  1. @Alfred Kamon While it's been ages since I touched this mod, I am glad that NOA isn't threatening you with lawsuits over bullshit copyright claims. Of course they're well within their rights to do so since it's kinda sad that laymen doing things on a decade old engine are able to make better more compelling stories than the drivel produced by the actual company.

They're fricking jelly, so I suppose I'll wait for the 2.0 patch by suffering some Fates.

  2. Holy Fuck Monkeys, the new are leagues beyond the old. These actually make the characters more like individuals than obvious splices or recolors from the other games. Now, did you do them or someone else and how long did it take to revamp from the old to new? Because, I prefer this method over putting in a hell of a time into a swanky full custom portrait in sacrifice to development time for other aspects of the game such as maps and eventing. AT the same time I can really appreciate the effort it takes to put out so much material, even if aesthetically it seems sub par, only for it to be polished later on while hammering out the core part of the game such as balancing and introducing any other new mechanics you might want.

  3. So, I have Edit- 0.5.0.1, how do I use the next version without starting over? As to the actual game, I'm really enjoying what's there so far. Just finished Ch. 5 and got the Magus Band and have a question about it. It says that it raises Res growth and that it's inactive during training. Just how much does it raise it and does it not apply to the trainee classes?

Edit 2- Thank You Blue Druid.

  4. I swear getting alerts in the spam box is irritating.

    Donnel - Hero
Does he not tell his mother as he leaves the village he'll become one?

    Ricken - Dark Knight
Ricken loves animals, Chrom who is his idol uses swords, and DARK Knight? What class would be better for Mr. "Don'tLookDownOnMe?"

There is a difference with being good with animals and commanding a steed to listen to your orders in a pitched battle. It doesn't help that Ricken is an immature kid with no experience in these matters. Chrom being his idol does not translate to riding a horse and flinging spells and killing people with swords. It doesn't help that pulling out the capability to use a sword on a steed is far different from being capable on foot such as a Swordmaster. Ergo, more of an asspull to justify Ricken as a Dark Knight than as a Sage.

Regarding Donnel, I believe you are conflating the class Hero with the generic noun referring to someone of great valor and bravery. Since Donnel starts with a spear, I thought it would be more sensible if he didn't suddenly drop the one weapon type he knows how to use for others that he would have a harder time adjusting for.

I'd imagine Gaius would be a Trickster as he is shown to do tricks in his supports with Miriel and in chapter 6 he is shown to not want to kill but just take the treasure which is similar to how the trickster class is set up due to the addition of staffs making him more support than offence.

No, there is mention specifically that Gaius is willing to do dirty deeds if necessary for the Shepards. IIRC it was in reference to doing the dirty jobs that most people in the army wouldn't want to do such as digging the latrines. I just extended that mindset to that.

Severa appears in the class reel as Bow Knight, but TCG as Hero. For a nonspoiler version, though, I would just default to BK. If you want the reason and don't mind spoilers, click below. It's, well...pretty conclusive.

[spoiler=for a game that isn't FE13, if you know what I'm getting at]

Luna in both Hoshido chapter 23 and the beach DLC defaults to Bow Knight instead of Hero, and in FE14 you only get a custom palette on your "canon" promotion, which Luna gets on BK and not Hero.

    Luna is also confirmed Severa.

In the same vein, Inigo is definitely a Hero. Owain's a weird case since he reclassed his own ass to Dark Mage in Fates, but he can reclass to the equivalent of Myrm and its branch promotions, and he actually does have a custom palette in the class that's SM's equivalent.

Huh, I never knew that. [spolier] I suppose this makes sense for Severa from her perspective to be in a class that would generally be antithetical for a flier. Regarding Owain, does he have anything custom for Dark Mage or does it only extend to the Myrm equivalent? Also it would make sense that Owain would be a Dark Mage considering that Nohr does not have a Myrm equivalent inherent to their route. This way a vanilla run of Nohr does not really infringe on the cllases of the other path.

