The problem I have with this is that TT's always have a banner of their x1.4 bonus units. And I assume those four would include some new heroes. But the New Heroes banner overlaps with the TT.

I initially thought they have the brave heroes as bonus units but that will now likely happen for the mini TT. As for who are the bonus units for the regular TT they never introduced new units for TT so if it is indeed PoR themed we could be looking at a selection of four from Ike, Mist, Soren, Titania and Sanaki.

Arguments can be made against Sanaki since she was introduced as being a RD character and not PoR but I could also see them not chosing Ike since he has been in so many banners lately. Then again, people probably still would spend money on Ike. But then we have just the same banner we had when these units were introduced.

In conclusion they have to break some pattern here.

  2. I feel like the mini tempest trial could be Brave Heroes related since it starts the day the browser game ends and ends together with their banner.

I thought for sure we will have a TT on friday with BK as final boss but looks like that one is postponed to the one after. Maybe he appears as a boss twice? With the mini final map being the one shown in the trailer? Consider me intrigued about the future :)

Also I'm probably the only one here but I'm glad that there is no BK GHB this month. They should do something special with him. And it seems like they do maybe because he was the top ranked villan in CYL (didn't check that but I guess that is not too far fetched).

  3. "You may have noticed that although Robin and Frederick's classes allowed usage of multiple weapon types in the original FE Awakening game, in Fire Emblem Warriors they will only use Magic and Axe respectively. According to Famitsu, characters in this game will get to use one weapon type from Sword, Axe, Spear et cetera."

There goes my hope of the generic characters actually wielding two weapons. Or anyone for that matter. That would have been so cool if it was like in Hyrule Warriors where you had multiple weapons for characters that played completely differently... I suppose there will be more characters than in HW to compensate for that or at least I hope.

As long as the gameplay is fun I still buy the game but I can't help but imagine what could have been... Like for example Ike wielding swords or axes. Or Lyn with swords or bows. Or Celcica with magic or daggers... Or even Chrom as infantry or cavalry (if Link can have a horse why not Chrom?)

  4. The weirdest thing in the trailer is the disconnect between voices and viusals...

Anyways I'm hoping to see some gameplay soon especially from Robin :) though I'm kind of sad he seems to be only using tomes and not his smash bros levin sword tome combination.

Also: Am I the only one that thinks the art style is not at all that good?

It took a while to remake the new borders and such for the different resolution; simply scaling my own down made things look untidy. Also Boey's special swirls and whatnot made a real mess when I was using the outline tool, so I had to use his basic attack outline superimposed underneath his special art.

Now that 1080x1920 base is made, others of the same size should be faster to make.

    Great stuff!

Thanks a lot that looks pretty amazing! And Boey's special turned out great as well :)

  6. Let's see whether we could put a diverse roster together only using (somewhat) protagonists. I haven't played FE 4/5 so I only know characters that are in FE Heroes from those games. Still:

    Marth - Lord

    Caeda - Pegasus Knight

    Tiki - Dragon

Alm - Hero (with potential of using a bow)

Celica - Magic user (with potential of using daggers)

    Seliph - Lord

    Julia - Mage user

Reinhart/Olven - Mounted mages? (really only going off of Heroes here)

    Roy - Lord

    Lilina - Mage user

Lyn - Lord (again potential bow here)

    Hector - Badass Axe user

    Eliwood - (Mounted) Lord

    Ephraim - (Mounted) Lance user

    Eirika - Lord

    Ike - Lord

    Micaiah - Magic User

Elincia - Pegasus Knight (a long shot I know)

    Chrom - Lord

    Lucina - Lord

Robin - Sword / Magic mix

    Ryoma - Sword user

    Xander - Mounted sword user

Corrin - Sword / Dragon mix

A lot of sword users? I guess. But not much more if you make 3 out of 4 new original characters sword users as well and include Marth, Chrom, Ryoma, Xander and Corrin anyway.

