  1. Generally through sound editing magic. Your question reminds me of the StarCraft Protoss voice sound effect. Here is a video on how to replicate it:

But for when a character is thinking something, a lot less magic is needed to convey the message - a common trick is to muffle the other sounds of the scene and then play the thought line at normal volume.

  2. Well, the answer is pretty simple - the writers simply have to stop using melodrama as a substitute for the character development of villains (and other Fire Emblem characters, too). Now that I think about it, I realize that Awakening never focused upon character change - everyone just stuck to their gimmicky personalities even though Validar hit the fan and everything was going to Grima. Perhaps if the Awakening characters significantly changed through the development of the story, writers would be forced to make the plot deeper. I was hoping that Fates was going to improve upon Awakening in this regard, but from what I have been hearing about the game, I think I would be better off keeping my expectations for the game low.

  3. I don't particularly love or hate thieves. In some maps, you cannot do without them in order to fulfill certain objectives like steal loot or plunder chests.

As fighting units, I prefer using swordmasters over promoted thieves, though I played Fire emblem 7 and 8, not 9 and 10. I feel that swordmasters generally have better combat stats than assassins in general and the crit bonus is a lot more reliable than silencer is. I level thieves enough just to be fast enough or to survive hits, but I leave the real fighting to beefier, and stronger characters.

  4. Don't overlevel Marcus and train your weaker units. Roy is your boy. :Kappa:

Beyond that, I recommend learning more about the game by actually playing it. Funner to explore on your own IMO. If you want to play perfectly through the first time, then just read walkthroughs and watch play-throughs.

  5. Obviously, the people who get seizures easily enough to be triggered by ambulance lights are securely stowed away in their safe space bubbles.

Though, humoring you, if people were actually getting seizures from them, wouldn't it be kind of like the parable of the broken window? Inb4 Pokemon company being sponsored by medical insurance companies to make that seizure episode. :P:

  6. Bad Point: can't internet despite

Anything else? I may play anything but I'm not good at any of them

You forgot "4x weak to a kick in the nuts".

Those fighting types don't mess around, man. Watch out especially for Mega-Lucario! :Kappa:

Anyways, welcome to the forums! :D:

  7. Hey but I imagine people didn't complain about you talking TOO much or at inappropriate times, right? :P:

If you keep on acting like you are excited and engaged by stuff that happens around you, perhaps faking it will cause you to start making it. I was not always comfortable being the loudmouth, and in my experience, practice made perfect for me. "Developing a personality" will eventually become second-nature as you develop habits to make that behavior easier to do. But as a talkative person myself, I can assure you that there are definite pro's to shutting up sometimes. ;):

  8. Making more focused games=/=samey.

Just look at nearly the entire series beforehand. Even games that used the same engine played differently, and without this 'identity crisis'.

Fire Emblem games getting too samey was never a problem.

Well, yeah. Each Fire Emblem game in the series were different games from each other despite all being Fire Emblem games because of differences in aspects such as level design, game mechanics, and mood.

Change is what has driven this series, and I see Fates merely as a continuation of that trend.

  9. Well, think on the flipside here. If Intelligent Systems cranked out Fire Emblem games that all played the same, everyone would be complaining about Fire Emblem being repetitive like the Mario platformer series. It's interesting to see this game experiment with silly features and it gives me quite a laugh hearing about them. Perhaps if they refined their techniques, the Fire Emblem developers could use what they learned from these two games to create a game with a new, yet still delightful feel to it.

Anyways, no need to get so worked up over the Fire Emblem team not making the exact game you wanted. Intelligent Systems can do whatever it wants to do with the games it creates and there are already many excellent Fire Emblem titles out there already.

  10. I'd like to see Dr. Mario buffed! He feels a lot less potent than his original, which feels like a bummer as Mario's fun gameplay sets a would-be-high expectation for the Doctor.

Not sure who I'd really like to see nerfed. I guess I'm used to the way the top tier characters feel right now, and that if I can't beat them, its probably an issue with my gameplay. This is coming from a Yoshi main who gets trounced by low-tier characters who know what they are doing, though...
