Go to the request board and do all of the missions available. Where do I gather my tools? Request Board. What's a good way to get money after I've started up? Request Board. What weapon do you recommend? Broadswords are a little slower this time around so even two-handed blades are good, unless you want more defense and buy a shield. Where do I get cave passes? All of the 'caves' are available from the start. Is Cecilia a plausible choice? Yes. What's the deal with Barret+Douglas? Barrett is kind of a loner and skeptic; Douglass is an overprotective father.
