The English localization didn't have him calling her such, from what I recall.

Don't know about the original script.

I found the script of the supports in the fire emblem wikia. In the B rank support of Gaius and Sumia, he says this

"Gaius: Heh heh. There's bound to be a hive around here somewhere. Plus, this meadow of tall flowers should hide me from that oddball noblewoman..."

    ^ My responses in bold.

Biggest sticking point for me is Virion because of his rather unique situation.  He states after the time skip that he was going incognito as an incredibly flamboyant... mercenary, I guess, and it is only revealed that he's a noble after you defeat Gangrel.  Him losing his land at that point isn't what makes him a "commoner" because that happens well into the game's story as opposed to when the story starts, but Mercedes proves that an actual noble can still be of the "commoner" class if they're trying to be incognito, which is exactly what Virion is trying to be (which is ironic, considering how boisterous he is about introducing himself all the time).

Thanks for your input I kinf of forgot Henry and Robin on the list. I added Henry as a Commoner and I answered that I considered Robin to be a Noble in another reply. Whats your take on this?

What about Robin, Tiki, Gangrel, Walhart, Yen'Fay, Emmeryn, Aversa and Priam? You know, the rest of Awakening's first generation characters.

Oh, and Panne and Nowi do indeed count as first generation characters.

    Robin - Noble

    Walhart - Noble

    Gangrel - Noble

    Yen'fay - Noble

    Emmeryn - Noble

    Aversa - Commoner?

    Priam - Commoner

Yeah I know they count as first generation characters, but they aren't human characters so I wasn't sure if i should even be included on this list.

  4. So which would be the starting classes of the fire emblem awakening 1st generation characters, if they were in Three Houses? Here is my interpretation (although i am not so sure about some of them):

    Chrom - Noble

    Lissa- Noble

    Frederick - Noble?

    Vaike - Commoner

    Maribelle - Noble

    Ricken - Noble

    Stahl - Noble?

    Sully - Noble?

Panne/Nowi - Do they even count?

    Kellam - Commoner

    Gaius - Commoner

    Virion - Noble

    Sumia - Noble

    Lon'qu - Commoner

    Miriel - Noble?

    Cordelia - Noble?

    Libra - Commoner?

    Gregor - Commoner?

    Olivia - Commoner

    Cherche - Commoner?

    Tharja - Commoner?

    Flavia - Noble

    Basilio - Noble

    Say'ri - Noble

    Henry - Commoner

I dunno, I pretty much only go for Sothis because voice in my head > real girls any day. xd

Anyway, it's a shame for those who got their hopes up that Gilbert and Alois weren't what they expected. I'm not a fan of diversity for diversity's sake I'd rather have characters be organic in whatever relationship preferences they prefer. It doesn't make sense to me for the A relationships between two same gender characters to be extremely platonic but when between two different genders their feelings are considerably less platonic. If they make the character consistent where it's less straight forward platonic with their other A ranks too or at least some semblance that they're actually gay/bisexual rather than just Byleth sexual then that would be great. Unfortunately I know they'd never do that in this title at least because it would require considerable effort to rework support convos to do so. But that's just my two cents.

Is there any way we can contact nintendo to at least try and implement some more S supports for male byleth?

Apparently this is starting to get some magazine articles about it. There are a couple of spoilers for certain supports in the one I found so I'll be putting the link in spoiler tags for safety.

I think this article hit some of the major points that people are talking about, and hopefully other articles like this will help get Nintendo's attention.

Wonderful news! I hope more game news media talk about this controversial aspect of the game.

As for the new characters that three houses are going to introduce... I am HOPING that this isn't another one of those new crossover characters from previous games. I really disliked those Nohr and Hoshido characters appearing out of nowhere in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

Are people seriously happier with 1M/1F than 1M/3F. Honest to God question, because that seems to be the implication some people are making.

They are happier with 1M/1F because at least the number was equal and it was both options were problematic. With the 1M/3F options we get on three houses, we not only get an imbalanced between the number of M|M and F|F supports, but the reasons for that imbalance just completely ticks us off:

1- The fact that Alois and Gilbert S supports are not same sex marriage supports like Lindhardt (and you even marry a WOMAN in Alois ending) - queerbaiting to the extreme.

2- The fact that even if Alois and Gilbert were in fact options and the number of same sex supports became equal, the LGBT representation of the game would still be criticized because Alois and Gilbert are two married old men, who knew the protagonist since birth.

3- The fact that the high number of lesbian supports is most likely linked to the fetishization of lesbians.