A diverse roster? I certainly say so. With some work put into it everyone could feel really unique. Then maybe throw in Camilla and Tharja to sell copies. Sounds like a good plan to me ;):

(Don't take this post too seriously please this is more me being really upset about the excuse of too many swords and my favourite games (FE 6/7/8/9/10/15) being not represented)

  7. Great now everyone gets their waifus in HD

I can't say it surprises me... I'm only really disappointed that my illusion that IS would actually care for long term fans of the series and not only for the money is shattered again...

The thing that really annoys me though is the bull**** excuse of "too many sword users". Like Ephraim, Hector or Micaiah (maybe even count Lilina or even Soethe). But then make THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS USE SWORDS TOO... I honestly had to laugh when I saw the picture of that third guy with the sword.

Oh well maybe you can customize our FE Heroes-Level of generic Lord protagonists to use another weapon at least. Now they really need to convince me with the gameplay.

I think a number of people are more okay with SoV's flaws just because it wasn't the nightmare that was Fates' story. I haven't played through the whole game yet but even early on you see similar problems that apeared in Fates.

I would be interested in which problems you see as similar to Fates. I personally think that SoV does have problems sure though none have come to mind which are similar to Fates

Ideally, I think a good idea already suggested in the thread would be to keep the scale small and focused. FE tends to do better when its scope is limited to a smaller setting and cast as it allows for them avoid having things get too bloated and overcomplicated. It also allows for more characters to get more involved and developed since then the developers can better distribute their focus, rather then something like Fates where while you had some great characters, but you also had your Peris and Story!Xanders.

100% Agree! Quality over quantity. One of my problems with Fates.

Urgh, that sounds embarrassing (and part of the reason I refuse to watch or read anything from them anymore). Unless there's a mirror of the review somewhere?

I guess you would not want to give them the ad revenue ;)

But I don't know I did watch it on their YouTube channel.

Back to topic I think the best idea would be to have a Avatar with a predetermined name. So people could still pretend they are him/her and ship themselves. As much as I don't want that to be in the next game I understand it sold a lot of copies so if that is the necessary burden to keep Fire Emblem alive so be it.

You could have just made Jedah try to make Duma Great Again so that he'll keep Rigel strong and also get revenge on Zofia for not helping them during a famine (maybe even put a parallel with Chrom not letting Robin kill himself to stop Grima for good). You could have had him trying to turn the continent into one fit for Duma. You could have even had Jedah not do his dastardly plan talk when Celica was looking. But nooo.

This! I feel that would be perfect to make Jedah a more than just evil antagonist. Like he wants to restore Rigel his own way by sacrificing Celica to Duma to rid him of his insanity. That way he would even be more of a grey villan something I really want to see again. That simple change in my opinion could turn Jedah from being a generic villan to a great villan!

Giving the Avatar a fixed name seems the perfect compromise between having an Avatar and full, realistic Voice Acting*.

Since I don't use IGN anymore, what did the reviewer say? I'll get my facepalm ready...

    * If anyone's played Grand Kingdom, it had a neat compromise too: while the subtitles would include your character name the spoken dialogue would be slightly different to avoid saying it, e.g.

Text: "Your squad did a great job, X!"

Dialogue: "Your squad did a great job!"

But I can see that not holding up in dialogue heavy games such as this.

7.8 too much water (though that might actually be one of the complaints I have about the game)

She complained among other things about the fact she could not ship Celica and Saber because the game did not let her.

Honestly watch the review if you want a good laugh (or a good face palm) ;):

Not completely done but the end of the game is pretty much in sight. But I know the gist of the complaints in the later half and even experienced part of it myself and for the moment I'm okay with it. Not impressed but not particularly troubled either.

If late game Celica truly is the worst the story has to offer then it remains a decisive step up from Gooron and Corrin.

I agree maybe the story only seemed so good because the one in Fates was so horrible but I really enjoyed it and it kept me invested until the very end. I also think while the main story is not really spectecular the characters are awesome (especially the early game ones like the Villagers, Mae, Boey, usw...) and I credit a lot of it to how well the writing and voice acting worked together. I really don't need a spectecular story (though I wouldn't mind one) if the characters are unique, multidimensional and have enough dialog (which clearly implies that less is more in that case). So overall I was pretty happy with Echoes story and writing and consider it a huge improvement over Fates.

