  1. Meg:

Meg has quite a strange build for an armour knight and has a great speed growth...but suffers in strength and defence. Coming as a level 3 with mediocre bases means she'll forever play catch up and in my eyes defeats the purpose as a tank who cannot tank. The fact Meg arrives with growths similar to a weak myrmidon beg the question; why would I bother when I can use two of my other myrmidons in the team with better stats, growths, skills and movement for less investment?

You have to put so much into Meg to make her a usable unit and I'd much prefer to have a 20/20/20 Edward than a 20/20/20 Meg anyway. 3/10

    Volug

Volug is a character that if trained well can last you from the chapter he joins all the way up to the start of endgame. As he joins he'll be able to kill everything with the exception of fire mages and although he lacks 1-2 range it's probably for the best so he doesn't sap too much XP from the rest of the Dawn Brigade. Part I all he needs to do is focus on hitting the S Strike rank which; shouldn't be too difficult and he'll perform his role just as good as any other Jeigan. Part III Volug then gains full control of his shift gauge which is much more managable than cats, slap resolve and beastfoe on him for 3-6 and maybe a bit of BEXP and he'll fly through levels if you manage his HP accordingly. Volug then joins Ikes army IIRC for Part IV and assuming he's been given a bit of support until now he'll run through just about anything.

Oh, and did I mention he has earth affinity too? The best affinity in the entire game? 9/10 (gauge and the initial investment cost him a 10/10 rank)

  2. Ilyana:

Sadly she's over looked and has issues in areas like speed, skill and weapon utility but she does have some redeeming qualities in PoR boosts. Ilyana with boosts is fairly decent in normal mode and if you can somehow scrape together funds for an expensive forged thunder tomb she can retain usefulness after moving over to the Greil Mercenaries too. Is all this effort worth it for Ilyana? Probably not, the Greil mercenaries don't need the extra muscle and they have a valuable mage in Soren anyway; so although Ilyana can turn out quite useful it's probably not worth the effort in a team that doesn't actually need another low level mage. Ilyana can turn out quite well, has a decent crit rate and has access to the RexBolt tomb which is good for the one dragon chapter I guess.

Ilyana can actually prove useful and I think I'd rate her much higher if she stayed with the DB but alas she does not; so in the interest of considering both NM/HM I'll give her an overall rating of 4.5 (6.0 with transfers).

    Aran:

Aran is the type of unit I really wanted to turn out good and with the right investment he turns out pretty sweet...But nothing incredible. Aran starts out with some nice tanky stats but rather low hitpoints, this really affects his tanking utility and is very noticeable on hard mode. He's going to struggle to double literally anything and that's going to continue to be his problem throughout his lifespan due to that 35% speed growth and 1 speed gain on promotion; what's even worse is that he's completely overshadowed by Nephenee in this class so if you choose not to use Royals then Nephenee is going to be your first choice over this chump. Aran is also going to need a forge immediately if he hopes to hit/kill anything which although it isn't a heavy investment; could still be utilised by someone like Nolan or Jill first.

Aran can perform quite well in chapters like 3-6 but on NM+ He's not going to dodge anything and he certainly won't be doubling any cats, tigers are also going to hurt him quite badly so he's "meh" even at best. For front line characters just stick with Nolan, Jill, Zihark, Volug and Sothe.

  3. Can Micaiah split into two and heal two units at once? Cause that'd be a neat trick. ...What was that? She can't? Then I fail to see how Micaiah obsoletes Laura when she alone ain't enough to keep your army healthy. What's more, by the time Micaiah promotes, Laura's gonna have the staff rank for Physic if you made even the slightest attempt to use her (Physic is C and Laura starts at D). And as for your part 4 argument, (1) two of those healers you mentioned (Mist and Elincia) are route locked, and (2) with the mages not exactly being amazing in this game, it's not a guarantee that you're going to have an arch sage (mentioning Soren was also a mistake, because he's route locked as well).

It's an opinion and we're all entitled to them. You quoted another user and complained about their choices too and suggested Gatrie is a better unit than Boyd; personally I disagree but I don't feel the need to call you out on it and tell you that you're wrong for a myriad of different subjective reasons.

I mentioned that Micaiah can heal, healing items are very useful in this game compared to other versions and that Laura can sometimes prove to be a liability. The point can be made to keep her out of range but at times that can be tricky, such as chapter 1-8 where there are wyvern riders and terrain effects; on harder difficulties I tend to bench her as soon as I can. Micaiah also obsoletes Laura in the sense she is a better overall character from my perspective, if in my mind Micaiah is a 5.5/10 I wouldn't feel comfortable rating Laura a 6 or, whatever value you think I should have rated her at.

