  1. I've tried to test which villager picks are the best for a Low Turn Count run, and Archers or Cavaliers are pretty much the way to go on Alm's early route, alongside at least one mage(you need a Mage with at least 8 atk to beat the Leather Shield Merc fast). They get to do combat so much earlier. I dunno if the Merc line makes up for lost turns later on, but Archer is actually a great pick for efficient play.

  2. I've hacked a copy of FE7 quite a bit, and I used the Tutorial killer ups to get those events out of the way. However, it might be some mistake I've done, or perhaps I had a bad version of the the tutorial slayer, but I'm currently stuck on chapter 7 as defeating Heinz(the win condition) doesn't end the chapter.

    How do I fix this?

  3. I want to either change Formshift to work like Wildheart, or replace it as a class skill by Wildheart(the version you can revert from). My hex editing skills and knowledge is very lacking, so I wanted to ask if anyone knows which values exactly I would need to change.

Adding wildheart as a class skill to the other laguz would be neat as well, but my main question is the above

  4. Video game players and Anime fans have a very strong dislike against censorship and the Fire Emblem community is widely both. If you consider that point, the fact that there is such a wide support for the idea of the localization changing and even removing things is a very good indicator that it's IS who should be ashamed. ...or at least extremely embarrassed.

This is just not true- Nintendo fans, and I say that as one, tend to lean towards censorship MUCH more than other groups and especially when Nintendo does it(because as annoying as the nintendrone comments from fanboys of other franchises are, there is a modicum of truth to them- some Nintendo fans are willing to bend over backwards to justify nintendo's decisions, whether they be censorhip or badly thought out online setup- Brawl got a lot of defense despite being nigh unplayable on average internet).

Also, a good chunk of anime fans hate what they call "waifu garbage"(never mind if it actually is garbage) and rag on about how it should never be included in anything ever or taken out of it, so yeah, it's not really true for them either.*

Anime Fans and Video gamers come from all political directions, from extreme right-wing to extremely authoritarian left-wing, and at both ends, and even for some in the middle censorship is seen as a benefit. It's not at all rare among gamers to be pro-censorship.

Also, "If you consider that point, the fact that there is such a wide support for the idea of the localization changing and even removing things is a very good indicator that it's IS who should be ashamed. ...or at least extremely embarrassed."

No, not really. Censorship is always used on so called "uncomfortable" things, so this is absolutely the same stuff that always show up.

I mean, this scenario is almost unbelievable. At least I've never seen anything like that. Those aren't moral guardians who think their children are endangered by stuff they know nothing about. Those are players who love and adore the Fire Emblem series, who see their enjoyment of the games impacted.

I've seen the same scenario dozens of times, this is hardly rare, and there is nothing special about these cries for censorship, they are old hat.

While we are on it, I might as well mention that I am relatively indifferent about the matter because it's the entire direction of a franchise, which except for it's name seems unrecognizable to me these days, that I have a problem with. Stuff like the incest, the groping mechanic and particular gems like Kamui drugging his friends are just some of the most visible symptoms of that direction and I don't care all that much if the localization team is putting a little band-aid on a few sore spots.

*A lighter form of this hate for "waifu-pandering" is usually seen in the FE fanbase, and you yourself show signs of being sorta in that camp with how you feel it changes what the series is about, despite the fact that the games play mostly the same, still feature stock archetype characters(FE7 was blatantly like that for example), it's just that more content is in there now. Some say it's at the cost of story, but FE was NEVER particularly good in that department. It had rare flashes of brilliance, but that was it.

At worst you could argue about the credibility of the franchise.

  5. While this thread is still active, another question:

Does anyone here have a Nightmare Editor that works in Linux?

I try to start up the program using wine(windows emulator), but it just doesn't load...

This has been solved. Nightmare Editor 2 works, it was just a slight issue with Java screwing up.

On a side note... any way to remove the weapon triangle(that's not extremely complicated)? Or will I just have to deal with it?

