Mine reached 20 mid-way through, and then I just fed him the children until he was 27. I couldn't promote without some Warp staves uses. I did it anyway, and it still won't work. Unless you go solo with Celice it shouldn't be too bad. Keep a healer nearby. Life also makes the Tyrfing's Prayer skill pretty much useless, too.