You also mentioned if I bothered to train Laura she would have rank c in staves by the time Micaiah promotes; Micaiah gains C Staves upon promotion so that's not an issue.

You mentioned that two healer units are route locked in Part IV; actually it's three and they're all route locked to different routes and Soren being route locked isn't a big deal because I can put Rhys on one of the other two teams if I feel they need it and Rhys will also have the staff rank for Physic and is much easier to train than Laura.

Mentioning Soren wasn't a mistake, it frees Rhys up to do other things if needed and Soren can help a lot with his high magic to cure units like Ike if they get put to sleep in Oliver's mansion.

There's plenty of versatility without Laura and I don't want to spark a debate on this thread just giving you my reasoning for what you've stated, Laura is by no means an essential character and that's just what I rated her as; though she is by no means without her merits.

  4. Laura:

A staffbot which ensures she'll always have utility but Laura has her own issues within the game. Firstly Micaiah is a forced unit within the game who gains staves on promotion and has the unique "Sacrifice" ability which allows her to heal own allies HP/Status at the cost of her own HP and this grants 10xp a cast. Laura not only has to compete with Micaiah but keep up with her as well, at 11x a standard heal and not much more from other staves she's going to struggle to promote by the end of part I; especially as she arrives at level 1. Throughout part I Laura will most likely get 1HKO'd and isn't going to bring much as Vulernaries heal 20hp in this game and Concotion's heal 40hp! - this is on a team where pretty much everyone needs shielding and experience.

Throughout part III even if you boost Laura with BEXP she's still going to be too frail to do anything because most of the dawn brigade's chapters are now going to be filled with either Laguz or the Greil Mercenaries; at the same time Laura is going to be even less useful as Micaiah will gain access to Physic staves which will solve any need for healing utility.

Part IV is even less useful for Laura and she'll stand out less; she's never going to keep up with the arch sages you probably have by now like Soren (Who can also heal) and you'll also have units like Mist, Elincia and Rhys who can heal just as well if not better than Laura.

She has her uses and utility, use her in the part I chapters where she's required and bench her after that.

3.5/10 - I just can't justify giving a unit that's so frail, contributes no DPS value, arrives under leveled and who's role can already be performed by a forced Micaiah; a higher rank than... Micaiah!

    Sothe:

Sothe is a really nice Jeigan character but with a ton of utility. Sothe can steal and pick locks and chests with ease and also comes with a higher movement range than the rest of the Dawn Brigade which is useful especially when chests in these chapters contain things like "Thani" and "Energy drop". Sothe also brings Bronze Daggers which give him a 0% chance of landing a critical hit and reduced damage levels; allowing boosting EXP relatively easy and this is definitely appreciated by the rest of the Dawn Brigade.

Sothe also has quite a varied use of weapons, high damage weapons with a decent critical hit rate like Kard's and 1-2 weapons like knives which can be thrown; beast killers are also readily available for chapters with Laguz which makes Sothe seemingly unstoppable. He even comes with an A support with Micaiah and can be utilised with POR transfers for even greater stats. Daggers aren't the best weapons but Sothe comes at a time where his stats can compensate for this and he can breeze through earlier chapters.

He does have his flaws, forced deployment in endgame of part IV and a forced promotion late into the game really destroy the potential for this character; alongside level caps and weapons but he performs his Jeigan role well. I also like the character so I'm going to add in .5 bias

    8.5/10

  5. Leonardo:

Leonardo is one of those units who never really works even if you give him capital investment because his potential is usually less than other units. Leonardo like all archers lacks an 1-2 return in EP and comes in looking quite frail and never really recovers from it. Leonardo lacks speed and none of his other stats are defying laws either. Leonardo can turn out okay if you give him resources but in a party that doesn't have resources to spare he's not entitled to take them over units like Jill and Nolan so it's not even worth considering. Leonardo just get a weapon that addresses his obvious speed issues but it's not until the lions share of DB chapters have been completed and he's hardly going to be a candidate for a part IV team when there are other units that can do his crappy job better, like Shinon.

    3/10

    Nolan:

Nolan has a strange setup for a fighter but oddly it works. Nolan has certain issues such as strength and speed growths but with a bit of love and care he can usually turn out pretty great. Some people like to compare Nolan to Boyd but I tend not to as both characters perform roles well for both parties without either leeching EXP from the other; part IV endgame is only a small portion to what both characters contribute throughout the entire game. Nolan also has an earth affinity with two candidates to pair up with, Zihark or Volug which can allow him up to +45 avoid which gives him and another character a fantastic amount of durability; both Volug and Zihark are front line characters which means these charactesr can actually make use of their supports. Nolan is also a character who on numerous occasions has been my MVP for the Dawn Brigade and never tends to slow down once he gets his momentum going, he's a character that has great availability and can actually stand toe-to-toe with some of the Greil Mercenaries without fear of getting 1RKO.

