A strange trick I've figured out is that if you time it when the enemies are heading up rather than down, you'll take out more of them. I never buy any Mama Potos and I hardly ever get Tinkle Rain. That big-ass rain he uses comes quite often as well. At least you don't need to heal your status after that, only your HP. The only things I don't like about the game are the fact it's the last time I get to play as Phoenix Wright, Maya's scared look, and the fact that Godot is the killer. It's tough, but it's a matter of timing. If you don't start the charge shot until right before you enter the next warp, you can time it to fire right as you enter, take out the formation, and still be able to make it to the next ring. Also, don't push yourself too hard to get all of them. Two is plenty. Don't risk missing the warp trying to get more of the formations.
