Since no one else has one of these topics and I was inspired by the HHM ranked log for FE7 would anyone mind if I post a log for this play through?

The four ranks in this game are Tactics, Experience, Survival, and Combat. Tactics is determined by the number of turns your take to complete the game; You need 399 or fewer turns to get an A rank.

Experience is determine by the total amount of level-ups(NOT cumulative

levels) all of your units had. Survival is determined by how many units are alive at the end of the game. Combat is determined by how many battle losses your units have; If you have 3 or fewer total losses, you get an A. A Loss is added to a unit's record when a

unit dies. It is NOT erased even if you reset the game to get back your unit.

Approximate turns to take per chapter

Prologue - ~15

Chapter 1 - ~35

Chapter 2 - ~40

Chapter 3 - ~38

Chapter 4 - ~40

Chapter 5 - ~26

Chapter 6 - ~33

Chapter 7 - ~42

Chapter 8 - ~28

Chapter 9 - ~28

Chapter 10 - ~26

Epilogue - ~30

This leaves 18 Turns to spare where necessary.

Pairings and inheritance:

SigurdXDiadora: I Plan to let Celice inherit the leg ring and elite ring. Silver sword hopefully is near critical range. General plan is to promote Celice ASAP and thus can sell his elite ring and leg ring and never have money problems again (usually occurs during the chapter 7 arena).

CuanXEthlin: Altenna gets a silver lance and an iron lance and maybe slim too, might as well give her the second silver lance as well since I plan on pairing Fin with Lachesis. Leaf inherits the iron blade that originally belonged to Aira or a steel blade. Altenna might want a speed ring to compensate for the weight of her weapons, but there might be some strategic use for it in chapter 4 and 5 so maybe not...

AdeanXMidayle: This is probably the most efficient pairing for her, I’m just disappointed it means that Jamka goes without a partner. Pursuit and charge will be good for Lester when using the hero bow. Rana inherits: Recover, Warp, Silence staff, Restore Staff, Libro, and Bargain Ring (how else did she get all those nice staves?) and a magic ring if enough money. Lester inherits: silver bow, hero bow, steel bow and maybe killer (depends on if I want Faval to start with it).

AiraXLex: The kids will make the best use of elite and Lachke will get a full skill set (lol). Aira will pass down a skill ring, silver sword, thunder sword, slim sword and two steel swords (in case anyone actually will want one). Lex will try his best to get the thunder sword, but will likely fail, else Aira takes it.

LachesisXFin: The kids might need prayer for the arena…Nanna will inherit a slim sword, iron/steel blade, live staff, return staff, earth sword. Delmud inherits the silver blade his main weapon for the rest of the game and any rings I can spare him.

SylviaX Azel, Arden or Deu: I’m not sure if I’ll even need bargain and it isn’t hard to staff abuse Corple to level 20 something by the start of the epilogue. Azel is just for lols to see Corple cap some stats. Corple inherits a return ring since it is otherwise useless, but to sell for cash. Patty can easily be promoted by his joining chapter anyway so bargain may or may not be overkill, depends on how it goes I guess. Arden is to gain Leen some levels in the arena with the sleep sword trick. Sylvia will pass down an iron sword (cheap to repair for arena abuse), and defender sword (for arena) and maybe shield ring if no one else wants it for the arena. Bargain might help Leen buy the Elite ring for the final few chapters though. Corple starts with a Libro staff so its fine…he doesn’t inherit anything from a dad.

FuryXClaude: A healer with flight might make the final few chapters easier and faster and this is the best pairing to pass down the reserve staff without screwing over Lester. El Wind and Lightning is good enough for Sety. He will also inherit a sleep staff and some C level healing staves. Fee inherits the life ring, power ring, hero lance, thief sword, light sword, slim sword (only a tiny bit of favoritism).

