Of course there had been several setbacks keeping me from posting my creation on the boards. It is a modern-era RP that has a decent mix of fantasy elements included within. Now without further ado I present you with the first RP I've made for this board, Disciples of Tysannir; a RP that will eventually span several countries within our world. Overview In the story of Adam and Eve, there was a third being that was cast out of the garden of Eden; Gungir, the essence of humanity It was a living deity of concepts of what defines humans as human. However, Gungir succumbed to vices manifesting themselves as altered versions of the concepts that make it what it was driving it to lead Adam and Eve to their inevitable fate. As punishment God forcibly divided this creation into numerous lesser beings representing a single concept before being banished from the Garden of Eden to Earth as punishment. Each lesser being became known as one of several ‘Ethereal Ones’ when they discovered one of them and the story behind it. Through the course of history there have been humans that have sought out these Ethereal Ones, seeking to utilize their individual powers or to reassemble it so that they can reap the benefits of a once divine being. Some of them wished to ultimately use the celestial being Gungir to redeem both it and the human race; the more ambitious seeked to utilize the lesser Ethereal Ones for their own twisted ends of global domination; and you have those that wish to rid the world of all traces of Gungir in fear of what conflicts it will inevitably bring upon the human race. So far no one has launched an active campaign based on what ideally should be done, until a group called the Order of the Twelve was established. They ware an organization that attempted to use the power of the Ethereal Ones to redeem both Gungir and humanity in the eyes of God. Unfortunately this organization lost its true meaning during internal conflict, and the power of the Ethereal Ones was instead used to bring about a great war; an event now universally known as the Time of Oblivion. It was a time period where the entire planet’s population cut drastically, and after the war some of those remaining sealed away the Ethereal Ones in the world in the hopes that something like that would never happen again. As generations passed however the details regarding the Ethereal Ones became a bit hazy and the war was forgotten by a majority of mankind... However several universities that hold exact records of the Time of Oblivion have been established around the world in various countries by descendants of the war, with the main one existing within the United States. They were named after the founder, Ivan Tysannir and their purpose is to train successors to take on the task of making sure that there is no involvement with any traces of Gungir. The teachers have plead their case to the various nations during a summit occurring every four years and have gotten support from a few of them yet were dismissed by the majority, many of them unknowingly having Ethereal Ones within their countries ironically. In the year 2019 tensions between all parties are at an all-time high, and it seems that tragedy might befall mankind once again... The Time of Oblivion The Order of the Twelve’s original purpose was to use the power of the Ethereal Ones to wipe out corruption within humanity, altering it until there were no sins to curse humanity and as a result bring about the entire race’s redemption. Using the power of the Ethereal Ones they would use their positive aspects to eradicate the negative aspects of humans so ‘they could do no wrong’. Unfortunately finding a way to do so without turning humans into mockeries of their former selves proved to be a rather difficult task. There were those within the group who proposed lowering their numbers to make mankind easier to purify, but the more benevolent of the group rejected this solution. Internal conflict began to develop in the Order of the Twelve as to who was right and who was wrong. The answer did not come peacefully either, as the group found themselves pitted against each other in ideals, and tragically in combat. Those with the tradition approach regarding mankind were wiped out, leaving the extremists in charge of the chain of command. And using a power designed for reducing the world’s populace as a whole brought rebellion as a result. Known to all was the underpowered yet still potent magical potential able to be used by those inhabiting the planet due to the descent of the ethereal ones. Humans were the first and only ones capable of utilizing it, as the soul itself is used as a focal point for magic. Generally magic was used for productive purposes, but magic can be abused just like any other resource. With a change in the chain of command of the Order of the Twelve and a change of ideals came a need for a more destructive form of magic. Harnessing the power of the negative aspects of the Ethereal Ones and amplifying it with a sacrifice of parts of their own souls brought forth the creation of Oblivion Magic; a school of magic with the sole purpose of destruction. Unfortunately that their minds ware warped to unrecognizable states, making those users incredibly chaotic in thoughts and ambitions. The resulting war utilizing this man-made magic source was unnecessarily tragic, as no one was spared from the chaos. Men, women, even children weren’t exempt from the whims of the Order of the Twelve. Those who didn’t side with them rose in rebellion, and losses on each side were heavy. The Order of the Twelve was ultimately vanquished but roughly 65% of mankind was wiped out in the struggle, so part of their plan was idealized. To ensure this would never happen again those remaining sealed the Ethereal Ones using magical-enhanced prisons to seal them in stasis never again to be utilized by the general populace. Tysannir University - U.S. Branch (New Haven, C.T.) Tysannir University is a building that’s two stories high, and have a total of two floors to it, not including the basement. It is designed in the shape of a large hexagon, and the dorms are located in the hollow center, which are located outside. Clean marble floors are