  1. - In early game it's worth focusing on only a few characters so their stats are high enough to take some hits and do some damage. By middle of part 1 you should try to level up the remaining properly though, for chapter 13.

    - I'm not sure if the sacred boosters (released alongside the Maddening update) are free for everyone. If they are, then those are your life saver in early chapters.

    - Tempest Lance is your friend.

    - If you play BL then Dedue and Annette are your early game saviours.

  2. I love how it makes magic users different. For example, Sylvain would have been useless in my BL only run had it not been for him being the second physic user besides Mercedes.

This means it will be unfair to some units not to have the best spells, but I feel this is a worthy trade-off for variability, otherwise all units will become just stats sticks. Plus it's fun trying to make your favourite unit viable.

  3. So I recruited Shamir a few chapters after Cyril and she is 1 level lower than him but beated him in most stats with an A rank bow to boot.

I'm so salty. I thought my Cyril was rgn blessed when he had 6 stats increased every level, but apparently that base is hard to salvage...

Anyway, I've never used Cyril before this run so just wanted to ask if it's worth keeping him in the long run?

  4. Crap I'm stuck at chapter 5. Dimitri accidentally stood in the range of the archer in the inner room and now I have the whole enemy army chasing after me. And everyone gets rgn screwed. I may promote Mercedes to the front line now that she has better stats than Byleth.

  5. This is unpopular opinion but GD is my least favourite route - maybe Church as well, but I haven't played it yet.  Claude is nowhere as emotionally invested in the war as Edelgard and Dimitri, and it is difficult to resonate with his ideals when we don't have much background on the land he keeps talking about. In the final chapters if you walk around the castle the NPCs literally say something like "Wait, is there still more? When is it going to end?" 🙁I think it's a bit of a wasted potential because GD is the most down-to-earth house, so I had hoped that it would focus more on the sufferings of the common folks for the "faith, hope and dreams" of the nobles, but it didn't unfortunately.

So far my favourite is BL, mainly because I find Dimitri a more interesting character than Edelgard.

  6. I tried hard for for F!Byleth and Claude but pulled out in the end given how disinterested he was with the whole thing. In contrast Dimitri's seemed very natural (tbh, Dimitri is natural with everyone, Felix and Dedue included. Poor dude).

I'll have hard time for BE next but maybe Flayn or Leonie.

Even with the worry of him being on the receiving end of a doubling? Because that was my biggest problem with Lorenz starting out.

I never had much doubling issue with him early on. Plus his Def/Res can help a lot. Maybe rng. His speed indeed became issue later when beast and sword masters started to show up though  lol

Thanks for the good suggestions all! I will take that on board 🙂 I will let you know how Caspar turned out when I finish the playthrough!

Did you make Ingrid go the pegasus knight route? I used Ingrid in my BL playthrough and the GD playthrough. In the BL playthrough she got strength blessed I think because I never noticed how low her strength was (sure she wasn't the heaviest hitter but she got the job done). She was the most effective magekiller and I could send her into a field of mages with a 1-2 range weapon and she would wreak havoc.

In the GD playthrough I also had a lot of problems with Ingrid's strength, to the point that I effectively benched her because she couldn't even ORKO magic users. It might be a good idea to go wyvern route as those classes give more strength.

About Lorenz, I say he's about average. He's a jack of all trades, master of none. He was a perfectly serviceable unit as a dark knight, but not one of the stars.

Yeah I got Ingrid into the Pegasus knight/falcon knight route which didn't  help much. In my current BL playthrough her strength is so low that she can't even kill mages (21 str at level 35, why oh why). Her only redeeming stats is speed (39!!), but doubling doesn't help when you do nil damage. I remember she was a bit better in GD, but by the time she went on the scene Claude was practically soloing the game.

Lorenz is indeed jack of all trade. I think his usefulness depends on your play style. Early game when Claude can't fly yet, I love having Lorenz occupy a chokepoint for Leonie to sneak on enemies from behind.

  9. Can someone explain why Ingrid is often so highly rated? She is the worst unit in my BL run, her strength is so low that she can't kill a thing and Frozen Lance doesn't help either.

My favourite unit is Lorenz. His balanced def/res stats makes him the only unit I can throw to a bunch of enemies with no worries early game. And he normally gets the job done too, thanks to his Reason skills. That said he falters in part 2 - outshone by so many.

  10. I only completed GD hard classic but it must be the easiest route. Most of his house are quite competent and can dodge or tank a few hits, although all of them became redundant in part 2. Towards the later maps my "strategy" mainly consists of Lysithea's warp and Claude's killer bow in 3 turns.

Have no problems with BL so far either. Maybe BE will be more challenging because it seems they don't have many outstanding members apart from Edelgard.

Hopefully they will fix the difficulty in Lunatic mode ...
