1. I'm sure it's possible for them to do it. I know a few of the older games are available on the Japanese eShop. Blazing Sword might be a likely candidate if they start selling virtual console GBA titles outside the Ambassador releases. Sword of Seals could see a Japanese release in this manner, but I find it (sadly) unlikely that Nintendo will invest in translating and localizing the NES and SNES era games for a niche market. However, if any of these games were to be remade for modern systems like Shadow Dragon, there's a much better chance that version will see an international release.
2. I'm debating on having my avatar marry Chrom or someone else. I kind of what Cynthia to be Chrom's daughter, mean he'd need to marry Sumia, but I think my avatar and him would make a cute couple as well. Maybe I'll have her marry Vaike. Chrom and my avatar seems almost as cute as Lyn x Florina Sain x Rebecca, my favorite couple in the series.
3. "Leveling Up" has been around since the tabletop days of RPGs. The term itself probably did some from a translation quirk, similar to '1UP' for gaining extra lives in platforming games. By this point these terms have just become so standard in the gaming industry that there's no need to change them to something grammatically correct, since everyone knows what they mean. From what little I've seen of the CN show, it seems to be inspired by various MMO games like World of Warcraft, Ragnarok etc. rather than one in particular.
4. I know how that feels. I had a lot of friends stop playing it after generation 2, but my obsession continued onward. Some of them picked it up again with gens 4 and 5 though. And are you sure? Now that I think of it, he might be a Yu Gi Oh card... or maybe even a Beyblade. I'm really confused now.
5. I've always viewed life and death as going hand in hand, not opposing forces or even one in the absence of another, as they coexist. My example would be the changing of the seasons, whereby plants wither and die in the fall, and winter becomes cold and dark. But in the spring the sunlight returns and life begins anew. It's a never-ending loop. This is the basis of reincarnation, a theme common to many Eastern religions, where life and death together form an endless cycle. Hinduism for example has three major deities, Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer, who while they represent seemingly opposing ideals, are said to be in complete harmony and together form a universal god. According to Hindu belief, Brahma created the universe, while Vishnu watches over it, and eventually Shiva will destroy it, after which Brahma will create the universe once again. It's also noteworthy that Shiva's destruction is associated not with evil but with purification and the renewal of the world. Reincarnation ties into this philosophy, whereby when someone dies they are born again in a new life, be it human or not.
6. I hardly post there these days myself. I never really got into zOMG, though I tried it a couple of times. I used to roleplay there a lot, but I kind of outgrew it as time went by. Nowadays I only go on to keep in touch with a few friends. Thank you! And you must at least be familiar with Pikachu and Ditto, judging by your signature. And the rarest Pokemon of them all, Nigel Thornberry... or is he Digimon? I forget.
7. Everyone seems to be in agreement that Sword of Seals is the hardest game. I've only ever played it once, as opposed to several runs through Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones, so it's hard for me to judge. I definitely had the most character deaths and restarts in that game compared to first runs of the others though. Sacred Stones is by far the easiest game in the series with unlimited maps to train your characters to level 20/20 and the ability to retreat from those fights without penalty (aside from having to start over in the tower/ruins) if things are getting ugly.
8. Honestly I'm not too bummed about the DLC. I'm quite satisfied with the game as it is. With exceptions, I tend to play RPGs for the story and characters rather than 100% completion, so I'm really fine without the extra maps characters and whatnot. I may purchase them if I find myself addicted to the gameplay, which seems likely at this point. Personally I don't feel compelled to buy and play all the extra content to feel as though I've "beaten" the game. This is nothing at all like many MMORPGs that are 'free' to play, but if you want to have even a decently strong character, you need to shell out a good amount of money for gear and such (I'm looking at you, Maplestory).
9. This isn't just limited to games. Services like iTunes, Netflix, and Kindle have been in this business for a while and if anything video games are a little late to jump onto the bandwagon. Physical copies in general are being slowly phased out, though I can't see them going completely extinct for a long time. The thing with downloaded media is that it saves the developers money that would be spent on hardware and packaging, and yes, also preventing people from buying used copies. I have very mixed feelings about this, knowing that many gamers, especially children can't afford to buy games new and rely on used ones aside from gifts. It could hurt the market terribly, as well as ruin the public opinion of Sony and Microsoft if they were to ban used games on their console. While I don't see this as a realistic decision for the companies to make, it would certainly be a by-product of pushing downloadable game sales. The plus side to this model however, is that there will never be shipping problems or shortages of a particular game, since any number of people can download it. Also, so long as the servers are maintained the game will be buyable for years to come without scouring over eBay just to pay $100+ for a used copy of a rare older game (I'm looking at you, Suikoden II). If one get's the urge to play a "retro" game, they can be obtained easily, often at a low price. Amazon already offers a wonderful download service for PC games in this respect.
10. Multiple difficulty settings seems to be the trend with FE these days, so that's likely to feature in this as well. I'd gather the real challenge will be mixing elements from the different series until we get used to them. The thought of Ike summoning demons with a computer or something is already a little jarring to me, but we'll just have to see how this plays out.
11. Yeah, I tend to do that. It's an old habit of mine from Gaia Online to keep from cluttering roleplaying threads. And I don't believe we've met before. Thanks for the welcomes.
12. Hi there and thanks! Pokemon is like, my live... well... I'm obsessed with it! Pichu is really cute, but I think Eevee is cuter.