coupled with light tan-colored walls.The dorm buildings resembling modern housing, the more elegant of them belonging to the faculty. The first floor holds several rooms dedicated to teaching classes along with a room dedicated to holding final exams and the second holds storage for records, lockers, and a lounge for the teachers to relax during the school day. The The West Wing is dedicated for weapons training and the East Wing is used for teaching magic classes. The West Wing’s classrooms consist of your typical classroom area where technical information about melee weaponry and guns are taught to the students while the combat areas that hold various weapons and firearms are sealed off from the former room via a sliding door, with translucent bulletproof glass serving as a barrier between the two areas. The East Wing’s classrooms typically consist of several desks stocked with a single tome for the students, a podium for the teacher, and enough room to safely demonstrate and practice magic casting. The knowledge portion of the curriculum teaches students about the origin of Gungir and the Ethereal Ones along with the Time of Oblivion. The combat portion is split into two categories: ranged and melee weaponry. Magical Arts, which teaches students how to harness the inner power of their souls and grant them access to various schools of magic are also taught. Three subjects are taught per student, who has a final exam specialized based on their studies. Graduates from Tysannir become ‘Seekers’, who are people dedicated to seeking out potential threats to mankind via involvement with the Ethereal Ones, just like their teachers. Proficiencies Melee Combat -One-handed weaponry: Weapons typically used with one hand such as swords, knives, etc. They are fast in attacking speed and are fairly strong, dealing decent damage against unarmored foes. One-handed weapons lack the oomph to inflict great damage on armored foes, although they still deal fair damage to them. -Two-handed weaponry: Weapons such as axes, battle hammers, etc. They are large, intimidating weapons that are unwieldy to use, requiring more training to get the most out of them yet they deal the most damage blow-for-blow. Weapons of this archetype are great for punching through armor, but on the flip-side they are also a bit slow to attack with. -Hand-to-Hand: Hand-to-hand blows deal the least damage but come out faster than one or two-handed weapon blows. Hand-to-hand users dealing out a barrage of punches and kicks to overwhelm a target. They may not do lots of damage per strike but the amount of hits generated makes up for the decreased damage per hit...most of the time. Not having to equip a weapon to attack takes away the threat of being disarmed during the heat of battle. Armored foes lack in the face of hand-to-hand combat; it does hardly any damage to them. May be enhanced with gauntlets for punches or greaves for kicks. Firearms -Light Arms: Low-grade weapons such as pistols that are simple to utilize and maintain. For the most part they are easy to handle and acquire ammo for yet lack offensive and stopping power, with a few exceptions. -Marksmanship: Utilizes sniper rifles and their variation to hit targets accurately and from extreme range. Users of this type of weaponry learn to be slow and patient with attacking, seeing as one bullet does the trick a majority of the time due to the ease in hitting a vital organ from impressive distances while possessing the drawbacks of a slow rate of fire. -Assault: Rifles and shotguns fall within this weapon archetype and they specialize in one thing: quelling strong and moderately armored foes. While these weapons are indeed powerful, they need experience to wield properly and they’re loud to boot, so they easily draw attention to the user; deadly in situations where stealth is necessary. -Concussive: Grenade and rocket launchers dominate this weapon category, which saturate an area with explosive sheer firepower and by the strongest weapons shot for shot, meaning this weapon category is ideal for crowd control; the antithesis of Light Arms weapon class.Unfortunately it’s all to easy to hit friendly targets with these weapons. Not to mention they’re loud, heavy, and hard to conceal! Magical Arts -Natural: Primarily deals with manipulation of magical elements in the world. It lacks the ability to create but it’s the least strenuous school of magic on the body. A noteworthy use of this magical archetype is the ability to temporarily saturate an area with an existing magical element, creating an elemental deathtrap for those with no elemental defenses. -Arcana: A basic magic archetype that focuses on tearing apart foes via elemental fury. Arcana magic creates, instead of utilizing what magical elements already exist in the world. Spawn a fireball out of midair, generate a gust of wind, form a cloud of precipitation, create a sandstorm, what have you. Non-conflicting spell elements can be fused to make new magic, but that’s typically a feat for advanced arcana users. -Hex: Magical archetype that has dominion over the realm of misfortune and it’s more lethal cousin, decay. While hex magic looks like a demonic archetype that couldn’t be further from the truth as the characteristics it manipulates are a necessary force existing within the world Hex magic spells usually provide some sort of secondary effect designed to cripple the foe via various ‘curses’ but it isn’t rare to find a user that can also use it for offensive purposes, even if those types of skills are few and far between. Noteworthy is the ability to nullify magic inducing rapid decay of magical elements existing in the world. -Yin-Yang: Deals with the balance between body and spirit. Yin-Yang magic alters the state of mind and body in various ways. The Yin portion has dominion over the mind, which alters the perception of things seen to the caster’s benefit while the Yang portion has dominion over the body, granting usage healing and transformation abilities for the caster. Combining the two variations of this magical archetype can result in powerful yet volatile neutral magic, which penetrates the majority of magical-based defenses. -Oblivion: Magical archetype born for the sole intent of causing destruction on a widespread scale. It is potent, yet very chaotic in nature, and is rumored to be demonic in nature. Oblivion magic deals set amounts of damage regardless of defenses and also are capable of killing targets outright. Higher-up spells destroy the body completely, or an area. Oblivion magic has faced bans for usage worldwide and is outright banned for use at Tysannir University because this magic is as dangerous to the caster mentally, with there being several cases of those who’ve developed mental problems with prolonged usage. Age (How old is your character? 