People can't save money for an entry-level gaming PC? If they can't afford that, how can they afford consoles in addition to $40-60 games?

Because unlike a gaming PC, a console + games doesn't require you to pay that much /all at once/. Thats just simple sales marketing that creates the illusion that its cheaper, when consumers will actually pay hella more in the long run. Kind of like leasing, in a sense.

Tho that's just one reason. There are other reasons that exist (dumb in hindsight, but still do), but in my opinion, thats the main barrier