Nolan is a unit that performs his role well and will sometimes have a slow start but the Dawn Brigade will make use of him either way.

    8.5/10

  6. Haven't caught up to a lot of things yet so just going to comment on part I.

Ilyana, honestly the most balancing thing you can do here is keep her with the Dawn Brigade as they don't have any mage unit apart from Micaiah who sucks anyway and can't risk combat. Of course, people will complain she can't carry things over to the GM that way (Which I don't think they really need anyway) so perhaps make it a choice option like pelleas?

Tauroneo. You buffed him to make him more useable in late game but his unit class is never going to make him usable in late game. I think the best thing to do as a balance is to reduce his unit level and stats so he can leave units close to dead with weaker weaponry and allow for chip units to get some easier levels. He'll still be able to ORKO units, just with the use of silver weaponry instead.

Fiona. Why would you make her a soldier? That gives you both the choice of Aran or of Fiona. She'd also not have enough strength to kill anything but would be super tanky and speedy and then on the other hand you'd have Aran who will be a bit tankier and physically stronger but too slow.

  7. @Levant to be honest, all light magic is terrible in this game but Rhys was necessary early on.

Whewww, been so busy but I still wanna get this run complete so here we are!

    Chapter 16: The search begins!

    4d3801f269.png

You have to feel sorry for Reyson in this scene, first his entire race get's killed by humans and then he gets sold out by the Laguz to this creep.

    21099aecde.png

    Boyd FTW!

    793e784fb6.png

Soren you suck so much lmao

    3d37394c66.png

Worth it for the killer lance, I want Nephenee to start levelling up at this stage.

    2cc2172d44.png

Usually this always go to Reyson so I wanted to try something different.

    21b9703a85.png

    OP.

    3286278eaf.png

This decision I regret, I should have given it to someone useful instead.

    127107a971.png

Boyd is incredibly strong at the moment but when he starts to fall back a little bit at least he'll have this to help him out.

    e7a2432945.png

I doubt this will make a difference but he seemed like the best person for this to go to, I have no intention to give Soren flare.

    767c80fd75.png

Devdan hears the sound of battle before I even deploy anyone. Not only does devdan have the strength of 10 men but he also has psychic abilities to see into the future, intersting...

    51c3f9240e.png

So I decide to give Boyd/Gatrie/Mordecai the bench for this fight, they'll have a lot to do in the next fight and for now I need these current units to level up for day breaks.

    f63d0a463d.png

Never mind I had a change of thought.

    6dc9ca36eb.png

Volke getting fed some kills, it's going to be a pain in the ass to try and get him to level 20 before promotion.

    f4c9fb750a.png

    The curse is spreading...

    b4ce026b88.png

Ilyana is still able to double after all this time, colour me impressed!

    23cc395c2a.png

    PogChamp!

    31acb87c59.png

Zihark picks up a gamble from one of the enemy soldiers, personally I think this is best suited to Rolf in my team but I'll think it over a bit first.

    fa83996d38.png

Getting Rolf to Devdan the quick way is a bit risky but Rolf is actually a bit of a tank, I feel confident.

    2b9b93e90e.png

Oh for gods sakes Zihark gain some strength already.

    f463991e2e.png

Brom meanwhile is well :/ still not ORKO or going to double anything with his stats, but he is gaining.

    6c5a4a694c.png

Mordecai by far the strongest unit deployed

    7946002473.png

The saving grace gaining another fantastic level up!

    c7c7436695.png

I've just noticed now but wow Devdan has such a fantastic jawline.

    ad263b374c.png

Another solid level up from Rolf, that skill is great if I want to give him that gamble scroll we spoke of earlier.

    006d6ba445.png

The animation for this is spectacular, much better than the standard fire tombs

    e040d970e8.png

More magic which is a given, still needing more speed to double though Rhys.

    7d67479d1f.png

Wow, okay Nephenee I take back what I said earlier you are redeemed! :)

    a41bb24a99.png

This is going to come in very handy for Rhys, I can't allow him to get in range of multiple enemies anymore so healing from a distance is quite useful.

    7ff2e06725.png

A pretty useless level up from the fireman but I'll take what I can get outta it.

    41a0482268.png

Ahh, I'm not even suprised anymore. Soren's gonna do what Soren's gonna do.

    a6abd679cf.png

DAMNIT! I gave him an energy drop too.

