  1. So for some other stuff from the datamine:

    Spoiler

There have been some textures extracted from the game that would appear to indicate that we are getting three new Relic tomes (Timoetheos, Charon, and Lamine). Additionally there are a couple of new Sacred Weapon tomes including Cethleann and Noa. And there are a few other tomes that look like they could possibly be personal weapons. So it is possible that every character could be getting a persona weapon of some kind.

Arval (M) and Arval (F)? So what, the answer to what is Arval's gender is actually "both"? Based on Shez's gender, maybe?

    Spoiler

They are two different units. It is currently unclear how the two of them work, but I suspect Arval's gender being based on Shez's gender is likely.

Do we have any idea what the "apex skills" are?

And do we know how Breaker skills differ from Buster skills?

Apex (weapon type) - Increases critical hit damage when equipped with a (weapon type).

(Weapon type) Buster - Grants one tier greater advantage against enemies equipped with (weapon types)s. Increases damage to them by [0:NUMBER]%. (Number determined by rank)

(Weapon type)breaker - Effective against enemies equipped with (weapon type)s.

Buster skills have multiple ranks with normal classes going from 1-4 (80%-100%?), unique classes appearing to get 5 (105%?), and ranks 6-10 seeming to exist in the code but unused.

Breaker's description isn't really helpful, but I would guess that it means that it increases your advantage level by one level.

  3. The person putting together the datamine has finished working on it till release. I've finished doing the analyses that I was looking to do, so nothing new from me.

Here is a summary I wrote on Gamefaqs about all that we know from the datamine:

    Spoiler

    General Findings
Each route has at least 15 chapters and 1 interlude (unclear how or when this is used). In addition to those chapters, there are 6 chapters that do not appear to be affiliated with a route and a seventh chapter that is an "alternate path" of one of the six unaffiliated routes. Images of the chapter title screens have been found and they include 1 for the prologue, 3 for the house routes, and 1 unknown one probably related to some or all of the 6 unaffiliated chapters. A final note on this, there are four versions of the Awakening song in the files. Three of them are named after the routes, the fourth is named Dark Dawning, which seems consistent with the tone of the unknown chapter title screen.
    Chapter title screen images:  https://imgur.com/a/QTZ6BXi

New Game+ is confirmed. Carry over appears to include levels (selectable on a per unit basis?), support levels, items, gold, and class levels. Additionally the renown shop can get additional items (presumably via NG+). These items include crest items, equipment, unlockable units, and an item that instantly conquers a region. We have no info on these items besides they exist.

Dancer is confirmed to be in game as there is a system message for when you unlock it. No details about how you unlock it are currently know. It is a Master tier class.

Characters appear to be recruitable in more than a single route as some characters have ages listed in their profile data from multiple routes. The current assumption is that if a character has a 0 in their age for a route, they are not recruitable.

There is class data in the demo for Hero, War Monk, Dark Flier, and Valkyrie. However no character has any learned abilities with them, so they do are not likely for release. Other classes that are included in the data without learn sets include Rufus's Prionsa class, Shahid's Gurgan, and Agastya.

    Playable Characters
Based on the data that is currently available, the following characters appear to have most if not all of the assets necessary for being playable including a head model separate from their body model, personal abilities, profile date including age, and learn lists. Some of them are missing a map pixel head meaning they do not have 100% of the data in the demo. I am including anyone who was not shown in a trailer and was not playable in the demo.

    • Seteth
    • Flayn
    • Catherine (lacking a pixel head in the extracted sprites)
    • Jeralt
    • Rhea (has pixel art in data, but not used if hacked into party)
    • Holst
    • Sothis (lacking a pixel head)
    • Arval (M/F) (lacking a pixel head)
    • Gatekeeper
    • Regarding Arval, currently Arval has two units in the code that have learn lists. One is male and one is female. It is not clear at this time whether Arval's gender is variable (e.g., based on Shez's gender) or if one of the two is not intended to be unused.

