Hero
Today 92 years ago, a new chapter of history opened. For the first time ever, there was a successful revolution in a large country which led to the creation of a government which represented the interests of all people, not just individuals of a particular economic situation, social class or nationality. This was a government that understood the equal value of all people and simultaneously guaranteed the rights of minorities and made long-term plans that would benefit the majority. Economically it was the first country to promote modernization without promoting the exploitation and alienation of labor. Today this country does not exist anymore. Throughout its lifetime it was isolated by enemies intent on its containment and destruction, infiltrated by spies and saboteurs and slowly corrupted until, in the end, its leadership destroyed it willingly, leading to a decade of great suffering. Its legacy has been betrayed by almost all of its former allies, and most attempts to follow it are stifled. Today should not be a sad one, though. In the same optimistic spirit that created Communism, we should celebrate the great successes and progress that were accomplished by the Soviet Union in the face of incredible adversity, and look to the future with bright eyes. Lenin lived, Lenin lives, Lenin will live again

Altera the Hun
He posted seventh, you posted fifth, it was a wrong date joke. They're both in the same month. I was actually going to post the V for Vendetta quote in it's own topic on the 5th itself, but I forgot.

Hero
Please, no fighting here. This is not the time to argue about history, who regretted what, etc. This is the time to stage parades and sing revolutionary patriotic songs! From wild forests to British seas, the Red Army is the best!

Altera the Hun
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! Hero
bourgeois nonsense I don't think you have the right idea. I wasn't talking about songs praising worker alienation and capitalist oligarchy. I was talking about songs like this: Edited November 7, 2009 by EvilWell

Hero
inorite It doesn't even fucking sound good. I've always been a fan of O Canada. It has a great 19th century sound to it, and sounds solemn but still positive and firm. It's a shame Canadians tend to be even more apathetic about their country than Americans. Not that I sympathize with bourgeois nationalism at all. This post is entirely from a scientific standpoint. A scientific socialist standpoint. My country is plenty cool and all, it just has a rather mediocre anthem. The US has a pretty mediocre anthem too.
Altera the Hun
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. " God Bless America, Land that I love. Stand beside her, and guide her Thru the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home.