    6c71179ed2.png

Good level up Mia, Zihark needs to be doing the same or I think I may have to bench him which would be a shame.

    e7b2bd0b9c.png

    lol

    5727296c33.png

Wow! After a class change Soren might be back on track to hit his averages again.

    922a5065fa.png

YUSSSS #CLEARED! Up next, Day Breaks! which took quite a few restarts and team management to do.

  8. Volug and Reyson obviously have dibs on this. Volug would basically trash everything in his way and gain strikes quicker which he wouldn't really need until part IV anyway, while Reyson would refresh 4 units and canto away every single turn of every single map and that's a 10/10 unit from me.

Then next in the list of demand would be Ranulf seeing as he struggles with transform gauge due to being a cat as well as being forced. He'd ORKO everything anyway so I don't see the point in bringing Mordecai around too especially when his gauge issues are nowhere near as bad as Ranulfs.

It would seem wasted on Gareth/Nasir and there seems little point putting it on Kurthnaga/Ena due to their availability. Skrimir also falls down on the pecking order because he's around for two chapters before he get's replaced by laguz royals with superior stats/strike levels than him.

TL;DR I'd put it on Volug or Reyson...or if not either of those it'd go to Ranulf because he's forced and has issues with his gauge.

  9. Honestly...I never imagined the dark god having a physical being and was more just an evil entity, it's essence being captured inside the medallion.

I always thought the dark god would rise and take control of Ashnard through the medallion just due to the evil look he had and his motives. I wasn't really happy with how it turned out to be Ashera that was the final boss and Yune was on our side, I think it would have been much cooler if it got to Part IV - E-4 and Sephiran was the final boss. I mean I think it could work, having Sephiran dramatically reveal he was infact Lehran or Ike slowly came to realize it after his fight with Zelgius. As for being the final boss, Lehran becoming the embodiment for the Dark God and was controlled that way. I just think it would be kind of ironic, Yune blessing Ike's Ragnell to help strike down the man who sealed her in the medallion :P.

...Much better than the boss fight we get with him where he just stands there with his Tomb and pretty much just falls over and kisses the floor once you take out his barriers.

Ashera just looked really bland too, no emotion or anything like that and I never felt really excited or into the story at that point like I did with Path of Radiance. When Ashnard touched the medallion on hard mode and transformed for a second beatdown, I was excited and scared at the same time. I mean look at this brute!

    4427ded097.png

  10. Reyson because I find him enjoyable and the most relateable out of all the herons.

    Ilyana

    Naesala

    Shinon

    Soren

Volug > Nailah due to support

    Nephenee sometimes

    Nolan

Either Zihark/Mia/Edward or more usually Zihark or Mia on Hard mode.

    Boyd

This spot is usually open and tends to go to Tibarn or someone else I want to bring along. Sometimes a non laguz royal with an S or SS strike.

  11. Chapter 15: Two steps at a time!

    1dcb8c2098.png

Wow 10,000? The Apostle pays well! That's a forge plus a little bit on top!

    169bc8ee53.png

Jeez, why can't Boyd make friends?

    cecf88a2e3.png

    Boyd STAHP IT!

    328a9afb41.png

Good job Boyd, you've made captain sideburns cry.

    98a0f9c5ef.png

Still won't double anything and can't take a hit :/ Why am I investing BEXP into you !

    62cfa9490b.png

Your level ups haven't been great...So consider this a bit of a shove :)

    dc852fc92e.png

I've also never used Volke before so I want that to change.

    02ca7c01f3.png

    Killer bow enabled !

    420b32e324.png

I completely forgot about Lethe and now immediately regret this decision.

    b3b91eec01.png

Seems like a solid investment, It was either him or Muarim and this is a casual run so I don't mind how it goes.

    68b4910c0c.png

    271b66e0c8.png

I want to keep using Ilyana and she seems a good investment.

    8b4c6988e3.png

    This was stupid AF though...

Moving onto the map though and as you've no doubt figured out by now I don't much care for BEXP.

    d89dec6e44.png

Although Gatrie hits like this he can't move more than 1 square at a time so he's pretty much rooted :(

    4199b06624.png

    PogChamp!?

    23b0b506dd.png

Yeah I forgot to mention...Rolf went to the local dealer and bought 4 doses of energy drops and chugged them back to back.

    454c119f0b.png

The strength is nice at least. We still have some speed issues but I'm hoping to get those worked out.

    110002ced2.png

Lethe on her way to Stefan, I'm glad she gained speed because once she stops doubling she's near enough just chip damage at that point. I'm glad she has a steady growth.

    c987440ff3.png

Speed growth after a speedwing transforms Mordecai into a doubling machine :D Keep up the good work Mordy!

    841d7247ca.png

The best Swordsmaster has shown his face at last! Yey for Stefan.