TiltyuXLevn: Fast Holsety. Arthur gets: Holsety, El wind (to get kills on), Thunder (to sell), fire (to sell), and a barrier ring (useful for later chapters so he doesn’t get silenced/sleeped). Tinny gets: Thunder (to sell), pursuit ring (she need to promote too), wind tome, and the magic ring if Rana doesn’t get it.

BriggidX Holyn(?)/Deu: I’m going to say that bargain might not be necessary in order to get Faval to cap level. Faval gets the steel bow and Ichival is another candidate for the power ring to 1HKO Ishtar. Patty gets any spare rings for some extra money, a hero sword(!Holyn), Iron sword, wind sword, and prayer sword. Patty faces a dilemma, without Odo blood and moonlight she is too hard to level up. Without bargain she will have trouble buying the Elite ring when it first becomes available. Faval might appreciate bargain more than overkill HP and Skill growth too…

Self-Notes for key goals in generation 1:

• Deu will have to buy light sword for chapter 2, elite ring for chapter 3, and maybe pursuit as well for chapter 3.

• Sent Arden over to intercept Elliot in chapter 1 for more EXP.

• Magic ring going to Rana may be the most strategic use to save turns in generation 2

• Diadora has to kill the boss in chapter 1 for the magic ring to 1HKO enemies in the arena. Buys warp staff for chapter 2

• Adean will get the bargain ring for chapter 2. Getting Midayle to fall in love with her by chapter 3’s start is important. Aideen need to get close to capping level in chapter 3.

• Fury will also need to promote by the start of chapter 4

• Promoting Levn by the start of chapter 4.

• Tiltyu needs to promote by chapter 5.

• let Arden, Noish, Alec abuse those level 30 mountain thiefs for extra EXP in chapter 5 so don’t seize right away.

Are you going to use savestates?

No...I don't use save states, but I might have to reset to abuse the arena at the very least, otherwise it is probably going to be impossible to achieve the EXP rank in this game...I just can't feel accomplished if I do use save states as it completely takes the challenge away from any game.

As a side effect this also means Celice can't pair with Julia .

If you or anyone have any advice regarding pairing and general strategies for the exp rank for combat units in the first generation it would be greatly appreciated!

Bold is yours, Italics are mine

SigurdXDiadora: I Plan to let Celice inherit the leg ring and elite ring. Silver sword hopefully is near critical range. General plan is to promote Celice ASAP and thus can sell his elite ring and leg ring and never have money problems again (usually occurs during the chapter 7 arena).

CuanXEthlin: Altenna gets a silver lance and an iron lance and maybe slim too, might as well give her the second silver lance as well since I plan on pairing Fin with Lachesis.

Perfect for efficiency

AiraXLex: The kids will make the best use of elite and Lachke will get a full skill set (lol). Aira will pass down a skill ring, silver sword, thunder sword, slim sword and two steel swords (in case anyone actually will want one). Lex will try his best to get the thunder sword, but will likely fail, else Aira takes it.

Like above

LachesisXFin: The kids might need prayer for the arena…Nanna will inherit a slim sword, iron/steel blade, live staff, return staff, earth sword. Delmud inherits the silver blade his main weapon for the rest of the game and any rings I can spare him.

You might want to pair her up with Beowolf. The +stats and love points conversation, as well as the not leaving early would help you greatly. It would be very difficult to pair Fin and Lachesis in the limited timeframe you have.

Azel gives pursuit and good growths, but you'd have to keep them together all the time. It does give the highest magic growth in the game besides Julia and Dierdre.

This pairing is difficult, and hinders Fury's movement. While it comes out good in the end, it could become annoying to make

Useful, but difficult to make. It doesn't hinder movement, so it is easier to make than FuryXClaude

Bargain is good, but Dew does have the lowest love growth with he. Jamka and Holyn are both good pairings for her.

Prologue is coming up tomorrow.