  6. Comparing the two pictures side by side, there's a notable difference in bulk.

If it weren't for his very feminine face, Hero King Marth could hardly be said to be outright feminine. Almost no hip size. Relatively thick and muscular legs. Noticeably broader and more muscular arms. His upper body is actually more built than it's usually been portrayed as before, it's just very covered up.

Sure, he's not really masculine, but outside the face, feminine is stretching it.

Meanwhile, "Masked Marth" has wider hips, thin and not that muscular calves and less muscular and thinner thighs than Hero King. Also rather spindly arms.

Pretty neat that they look so different.

  7. I'm quite surprised by the shortage of Alm love; ignoring the lack of characterisation typical of the NES era he's functionally similar to Sigurd with the only major differences being that Sigurd has a horse and Alm gets 1-3 range bows on promotion.

And those bows alone are broken enough on him. Also, I'd argue Thundersword Alm has comparable combat with Sigurd (until Tyrfing) even before Alm promotes.

And Ephraim is in a similar boat. He stomps everything from the moment he joins your team, and javelins are absolute murder when he wields them early on. Reginleif is incredible.

Hector can't brag about this due to his low initial speed, though his defense is neat. FE10 Ike would qualify, if not for absolute lolres.

Top 3(unitwise): Sigurd, Ephraim, Alm(no individual order)

Personality-wise: Harder. Gonna think a bit on this one.

  8. I did this class change for FE7 after reading this thread, though I admittedly didn't follow the "class change group".

Notes: I averaged stats like 58% into the nearest multiple of five.

I also made any 0% growths into 5%

    Characters that became notable...

    Sage Isadora(notably bad)

Whoa. I didn't realise how bad she would suffer from becoming a Sage. Her speed falls by 6, and her con goes down to 1! Not to mention how her defenses sink massively...

    Stats:

    HP 24(50%) Mag 11(50%) Skl 12(30%) Spd 10(50%) Luck 10(35%) Def 4(20%) Res 6(40%) Con 1

    Wyvern Rider Rath(notably good)

He lost 1 skill, everything else improved. And his new growths are wacky...

    Stats

    HP 29(100%) Str 10(70%) Skl 8(45%) Spd 10(45%) Luck 5(30%) Def 11(20%) Res 2(25%) Con 11

    Exept, this is FE6.

Which I know. I simply showed some of the results I got from something this thread inspired me to do.

  9. Yeah, General Gilliam is better than GK Gilliam. must have thought a bit wrong about that one.

I still stand by going Paladin over GK, as long as speed isn't screwed. Though Amelia is short on MT so she just may need those Axes. But that's simply because I like having a mobile team, so I may be a little biased.

  10. Ross: He works well with the Warrior class but he gets a speed bonus as a Berserker. That innate crit bonus is freaking nice. Plus he can move on just about any terrain. As for the Ocean Seal, so? You get a Master Seal a few chapters later. Whats wrong with using that? Or if you have a bunch of change lying around, you could always buy another Ocean Seal if you are feeling bold. No problem there. That Ocean Seal i get first goes to Colm anyway.

And thus, Berserker Ross gets a level loss compared to Hero Ross. Now Hero Ross not only wins defense, but will probably have the offensive edge, too.

And Warrior is not in anyway near equal to Hero. Hero is faster and gets a much better backup weapon, while being equally strong.

Gerik as a Hero never works well for me. Ranger gets bonus move and i like that. Plus he gets better res even though his res is kinda shitty to begin with.

If it were 8 move, like the Nomad Troopers got, that might have been the case. However, he gets only 7 move(lol at rangers- nerfed Nomad Troopers). 1 move will never ever beat out that 1-2 range.

Garcia as a Hero sucks. Speed or no. D:

Garcia sucks whatever you make him, lol. But he is a lot better as a Hero than a Warrior.

1 more HP, equal strength, 2 more speed, 1 less res, 1 less def. Loses two con, but his con is already really high.

Gains C swords, alowing him to equip Killing Edges immediately, as opposed to Warrior, which is stuck with E Bows and Iron Bows.