  5. -CT: ok, it was already unzipped but what i did do was switch the end part from (.rar) to (ups) and it found it, but when i tried to patch it the program said: "this patch is corrupt"

    -HDA

the fact that the file extension is rar indicates that the file is still compressed. You can dl winrar for free so you can decompress the files to access the patch.
  6. Her statlines definitely fit sage more, but her personality actually does work with War Cleric. Although she is pretty fragile, she likes to at least try to assert that she isn't.

I mean honestly she could go either way personally based on personality alone. Official works like to portray her more as WC, though. Possibly because it's also funny.

You're right, there is something very deadly about a 15 year old girl wearing a metal ribbed skirt advancing towards you with Armads in her hands to assert her authority. AT least it adds to class variety although class variety would be better if magic wasn't put into one neat package.

  7. Almost all of your suggested promotions are somewhat regarded as the "canon" promotions, based on past FE games and the children's classes in the Future Past. The only ones that deviates are Lissa and Brady, but I still agree that they should be in the Sage classes (makes no sense for them to be War Cleric/Monk when all their supports are about how frail they are).

Both Sully and Stahl should promote to Paladins, so they can keep their color scheme (and that Great Knight armor looks awful).

I chose Great Knight since I recall that Frederick was one of her trainers when she was recruited as a knight. Also her daughter goes down the armor route so I thought it would be a little more sensible that Sully taight her how to use heavy armor but never got to the point of teaching her to use that on a mount. I also based it on giving the GK class more representation since the Paladin class is heavily saturated throughout the series.

I would argue that Lissa and Brady should be War Clerics/Monks respectively just based on how in older games Clerics and Priests always promoted to Bishops and Mages to Sages(The exception being Emmeryn in this case who was a Cleric). But I do prefer Sage for them in a statistic point of view.

I feel Sully and Stahl would be Paladins just based on being the archetype they are.

Donnel will always be a Villager to me but if Soldier was a playable class and could promote to Halberdier, then I would use that for him.

Next is Cordy who I believe would be a Dark Flier simply based on how she is one in Cipher.(Though I don't believe she has any unique armor for being a Dark Flier)

I tend to believe Henry is a Dark Knight cause animals but it could be either.

Virion I believe is a Bow Knight since he is of nobility and I would say the ground is just not fabulous enough for Virion to walk upon it.

Finally is Gerome. While I tend to make a Wyvern Lord for canon sake, I believe his canon class or what could be his canon class is Griffon Rider just based on the fact he wished to let Minerva go when he came from the future.

Except there is a fundamental difference between chucking light magic at enemies and taking a burly ax to crush some skulls. Of course the fact that light magic is basically non existent in this game beats the point of them being analogous to bishops.

Cordelia's personality and inherent talent would lend credence to her being a Dark Flier, it also adds more balance in class variety.

Gerome is the only one I feel that the developers should have made a Griffon Knight to give a new class some representation form a player character. It could have been done without altering too much of Gerome's back story. Just make it that Minerva died in the future after Cherce, and that he named his new Griffon after her. It would also contrast well with his tendency to avoid people, especially one's from his past, but with Minerva as the last real link that's always there tethering him to his roots.

Lissa's TCG art show her as a War Cleric full with axe, for what it's worth.

Wow, Never knew that. Stiil it's a really absurd choice based on what's known about her character and hard to believe since she lacks the physical presence that Cherce possesses. I could believe it if it was for Brady and if they had taken out his relative physical frailty that's part of his character.

Cordelia would/could pick up Dark Magic… she gets an entire class tree dedicated to it (Dark Mage).

Besides, one of the ideas behind her character is that she puts efforts into developing as many skills as possible.

Picking up attack spells (which she can use in 3 of her 6 promoted classes, Dark Flier, Sorcerer, and Dark Knight) would seem reasonable. Plus she's a Dark Flier in the Cipher. The funny thing is that stats wise she's more suited to a Falcon Knight and Sumia should be the Dark Flier, but personality wise I'd imagine the opposite.

Yeah, personality wise I can see her succeeding in that role, but the only pint of contention is that magic is portrayed in the series as something you have to be talented to really excel at. For example take Erk, an extremely studious persona yet he never sees himself approaching the raw capability of his teacher, Pent. His supports with Nino also lends to that theory that Magic is something one has to have in their blood to really be remotely good at.

