Google 'avatar definition'. The second definition is: an icon or figure representing a particular person in video games, Internet forums, etc.

Google 'medium'. There are 2 separate definitions at play, mainly the first but the second gives you more of the idea. 1B is: a means by which something is communicated or expressed. 5 is: a person claiming to be in contact with the spirits of the dead and to communicate between the dead and the living.

An avatar is a physical representation of the player. A medium is just someone who you can communicate into the game through, almost like you're the god and they're your prophet. In Path of Radiance Ike is a medium, not an avatar, as he commands the Greil Mercenaries, your forces. Unless you're claiming that Ike is also an avatar then you need to stop conflating the two definitions.

I think you're making this argument more complicated than it needs to be. It's 100% confirmed that Byleth is the protagonist, the only question is whether or not he is customizable (i.e. a MyUnit/Avatar). While you're right that customization hasn't been confirmed, it's a safe bet to assume it will be in unless Nintendo hates money. The biggest indication so far is that in the Nintendo Topics article, Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude are introduced by full name and with character portraits, whereas Byleth is only referred to as "the protagonist" and no portrait art is shown. If he really was a fixed character like Ike, it would make more sense to introduce him first.

  2. While Setsugetsuka (雪月花) obviously deals with similar concepts, Fuukasetsugetsu (風花雪月) wasn't made up by the devs, it already exists as an idiom (albeit in Chinese), so I don't think the title is a reference to the former, nor do I think the order of the seasons is significant. The equivalent idiom in Japanese is Kachoufuugetsu (花鳥風月), or Flower-Bird-Wind-Moon. As for why they went with the Chinese idiom instead of the Japanese idiom, the wikipedia article might give a hint - unlike the Japanese idiom, the Chinese idiom may also have negative connotations about superficially beautiful words/rhetoric, which could be a reference the true nature of the church, or tensions boiling beneath seemingly friendly relationships among the houses/countries.

  3. Have Krom talk to Callum and Double with him after talking. Move Callum next to Frederick and pass him a Javelin and Krom. Attack either the archer/soldier in the left group using the Javelin. Keep everyone else out of range but as close as possible so they can mop up the remaining enemies on the second turn. The casualties you suffered in the last chapter are probably going to bite you in the arse hard, here. With no casualties you have just enough firepower to clean up all the enemies on the left side.

Next you need to intercept the enemies on the right, position Frederick so he's just in range (he should be able to take on an archer + another unit), and repeat, pulling back each turn. You should be able to weaken the enemies enough to finish them off with a concerted attack by the time they chase you to the left side.

If you're having trouble with insufficient firepower because of the casualties, it might be helpful to get creative with partner swaps. For example, Liz can't attack, but if you move her next to Frederick and pull Krom off him, switch and attack, it's as if she got a turn to attack.

Also worth a mention - an amusing alternative strategy is to not talk to Callum and instead use him as an invisible shield that you can pass through but the enemies can't. Though you'll probably get sandwiched anyway, and getting the Javelin on the first turn is much more important.

  4. There is a reliable way to beat Chapter 2 on Lunatic, but on Lunatic+ you'll need retries to get past unlucky skill combinations.

Make sure at the start of the map Frederick is already carrying the Bronze Sword and at least an Elixir (a Vulnerary would be good too) - i.e. you traded them in the previous chapters. There is some leeway for trading on the first turn, but preferably you want him to be already carrying everything he needs.

Most important thing is to kill the Mercenary to the north in one turn. If Frederick has gained at least two points in STR, he can OHKO it by doubling with Vake. Otherwise, double with Krom/MU and hope for a Dual Attack. For AI purposes, make sure you attack from the right of the Mercenary.

Then move Liz as far to the left as you can. This will put her in the range of the Barbarian. Evacuate all your other units to the left as well, blocking the Barbarian's path to Liz with units that can survive one round against it. In the best case scenario, the single Barbarian will charge down to your units at the bottom left, while the rest will go after Frederick.

If Frederick survives the first enemy phase (this is where the resetting is on Lunatic+), usually you're set. Finish off the Barbarian on the bottom left with the units you moved there. Move Frederick up to the fortress (or the forest if his path is blocked), switch to the Bronze Sword, and heal up. From now on Frederick will be dispatching enemies with counterattacks and healing up on the player turn. You can bait some of them with the bottom units to try and spread out the EXP, but only do it one at a time.

The top half of the map all moves at once, so you'll have to charge in with Frederick and slowly pull back.

  5. Besides stats, Azure with Krom as father is one of the best children because he can get Royal Weapon and Lethality, which is great for dealing with Shield+ enemies on Lunatic+ or annoying other players on your StreetPass team.

