That's just the experimentation part. Then there is the getting your research put into books etc that also reminds me of some magic in stories where magi write tomes for like, associations of magic. That also reminds me of magical authorities that forbid experimentation on people etc that is similar to science's ethics organisation. Things like bionic limbs remind me of Touko Aozaki's research in Kara no Kyokai. Robotics is like Alice Margatroid of touhou's dolls etc.