Logically, Kellam should not have a promotion. He should either never be recruited or remain a level 5 Knight forever, as you should forget about him the moment you recruit him.

That's more of a writing failure than class mechanics. If they gave Kellam a personal skill of Pass it would be more believable but that's an entirely different tangent.

  8. What would you consider the most likely class of a character based on characterization through the games. I'm specifically talking about the unpromoted characters and which out of their 2 promotion choices better fit their characterization.

Lissa- I think she makes more sense as a sage than wearing a metal skirt and brandishing an ax to kill her enemies.

Sully- Not too sure, I lean towards Great Knight more because of Kjelle and because of Frederick.

    Virion- Sniper.

Stahl- Paladin? I dunno maybe Great Knight.

Vaike- Warrior because his persona screams more power over defense than a Hero favors.

Miriel- Sage since she's all about no nonsense research and using a horse would take away time better used for research and experimentation.

Sumia- Falcon Knight since I don't see her picking up Dark magic in any sensible manner.

Kellam- General since he's more likely to be ignored in heavy armor than with a horse decked out in armor.

Donnel- Lancer/Halberdier but the class doesn't exist but would have made him a more unique person to use.

Ricken- Sage since I don't see him being able to have a mount that would listen to him in battle nor be responsible enough for it.

Maribelle- Valkyrie since I do not see her ditching her horse to whack infidels in a skirt and ax.

Gaius- Assassin more than a Trickster since he's more than willing to do the dirty jobs to get things done.

Cordelia- Falcon Knight for the same reasons as Sumia.

Gregor- Obvious Hero, not foolhardy enough to be a warrior.

Tharja- Sorcerer, don't see her getting a horse to hex people when she could do it herself.

Cherce- Wyvern Lord since there's no way she's going to ditch Minerva.

Henry- Sorcerer, no reason for a horse, although he could based on his affinity for animals.

    Children

Owain- Swordmaster since he seems to hammy to be an Assassin.

Inigo- Hero, it's a more dashing class for him to woo the ladies with.

Brady- Sage since he doesn't seem to have the physical fortitude necessary for a War Monk.

Kjelle- General since her supports indicate Sully never taught her to ride a horse.

Cynthia- Falcon Knight for the same reasons as Sumia and Cordelia

Severa- Hero, she's more likely to bash someones face in on foot than on a horse.

Gerome- Wyvern Lord since he obviously has Minerva.

Laurent- Sage also since I don't see him getting a horse.

Noire- Sniper for the same reasons as other characters with an alt promo using a mount.

  9. no, sorry. But I'm not down for another extension/leeway option of any kind. I'll be organizing my school schedule around these due dates as I'm the one hosting the event and making the main videos for it.

Its also my birthday around mid october and I don't intend to be thinking about FEE3 around then and I guarantee that midterms are gonna be floating around then as well

people are just gonna have to get an fee3 goal and meet it by september 20th, if they can't meet the extended deadline, then that's too bad.

Cool, will you update the OP to reflect the finalized due date?

  10. Well, the original submission date is 9 days away... It doesn't seem like many people are going to be ready by then.

So here's my proposal: I say that we take all of this month/most of September, all submissions are due on September 20th, and have the show run October 2nd - 4th.

This would be a good proposition, it allows many of the students here time to settle into the Fall Semester without having to worry about FEE3 adding to the stress. The following week would be a good time for the presenters to edit and post it on the relevant channel(s).

The question is how many people feel that they can meet the propoosed deadline definitively and in the scenario that there needs to be another extension for submission there needs to be adequate time for everyone to put it together for presentation.

Arch's proposal sounds good, but there should be limit that the presentation should be at the latest 2-3 weeks before Thanksgiving to give everyone involved time to comply with any familial obligations coming.

I'd say make the presentation set for Arch's proposed deadlines and have leeway for it to be finalized until mid to late October.

    Thoughts?

  11. Sorry for late response.

Well, it's not that inaccurate, but the in-game version is a bit slower when raising the axe, not to mention it has sound effects. If I ever remake this or overhaul it, it'll have to wait because I have 2 animations going on and a potential 3rd one.

Ah, in that case it would be a better idea to update the gif to match the in game rendition, otherwise you have idiots like me criticizing it on aspects that aren't true.