    Hero Garcia murders Warrior Garcia.

Gerik and Garcia both want to go Hero. Ross goes either Berserker or Hero.

  11. Recruit->Cavalier->Paladin.

compared to cav->GK it loses 2 HP, 1 skl and def and 1 con as well as axes, but gains 2 extra move. I consider that extra move worth more in this situation.

    Ross -> Pirate -> Berserker

BECAUSE ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD PASS UP ROSSZERKER

But really, it's more to address Ross's SPD problem. Ross goes Fighter and he gains no SPD, but gains an extra point of SPD if he goes Pirate and another once he goes Berserker. That's the same amount as Fighter -> Hero gets. But Hero doesn't get the critical boost and Waterwalk. Not to mention insane CON along the route.

Hero gets Swords, which can mean a lot for durability reasons(lol 15 extra avoid) and that extra hit may come in handy now and then. That +2 defense also goes into that.

There's also the issue of Colm wanting that early Ocean Seal to go Rogue.

The berserker do win offense by quite a bit though, as long as he's not fighting a swordsman without a reaver weapon.

    Ewan -> Shaman -> Druid

Other than nearly having a monopoly over Dark, Anima is just very HIGHLY contested between Lute and Sage Artur/Moulder/L'arachel/etc. Dark isn't that bad for a replacement (Better than bows amirite) as well as +2 STR when promoted to Shaman. Druid caps are wtf though: +0 STR and SKL but +3 SPD and +2 DEF and RES. Not to mention Anima AND Staves. Besides, Mage Knight doesn't give enough DEF or STR for Ewan.

Mage Knight Ewan equals Druid Ewan in mag, just saying. It's still a horrible promotion choice.

Frankly, Druid Ewan is overrated. He beats out Summoner Ewan slightly in combat(1 mt, 4 or 5 crit), and only if he uses thunder(he still loses hit). If both uses Flux, the Summoner has better offense.

And Summoner Flux beats the Druid out if he uses anything else than Thunder/Excalibur+it gets the summons.

Thunder is a very slight win, while Excalibur is a big one. However, that Excalibur won't be used until creature campaign, which means it's 1 hp,1mt, 4 or 5 crit, 1 def vs Summons+1 res and 2 hit.

The extra utility from summons>that rather minor stat advantage. However, if you're gonna hand Ewan a Body Ring, he wants to go Druid for Elfire and thus a more definite win battlewise.

Neither Sage nor Mage Knight really come that close to the summoner. The Mage Knight has 3 less AS and only wins mt with thunder(unless he wants to weigh himself down) by 1.

Sage loses 2 AS and 1 con and 1 mag. Even with Thunder, it only ties attack and wins by a small bit in crit.

And since Ewan is gonna be underlevelled anyway, why not give him a class where he doesn't have to worry as much for his defenses, and on top of that gets an extra 10 xp for each Phantom?

  12. There is no such thing as "Better stats" because of the class, I think you meant "Better caps", because the Sage promotional gains defeneatly suck, he isn't doing much better. Why does he need better caps anything? He's double anything and gets much more usefulness in this ame for having Slayer.

Better stats because of the class he promotes to do indeed exist, promotional gains lol.

But those AREN'T better stats, not even in promotional gains:

    Level 20/1 Bishop Moulder:

    HP: 34

    Mag: 12

    Skill: 15

    Spd: 15

    Def: 9

    Res: 11

    Level 20/1 Sage Moulder:

    HP: 35

    Mag: 11

    Skill: 14

    Spd: 15

    Def: 9

    Res: 12

As you can see, the only stats the are above Bishop Moulder's are HP and Resistance, but just by +1.

That isn't having better stats, you know. Slayer totally makes up for his low magic, despite anima having slightly more Mt it doesn't make him much stronger.

You'll also see the game is filled with monsters slightly after he promotes. Sage Moulder is just a waste of Elfire when you could buy him a normal Lightning as a Bishop and kill anything along your path, it's also a waste when you could have Sage Artur who makes a much better Sage due to higher magic and resistance, he will also promote earlier.