Additionally the following four characters have some of the necessary attributes (mostly just a separate head and body model), but are lacking the attributes the above characters have. Looking closely at their ability learn lists, they seem to have mostly default lists as they have not been adjusted to remove abilities from female exclusive classes. Additionally, they are lacking any ages in their profile data suggesting they are not recruitable on any route.

    • Hanneman
    • Cyril
    • Alois
    • Gilbert

As a final note, Anna has been identified as having an ability learn list by spells on one of the unidentified characters in the datamine, but like the above four, it is mostly a default list as it still includes male exclusive classes. Additionally, there are no units currently in the files that have her Crest of Ernest.

    Preferred Classes
Looking through the learn list, I was able to figure out every character's preferred Advanced and Master class based on where they learn "Apex (weapon type)" and their Breaker skill. For most characters they learn Apex in their preferred Advanced class and Breaker in their preferred Master class. For characters with unique classes, they learn their Apex in a class that uses the same weapon type and Breaker in their unique class.

    Sword Classes

    • Swordmaster -> Unique (Shez, Byleth, Rhea)
    • Swordmaster -> Mortal Savant (Felix, Catherine, Holst)
    • Assassin -> Trickster (Petra, Yuri)

    Spear Classes

    • Paladin -> Unique (Dimitri, Jeritza)
    • Paladin -> Falcon Knight (Ingrid)
    • Paladin -> Dark Knight (Lorenz)
    • Paladin -> Holy Knight (Ferdinand, Sylvain, Leonie, Jeralt, Rodrigue, Gatekeeper)

    Axe Classes

    • Fortress Knight -> Unique (Edelgard)
    • Wyvern Rider -> Wyveryn Lord (Seteth)
    • Warrior -> Wyvern Lord (Caspar, Hilda)
    • Fortress Knight -> Great Knight (Dedue)

    Bow Classes

    • Sniper -> Unique (Claude)
    • Sniper -> Bow Knight (Bernadetta, Ashe, Ignatz, Shamir)

    Tome Classes

    • Dark Mage -> Dark Bishop (Hubert)
    • Bishop -> Dark Bishop (Linhardt)
    • Bishop -> Gremory (Mercedes, Marianne, Manuela, Flayn)
    • Warlock -> Gremory (Dorothea, Anette, Lysithea, Constance, Hapi, Monica, Sothis)
    • (None?) -> Gremory (Arval(F))
    • Dark Mage -> (None?) (Arval(M))

    Gauntlet Classes

    • Grappler -> War Master (Raphael, Balthus)

    No Preferred Class

    • Hanneman, Cyril, Alois, Gilbert, Anna, 3 unknown characters that have data between Holst and Sothis

I guess I might as well also post some mock-ups of the full class charts based on a combination of Japanese screenshots and the info from the datamine. Used the sprite images from the Three Houses class page here, so don't take a character's inclusion to mean they are playable.

To be fair, that scene appears to happen around the same time byleth zips in and out of time in the last trailer. Who knows, maybe they divine pulsed to fix their sword.

Those are different fights. The fight from the first trailer is inside a volcano. The zippy fight from trailer three is in a foresty area with ruined forts in the background. I guess you can't completely rule out Divine Pulse to fix the sword, but it being destroyed is probably meant to set up Byleth getting the Sword of the Creator.

  5. 8 minutes ago, Fabulously Olivier said:

Byleth has a new sword. Which brings up an interesting question. Will they get the SotC and how will it be handled? Presumably, they'd absolutely want to make the whip sword Byleth's preferred class moveset, but how do you do that with the ability to change weapons?

Do you give every weapon in the game an alternative skin just for Byleth? Do you do a dual-wield situation like Shez where the SotC is the moveset, but isn't what you equip and doesn't determine your weapon durability (this is what I'm leaning towards)? Or do you just flat out lock Byleth's weapon on them?

