Fayt Zelpher
I made an edit. Al has a ionic charge of 3+, and SO4 has 2-. Al(SO4)3 would have a net charge of 3-, but Al2(SO4)3 would have no net charge, hence a balance. I can confirm this. The correct molecule should be Al2(SO4)3. Defeatist Elitist
Always balance Oxygen last. No exceptions. Almost. Oxygen is a whore.
Kriemhild
Always balance Oxygen last. ^This No exceptions. And this too Almost. No, I have really never seen an equation where some other element caused more problems than Oxygen. Also, is that Sanae I see?

Integrity
No, seriously, SO4's charge is very basic knowledge. Did you drop out of Chemistry really early or something? No, I just barely passed through it without paying much attention.
Zkirsche
No, seriously, SO4's charge is very basic knowledge. Did you drop out of Chemistry really early or something? I did it at GCSE (which I assume is not really early), got an A*, but never bothered to learn the exact charges. :/ It wasn't "very basic knowledge", anyway, more like, "an easy bit of knowledge noone bothers to remember." Darros
Prior evidence does not support this. I'll go edit that post to say in classes not english, social skills, or logical thinking. *goes off to memorizing polyatomic ions once more* You have to memorize them? Our teacher's letting us use our papers. I made an edit. Al has a ionic charge of 3+, and SO4 has 2-. Al(SO4)3 would have a net charge of 3-, but Al2(SO4)3 would have no net charge, hence a balance. You were right. I told my teacher that it had to be that, and that the textbook paper had an error.
