Claude C Kenny
recently, I decided to give gaiden a try, and of course, I have some questions. first, is the highest level for characters 20? I got a message for some of my characters saying they can promote at level 3(?), and well, I did, not knowing if they could have gone higher (and I call myself a FE vet). should I restart? I've only made it to the end of the first map. also, about the split party thing, is it like radiant dawn, where these 2 armies will eventually blend togetther, or am I doomed to lose any characters that might be good? with FE3, is book 1 basically just a port of FE1, or are there any differences, kind of like with SD? cuz I noticed the original FE1 is the only one without a patch, and i've been wanting to play it for awhile. with FE4, I hear you need to make certain characters hook up to wield the legendary weapons later in the game. are there certain couples I should try to make like each other? FE5, I can't even get to work. I tried all three patches, and one I don't think even works, but the one (H-ROM) works, but I can't get past the screen with the dragon and the horse. the option to select a new game never appears. alot of questions, but its all for my quest to play and beat every FE game. all thats left are the ones described here. thanks for your help! The game runs fine without the patch, right? 2. What's the size of the ROM in bytes? 3. Can you upload a screenshot of the game's title screen for me to see (with the dragon and horse, I think)? Max level is 20, but you can abuse the swordie path's infinite leveling if you're willing to grind forever. also, about the split party thing, is it like radiant dawn, where these 2 armies will eventually blend togetther, or am I doomed to lose any characters that might be good? They only blend together in the very last map. You play as them alternately until then. with FE3, is book 1 basically just a port of FE1, or are there any differences, kind of like with SD? cuz I noticed the original FE1 is the only one without a patch, and i've been wanting to play it for awhile. FE3 Book 1 is a simplified version of FE1 (less maps and characters) with an enhanced engine. For instance, you don't get to control any shooters there. with FE4, I hear you need to make certain characters hook up to wield the legendary weapons later in the game. are there certain couples I should try to make like each other? You should be able to find a few dozen threads about FE4 pairings in this forum. However, there is no such concern about lategame legendary weapons, since they're given to fixed characters. All variable legendary weapons are already obtainable in 1st gen, so it's more of a matter of ensuring that your kids can use them.

I fixed it. apparently, the site I go to for ROMS has a chinese version of FE5, which obviously wouldnt work. im going to send them a message to see if they'll let me upload the japanese version, as well as letting me upload FE6. Gaggle of Geese
Max level is 20, but you can abuse the swordie path's infinite leveling if you're willing to grind forever. So what level is ideal for promotion? Will about 10-15 work? For villagers, I'm inclined to promote them as soon as possible. The only big pairing I've heard is LevinxFury for earlier Holsety use.
Silvercrow
The only one that matters as far as usability goes is Holsety. As long as you do LevinxFury, LevinxTiltyu, or LevinxSylvia (not recommended), you'll be able to use Holsety later in the game. No other pairings affect who can wield a Holy Weapon. TheEnd
So what level is ideal for promotion? Will about 10-15 work? For villagers, I'm inclined to promote them as soon as possible. I abused hard, so I'll refrain from talking about ideal levels. Even because the growth rates are pretty low, despite max stats being 40. Well, using the Angel Ring helps, but. Personally, I'd promote the villagers as soon as leveling them becomes painful. Which might be right away, lol. How DO you ensure that your kids can use them? The only big pairing I've heard is LevinxFury for earlier Holsety use. Pair the Holy Weapon users with compatible people, get their holy weapons. Levin/Fury is for overkill Holsety use; earlier Holsety use is Levin/Tiltyu. The only one that matters as far as usability goes is Holsety. As long as you do LevinxFury, LevinxTiltyu, or LevinxSylvia (not recommended), you'll be able to use Holsety later in the game. No other pairings affect who can wield a Holy Weapon. Except for the Valkyrie Staff. Which isn't a weapon, sure, but is still only usable with Sylvia/Claude and Fury/Claude. TheEnd
Claude!Sety can use the Valkyrie staff, can't he? I messed up. I meant Sylvia/Claude or Fury/Claude.
Quirino
cuz I noticed the original FE1 is the only one without a patch, and i've been wanting to play it for awhile. Actually, I brought out a beta patch 36 hours ago. Download it from http://quirino.cz.cc It's a beta version so there may be some small bugs or mistakes. Celice
There was also a small name patch for characters, items, and menues made by a user Maestro a couple years ago. And likely a bunch of others no one's heard of. But pick up Quirino's as it's the best so far ^^

Celice
You'd think he would have caught that! But a large majority of FE fans who messed around with their games did it mostly for popularity and namesake, rather than actually helping others play games. Hopefully your translation may spur a few players to make their own versions of the game. The level format is pretty straight-forward and uncompressed, and I do remember a few people wanting to play around with the game, but they lost interest once they had to deal with the wonky text. General Spoon
Units have terrible growths in FE2, so the promotion bonuses are quite welcome.
PuffPuff
earlier Holsety use is Levin/Tiltyu. Not to mention that you have a unit on horsback that will use it. ^_^ Units have terrible growths in FE2, so the promotion bonuses are quite welcome. Not to meantion that the promotional bonuses will worsen if your characters are at higher levels.
Celice
Growths and bonuses aside, they're never really necessary... Gaiden's pretty easy ._.