13. I was expecting to see a crossover with another IS franchise before this like Panel De Pon, Wars, or even Paper Mario, but I have high hopes for this, after seeing how good Pokemon Conquest was. I think crossover games like this can potentially be very good if the right amounts of time and effort are put into them by the developers. My hope is that this doesn't become a crappy game that rides on name recognition, as often happens with crossover titles. All in all, I'll be keeping my eye on updates, though a little voice in the back of my mind makes me think this will be a Japan exclusive.
14. If anyone else as hyped as I am for the upcoming game? It's been several years since the last installment was released, and I'm honestly glad to see Maxis / EA finally veering away from the Sims franchise and going back to the what started it all. I was lucky enough to try the close dbeta and needless to say I was more than impressed with what I go. I've already preordered the game and I'll be looking forward to March 5th. All the nostalgia from my childhood is flooding back and getting me really excited. This would also be a place to discuss the older Sim City games: Classic, 2000, 300, 4, and DS.
15. My favorite lord is Eliwood. Roy was one of my best characters in Smash Bros, and I got used to him more easily than I did Marth. I really liked Eliwood as a character, and though he starts out much weaker than Hector and Lyn, his promoted form is totally badass. I'm in love with Lyn as well, but I often wish she had the critical bonus of a Swordmaster. Then gain, that might get a little cheap with bows. I also though Ike was pretty cool, but when you have an uncle in real life with that name as well, it sometimes feels a bit awkward.
16. Most of that stuff wasn't built yet when I went last, and I guess that's the same in your case as well. I was at Disneyland in California a couple of years ago, but it's not as big and 'magical' as the resort in Florida (still loads of fun though). I didn't even know they had waterparks there now. The only thing that I really remember from my first trip there other than the Magic Kingdom was that the monorail went right inside the hotel that we stayed in. You probably know what I'm talking about, because I can't for the love of me remember what it was called.
17. Thank you! It's been sitting on my computer for ages. I'm not sure where it came from, but I'm really glad I found a use for it. Yup. I really like FiM. It's also something my daughter and I can watch together and both enjoy. The Hub is one of our favorite networks, also because it airs stuff from my childhood like Animaniacs that we also enjoy together. I played with MLP toys somewhat as a kid, and my friend had a ton of them. We also had a few of the cartoons on VHS, but I don't remember much about it other than what I've rewatched lately on Youtube. And you're really lucky! We actually have plans to go to Disney World ourselves this summer. It will be my daughter's first time, and my first time in sixteen years, so we're all really excited.
18. When I was growing up I lived on a farm and my parents had a miniature horse, if it counts for anything. She's still alive, though she's rather old now. I'm also a fan of a certain animated TV show about ponies that you've probably at least heard of. I do actually. They're my favorite legendary trio, as a group anyway. My favorite legendary is Suicune, but I'm not too keen on Entei and Raikou's designs. I named my musketeer trio Mickey, Donald, and Goofy for obvious reasons.
19. Tell me you read comics and stage epic toy train crashes and I'll think you're a clone of me. Loving Zelda and Mario here too. Keldeo is adorable, but I think Victini is cuter. He's one of my favorites though. Too late for that. They were yummy too.
20. I haven't gotten that far yet, though now I'm going to make every effort to pair Chrom with Sumia rather than my Tactician. Until then, all I can say is..... I doubt that's a pop culture reference in the game, but still. That line is awesome.
21. Dang you're lucky to get the game early. Anyway, welcome to SF! I've started playing Awakening as well, and I'm totally hooked. Be sure to have a good time, and feel free to drop me a PM if you want a friend or just to randomly chat.
22. My history with the series is kind of funny, and intertwined with both Smash Bros and Pokemon. I first heard of FE through Marth and Roy in Melee, like many folks stateside. Roy was one of my mains in that game (I'm a little bummed that he wasn't in Brawl, but that's off topic), and I thought Marth's design was cool as well. Anyway, I did a little research on the series, and was disappointed to learn that none of the games had an international release. I saw a few screenshots of the games, but the language barrier kept me away. At the time ROM hacks and fan translations were still young and I wasn't able to find something I could play. I gave up on the series and sort of 'forgot' about it until a couple of years later. The first FE title that I played was Blazing Sword (Simply called Fire Emblem at the time), again like many Americans. I discovered it by chance while at Toys R Us for a Pokemon TCG League session (yes, I was in that dorky Pokemon League ) Anyway, I picked the game up on an impulse buy and the rest was history. I became captivated by the game, and the series as a whole has only gotten better with age. My favorite aspect of FE is each and every player unit's depth of character, lacking 'generic' units that are common to tactical RPGs. Each and every installment since has taken this further.
23. You don't know me since I just joined yesterday, but welcome back! I hope you have a good time here. Feel free to drop me a message if you need a friend or just want someone to randomly chat with.
24. Thank you! And we'll see about that. She's not as big of a gamer as me, but she likes some. We play Pokemon together, and oddly enough I managed to get her into FE. She's more into puzzle games than RPGs though. Go figure. My favorite Pokemon is actually Flareon, but that picture was sitting on my computer and it was just so cute that i had to use it! Of course Eevee gets a big honorable mention since it's the base form.
25. It depends on how much I like the game personally, how many of my friends are into it, and how big the bragging rights for 100% completion are. Pokemon, being one of my personal favorites, I often do take the time to battle every trainer, complete all the bonus/ optional areas and catch 'em all. I'll pick up a game again months later if I hear about a special Pokemon giveaway. Most games on the other hand I simply play for the story, doing my best to get the 'good' ending if a game has multiple endings. However, if I really found myself immersed in the gameplay I will sometimes take the time and effort to 100% complete it. I really enjoyed Sacred Stones as an example, and I managed to completely clear the Creature Campaign, unlock Lyon, and get all my units to the max level.