Some more notes on pairings:

In general for the tactics rank, it is best to not really worry about it since there are plenty of turns to make any pairing in the first generation. I'm losing turns that can be saved for the second generation, but it is more important to make sure that the pairing will be effective. Arthur [Levn] will shave a lot of turns off in the second generation. Fee [Claude] is easier to staff abuse to level 30, Sety arrives after some of the best times for Holsety to be useful so I might as well take advantage of the most effect reserve staff user, Prayer is going to prevent me from having to reset so much for Delmud and Nanna to finish up the arena in second gen., Generally the only rank to worry about in the first generation is the EXP and tactics in the second. It is ok to spend some extra time boss abusing if it means that Noish can reach level 30 and Claude and Fury are able to fall in love in time, for example. etc.

So even if LachesisXFin, FuryXClaude, and TiltyuXLevn are inefficient, in the second gen. if they can prevent me from having to waste a lot of Combat EXP on Shannan, make the arena easy mode for all their children and save turns in every chapter, than it is better to cater to the long run over the short run benefits.

I'm still not sure who to pair Sylvia up yet though...but I will have to otherwise I'm wasting the prayer skill for kids that suck in the arena.

While BrigettXHolyn is faster, I'm going to have to waste turns boss abusing for some EXP for crappy characters like Noish anyway, so I might regret not passing bargain down to characters that come late and may need help getting to level 30, and taking too long to work is not a good reason to not take advantage of bargain. But since Holyn really helps Patty, I guess Holyn is still the best choice

Posted

I did this, but with Elite on everything because I'm not "hardcore" enough for the real thing (i.e. I didn't want to plan as much). EXP is definitely your biggest worry. For me, tactics was all proper use of mounted units, mostly your lord. As long as he moves full or nearly full every turn, it simply can't go wrong.

LachesisXFin: The kids might need prayer for the arena…Nanna will inherit a slim sword, iron/steel blade, live staff, return staff, earth sword. Delmud inherits the silver blade his main weapon for the rest of the game and any rings I can spare him.

As much as I love it, gotta recommend against it. Beowulf x Lachesis is much more fluent for generation 1. You'll want Fin to be frontlining in Ch2 since that's when he has Hero Hax, which means it takes a long while to get the pairing done in Ch3.

Sylvia's inherent Prayer works well enough for the arena, though Ambush is easier. I agree with Corple inheriting Return Ring, but the Defender Sword is too good to pass up for so long. It's strong, it's C rank and it has about as much power as a Silver Sword. Nanna/Delmud would kill for it.

Yeah, Patty is just terrible. Don't mind Faval. Holyn doesn't make her much easier to train: arena tricks with Prayer (Sword) or Ambush do. And so does Lex, but Lex is better used on the swordkids.

Posted

You should probably have patty inherit the prayer sword(give it ti the male with the glitch) as well as the elite ring.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm not sure why but I like having at least one save with a perfect rank on it...I feel accomplished for some reason (well as much as videogame would make one feel accomplished :P)

Prologue:

The general strategy I employed was to weaken everyone with Sigurd and Cuan and try to use everyone else to steal kills for EXP. What stinks is that Sigurd is 1RKOing all of the brigands with Axes and Alec and Noish need to take both thier turns just in order to kill the weakest brigand. Arden is taken out of the castle turn one and Alec and Noish take out the only reachable enemy in the first turn

Lex and Azel arrive. Azel kills the mountain thief in front of him and Lex takes the village. Sigurd heads south and kills an archer. A series of bad RN cause Sigurd to get hit 2 times by axe users with around only 20 hit on him... Arden attacks a axe user that is nearby and Alec and Noish take out the mountain thief in the village nearby and Alec visits the village for the 4500g.

After which Fin arrives along with Ethlin, the only mounted healer in a long time. Everyone is injured so far and Noish is only able to take 1 more hit without dying, stupid RN. Fin finishes off the Axe user with low health. Sigurd continues south and defeats all enemies that counter him at 1 range and makes his way to Jungby. Everyone else makes their way southward as well. Lex defeats a brigand he countered during enemy phase and using canto stops at the church and Azel 1RKOs one as well.