Wow, you're right. Must have looked at the wrong promotion gains. But that instant Elfire is worth a lot more than you think.

It has no AS loss, and allows him to do 6 more damage versus lightning against non-monsters- 12 if he doubles.

Lightning with slayer only beats Elfire out by 2. You're better off using shine, which has 4 less MT than Elfire but gets 8 more mt than Elfire if slayer is active.

I still want to see a list of the enemies. If there's very few enemies that he'd be useful with Elfire against, he's better off as a Bishop.

  13. Could've sworn it was permanent. Well, scratch that then, SM all the way.

"On occasion, the Assassin will perform a special lethal attack, in which they will defeat an enemy in a single attack, regardless of HP and Defense. This skill is known as Lethality. An Assassin's Critical hit has a 50% chance of being a lethal attack. Lethality can even be used on bosses (except final bosses), but with 25% of the Critical hit rate rather than 50%. Also when an Assassin activates a lethal attack the experience they gain from killing the enemy is roughly double the experience they would of earned if they had killed the enemy through normal methods."

    From the fire emblem wiki.

Yeah, seems like SM is the way to go.

  15. I don't think that people know that Assassins get an EXP boost. I saw someone (RFof?) do a comparison, and at identical levels, SM Joshua would get 20 EXP from an enemy while Assassin Joshua would get 46. Marisa and her underleveled self would probably get >50 EXP per kill, which she'd just love. Until she wasn't underleveled anymore. Then she'd be getting ~40. And it's not like Marisa minds the STR cap. That's the only reason I see Joshua wanting SM.

Edit: Oh, and why do people say that Ewan should go Druid? I mean, unless you're tower abusing him, Summons will be way better than his own offense, and he still gets staves.

I knew they got Exp boosts, but from what I heard, wasn't that only if they killed the enemy with Silencer?

If this is a permanent thing instead, yeah, Marisa is definitely gonna want to be an Assassin due to faster level growth.

A similar case could be argued for Joshua- he definitely isn't short on critical even without that SM boost(lol supports).

I think I heard something similar about Bishops, though.

And yeah, you're probably right about Ewan. Too bad his summons are worse than Knolls, but still.

What find weird is how people talk about how awesome Druid Ewan is with Flux... Summoner Ewan has the same con, same spd, same mag and more skl, so he uses Flux BETTER. Their only stat differences otherwise are that the Druid has 1 more HP and def, while the summoner has 1 more res.

Druid Ewan should be using Thunder, which has 1 more mt than flux anyway. :P

But seriously how much 1 mt worth? More than those summons? Hardly.

Elfire takes away 2 AS from Ewan, and beats out summoner flux by 3 mt. That means he may actually lose his doubling, though.

Once he hits S Anima, Druid Ewan will obviously slaughter Summoner Ewan in battle power- same AS as Flux Summoner(who doesn't really want heavier tomes), and 11 more MT- and that is before super effect vs monsters.

But Druid Ewan will not hit S anima in the storyline without MASSIVE BABYING.

And for ewan to take the anima rout means he either:

    A. Mage->Sage: loses 2 spd and 1 con, 1 mag. Ewan may need that speed. Mage Ewan will beat out Shaman Ewan slightly, though(2 more AS, 1 less MT).

    B. Mage->Mage Knight: loses 3 spd, but no con or mag. Needs that speed. Arguably better than Sage Ewan though, with superior mag and movement.

    C. Pupil(2)->Sage: loses 4 spd and 1 con but no mag. Horrible choice. Also, Shaman Ewan>Pupil(2) Ewan.

    D. Pupil(2)->(Super)Pupil: loses 3 spd and 3 con, but gets 1 more mag in exchange. Yeah, this one is horrible.

Yeah, I'd say summoners utility>Druid's not that impressive battle advantage, at least before CC. I'll edit my post to reflect that.
