Leaf has better, well-rounded stats (growth rates are 40 and up), while Carrion has negligible mdef (magic doesn't matter if you're only using axes and lances). He went back to Berserker and gave his title to Wheeler. Besides, the anime isn't canon. The best proof of that is that the game and the anime take place in different centuries.