The brigand with an hand axe attacks Azel since he would die in one more hit. If Azel died no loss as its the first chapter anyway and I could start over. Azel doesn't die and counters for over half of the 45HP brigand's health which he proceeds to kill during player phase. Lex makes his way west to the village up north. Meanwhile with the rest of the army Ethlin heals Sigurd up waits next to him while Sigurd waits adjacent to two brigands guarding Jungby castle. Sigurd is hit by one at only 10 hit... and brought back to single digit health. The next turn Fin, Noish, and Arden all get a kill. Alec and Cuan defeat an archer and Alec uses Canto to move near the mountain theif attacking the village with a speed ring. Noish, Fin, and Arden kill the last brigand guarding the castle for some experience and Noish moves to forest to dodge tank three more brigands coming towards the army.

Turn 7, Sigurd gets a lucky critical from standing next to Ethlin and is able to 1RKO the boss. Jungby is seized and a whole army of brigands come out of Evans, Fin takes the speed ring. Lex was able to save the north village and started to head towards the rest of the army and Azel went south as well towards the rest of the army too. Midir is a welcome edition to the army.

Noish and Alec are able to intercept the axe users while hiding in the forest and Azel is able to 1RKO some of the weaker brigands because he proced 2 magic earlier. I let Alvis talk to me on NPC phase to allow Sigurd to stay in a position that was able to give everyone leadership at once. Headed towards Evans because everyone, but stragglers were left by turn 12, Alvis stole some EXP that would have gone to Fin because I miscalculated my movement and Alvis was not able to reach Sigurd...

I boss abused with everyone for a few turns and Fin got the boss kill and got a good level up with 1HP 1Str 1Spd 1Def and 1Res.

14 Turns beaten meaning I save 1 turn for later :) to either boss abuse or finish up pairings.

Levels:

Sigurd 8

Alec 5

Arden 3

Noish 5

Azel 3

Lex 5

Fin 3

Cuan 5

Ethlin 2

Midir 4

I gave the speed ring to Fin so he would be able to double the archers in this chapter and hopefully it'll help him clear the next arena.

Rank: 14/399 turns

15/1000 lvl ups.

For chapter 1 outline:

Arena Abuse everyone. Sigurd won't have troubles getting through the arena, neither will Midir once the killer bow is availible. Alec and Noish probably won't get past the wind mage. Azel and Lex are not getting past the swordfighter. Ethlin will probably not get past the lance knight. Fin and Cuan have a chance to get through all of it...with some abuse.

Once Ethlin gets the Return staff I'll transfer all of Cuan's money to her and abuse the return staff every turn I get to gain levels :awesome:. I need Fin to reach Level 9 for this chapter if I want to promote him before chapter 3 starts...

I'm sending Arden west to deal with Elliot once he shows his ugly head, he will get to use the slim sword for now and Ethlin will switch to Arden's Iron sword just for this chapter. Sigurd will buy an iron sword, Alec will get Sigurd's iron lance and steel sword. Might as well upgrade Lex's axe to steel as well...I think I'll give the Javelin to Sigurd as well, I'll save the other slim sword for Dew or Aira.

Might as well start on AiraXLex and AdeanXMidayle

Any advice on who should get the skill ring? I'm thinking Azel to help him in the next arena. I can't see anyone else benefiting much from it...

Posted

My Skill Ring generally goes to Cuan/Sigurd for the Ch2 rush, they have to hit a throned boss repeatedly. Or to Ayra, but that's generally overkill. Midir and Jamka need a lot of help in the hit department too whenever they don't have the Killer Bow, but I agree Azel might just need it more.

Chapter 1 log will be up tomorrow pairings decided:

Choose LacheseisXBeo while you still can!

I can agree with all those pairings accept the one I clearly am arguing against. Claude! Sety with reserve should be useful
