@The Unlikely Knight: She can still either go General or Great Knight, the same way you could choose between Cav and Knight at her first promotion. General has slightly higher promotional gains, Great Knight has one more movement point (which makes it as fast as regular promoted infantry units) and a horse, so it can move after doing a non-attack action. Unfortunately, GK also has a weakness to both anti-armor and anti-horse weapons, although iirc they aren't super common anyway.

I was referring to the equivalent upgrade item for Knights above since I don't have it. I didn't doubt I could change her class again.

  2. Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game. I'd known about the series since Smash Bros. Melee, but just never got around to it. When Nintendo and Atlus ran that FE Awakening and SMT IV promotion I decided to try out the demo of Awakening and enjoyed it, so I bought the full game to take advantage of the offer and to play the game.

Took me 4 years to get around to beating it, but the story why isn't that important. What is important is that, despite not being invested in the story, I enjoyed the game. The gameplay was a good way to learn the series, I liked most of the characters (Donnel being my favorite), and I loved the music.

I'm not a fan of the support system being so shiptacular, and honestly I felt the game had some difficulty problems despite me playing on Normal Classic (didn't want to bother with Casual mode because I knew it would make me lazy when playing). I chalk that up to it being my first FE game though, so take the difficulty comment with a grain salt.

Anyway, it was a good game. I'd like to replay it on Hard mode, try out characters I barely played, all that jazz.

  3. Quick update on Amelia:

She has been very helpful as a Knight. I haven't had the chance to play the game as much, but when getting the chance to run a chapter she proves to be a good force for the party along with Franz. She's replaced Gilliam, and if I can promote her to General (assuming that's the right class name for promoted Knights in Sacred Stones) I likely will.

  4. Celica is going to be in, huh?

My interest in this game has been kind of low due to the majority of the cast so far being Awakening and Fates characters. I don't have anything against the characters, I just wish this game had gone the Dragon Quest Heroes route by having characters from multiple games represented.

Getting more and more into the series however, my mindset is changing and I'm getting interested. Still wish there was more representation from older games though.

That is a tough one. In all honesty, Chapter 17 was a chapter that was hard for me when I played Conquest on Normal and Hard too. The chapter immedialty introduces to you the most dnagerous enemy in conquest, Master Ninjas. Except in Lunatic, they have not only Poison Strike but Grizzly wound which takes 40% of your health.

40%? Yikes, sounds like Master Ninja are tough cookies. Guess I'll have to prepare for that chapter!

Good luck on running Awakening on Lunatic!

  6. Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I'll go for the Knight -> General route and give her the Swiftsoles. If she's the only other one you can get besides Gilliam, I'd like to see how she turns out.

Boots, called Swiftsoles in SS for some odd reason, can be found in the Desert Chapter (Scorched Sands). The map of the hidden treasure is here. Beyond this one guaranteed pair, you can obtain more, but only at tiniest of chances from certain monsters. However, a trick exists for easy limitless Swiftsoles, but it does take a little time for each pair.

Looking at that map (and hopefully I'm understanding the note right) I just have to take Colm with me as a Thief or Rogue and he'll be able to pick them up, right?

General all the way, she's the only other general you can get in the game, plus she'll end up wielding all 3 weapon types while being faster then Gilliam and possibly more res tanky. It's more work, but if you get her there she'll be a monster.

Edit: Boots can fix her movement so she'll be equivalent to any other infantry

And where can I find boots in Sacred Stones?

  8. So, I'm in the middle of playing Sacred Stones for the first time (technically the second since I'm replaying from scratch and left the game in limbo for so long at chapter 8) and chose to take Eirika's route. Having completed chapter 9 and luckily recruiting Amelia, I found out she was like Ross and could class change at level 10.

My problem is, what do I promote her to?  While another Cavalier could be good, I'd rather have her be a Knight since I only have Gilliam. Honestly I'm not sure, so I'm open to suggestions. Any help and pros/cons would be appreciated!

  9. I've been meaning to try out this series. I have Tales of the Abyss on 3DS but haven't gotten around to playing it...and I've had it since the 3DS version came out!

I would like to try out Tales of Phanstasia at some point. And maybe the PS4 Tales of game. Pretty sure that one is Berseria.

