatible release either this evening or tomorrow afternoon.

It's been a long time since I've played fire emblem 6 so forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't Rebecca and Wil already good friends in the story even without taking support conversations into account? That said, Rebecca can die in fire emblem 7, and Wolt will still be born. Yet all the other canon parents just retreat. As long as that wasn't just an oversight, it means she had her kid before her death. I'd say that alone is more than enough to choose Wil over Lowen.

Not to mention Wil is already wearing an outfit nearly identical to Wolts.

Good friends ≠ Romantic relationship. Also they don't wear an identical outfit, just the standard archer sprite, but Wolt has his own palette. However, I may change Rebecca's pairing in the next update.