    688cf05013.png

Rolf's growths are fantastic lately, I'm not having to rush to promote him. Even if Shinon returns at Chapter 18 he's still going to be sub-par compared to Rolf.

    0418ea5a1c.png

    STOP TORTURING ME!!!

    1f2f9aa07c.png

...Sigh I may have to bench Zihark.

    865898cdcb.png

Volke is being a team player and grabbing everything for the onvoy.

    109591d7e0.png

Strength now > Speed at last. Things are reverting to normal.

    7045c29c73.png

I made a big mistake with these :D You'll see in the upcoming chapters.

    18c57941ab.png

I never realized Laguz could talk while transformed, or at least this conversation suggets that anyway.

    9a3c65f236.png

    Nice!

    d54ff66903.png

    Easy 10,000 gold made!

    508345324b.png

    Ilyana levels up on Muarim

    1ab1c1e1aa.png

...And get's the KO! Well deserved!

  12. I facepalmed too hard I'm not even going to bother arguing anymore.

    Snowy Logic

Mia - Use Mage band/energy drop/spirit dust/Rhys A support/Wrath scroll (Which has Ike's name on it for hard mode anyway)/Sonic Sword

Zihark - Can't have one of the three strength boosting bands, too in demand.

Yet Zihark supporters are hypocrite's. Mind = BLOWN!

  13. Because this isn't about Mia vs. Nephenee. It's about Mia vs. Zihark. Nephenee is pretty solidly better than both all around.

No as I said this is about your entire playthrough revolving around Mia. I was showing we can get a better all around unit for a cheaper cost if you want that kind of build which is why it doesn't seem worth it to invest so much on Mia.

There is a massive difference, however, between talking about the various resource allocations and outright ignoring why Mia's innate vantage is important as well as ignoring hard numbers in her support values and the like.

Rhys is not a valuable support, he's a restart hazard. Ilyana is decent I suppose but not a game changer and won't "Always" be in the vicinity as Mia and no ones inisting on Muarim being in the same chapters as Zihark?

I agree with your case for Mia, to an extent. Someone says "Mia has no offense" and you reply with give her an energy drop which is a fair point...Until the argument for 1-2 range occurs and you suggest giving Mia a mage band for the sonic sword...Well...You only just made up the strength deficit on Mia a moment ago by giving her the energy drop to her which only just "evens" her strength out to Ziharks on average

There is no strength deficit. The difference between Mia and Zihark is ~2-3 ATT post promo with a +4 for Mia for her supports. If anything the deficit is on Zihark's side.

    There is no deficit !? http://serenesforest.net/path-of-radiance/characters/average-stats/zihark/With a strength boosting band (Preferbly Knight or Wyvern but fighter will also work in a pinch) Zihark caps strength by level 20/16-20/17 on average which gets him to level 24 strength. Mia http://serenesforest.net/path-of-radiance/characters/average-stats/mia/ with her "Mage" band that you argue to give her won't even cap strength by level 20/20 on average and if we give her an energy drop she caps it by 20/17 for a strength level of 22, still two less than Zihark. The Rhys A support does NOT make up this deficit because of;

    A) Not being a consistant level of attack boost for Mia

    B) Putting Rhys in a vulnerable position where he can be ORKO'd and in need of meatshielding

    C) Not actually kicking in until until multiple more chapters down the road

    D) Taking up a valuable spot on the team that can easily be filled by someone better than him

And before you go off on one...ZIHARK DOES NOT NEED A MUARIM SUPPORT TO BE USEFUL. Just because we're saying Rhys isn't worth deploying next to Mia every chapter of the game doesn't mean we are going to deploy Muarim for Ziharks sake, although he is a great unit for mid game; much like Rhys is great early game.

Being 'outclassed' by one unit is hardly a reason to ditch Rhys, especially since Rhys does bring something unique to the table and is still very usable come endgame. In fact, if you want to play the 'most units will only be 20/10' card Rhys becomes more valuable because, due to staves, he'll be one of the few 20/20 units. Regardless, Muarim is far inferior on the whole once the late-game comes around and silver weapons become the norm. I don't see how its fair to penalize Mia and remove her Rhys support and say the SS doesn't matter to her because Mist can use the SS better then let Zihark have a Muarim support and Vantage when Nephenee uses it better.

One unit? Soren, Mist, Ilyana and heck even Tormod can do a good job if you sink EXP into him. Let's not pretend Rhys is "Unique" he heals with staves...Has weak magic tombs and can't double. How is he a better unit than the aforementioned units? Specifically Ilyana and Soren. Oh and a 20/20 Rhys...What's the point I mean honestly? He's still just healing with staves...