4- The fact that the lesbian options are more linked to the plot of the game.

    etc etc

This news honestly breaks my heart and is giving me really self conscious feelings that I haven't felt in a really long time.

Why can't people take relationships between guys seriously? It's stuff like this that really makes me feel less than human. I don't even know what to do.

When stuff like this appears, what I do is to remind myself how far lgbt rights have come. And to look for better representation in the media, specially in books.

The answer there is that straight Byleths should have their options reasonably limited too, of course. Given that straight Byleth is the sole exception in endings being limited and unique I would argue that the multitude of options is a compromise with the regrettable majority.

    I completely agree.

Can anyone confirm to me the possibility that new updates of the game could unlock S supports between some characters?

Ah, reminds me of the time I thought Zelos Wilder from Tales of Symphonia was a girl, back when I was a wee child. And before I actually encountered him ingame. Just a little long hair with some pink coloring could lead to a first glance mistake.

Not even the hips? I know men are naturally somewhat curvy, just not as much as women typically. Unless you're talking Final Fantasy Tactics.

It isn't just the hips though that makes Lucius look feminine to me, since OA Etzel has the same hips.

The face portrait ingame isn't so feminine you'd be right though. But I think it still leaves ambiguity at least.

And I'll offer some pity for those on this sinking Claud ship. Read too much into speculation, place too much hope, and this is what can happen.

The real ship sinking for me is Raphael and the hotness that he is going to be after the timeskip.

you finally made me twig onto it, linhardt just looks like pictures of squires and pages from all the million books on knighthood i read as a youth

    EDIT:

fewer than one in five respondents put in Yes, and some of those put in things like 'i also thought shinon was a girl'. i'm very hesitant to accept this as evidence that more than those thirteen people thought soren was a girl.

So you don't think Soren looks at least a little bit feminine. And that thus he doesn't fall into the yaoi stereotype of the uke that was present with Lucius in blazing blade? I mean just look at Soren and Lucius. And now look at Lindharth, you really don't see any similarities?

People mistaking someone for a girl =/= the character actually being feminine. Linhardt's young face with round eyes and a short medieval ponytail is nowhere near, say, Leon. I'm pretty androgynous myself, and people mistake me for a man or a woman all the time. It doesn't make me either of those things. Plus, Soren? Are you being serious here?

When there is actually a thread with a voting poll in this website about this very topic, than yes I am being serious here. https://forums.serenesforest.net/index.php?/topic/14749-who-thought-soren-was-a-girl/page/2/#comments

I... really don't know where you're getting this "Linhardt is super effeminate" thing. In addition, he wouldn't fit that even if he was, considering he doesn't look especially young. Sure, he's not a brawler, but he's no less masculine than, say, Seteth or Ferdinand.

I am not being trolled right? Because a lot of people thought Lindhardt was a girl at first. Am I the only one that thinks he looks like a mix of Midayle and Soren? Two characters that have also been confused as female by fans.

...I believe OP was attempting to say that IS is trying specifically NOT to fit the stereotypes, in order to not come off as homophobic. Therefore, even though Raphael fits, that actually would make him less likely.

So they make Lindharth a gay option, even though he also fits the uke design of yaoi mangas. How is trying not to fit stereotypes?

Please point out the sentences where OP said that. Because to me the OP is saying that the characters that we got reflect what straight japanese " gay people should be like", that they get these ideas from yaoi and yuri and that what we got is what they think we want. In other words a feminine guy and two old people. One of them being a widower.

  16. 6 minutes ago, Integrity said:

op's entire point is that they were trying, misguidedly, to not do literally that, what's your point

My point is that one of the stereotypes of the gay community in japan, besides extremely feminine guys, are guys with big muscles. So I am expressing my big suprise on the fact that they didn't make Raphael, who fits that stereotype, a same sex option.

Third: I have a basic understanding of Japanese culture, and so that informs my perspective on this; but I’m still liable to get some stuff wrong.

My take on everything: IS is trying. They don’t quite get it, though. 1) they’re mostly straight males. 2) they’re Japanese. They don’t understand what the west’s take is. All they know is people got mad at them for not having LGBT representation. So now we have what we got. As some people have pointed out, it feels like these characters are what white males think gay people should be like. That’s because the game was made by white straight males. (okay Asian straight males… who have have light skin)

I would really like to know how difficult is this for them to get it?! They made a character whose musles are almost bursting through his shirt and they don't make him a gay option? Like wtf?! What about the hard gay stereotype in japanese media?