O.o What new sword? That is the sword Byleth has been using in all their duels with Shez in the trailers (minus the pre-time skip beat down). You can see it getting broken by Shez in the announcement trailer.

As for Sword of the Creator, my thought is that Enlightened One (and Silverheart?) will have two movesets. The first is for using normal swords (reuse of the Swordmaster style?) and the second is exclusive to the Sword of the Creator which goes full in on the Swordwhip thing.

I think people are overthinking that renown shop recruitment method, and that it'll actually be used to recruit anyone you've already recruited (or alternatively characters from other houses).

Eh, there is some significance to some non-student characters having ages in the Academy phase despite not being recruitable in it (note that it isn't because they have ??? as an age as Seteth and Flayn have a 0 for the Academy phase despite having ??? as their ages). If it isn't that they are Renown shop recruits, the only other thing that comes to mind would be that "Dark Dawning" involves a random slection of characters going back in time to stop a fully awakened Arvis from killing Byleth during the original Shez/Byleth fight to stop Byleth from ruining Arval's plans in the future (with an alternate version where you play as Arval for the "bad" end?).

    ...

I can't actually say that is impossible, but I think Renown Shop units is the just a simpler explanation. 😛

Does this confirm rhea as playable

Based on what we can see in the datamine, effort has been put into making her playable. However we won't actually have confirmation on her status until the game is out as some relevant data for her has been scrubbed. My current gut feeling is that she is going to be a non-story bonus character that you can recruit from the renown shop in NG+. However that is only a guess.

As a random comment, I noticed that Mercenary to Swordmaster branches off to the side instead of going straight down. I would guess there is a hidden "Hero Class" slot there, as unique classes seem to automatically shift the tree around when necessary instead of taking up an invisible slot.

With the info we currently have, the odd shape of the Swordmaster branch is probably to make space for Dancer. It can't be Hero because Petra wouldn't qualify for it and we can see from the Edgard class tree in review 1 that there isn't reserved space for classes you don't qualify for (e.g., the entire grappler line).

  9. 1 minute ago, ciphertul said:

Not gonna lie that is a sad set of preferred classes.

But there you go, credit goes to this user.

I feel it only really has two big issues (you can probably nitpick a lot of the individual placements). One is that there needed to be more Master tier mage classes and two they should have made more Dark Knights to increase the variety of preferred lance classes.

  10. So it was pointed out to me on another site that there were apparently a couple of Japanese reviews last week that showed some interesting screenshots.

    Review 1

Partial Screenshot Translation of Review 1

    Review 2

Partial Screenshot Translation of Review 2

Some highlights from these reviews include showing the full  Myrmidon, Soldier, and Warrior trees, including showing how unique classes fit in, showing what appears to be a paralogue (Dorothea and Manuela), and a tactical option to persuade Mercedes to join.

In regards to the datamining, is there any reason to believe either Trickster or Mortal Savant might have magic enabled? I was considering one of these paths for Linhardt.

The info posted on the document does not provide any indication of what classes have spells enabled as far as I can tell. I would assume they do since they all the other classes have been fairly faithful and we know that non-mages having spells is a confirmed thing because Fluegel gets them.

Hero Holst in the character icons

    ?

    Spoiler

I don't see a Hero Holst in the icons. He has three NPC icons, an unarmed one, an armed one, and one in a stupid hat. The stupid hat is part of the Swordmaster pixel art. The other two are probably supposed to be Mercenary, which I recall being his class in Chapter 3 of the Deer route. The outfit is because that is what his custom outfit looks like.

Do we know anything about the emperor/great lord classes? I'm not counting on it, but it would be nice if they changed them to have something to do with the magic/horse talents that ended up feeling kinda useless in three houses.

Also, will they be advanced or master classes?

    Datamine info:

    Spoiler

No info in the datamine right now about whether Emperor gains the access to magic it really should have had to begin with. Probably not though.