You always bring up Muarim, no one is saying dont give Mia a Rhys support and give Zihark a Muarim support although it is a much more viable option because he's a solid unit for midgame. Zihark doesn't need a Muarim support, take away the supports and pin them on stats alone and Zihark is the better unit. Zihark doesn't even need a vantage scroll either, he can dodge enough to survive!

Zihark is going to dodge pretty much everything, As could Mia! Which is why I don't understand the over-emphasis on vantage here?

The issue is that Mia with, say, guard and vantage effectively boosts her EP dodge rate by something like an additional 50 points, potentially far more if given a +crit weapon. But it's also an issue of double-standards. Zihark is allowed to get a vantage (because he uses it best) while Mia getting even Guard is disputed. Zihark is given a Muarim support despite him being poor coming endgame due to cruddy weapons and transform problems while Mia has to fight for Rhys to get fielded because, despite having siege abilities, magic ranged damage (always useful), and the always nice staff usage. Zihark's chance to adept a foe once or twice on the Player Phase is a massive positive point in his favor while Mia's ability to stop a foe in their tracks on every EP is laughed at as people tote Adept's damage... despite no sane person willingly attacking someone who couldn't be 2HKO'ed without another viable option. Tanith rocks with the SS to the point where Mia isn't even in the running... despite that Mia can easily end up tying or surpassing Tanith in MAG even by her joining point. It's a constant battle against whitewashing and hypocrisy with Zihark supporters as they are more than willing to argue every advantage in favor of Zihark and every disadvantage against Mia.

Where have I said any of those things? Also Rhys having siege abilities? ...He has 5 uses and the Hammerne could easily be used on any of the other Siege tombs so you can't really play that card. Magic ranged damage we have a ton of users to do that in the aforementioned quote as well as all those units also being able to use staves! That's the issue with using Rhys. Using Rhys instead of any of the other mage users/Mist is like arguing to use Shinon as your bow user when he gets back over Astrid. The Sonic Sword? 20 uses. Useless. Vantage? Useful in some aspects but only if you can get a critical when it actives and that critical is enough to stop an opponent where they stand. I'm also not saying that Adept is a better skill than Vantage, just that I feel Zihark is better in other ways than Skills and forced supports.

Second, Mia's Strength woes mean that unless I'm fielding and supporting her with an outclassed unit who has rock-bottom durability, she probably won't be killing many enemies with one critical hit. Those, among other reasons, are why I see Zihark as better.

Yet you're willing to deploy Ilyana (who is frail and requires supports with questionable units) and Muarim (who ends up trapped with steel weapons and struggling against the transform meter) in order to bolster Zihark. Fun fact. A demibanded Muarim has only 2 more speed than Rhys and loses an MT battle against a 20/10 Mia, whom you just said is too weak to kill with a X3 damage multiplier. Of course, since Zihark would be tying Mia I'm guessing Zihark can't kill much either.

Check it. Mia at 20/10 has 17 base STR, +4 supports, +13 silver sword +5 forge for a total of 39.

    Zihark at 20/10 has 19.55 which I'll round up to 20, +1 support from a B Brom, +13 silver sword, +5 forge for a total of 39.

Muarim at 20/20 has 24 base, +4 demi transform, and +9 weapon for a total of 37.

Of course Mia and Zihark can both grow ten more levels. Muarim is capped out.

Muarim doesn't need to be fielded, nor does Brom and of course not Rhys. Zihark would also be wielding a strength boosting band for those levels so really this comes down to...

Mia at 20/10 has 17 base STR + 13 silver sword +5 forge for a total of 35

    Zihark at 20/10 has 20 base STR + STR band + 13 silver sword + 5 forge for a total of 38

Giving no one supports here because apparently all those support units suck.

So yeah...That's 6 damage per fight bonus to Zihark and +9 if he uses adept, this number also skyrockets if he manages to land a Crit! as well.. Zihark also holds a +2 strength lead on Mia from level 17 Mymirdon all the way near enough to endgame and this lead increases even higher seen as Snowy forgoes a strength band for a magic band to use the Sonic Sword which I still consider a gimmick weapon for a swordsmaster. Snowy I can also play around with numbers and make things look in Zihark's favour. Giving Mia the strength boosting band will only take her to 18 base strength so she's still going to be below Ziharks strength. Zihark also caps at 24 strength as opposed to Mia's 22 so she's also going to be playing catch up even when they max.

This is what I mean. Muarim is okay to deploy with Zihark for his damage when he clocks in at LESS than the other two do ten levels lower than him but Mia has to be punished for her low MT despite having the same as Zihark.

