  1. Fire emblem has many archetypes, with Jagan , Camus, and Gharnef being some examples. I have thought of some new archetypes that should be added to the fire emblem community.

Just a warning, there are some major spoilers here , obviously.

    1. Armageddon:

From wikipedia, armageddon is the "prophesied location of a gathering of armies for a battle during the end times." In fire emblem, we see this in radiant dawn's part 3 end game, gronder / ailel , engage's xenologue 4 , and cog of destiny.

In Fodlan's versions of armageddon, the music is titled "between heaven and earth." The seventh-day adventist church believes that armageddon creates a new heaven and a new earth.

    2. Julia

Characters that are placed in the Julia archetype were created/engineered by the Gharnef to have un natural powers. Julia's are among the strongest,  characters in fire emblem. They have white hair due to the side effects. Julia's include Idunn, Micaiah,  Robin, Corrin, Edelgard,  Lysithea, and Veyle.  Sometimes, Julias can also be a Medeus.

    3. Sonia

Sonia's are female characters that use their feminine traits to manipulate powerful men. Some of the Sonias are Nuibaba, Aversa, Patricia/Cornelia , and Lyn (engage).

Electric beats Water: Shouldn't this go both ways? Throw any electric appliance into the tub and it will be inoperable. I'd expect any living creature with an internal electric current to do the same when made wet or submersed in water.

Water conducts electricity because of the minerals it contains, not because of the water itself. Electric should be super effective against steel.

I'm on record saying I'd be fine with divided Genealogy maps, but how would they not meet today's standards? If anything modern standards would make Genealogy's maps far more acceptable as stuff like turn skipping and animation speed up exist (and if they're smart, I'm sure they can get platoons to move all at once instead of looking like some kind of Lego construction). Not to mention the huge size of them would look visually impressive with modern 3D graphics. If anything it's Thracia that will be more difficult to meet modern standards as basic stuff like an inability to reposition your units is baked into the game design.

The enemy density of holy war is too low. No one enjoys moving their units with no battles or strategy for several turns.  There are no interesting environments, just big open outdoor space. I'd love to see indoor environments.  The final boss needs to be completely reworked. It was so boring to watch Julia miss over and over again. Very anti-climatic ending.  Compared to the many of the boss fights in engage, a sitting duck boss at a castle with no enemies threatening you is lame.

In comparison, Thracia had much more interesting chapters. Its bosses can easily be revitalized with revival stones, new skills, new enemies, etc. I can already see the youtubers and live streamers doing crazy things such as defeating Galzus at chapter 6, rescuing Eveyle early at 21x, etc., which would generate hype to fans. The last three chapters of Thracia were much more climatic than Holy War's endgame.  In a holy war remake, there would have to be additional chapters inside the castles against the re-worked bosses , and the endgame would definitely need to be up to par.

Nintendo isn't making any more money from Echoes, though, especially now that the eShop has shut down. It's not even possible to buy the DLC anymore. As such, there's no financial reason not to release Gaiden on NES Online. Rather, I think they see Gaiden as the "weakest" among the early games, and therefore not worth porting.

As for the Genealogy-Thracia discrepancy, I'd actually say you have it backwards. Having Thracia 776 on the eShop would definitely drum up enthusiasm for a remake on the same system, by exposing more people to the game and world. Obviously, if it came just to Super Famicom Online (as Genealogy has), it wouldn't make a huge difference, since only Japanese players and series hyerfans would care to access it. The fact that Genealogy is on the system means more Japanese players (and a few international fans) have played that game for the first time on Switch, and are thereby more likely to be interested in a remake of said game on Switch.

When the nintendo switch online was released, Echoes was still on the eshop. I assume nintendo now just thinks ( or doesn't care to think) its not worth the (minimal) time and effort to make Gaiden available.

Thracia in the eshop would ruin the enthusiasm of its remake due to its unfriendliness to new players. I already see people whining about losing half their army after chapter 4, running out of door keys, etc.

  4. Thracia could get remade before Holy War. Notice how the nintendo switch online skips Gaiden, which was recently remade, and Thracia. Holy War is on the nintendo switch online, and Thracia isn't. I assume that nintendo wanted people to play Echoes over Gaiden, and they want people to play the upcoming remake of Thracia over the original.

I could only see a holy war remake being done if it drastically alters the level design, since in its original state, would not uphold today's high standards.

I think the difficulty of the Sacae route tends to be overstated, although I do still think it's more difficult than the Ilia route. But Nomads have their own weakness, namely relatively low attack power, so they're countered pretty hard by any high-Def character (and by "high-Def character" I mean Milady the Wyvern Rider carrying a Delphi Shield nullifying effective damage against her). The problem is that if you don't manage to kill them as they approach (and remember, very evasive), it'll often be very difficult to protect your squishies from them on the next enemy phase.