Krom and Olivia isn't really that hard to accomplish... I paired them in my first playthrough. Granted I did not use Mariabel, Soiree, or Sumia at all in that file. If that's the pairing you're striving for, just don't use the other girls or leave them around other males as much as possible and double Olivia with Krom in chapter 11.

It's harder with a female MU since it really limits your earlygame options.

  6. Interesting... although it's kind of sad to be reminded that they aren't including a single pair of red/green cavaliers as actual characters...

People are speculating that the red/green cavaliers are suspiciously absent because there'll be Red vs Green DLC or something.

  7. Even as a Troubador-->Valkyrie she's still pretty useful for the higher move and Rescue staff in lunatic for defeat boss chapters. I found Anna was the most useful Rescue staff user though, she doesn't have the Falcoknight class but the characters who have high magic and do have it won't see it for a really long time and Anna's move is quite high, her magic is good she has picklock and gets Lucky 7 at level 5.

Whoops, I meant Troubadour → Battle Cleric → Falcoknight. Went with Battle Cleric to try and improve her Def growths a little, but in retrospect that was unnecessary since I always kept her out of danger. I used Anna as well as a lockpicker/rescuer/healer, she had great growths but Mariabel ended up with higher Mag and better Rescue range.

  8. As a Pegasus Knight, Tiamo seems to be outclassed by Sumia, but she has an excellent class set to make up for her growths. Her stats are more suited to Mercenary/Hero, but if you want both Weapon Saver and Lightning Speed her promotion path gets messy (Pegasus Knight → Dark Pegasus → Mercenary → Hero, or Pegasus Knight → Mercenary → Hero → Dark Pegasus → Hero).

I'm confused by this. Are you saying lances are somehow key to having a good enemy phase? Because of what, 1-2 range? Javelins have shit power and won't do more than scratch enemies a ways into the game, and the others are rare and can't be bought. So a good 1-2 range enemy phase is basically nonexistent and exists only among sturdy mages, like Saria. Double system doesn't have anything to do with this.

But even if that Javelin does 0 damage, as long as the main unit counterattacks the Double partner gets a chance to follow up with any weapon.

That said, lances and bows are completely outclassed by magic. Bolt Axes are great on a Battle Cleric/Monk, though.

  9. So Basilio was still in one piece after that crit. Damn he's tough.

So what's the role of the Fire Emblem in all this? And the Shield of Seals, for that matter. I know Gangrel tries to get it at the beginning, but fails. How does Fauder make use of it?

Then there's Varm in general. Other than a couple of the Orbs somehow winding up there, what relevance does it have?

Varm isn't actually that relevant besides the orbs, but Valhart knows about Fauder/Inverse's plot and wants to unify the continent and destroy Gimle with force. The Fire Emblem is needed for Naga and Gimle's awakening rituals.

  10. Makes sense.

So what exactly did Lucina change with Krom and Basilio, do you know?

Lucina tries to stop Basilio, telling him that if he fights Valhart he'll die. He still goes to fight, but after Flavia leaves he runs like a coward which ends up saving his life.

The bit with Krom is kind of convoluted. MU's been seeing parts of Gimle's memories in his/her dreams, so he/she knows what's going to happen to Krom if they take on Fauder. MU devises a plan with Basilio (who's able to move freely since Fauder thinks he's dead and doesn't have spies watching him) and makes a fake Fire Emblem. When Krom and MU defeat Fauder, Fauder controls MU to kill Krom, but since the Fire Emblem is fake Fauder's powers aren't as absolute and MU is able to resist somewhat, weakening the lightning before stabbing Krom.

  11. So that's why there are two of them, and why Gimle's stuff seems to happen earlier than in the original timeline. Interesting.

So MU is Fauder's son/daughter or something? Why does Fauder look so different, then, while MU looks like a regular human?

Yeah, MU is Fauder's child. We don't know much about MU's upbringing, all that's mentioned is that his/her mother ran away from the Gimle cult and raised MU in secret. So if I had to take a guess I'd say that MU was raised in Iris which is why they don't have the Perezian tan, and kept away from all the weird evil magic which is why they look normal.

  12. Regarding Gimle (huge spoilers):

MU is just a vessel for Gimle, the first in Fauder's bloodline to be suitable for awakening him. In the original timeline, Gimle kills Krom and takes over MU completely. When Lucina travels back in time, Gimle follows her at the expense of half his power (turning him back into humanoid form). When Gimle arrives in the past his memories flood into past MU (the player), causing MU's memory loss. So Gimle is basically future MU.