Yeah just taken Muarim out and errm...Zihark still damages more. Without throwing everything to Mia she's always going to be less powerful than Zihark. Responses are in bold.

  14. Your entire playthrough just revolves around Mia and you're unable to see past that. Nephenee can do exactly what Mia does at a lower resource cost with higher result.

    - Giving Nephenee Vantage isn't as costly as giving Mia Wrath. The Vantage scroll also appears at chapter 14 as opposed to chapter 18, not forgetting that Day Breaks itself is essentially 4 extra chapters.

    - Nephenee's growths are better than Mia's aside from 5% in speed, which becomes significantly less if we give Nephenee the Knights Ward for a few levels and then switching back to a different band if needed. Mia also wins in resistance and magic. Big woop.

    - Nephenee has access to a stronger weapon as well as 1-2 range.

    - Doesn't need a magic based weapon to kill enemy Generals/Paladins

    - 80%+ Crit rate with killer lance + Wrath

    - Doesn't need an energy drop

    - Given a seraph robe Nephenee can easily be in Wrath! mode without being at too much risk of dying

    - Has access to Knight Ward for increased durability

    - Doesn't need additional units to fall in behind for support bonuses

Now obviously what I've just done is shown shear favouritism to Nephenee and highlighted a few points to make Mia look bad, this is exactly what you're doing with Zihark!

I agree with your case for Mia, to an extent. Someone says "Mia has no offense" and you reply with give her an energy drop which is a fair point...Until the argument for 1-2 range occurs and you suggest giving Mia a mage band for the sonic sword...Well...You only just made up the strength deficit on Mia a moment ago by giving her the energy drop to her which only just "evens" her strength out to Ziharks on average. If we give Zihark a strength boosting band, which let's be honest is the only one he needs; he's got a 15% strength growth higher than her with a higher cap as well. Rhys is also...Not an option to make up this strength deficit when Mist outclasses him as do the other Sage's in our party.

Ignoring Ziharks obvious 20% defense growth and increased HP growth/levels I guess you do have Zihark beaten somewhere...Skills. I'll admit here you have him beat on skills! You will need to combine it with something else to make it viable, pushing that aside though it really doesn't matter too much. Zihark is going to dodge pretty much everything, As could Mia! Which is why I don't understand the over-emphasis on vantage here?

Both are good units, Ziharks just more cost effective in my eyes...

  15. WTF IS THIS? Consistant updates for a change? :)

    Chapter 14: Fog of War!

    159b05a52a.png

Quite glad that Nephenee is already hitting MVP status, the gold situation is also looking very tidy which isn't bad after buying expensive weapon/tomb forges every chapter.

    b8bc4727ed.png

Just incase! I can always remove Shade or Miracle later on if I want Ilyana to learn Flare in the future.

A spear of storms forge for standard thunder and lightning maneuvers.

Ike knew at this moment that Oliver seemed familiar, he just couldn't remember where he had seen him before; then suddenly...

    fc80a31a76.png

    They must never know....

    7268d88353.png

Moving swfitly on! I get volke to search this house for a Spirit Dust and I have to say, I love this chapter. I can't remember where any enemy units were really placed and the Fog of War really got me nervous at times but man this was tons of fun!

    28a7c87ea6.png

    In that case, spread 'em!

    726c0ade0b.png

I definitly want to get this out of the way with Lethe so close by, I know bonus damage isn't anywhere as significant as it is in Radiant Dawn here, but even so I don't want to run the risk.

    3f70070bd1.png

    CYAIDIOT!

    6622ff8b1a.png

    You are pathetic.

    6769439e2f.png

Strength is nice I guess :)

    3046c364b1.png

Lethe's face here is just the perfect reaction to this poor old grandmothers ramblings. Vantage obtained!

    88911e6602.png

Please keep being awesome Nephenee, you are probably my best beorc foot unit behind Gatrie at the moment.

    0598b3cb39.png

This is anyones at the moment, I don't think anyone needs a secret book so it will probably just sit in the convoy.

    8b95b13900.png

Lethe thank you, amazing level up.

    9ab3f9dc74.png

    Plz get killed.

    79bbce78d2.png

Gatrie finally gaining speed thanks to the KW, I'm really happy with this; he has a low speed cap but he's still going to be a meatshield for the entire game.

    d40f38f663.png

Not a great level up but still ending up a solid unit overall.

    77c92cbad0.png

Realistically I could have cleared this chapter in like 4 turns but I was so scared cause of the fog! :) I know those feral laguz and the killer axe berserker are just waiting to jump out at me.

    bfe951c94a.png

Hyaherehhahahah and there's a mage! Plz kill Brom and leave the rest of us alive.

    7f3d2ca312.png

Two words come to mind here, 1-2 range and **** that.