I'd actually say Ilia is the tougher route, since you get access to the psychic staff store shop at a chapter later, the terrain is more complex , you have to use the pegasus more than the nomads more to get to Ilia, and you get an extra 15 turns to spare for your ranking in Sacae.

I already have the GBA subscription, but I won't be playing it. It would mean going through forced tutorial Lyn mode. *shudder* I've done that too many times for comfort. And I'm too comfortable with modding the GBA games to just play them on a console. It's just more fun to play around with stuff and cultivate an experience after having toughly played vanilla.

Now if it were Binding Blade, they released, then that would be some excitement. Not only do I enjoy the game a lot more, but it being one of the Japanese exclusives I would be pretty pleased to see it become accessible to more people, even if they had to make it 5 bucks to justify it. I paid that for NES Shadow Dragon and it's nowhere near as good as Binding Blade. Coming to think of it, because you can change your region on Switch to play games in a different language, we might just see Binding Blade available outside of Japan, just not in English.

You can create a japanese nintendo account to download the japanese GBA virtual console in order play Binding Blade. Your current membership will also work with your japanese account.  Since Binding Blade has the same user interface as the other GBA games, playing it in japanese will not be an issue. I used a japanese account to play Holy War and Mystery of the Emblem.

Unfortunately, hard mode will not be unlocked in both games. Since I have hard mode unlocked on my cartridges, I will not waste my time playing through the low difficulties on the virtual console.

The fire emblem 7 japanese version is easier than the international versions, because weapon effectiveness is only 2x in international, and 3x in japan.

Can it use it? The most mobile phantom to ever live!

I could not use it, unfortunately.

Oof, that is rough buddy, as I don't think there is any way to get it off of him.

It may be possible to get it off of him by getting enough items in the phantom's inventory, and then by sending one to the convoy. I don't have a save file to test this out, so I don't know if this would work. Since I haven't tested this out, the item could be discarded instead.

Alas, how unfortunate. Incidentally, gotta love the Magvel tendency to rename stuff like the "Swiftsole" and "Wo Dao"... only for said names to promptly revert to series standards at the next opportunity.

It is nice to have some variety in names in different games.

  8. What are your most extreme RNG experiences in any fire emblem game?

    Here is mine:

On thracia's 24x, I was playing for a 3 turn clear. A 3 turn clear would put me at 176 turns total, on track for a sss rank. On one attempt, I lost at the end because sleuf got poisoned by that tome, and then had his hp brought to one. This had approximately a 10% chance of occuring. On another, Galzus got hit by a 15% accuracy sleep edge at the very end. I still could have won with either a cyas (upon restoring Galzus) or Galzus (upon rescuing cyas) movement star, but this did not occur.

My successful attempt was crazy! At the end of turn 2, I had everyone in a conga line in order to escape. Cyas was on the escape tile. He had 69 avoid. He had previously been poisoned, and then got hit by the move that brings him to one hp, with an accuracy of 13 percent.  After the battle, he leveled up and gained one hp, despite holding the Sety scroll. This brought his total hp to 2. He then dodged a sniper. At the beginning of player phase, he luckily only lost 1 hp from poision. I was celebrating what appeared to be a successful attempt.

However, it was actually not over yet. Eyvel was at the back of the line, holding Sara. During this chapter, Sara had unfortunately gained build with a 5% chance, and so Eyvel had her movement cut in half. I did not realize this until I tried to move her. Hope was not lost. I moved her forward and gave Sara to Leif, but she did not get a movement star. Galzus was my last hope. He rescued Eyvel, and activated his movement star! Everyone escaped!

I would love to hear your entertaining stories!

  9. I'm not sure if this has already been discovered. I found an interesting glitch involving enemy movement. On chapter 14, one of the ballistas has one movement, due to movement growths. However, when checking his movement range with the blue tiles, it shows him having zero movement.

  10. Chapters 14 and 20 of Thracia are survival chapters. They require you to survive for 10 and 15 turns. When the game records the turn count, does it record the number of turns to be 11 and 16, or does it record 10 and 15 turns? This issue occurs in blazing sword, so I was wondering if this also happens in Thracia.

  11. I just began my second iron man attempt ever. On my first attempt, like 17 years ago, I failed on chapter 12, hard mode, of Sacred Stones, Ephraim's route. My army got decimated on chapter 11, and then was too weak for chapter 12.

I'm currently on chapter 9 of Ephraim's route. Chapter 6 was a blood bath. A halberd fighter, hiding in the fog, killed Seth. With the loss of Seth,  my pathetic units were surrounded by six caveliers, and some other enemies. I then dropped Gilliam's iron lance, to use him as a sacrifice to the cavelier reinforcements. This bought me an extra turn to survive. I sent Joshua to kill the boss as quickly as possible. In the ensuing bloodbath, I also lost Artur, Colm, and Franz in order to protect Erika. Colm and Seth are massive losses.  Moments like this is now why I love iron manning!

Yeah, Excel really makes everything easier.

