Florete
In my efforts to track down and purchase Silent Hill 2 for the PlayStation 2, I also heard of Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams (or the Greatest Hits version) which is supposed to contain some extra material. I'm able to find the regular version for ~$13 and the Restless Dreams version for ~$31. What I want to know: is anyone familiar with the extra material in the Restless Dreams version, and is it worth the extra $18? There's also supposed to be a Silent Hill Collection with Silent Hill 2, 3, and 4, but I can't find it anywhere anyway.
Ein
Restless Dreams has the UFO ending and I believe a mode in which you control another character with some extra story related stuff.

Ein
EDIT: Alright. Just looked up some stuff. Restless Dreams has an extra mode called Born From a Wish in which you play as Maria so yeah. Tangerine
You obviously have to get that version.
Florete
Looking closer, I'm not sure I can trust the seller for the cheaper version, so I may end up having to pay ~$40 for Restless Dreams. Although at the same time, I'm up to ~$20 for the normal version.
Rodykitty
I got 6 playthroughs out of Silent Hill 2, and I'm not a person that normally replays games. It may very well be worth $40.
Celice
If you really care about the story, it might be a little worth it. The Maria extra is nice, but doesn't really do anything but give you a small extra mini-game. You could finish it in an hour or two. A few other things are added, but the original game is pretty much all you need. But if you're getting the game for the story (and want to experience it first-hand, rather than through online wikis and videos), I'd say buy the Restless Dreams version. Considering that the gameplay really is pretty dull in Silent Hill 2, and that the atmopshere and story is where it's at, that might influence your decision... the extra mode sort of explains Maria's origins directly, and also purpose. And really adds an intense layer in the self-awarness Maria actually possesses... at least, during the minigame--and it's no very clear if it drops off into nothing for the normal game. So if you want the story, go for it. If a small extra doesn't seem worth it, that you can read about online--the gameplay and puzzle in the extra Maria mode don't even count--you might want to just get the original release. Florete
I ended up getting the normal version for ~$18. I've started.
Florete
Oh yeah, I ended up beating this game. It was pretty intense. What surprised me by the end is that there was actually very little story, and instead it was all character development, the depth of which I thought was quite well-done. Now I need to find the first and third games...
Celice
Yeah, the character development is why a lot of fans love it the most. The story is in the character. I know a Swedish friend who wrote a small dissertation on Film Theory as applied to Silent Hill 2... sadly he hasn't had time to translate it into English XD.
