  1. Emma is clearly Leigh, and Shade sounds like Tara Sands (Or a simulacrum of Sonya)

Also treasured hunted this from 4chan, they're all of Cipher's quotes from the final battle but I can't vouch for their accuracy. (I'd have to replay the game to confirm. And my latest playthrough just had me go the point of no return at the Termple of Duma)

    Spoiler

Emma: "I don't know much, but I know this... we will NEVER lose to you."
Randal: "It's no concern of mine who decides to conquer the world. But something tells me you'd take all the fun out of it - and I can't have that."
Yuzu: "What arrogance, to try and seize control of the world. Power is only ever as great as the heart of the wielder - and yours shall falter."
Shade: "We come from a foreign land, so perhaps this isn't our battle... but you've given us plenty of evidence that we should MAKE it our battle."

So far its reminding me about Hyrule Warriors. That's both a good and a bad thing.

It's the same dev team, also both Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors are based off the Dynasty Warriors franchise which Tecmo Koei created. It will be interesting to see all the nods the devs make to Fire Emblem like they did with Legend of Zelda.

  3. A little thing, but is it me, or do Ryoma and Xander have different people voicing them?

Edit: I hope the level up stats are fixed, RNG would be awful for a game like this.

Edit 2: The Devs implied that they're fixed because you can turn off the level up scene. Thank the Gods.

No, I'm not. There are no angels in politics.

Don't let perfect become the enemy of good.

You are right to say that there is no one in politics that is incorruptible, however you then imply that all politicians equally opportunistic and Machiavellian where they will betray core beliefs if it means it helps them get what they want.

With the current political environment, if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Hillary Clinton who colluded with the Russians to undermine the election and act like Donald Trump with his inconsistent explanations and firing the head of the FBI for political reasons. Do you think if the Democrats controlled congress they would stone wall as vigorously as the Republicans, or would they put country first to get to the facts regardless of how it would harm the party?

If Hillary Clinton were president and she did this, Republicans would already have brought forward and voted on articles of impeachment. (And depending on how fair the investigations was, enough Democrats on board in the Senate to vote for conviction.) But since the Republicans need Trump to push their agenda, they're going to try and do everything to deflect from the investigation or try to justify Trump's actions.

The Clintons and Obama aren't angels, but they, along with the Democrats arel lightyears ahead of how the Republicans behave.

This is true for every politician ever, not just Trump. Including the immaculate Barack Obama.

Surely you be jesting. You can believe it or not, but certain politicians put principles like the 'common good' first over ideology if it helps the country. Sadly that's never the case with the right.

  6. Because you can only have a limited amount of games you can streetpass for at any given time, getting data for new games is getting to be more and more of a chore. (Just try and get streetpass data for Monster Hunter Generations in comparison to 3 or 4 Ultimate.)

I'm going to make the assumption that Shadows of Valentia is like Awakening and Fates where you can self pass by plugging the same game cart onto multiple systems. This works because streetpassing is reliant on the 3DS itself, and not the game. So if you have an extra 3DS or a friend with a 3DS and not the game, try using those to get streetpass hits for Shadows of Valentia.

  7. I made things interesting by aiming for Blitzkrieg on my first playthough, so I did it while playing 'blind' (Okay, not blind, I played Gaiden on my famicon so I had a general idea of what to expect.) It was a good way to see how much leeway Blitzkrieg gives to a player if they aren't playing at peak efficiency.

    • It's the first time I played a fire emblem game on normal difficulty since Radiant Dawn. (Allowed for more reckless play, which made for interesting moments like pic related.)
    • I cleared every area and recruited every character. (no stone left unturned)
    • Didn't fully utilize the blacksmith so I didn't have 'broken' weapons like the Killer Bow.
    • I did use The Astral Temple DLC to farm some weapons for everyone (but did not know how the Zodiac shards worked at the time and didn't use those.)
    • I did restart a few times to reduce the amount of +1 levels ups, but only did it if multiple characters got RNG screwed in a single chapter.

I still got it in the end even through all that. So if you're not looking to be fancy by clearing this on hard/classic with no DLC. The only thing you really need to do is make sure you avoid as a chunk of the battles in dungeons since that's where a majority of your turns will get chewed up. Although making sure your characters aren't RNG screwed. It goes a long way in the endgame where a skirmish will be an endless slog if your characters aren't strong enough. (And map design, in conjunction with the fatigue system, makes having a single RNG blessed character solo maps for you nonviable.)

  8. The DLC does help flesh out Fernand greatly. He still is prideful, but didn't have the contempt for peasants like he did in the game.

    Spoiler

A great contrast is how he allowed Clive to negotiate with the traders and focused all his ire on Slayde. And after Clive promised to tell the King of the trader's plight, Fernand only went to question him and how he might not be able to keep his promise after they were riding back to the castle as opposed to how he would  more than likely have contradicted Clive right in front of the traders if the scenario took place in 401. And not only did he decide to hear Clive out, he then pledged his support hum in his promise to help the traders by being there for Clive in front of the king.