While I can do all of the calculations by hand, the =BINOM.DIST.RANGE formula calculates P(X>=k) for me. Sigma is manually calculated (=SQRT(n*p*q)) and =BINOM.INV is set to 0.5 so that I can replicate a normal distribution using CLT and determine what a unit's projected stats at any given level should be.

What makes this model unique is that I focused on being able to account for an early promotion. Got a 10/5 Sain and want to know where he sits? You got it!

    Cool!

I've thought of an interesting statistics problem in Fire Emblem:

On my S ranked run of HHM, I made sure to complete every side chapter. The rankings page does record the number of chapters you completed. To reach 19xx, I had to go through Lyn mode. I decided to solo Lyn mode with Sain. (I did not use any other units because I needed them at low levels for my experience rank in HHM). I promoted Sain at level 20.  Lyn's chapters are very short, so I decided to reset for Sain's level ups. I made sure he maxed out strength, and also gained as much skill as reasonable. I needed him to gain these stats to defeat Kishuna in chapter 19x.

Time is a very valuable resource to fire Emblem players. On any given Lyn mode chapter, find the expectation value (of time), for Sain to gain both strength and skill. Which strategies minimize the expectation value of time?

This statistics problem would be most relevant to Thracia, because of the movement growths and movement stars. For example, a 2 turn or 3 turn clear of Thracia's chapter 1.

    Good job with the model!

I do not know Excel, but I'm familiar with statistics.

    Here are the relevant equations:

p is the probability of success

n is number of times a stat increased in N level ups

N is the number of level ups

p is the probability that a stat increases in a level up

f(n;N,p) is the total probability to have n successes in N events.

    f(n;N,p) = ((N!) / (n!)) ( 1/ (N-n)!)  (p^n)  (1- p)^(N-n)

The expectation value of the number of times a stat increases for n is  E(n) = Np

    The variance is V(n) = Np(1-p)

These equations are on pages 26-27 of Statistical Data Analysis, by Glen Cowan

You should check to make sure that your model is consistent with these equations.

If you're skeptical of the legitimacy of these equations, you can make yourself feel more comfortable with them by studying the limits of these equations.

If you used these equations, the mathematics of your model is correct. But, this doesn't mean that the coding of your model is correct; I do not know Excel.

The vet said my 3 cats are just domestic shorthairs too. My first cat, Qiao Hu (yes, I stole his name for my profile :P:) looks like a Snow Shoe, though I do know he's mixed. His mama was just a plain grey cat. Some heartless person abandoned both of them at a meijer's store and a family friend managed to rescue the kitten. I ended up with him and he's been a wonderful little brother :^_^:. I got my other 2 cats last year. The black one, Chen, was a feral kitten that another friend found in a gas station's trashcan eating pizza scraps. Of course he's addicted to pizza now . And then I ended up with the tortie, Rin, after a good samaritan saw her wandering around in the cold and mistook it for a neighbor's cat. She advertised the cat and no one claimed her, so I got to keep her. She's been a good adoptive mom to Chen.

The black cat, Chen, is a Bombay!

I have no idea if this is already a thing, but take a GBA FE game, and make everyone an armor knight. Preferably you would use Sacred Stones for the multiple choices, but you would have sword knights, axe knights, lance knights, generals, and great knights replace everything. The game would be slow and tedious, but everyone would have boosted stats to make up for it.

Well, have fun trudging through the desert in chapter 14 of binding blade. And you'll definitely miss out on 14x.

In Blazing Sword, Cog of Destiny will be a knightmare with all armor knights.  On the other hand, Binding Blade's Cog of Destiny won't be too difficult. But you need a flier or warp to reach the secret shop.

    Good luck with this challenge!

As far as I know it is just regular exp, but it might still help you reach that A rank, as promoting her increases her staff rank by 1, so you only need to reach level 10 with B rank to get there with promotion.

I would prefer to have her at A rank by chapter 10, or 11x at the very latest. On chapter 3, I reset for a hammerene miss at the beginning of the chapter. I will do the same in  chapters 7, 8, and 9.  Safy has  a 2.56 percent chance of missing two hammerenes in a row. And I have to make sure her skill doesn't increase upon level up. This will be a pain.  Promoting her won't be useful for increasing her staff rank, because she would reach A rank way before level 10.

  17. Here is an example of where knowing some probability may be useful. This would mostly be relevant to ranked runs and low turn count runs.  In Thracia, Leif has a 5 percent chance of activating a movement star in each turn. In four turns, what is the probability of  Leif activating his movement star in two of those turns?

Spoiler tag for the answer to this question.

      1.35375 percent

  18. Shadow blade Shez is so over powered. In hard mode, it can one hit kill armored enemies with with low resistance.  I really liked using Ingrid with her relic and frozen lance. I gave Edelgard the crusher axe. Sylvain is also fun to use. I prefer using units with crests, so they can safely use the relics, with the exception of Shez.