Great Lord is listed as infantry.

Great Lord is listed as an advanced class in the datamine. This is probably a mistake though since Emperor and Barbossa are both Master classes. I'm just not sure if it is the dataminer's mistake or the programmer's mistake.

  14. 8 minutes ago, EarthboundAddict said:

Why do we think the advanced classes will be objectively weaker? Would it not be like 3H where a good portion are perfectly fine end game classes on their own?

Well your Buster skill tier is determined based on your class's tier. So Advanced tier classes will objectively provide a worse weapon triangle bonus than Master tier classes. Could some advanced tier classes still be worth using? Maybe, but I suspect you'll usually want that extra damage.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Burklight said:

The data mine basically disproves the first one. it has Hero listed as "advanced," so I would take that to mean that merc probably splits off into Hero and Swordmaster just like it does in Three Houses.

The more interesting case to me is an unidentified Master class that looks like an upgraded paladin. Great Knight, Holy Knight, Dark Knight, Bow Knight are all accounted for, and the stat spread says "Master Tier Paladin."

    30   800 5 (+2) -- -- 5 (-3) -- 3 (+2) 5 -- 167 --- --- 18A Cavalry (Infantry) 4: Master

    Spoiler

Pretty sure that is a character unique class. 18A is the same weapon advantage skill as Great Lord. So that means a. this is a spear using class and b. it is not a common class as a normal class would be using Sword Breaker 4. Considering what characters are known to be in the game my best guess would be Death Knight. Second best guess would be a unique class for Jeralt.

  16.

So datamine has progressed to such a point that I think we probably know who else is playable and who is not. Specifically, the datamine has been updated with unit data, and some units clearly have three personal skills, and others do not.

    Spoiler

Units that have three personal skills are:

    • Seteth
    • Flayn
    • Jeralt
    • Holst
    • Gatekeeper
    • Catherine
    • Rhea
    • Sothis
    • 160 cm tall unit assumed to be Arval

Previously playable characters that are have no personal skills:

    • Hanneman
    • Gilbert
    • Alois
    • Cyril
    • Anna

Looking at the data, I am currently inclined to think that Seteth, Flayn, Holst, and Catherine are story recruitable. Jeralt, Gatekeeper, Rhea, Sothis, and "Arval" all have ages listed for the academy phase, so I am thinking they might be the renown unlockable characters. Byleth also has an age listed for the academy phase, so they might fall into that category to. Also possible that some renown characters can also be unlocked via story.

Ties in with the line about fighting for humanity as well... However there's no current evidence for a sword / faith / brawling class in demo is there?

    Spoiler

We have no info that I am aware of of a unique Seiros class. However keep in mind that character's personal classes don't have separate models. The model for Fleugal is just Shez's default model. Likewise Armored Lord is just Edelgard's war phase outfit. So if Rhea had a unique class, she would probably just use the Ceilus body for it meaning there would be no identifiable clues since its abilities were likely scrubbed clean.

Remind me again, in base 3H what letters exist internally for body / head model pairs for non snowflake characters with timeskip designs (iirc Dimitri and Edelgard have extras for their child models)?

I dunno. Based on the naming in Three Hopes, I would assume those were the 'A' outfits, but I don't have access to the files. I doubt they made it hard on themselves to potentially re-add them in. They just aren't there now.

  17. 1 hour ago, EarthboundAddict said:

I don't know if its just me seeing things but after watching the Azure Gleam trailer again, I noticed that Felix has very different attack animations then that of the mercenary class. We can assume he's a swordmaster in this trailer so my guess is that swordmaster will actually have a seperate moveset from mercenary and that the mercenary upgrade will instead be hero

I won't say that is impossible, but it does feel weird since Mercenary's Wisdom and Mercenary's Ploy both work on Mercenary, Swordmaster, and Mortal Savant but not Hero implying that those three are a full line and Hero is the one that is unrelated other than pre-reqs.