You also get to see his interactions with Clare and Matilda via Memory Prisms and see him loosen up a bit, or speak fondly of his family at the start of Battle of Zofia Harbor.

The game goes out of its way to litter hints everywhere that Fernand was a good man before the peasants revolted and killed his family. Which was further pushed along by the fact that Clive, Clare and Matilda still cared for him even after he defected to Rigel.

Frenand is one of those characters that if don't stop and explore the world or just skip over text, it's extremely easy to just dismiss him as an irrational, and haughty character.

  9. In terms of Frenand's backstory, here's the story the Ally Soldier, in the Deliverance's Hideout Command Post, tells.

    Quote

Frenand's hatred for commoners is understandable.

The peasants living on his lands were starving 'cause of the drought.

They blamed Fernand for not providing for them and stormed his manor.

His family died during the attack. ...Truly, a terrible thing.

    3) Republicans are voted out of office in 2018. Democrats win majorities in the House and Senate. THEN we get serious talk of impeachment.

The odds of the Democrats taking control of the Senate in 2018 are extremely slim even if this is a tidal wave year for the Democrats. That's because they have to defend a whopping 23 seats compared to the Republican's 9. To add to that, the two independents in Senate who caucus with the democrats are also up for reelection so that brings the amount of seats that Democrats need to defend up to 25. Then taking into account where democrats have to defend themselves in red or purple states like Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia and Florida, and that this is a midterm where along with Republican voter suppression laws that are going to be pushed even harder, democratic turnout tends to be more suppressed. Is it still possible? Yes, but it would be improbable like Trump winning. Reacting the House, which is still a difficult feat because of how Republicans have gerrymandered so many house districts in their favor. Possible to retake? Certainly in comparison to the Senate. Although there are still a lot of variables in play. Such as the Democrats deciding they should readopt Howard's Dean 50 state strategy that they abandoned after Obama took over the party and oversaw crushing losses in the local and state levels of government, not just Congress.

As for the even seriously entertaining impeachment, even if Democrats take both houses of congress, that would still not be enough. Impeachment requires a simple majority to pass in the House. That only moves it to triall in the Senate which requires 2/3rds to vote in vote favor conviction to remove the president from office. (This is where the Republican's attempt to remove Bill Clinton failed.) So it's going to weigh heavily on Special Prosecutor Mueller's report on Trump's collusion with the Russians in regards to their attack on the US election to force Republicans to put the country ahead of their party.

  11. I managed to beat Jedah in Chapter 4 in my first run through the game and I didn't grind up any of characters to their third tier promotions. But don't look for me to submit an ironclad strategy because I was playing on normal (to get the Blitzkrieg medal) and Celica was RNG blessed. Her attack crit which resulted in an OHKO and I got to end the battle itself in 3 turns.

Okay, maybe that is a strategy even if you are at the mercy of the RNG. Find whoever your heaviest hitter is and see if they can get a decent critical chance, or give them a weapon that affords that. The only other option is to get long range attackers to widdle down Jedah's barrier and wage a war of attrition while hoping you aren't overrun by self multiplying eyeballs.

  12. In terms of Fernand, the reason he acts the way he does was based on his upbringing and past. He was raised a noble, and believed he was above peasants. But what really influenced his character, and is easily missed, is that due to the famine in Zofia, the peasants on Ferand's land blamed his family and it deteriorated to the point that they stormed his family's castle and killed everyone but him. So his resentment and biases towards peasants is quite understandable.

However if you don't catch that little piece of information and just base your judgement solely on your interactions with him in game, it's very easy to see him as just an arrogant man who beliefs of aristocracy trumps all.

    Spoiler

The real question is if Alm weren't born of royalty, would Fernand still be at peace with Clive's decision to make Alm the leader of the Deliverance and with Alm himself while he was on his deathbed with the understanding that actions, and not birthright judge a person's character.

  13. Doubt anyone remembers me unless you're also a transplant from older Fire Emblem forums circa 2004 (Only one I recognize here is Vincent.) From the looks of it, I take it Serenes is the last major Fire Emblem forum standing. So, any old timers here want to fill me in on the nitty grity of what's been happening for the past 5 years (Other than Fire Emblem's popularity explosion with Awakening.)

And while staying is tempting, after reading a part of the FAQ, I fear life here may be a little bit to... Binding for someone used to the lawless of the 'Outrealms'. And I never bother to read the rule page anyway.. So, we'll see how things pan out.

Anyways, to new and old members alike, hello.

  14. Shit... The trolls of GameFAGs have insta-access to here?

What me to set you up with /v/? Although I'm just a tired old man now considering the achievements I did.

Me? I was just looking around for Fire Emblem info sites. As for the forums, it's one of the only Fire Emblem forums I haven't been banned from.

  15. Mine's not on there.......Leila...

She was a thief with an Assassin sprite, probably because you wouldn't look like a good double agent with a sack filled with loot over your shoulder.

Besides her battle sprite was a thief, ergo, she was a thief.
