Two ended up coming (enemies will start to come if you are close to outside of your range). I even got game overed. I will have to use actual strategy for these guys. Chip damage barely gives EXP, and people have to gang up on enemies often to kill them (though in all fairness I haven't figured out what good weapons go to who).