There actually is a map sprite, it's included in the zip download.

Wat? I don't know how I missed that in the animation thread, i'm really sorry.

And it's actually 87 frames. I counted (including the handaxe, sword and unarmed animations).

87 frames to individually alter would a tedious task. In the event you do feel like it, it would be nice to see it fit in with the Falcon Knight and Wyvern Lord, otherwise it's a really solid piece of work you've added for the fandom. Anyways, if it feels like I'm heckling you, by all means let me know so I can stop.

  12. I assume PDP is in reference to PewDiePie, some youtuber that's proof that most subscribers trace their genealogy to Baldrick.

So far you have Gheb and his enormous girth, you will get Glass with his peerless skillz, and to complete this trifecta you get

    Batta the Beast

Overall not much in the early chapters, I believe it gets more difficult after the route split, and once you have access to the Tower and Lagdou, you realize that grinding is a bit more difficult than it was in vanilla.

Taking this hack in any manner that approaches seriousness is actually a sign of one's dwindling intelligence, the entire premise of this hack is based on the absurdity of failure reject bosses in FE8 and FE7 attaining their memetic status and going on their unsurprising idiotic adventure.

Essentially a game you play with as minimum number of neurons firing. This is the real goal of this hack, the first one to operate on zero wins!

  13. Really, the gif is inaccurate? You might want to change that so it better represents the actual animation. As long as the actual animation gains height to add momentum, it should have some of the necessary oomph. On the actual Griffon, to make it more robust, how feasable would it be to add some adornments to it? Maybe a bit of armor or more muscular limbs might give it an impression of strength. As it is, it looks like the Griffon is less of a free unrestrained creature and more lke a poor bird in need of a next meal. It really looks emaciated when compared to the Falconknight and Wyvern Lord and Knight.

Now that you are better than when you first started, you might feel inclined to doing a redo of this, essentially a 2.0 comparable to TBA's. If you compare between those two, you can really see the big difference, the 1st one just looks wonky in comparison.

It's really awesome that you've added a great resource like this, similarly when the first Halberdier was made for the gba, it was a pretty sweet addition, then the subsequent one just blew the previous standards out the water. If you look at many hacks, you see a lot of usage for the 2.0 sprite, the one that is more custom compared to some of the modified Ephraim edits you see used as a representative for the Halberdiers on the gba. What I'm getting at is that a griffon would be a wonderful addition to the gba roster.
Nao work on that map sprite you fiend.

Also it doesn't help that IS could have added Griffon Rider as a base class for Gerome and have his mount be named Minerva in remembrance of the same one that battled alongside Cherce and a battle mount he would have grown up aside. That's my headcanon, don't ruin it, it helps me sleep. Or keep me awake as it seems.:)

Of course this is me speaking without understanding just how many individual frames you would have to edit and spend an entirely lengthy time spent on a venture requiring a full retooling to achieve a custom animation that stands out on its own. Of course, if you really want to redo this it should be at a pace where it's not tedious work sans any fruit.

  14. Why thank you fellow druid. But why do some people keep saying that the Griffon Knight looks unpromoted?! The Griffon Knight uses the same motion and attack as the Falco Knight and the Dragonlord, as well as the Dragonlord's rider. I explained this it in this topic, and there is an actual unpromoted Griffon Rider in the Battle sprites spoiler. Yes, screw awakening.

For one, compare the wyvern rider with the lord and you see that the difference lends to the lord having more of an oomph. There's also the fact that the lord is slightly bigger, the actual knights armor is better and the fact that in the promoted version of pegs and wyverns, they fly to a height and then swoop in for the damage, then fly around to rest.

Your animation swoops in immediately, essentially lacking the sheer momentum and implied gravitas for such a powerful attack that naturally looks proper for a promoted class. Instead, it looks like a half meld between unpromoted and promoted; kind of a tier 1.5 class. Something similar to that of radiant dawns 2.5 part 4 enemies.

Of course the occult skills are seriously broken, but that's an entirely different discussion.

Honestly, if i had artistic skills that weren't worth a smidge of shit, i might have in your place tried to model the Griffon Knight as an axe version of the Wyvern Knight, except that of a knight on a different mount.