That actually reminds me of something I really disliked about Echoes. Most character endings (especially the females') were absolutely nonsensical.
Also, I agree with your assessment.
I really liked Celica as a character and I can understand from a story and world standpoint why she acted like she did, even though to someone who is on the outside looking in she might appear to be stupid, but I'm not going to go in depth about this, as it will surely derail this topic and I don't want that to happen.

Also Rudolf >>>>>>>>>>> Azura. If only because Azura is one of the most despicable people in FE history. And that includes Valter the (implied) Rapist.

Your last paragraph intrigues me. I just beat Birthright for the first time, and I'm wondering why Azura is despicable. I'm guessing I'll get my answer when I play Conquest and Revelation in the future.

Anyway, back on topic, I still have a lot of love for this game, but I definitely don't like the map balance between the two paths. I don't have too much of a problem with the open field maps, but I wish Celica had some more of those kind of maps rather than deserts and swamps that are hard to maneuver in. If I could I would swap half of the desert to Alm's route and at least one of the swamp maps.

Oh, and I wish there were more support conversations, but only for characters it would make sense to have conversations with. Such as Alm having one with all the Ram villagers, Valbar with Kamui, and (this one being one I can't believe they don't have) Alm with Celica, to name some examples I'd like.

Other than that, I still love the game and currently consider it my favorite FE game.

  11. Delthea was a favorite of mine too. You have to be cautious with her at first, but she can gain levels quickly and before I knew it she could easily kill off anything that came her way and was a sturdy enough unit. She's the perfect candidate for a Mage Ring.

I could see someone not liking her for her personality though. I found it funny how she thought she was so amazing, and I liked her support conversations.

  12. Nomah is the only character who springs to mind. Not that I dislike using him, as he can be a good back up healing unit or back up attack unit should enemies get too close, but he really lacks in gaining experience. He's a character I feel would benefit from using on the Pitchforks so you can retrain him, whether it's using the Dread Fighter loop once or just having him go through the Mage line again.

I do like the character and his story/relationship with Celica as her mentor once she leaves Ram Village. I just wish he was a stronger unit from the get go.

    what up

kof is great. last blade is a decent fighting game in that era too, if you haven't tried it already. what's your opinion on the new gen fighting games like injustice, sf v and mk x

and last but not least, how many points have you choked

I'm not that big a fan of Netherrealm fighting games, so stuff like Mortal Kombat X and Injustice doesn't interest me. Though hearing Hellboy and Black Mantra are coming to Injustice 2 has me interested.

Street Fighter V I find fun, but man that game had a rocky launch. I really hope we'll see some more Street Fighter III era characters. I'd love to have Q back.

And for your last question, I've done that plenty that I've lost count! With each new FE game I play the number just keeps on rising! XD

Welcome to the Forest, The Unlikely Knight!

You told us about RPGs but what about your favorite Fighting Games?

Have a nice day and enjoy your stay!

For fighters, my favorites would be the King of Fighters series, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and Guilty Gear. Oh, and Smash Bros. I know some wouldn't classify it as a fighting game, but I've always thought of it as one.

I'm no pro player, but I'd say I'm decent at playing these games against others. My friends hate fighting me in Smash Bros. since I usually win!

    * Mycen or Nomah: You wanna see their caps.

    * Conrad: You're going to abuse his high resistance growth with shards.

You know, I was thinking these 3 would be good candidates for reclasses. I didn't do any reclassing for my first run, but when I play on Hard I definitely plan to use the Pitchforks.

To add my own choice, I would go with Valbar as a reclasses character. While I like him as a tank for Celica's route, I feel he could benefit from a Pitchfork. Not sure if I would make him a Knight again or go the Dread Fighter loop route though.

Otherwise, I'd definitely reclass Nomah. While good for back up healing, he was the one unit who fell flat for me.

In Echoes you can easily have an Alm who is too weak to deal with his lategame solo section, but unlike the Ike cases you can at least go level him up to fix this. I guess in theory if he got unbelievably bad levels you could get stuck, though?

This almost happened to me when playing Echoes. I wasn't paying enough attention to Alm's levels and he nearly keeled over when I reached this solo section. Thank goodness for Mila's Timewheel and those healing tiles in the solo run! They helped immensely, and his level ups did even things a bit.