    875e8da6cd.png

Thanks Boyd, I can count on you to get the job done.

    0c16fb5bd3.png

    The plan is working!

    7d168b5fe7.png

Volke sneaks in a level up on the mage.

    722e388e21.png

We risk it and Gatrie lands the hit! Chapter finished! Had Gatrie missed and died to a critical I would have cried.

  16. Vapo I would recommend Puush, I'm not sure if you've ever used it before?

I can upload images within seconds with the use of a hotkey and it will also (If set up correctly) paste the screenshots into a specific folder on my PC which helps keep things nice and tidy, see below.

    47c031ed8c.png

It's a pretty decent piece of software and fairly lightweight, however I've never tried Imgur so can't really compare; failing Puush I know that Greenshot is also a useful screenshotting tool as well. Nice run by the way.

  17. From this point forwarding I'm going to include Soren's reports of the previous battles.

Chapter 13: Thunder Knight Gatrie returns!

    24e8d8c431.png

With how her level ups have gone lately, it's no suprise that Mia received the first MVP award.

    9d2429d1e7.png

Strength is still desperately needed, speed and magic however are welcome level ups. I never understood why Rhys had such godly resistance.

    6f792e6765.png

Ergh, without a Nosferatu tomb I'm not sure how Rhys is expecting to survive any form of combat.

    0cfc402995.png

Brom is an experiment I will later regret, I figured why not.

    d4ba1503aa.png

"Psst! Ike, ask Nasir and Soren why they have matching marks on their faces."

    5645401b7d.png

Whoa! Such language, and from a princess of royalty no less.

    86c850d170.png

Even on Hard Mode Gatrie can practically solo this map apart from the odd mage here and there. A pure water could probably solve that.

    97b98f8892.png

    I like Naesala

    0c2b3e3c5c.png

This is the setup I started with, having Boyd shove Ike and then Mordecai proceeding to smite him allowing a 1st turn talk with Astrid, because if you ever wait till turn two to talk to Astrid this happens.

    5eebbe7708.png

Even with the Knight Ward she sucks.

    1da3bae99e.png

Recruiting on turn 1 actually made keeping Astrid alive manageable, and of course we could get our knight in shining armour back once more!

    e7c0984cc0.png

Ahh yes, manners of course. This coming from the "gentlemen" who left without so much as a goodbye after Ike's father was murdered in cold blood and died in his arms. Cheers Gatrie!

    21c144da65.png

6 chapters later and promoted units still can't damage Gatrie, dang

    1e113bc990.png

It was an experiment, sue me :)

    bbf6c3ea9d.png

    Rhys/10

    af82eaa20c.png

Nephenee on the other hand is getting there slowly.

    01e31b5190.png

For a laguz, this is a great level up. I only hope she keeps this up because she's getting noticable more fragile as the game progresses.

    12ef96e452.png

More defense ;o well, there isn't much rush to promote Gatrie just yet so I guess he can weaken enemies for some of my other units to finish off (Zihark, Ilyana, Soren, Rolf)

    dab0e390f8.png

Good job Ike, keep it up.

    6c273d82ab.png

Rolfs damage is really coming up a lot, I'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out later on.

    8ccc949b42.png

Zihark you're falling behind Mia, big time :(

    df7c162d37.png

Nephenee landed a crit! nonwrath. I'm impressed.

    ec77804d67.png

Wow, good job Rolf. Now if only Zihark/Rhys/Soren could do the same.

    5de8c4055f.png

Boyd gets the first class up and is even beefier than before, for some reason I thought he only got +1 to defense but gaining +2 is amazing, especially considering his defense was quite shakey beforehand. With his forge + 18 strength he's probably going to ORKO anything for the forseeable future.

    aed66534ad.png

"Cut" us down? You're using a bow and arrow! Plus you're going up against the mighty Boyd on Royd's!

    f43130ff0b.png

Nephenee I love you, please keep gaining levels like this.

    3b335b85b2.png

I still haven't decided if I'm going to give this to Ike or not. I definitly want to give one of these to Volke for Lethality.

    cd24f7629f.png

After seeing Gatrie's already mammoth like stats this really doesn't impress me that much.

    9483366fb2.png

Volke's been getting crazy good strength growths for me, shame thieve weapons suck so much in this game.

    5a6d720225.png

This is probably going on Mordecai if I'm honest...

    7b96c6aced.png

Mia is looking like she might cap 5 or so stats at this rate. Probably going to end out better than Stefan too.

    4cdc1c7a60.png

We're alive! I'm not sure what Sigrun's troop can do here seen as we wiped out all the enemies and the raven's already fled but woohoo!