I'm not insulting your skills, and frankly I'm not really aware of how much hard work goes into making a custom animation. Just a vague awareness from reading the tuts thats it's a fuckload of hard, lengthy work.

As for the Wicked Flier, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say...

That's cool, gotta have your secrets. If you don't mind sharing, how long does it take for you to complete an animation once you've got the idea of how it should execute?
  15. Thanks a lot Willie! I wasn't fond of drawing mini-portraits, so every character gets like a mini personal sigilTM Blue Druid 2015. I actually have plans to animate all of the battle sprites, (some of them I've also began making the frames) except the swordfighter.

What you have up there are pretty awesome. I especially love the Griffon Knight as an alt flier class from the pegasi and the wyverns. My only gripe is that the animation seems more fit as an unpromoted class so would be better reflected as Griffon Rider. Screw Awakening, they never gave us a proper Griffon riding character. Please tell me you have plans for a proper Wyvern Knight analogue for the Griffon.

Regarding the other battle sprites, I'm really liking the Wicked Flier, it's got this cool mysterious vibe to it. But, what exactly is it supposed to be? From the name and what you have up there, I'm guessing it's your take on the Revenant Knight from Fates, but instead using staves and maybe tomes? I dunno, but the shamanic hood and the creepy torn wings seem to be something relating to dark magic to me. Well, whatever it is, I like it!

  16. Spanglish!

That's actually interesting. What I wonder is, were map changes or enemy placement changes possible at the point at which this hack was made? I kind of have to wonder exactly how many changes we can "look forward" to later on.

The creator of the hack is from Puerto Rico, and despite it being a commonwealth of the United States, it's actually more likely that his fluency is far better in Spanish than English. If I remember right, actual spoken fluency in Puerto Rico for English is pretty bad since the mother tongue for most people is Spanish. It's rare where you find people possessing command of a single language with minuscule grammar errors. Couple that with the language probably being your second, and then actually turning that into text can sometimes leave you with a very poorly worded piece of crap. Of course it doesn't help that the general tone of GhebFE is Internet speak and that this hack is no way anything serious. The fact that Glass and his "peerless skillz" are in this is a testament to this fact.

Actually changing map placements of enemies is I think either nigh impossible or extremely difficult without the use of the Event Assembler. WIth Nightmare I know you can change the actual characters deployed, the inventory, whether the character is autoleveled from their character data or just used from their actual character data with no influence from their levels.

But actually changing the location on said map coordinates is I think impossible. Likewise, modifying the reinforcements is also much harder without the EA; you're generally forced to work within the parameters of the original events.

Hell, actually some of the findings of the Tower of Valni and Lagdou Ruins are because of him, the Creature Campaign is quite different from the normal chapters in how they are structured. Aitos did this hack before Gheb Saga, which is pretty daunting of a task considering the year this hack was worked on, and that he did it on the FE8 engine first as opposed to the better understood FE7. If you follow any of the hacking scene, you realize that many developments get done generally for FE7 first and then get ported to FE8 if someone was inclined to do so or just necessary demand.

FE6 is just in it's own poorly understood neighborhood. ;(

Of course, my memory of this hack is several years old, it seems that any relevant knowledge of the actual chapters will be better served from HF Makalov Fanboy Kai.

  17. Regarding the boss, remember that this hack was constructed before event editing was a thing. Most if not all events are from the original. Likewise, the battle with the boss is also structured as if I t was in the original fe8 rom. Essentially the outcome is the same, generic npc gets stomped by him, except that the stats are different so in the actual battle he doesn't die, but after it he is scripted to die, which he does despite "surviving" it.

All the text had to be done in a format that wouldn't break the vanilla structure, put too much and you start overwriting and start sceewing the rom up. Since this was don't before FeEditor, text texting wasn't as streamlined as it is now.

While I have no experience before the editor, Aitos might have done the edits using something else.

IIRC, something called the anti huffman patch? Blademaster or Klokinator might know?

  18. Crass humor and extreme immaturity of the content within, GhebFE was made in the way early days of hacking GBA games. I think it was done after Attack of the Morphs for FE7, or sometime around that era. Yeah, it was made by this guy. One of the first hacks for the GBA games that actually changed content for the entirety of the game but done in an era where eventing was a nightmarish bitch to handle.