Never have expectations for stories; you'll be happier that way. Just do what you have to do to make the gameplay experience great; something Shadows of Valentia spectacularly fails at to be quite frank.

I would like to discuss that though that would be too off topic. While I agree that there is some annoying stuff about the gameplay (*cough* caster *cough*) I feel like you could be more specific about what you did not like. I strongly disagree with the gameplay experience being a spectecular failure.

  13. I wonder if they keep voice acting though since I think you would run into problems if you had voice acting and an avatar since nobody will ever mention your name...

I loved the voice acting in Echoes and "breathing new life into characters" (if it is more than PR talk) sounds like they should keep voice acting? Though then the Avatar becomes problematic and I sadly think they would keep the avatar over voice acting. It opened up a completly new fan base of "super" casuals who do not even primarily play the game for the strategy aspect. (People like the girl who did the IGN review of FE Echoes come into mind...)

They could give the Avatar a fixed name and I think at least most people would be fine with it as long as they keep their waifus. Apparently we have to live with the fact that that's a thing and I don't mind it but I think Fates took it a step too far

I'd say that an avatar is only truly an avatar as a mute, as one should generally lack definition outside of what the player desires.

That begs the question: would people prefer an avatar who never speaks but is spoken to, like Mark and Kiran, or a customizable character like Kris, Robin, and Corrin?

edit: Actually, forget Mark and Kiran. Neither are shown very often nor can be customized, so they're really name tags more than anything else. But DO consider your character in recent Pokemon games, in Monster Hunter, Xenoblade X, Elder Scrolls, and like every other game under the sun that isn't Fire Emblem as examples of actual avatars instead of customizable characters.

Please no not as in Pokémon Sun/Moon. That felt really weird when the world around you evolved from earlier games into that colourful world filled with life that is Alola and then whenever anyone is talking to the avatar just have him stare in silence almost never moving any facial muscles.

IMO I like Robin best as an "avatar" because he has a distinct personality. I don't see how they could make a good avatar that doesn't conflict with the player's personality unless they go all out and make every dialog choice matter in some sense...

I'd be happy with an avatar that does have some personality to him/her (even if it conflicts with my own) resulting in fleshed out support converstations and a believable part in the story

That's a pretty good point. She's like a 1,000 years old but she looks like she's 12 or something.

I actually like Nowi a lot even though she has interesting clothing for the way she looks......... she's technically more qualified than anyone to wear whatever clothing she wants, she's a 1,000 years old, dang it!

Yeah I don't know but I don't really mind Nowi either... Maybe that is because they don't shove it into your face

Perhaps they prefer the 1,500 feathers you get for no investment than whatever they can get from actually putting effort into the game.

True that, I guess there are people who are not so invested in this game

Thank you! Fanservice has been in FE since it started, but it was never this ridiculous. And I'm not entirely against fanservice itself, I'm only against it being super blatant and shoved in our faces. Keep it off to the side so those of us that don't want to bother with it don't have to.

What I'm worried about is that it also comes at the cost of character development... Most of the characters are still the same at the end as they were in the beginning ESPECIALLY our protagonist Corrin...

I don't care, I despise her. And I know certain others here that wouldn't hesitate to say similar things about her either. If IS continues making more characters just for fanservice to be shoved in our faces, I won't play FE anymore. I don't play the game for cutscenes with boobs and panties in my face.

And I already told you before, NO. Now stop, please.

I get you for me Camilla is everything that is wrong with the new FE Games in a nutshell... Might be a bit unfair but that is how i see her

Who's ready to get clobbered this morning?

Even though we die, at least we do it supporting best girl and not for feathers or tits!

Isn't it much more proficient to choose any team but Camilla? You're ranking will be worth more than those 500 you get for winning...

I chose Cordelia since she was in my first ever summon and though I never really used her in Awakening she was very helpful in Heroes so far...

Now going with Team Minerva since I really can't stand Camilla...
