Are links really so terrible that you can only have half as many of them as you can have pictures?

It's more of a security issue than an aesthetics issue.

Links can be used to link to illegal content, pornographic content, viruses, or whatever other kind of malicious content/site/program. The less links that are allowed in signatures, the easier it is for us to catch such links.

But there's a little more to it: what do you need a maximum of more than 3 URLs for? I don't think anyone really needs that. And if you do, it's likely for advertising, which we can keep somewhat limited this way, too. Advertising is still allowed in signatures, there's just a limit as to how many sites you can advertise.

^Something funny happened to me, actually. My previous signature was larger than the now-allowed size and when I tried to change it, it didn't change into my new signature...but still remained oversized.

This is good, I suppose. No more distracting sigs.

I haven't tried changing my signature directly, so cannot confirm Nightmare's issue, as I just changed the images being pointed to instead. That said, if I forgot one in the randomizer, let me know so I can fix it, and bring my sig into conformity.

Could you clarify what the rules are designed to prevent? If it's a matter of signatures merely being too long on the monitor, then spoiler tags would help, while they would make the issue worse if the underlying problem is storage space on the server. I guess that the other problem is that I really don't know how to tell what '15 lines' is supposed to mean, either. I'm just after some clarity here.

A discussion forum like this should have the discussion on it as a main focus, not the 'zomg awesome' signatures some people like to make. If somebody makes a one-line post (that may very well be highly contributing), but has a signature that takes up the rest of a random user's screen, that really draws away the focus from the post.

15 lines means exactly what it says. Say this was your signature.

Text

More text

A longer string of characters

Text

You now have a signature containing 4 lines of text, thus... 4 lines.

This is a wonderful move on the staff's part. The only thing that they could do to make this better is to enforce it, which they might actually do.

I should be fine. I set the length of anything I might use in a signature to 300, and have the height stay at the same ratio. So no troubles there.:awesome:

Just as a heads-up to those who think we're not going to enforce this, we've decided we can alter signatures without notice if it breaks the rules. So if you suddenly see your signature being different, it's because we altered it due to it breaking some rule.

EDIT: Actually, we'll leave a comment in your signature that we removed something, so you also immediately know what and why there was a problem.

Well it certainly fucks up my signature, considering I like to have my 5-6 adoptables in it.

My video suddenly vanished in the last 12 hours or so; I take it that video links in signatures have been banned as well? (Yes, I reverted it to a link already...)

That video alone already exceeded the maximum height your signature is allowed to have. So I removed it. Forgot to notify you, though, so sorry about that : o