The veteran hackers who have been here would be better able to tell you how difficult this was to do based on the limitations back then. On to the gameplay, it's actually quite annoying in difficulty at times, and some characters are clearly inferior to others. On the plus side there are a few "novel" classes and character differences in the route split, Tower of Valni and Lagdou Ruins are even harder than before but you do get the benefit of some Tier 3s, namely Gheb and Glass off the top of my head.

Think of this hack as a past AU of Klok's FE7 Chaos mode thoroughly excommunicated from the family yet miraculously managing to grow to completion despite the hardships faced when it came to developing.

Basically Klok's is made in mind with more fun game-play and few tweaks in mind, but developed in an era with a plethora of tools to achieve such a purpose whereas GHebFe is made in an era of crass stupidity for mindless fun but with enormous difficulties to face if you wanted to stray from the vanilla experience.

I'm pretty sure that this hack doesn't have custom animations, but it's sequel does, then again my memory is shoddy since I last played this when I was in my young highschool years.

  19. I personally don't see anything bad about Phoenix mode as long as it is not dependent to clear certain chapters. The moment that game design makes it nigh impossible or based on RNG luck as the determining factor, the developers have monumentally fucked up. The key point is that no map should ever be made with Phoenix mode in mind, otherwise it shits all over Fire Emblem's history.

On that note, I remember getting Blazing Sword after seeing the FE7 commercial back in 2003, I was 9 years old. I remember looking at the back of the box, seeing Hector in the middle of his attack and thinking, "Wow!, Hector's a sorcerer, cool!." and then by Victory or Death, barely having less than 10 characters up to par, everything else was dead or underleveled. Eliwood was total shit because I never leveled him before his autopromotion. Needless to say, I was a colossal idiot, now if Phoenix mode was present back then, I would have been more interested in playing the game, at that point it got too hard and then I lost the game along with my SP. I only managed to beat the game because my friend let me borrow his after I got him into the series.

Tldr, Phoenix mode is a wonderful addition for young newcomers into the series, looking back now, all the games from 7 and onwards are relatively beatable without much frustration on Hard, but as a young kid with no experience with rpgs, I can see how difficult it was to get into fire emblem. Honestly, the mage, pegasus, cleric and cavalier all at once fascinated my young mind and was partially why I stuck with the series at such a young age.

  20. Kamui, I feel should be renamed if only because it screams Obito from Naruto. It would be especially jarring from a western perspective where the mythological connotations would be lost and instead make the player think of Naruto, likewise for Hinata. Actually, if anything Hinata just might get changed to something else, it's way too associated with Naruto.

Marx actually is fine if it stays, but something like Maximillian would also be a good localization contender. And as for lobster man, just Ryoma would be fine as a localized name yet reflecting Hoshidan cultural customs.

  21. did you try making the class have a base S rank? IIRC the character weapon level oIcan never be less than the class weapon level sooooooo :|

haven't actually tested or found any evidence of this but it's the only guess I got since I've been in the community since forever and I don't remember any ASM hack regarding this :\

Im pretty sure char weapon rank overwrites class weapon rank unless promoting and you fall under.

    Coulld use confirmation.

  22. We're probably gonna do auto level, since it works properly. Example, Balder loaded in Musain as a level 20 Pirate.

Since auto level averages last I checked, stats shouldn't be too bad?

EDIT: Okay, so they don't completely average out. (Balder is missing 1 res and is blessed in HP Defence and Skill) Though auto level seems like the only way we'd be able to get everyone from both route rosters together, so we're probably going to stick with it.

Ok, just wasn't sure what the solution was considering the last time this was brought up.

Out of curiosity, are there any chars truly exclusive in the same vein as Harken/Karel and Wallace/Geitz? Of course you could reply with a play it yourself and I'd grudginly accept it.

  23. Don't remerber it being rectified, but have you guys thought of a solution to the route exclusive characters joining when there's a convergance(in regards to the level disparity that would be present), without mucking up the support library? Or did you guys figure out a method to make the autolevel more accurate or something?