18 and up is the recommended age range.) Description (What does your character look like? The more information divulged, the better.an idea we get on what your character looks like visually.) Personality (How does your character act/react in situations? What are their strengths/flaws? Any noteworthy quirks about them. This section can be brief, but give me a good feel on how they act.) Proficiencies (What three classes do your character specialize in combat-wise? Remember, they have room for proficiency in three classes.) Inventory (What items of note do your character have to their name, weapons and otherwise?) Bio (This section is mainly for talking about what your character has done/is doing at Tysannir University.) Name: David BrenshawGender: Male Nationality: Born and raised in New York, but he's got ancestral roots in France, England, and Ireland. Age: 20 Description: David stands at around 5'10" and weighs about 160 lbs. Certainly not skinny but not over-muscular. He's lean and has enough strength to get by. He has flaming red hair kept short in a slightly longer version of the Caesar cut. He has hauntingly blue eyes. He has many piercings as well--a silver stud in each earlobe, as well as an industrial in his left ear. His left eyebrow is also pierced. He also has two tattoos: a black rose on his right shoulder and a loyalty/respect ambigram on his right calf. In terms of clothing, David tends to add to the edge a bit by wearing lots of jewelry, namely necklaces and rings. Graphic tees and button-down shirts with the sleeves rolled up are David's tops of choice. Most of them are fairly form-fitting. He wears regular old jeans, sometimes with rips, sometimes skinny, sometimes neat. Shoes are similar, he has a few different pairs. Nothing special about them. Personality: Despite the blatantly obvious edgy style David is very outgoing and approachable. If you were at a party you'd find him either at the bar with a nice drink and talking to a few friends, on the dancefloor dancing with his friends, or on the dancefloor with his friends and the drink he got at the bar. He has few close friends but a wide outer circle of many, many friends and acquaintances. He's approachable, witty, and entertaining. He is also socially smart and knows who to say what to and where. He refuses to take any schtick from anyone, and although that could get him in trouble, his winning personality keeps people smiling at him. He loves to socialize with everyone, and that can get him in trouble at times, but he's an enjoyable person overall. Proficiencies: One-Handed Weaponry: David's most popular and powerful proficiency. His weapon of choice is the katana, which he's been studying for a few years now. Arcana Magic: He's still studying Arcana magic and it isn't his strongest suit, but he's certainly proficient enough to use it in battle. His most powerful element is the element of Water, which relates to his eyes. It's also his preferred element. Hand-to-Hand Combat: When his katana isn't enough, David's able to use his gloves to punch his opponents. These gloves are also well-armored enough to protect his hands and wrists when he's in sword combat. Inventory: Katana: David's trusted katana. It's just an average, everyday katana. Nothing special about it. Gauntlets: These gauntlets are designed so that David can wear them while he's using his katana as well. Once again, nothing too special. Bio: He's an interesting person with a winning personality, but his backstory is fairly average compared to others. He was the oldest of three children, his parents worked average and simple jobs, and they lived in a modest life. Despite having been born into a family of almost all green eyes, David was born with blue eyes, and always had an attachment to water. In middle and high school he was an excellent swimmer, but something was interesting about his affinity for water. After graduating high school David received a letter from the mysterious Tysannir University. Apparently they saw something in him no one else, including himself, did, and they wanted him to join. He decided to head there, despite having a full scholarship for swimming to many top colleges and universities across the country. He was intrigued at what Tysannir had to offer, and he hoped that he could learn more. Currently he's studying combat similar to the ancient samurai, and also hand-to-hand combat. He's also learning to control his affinity for water and harness it into magical energy. He's quite the social charmer and has many friends. He also still swims, but only for fun and not competitively. Elizabeth wears a full on and out proper uniform consisting of a pure white blouse with the school emblem on it, a short necktie, and a gray skirt that goes half-way down to her knees. She wears her hair back in a prim and proper manner, held in place mainly by a green bow-tie, the only non-regulation piece of clothing she wears while in the school. At her side is a long and slender fencing sword laced with etched designs of waves and flowing water into the flat of the blade. She carries the blade with her wherever she can. Personality: Elizabeth is descended from a noble line and is not afraid to show it. She is willing to push people around and make comments that get her labeled as 'stuck-up'. However, she subscribes to the school of thought that the nobility has the job of doing their best to ensure the well-being of the common man and often partakes of charity work, helping others out if possible, and so-forth. She's been forced to act far more adult-like throughout her life as well, and often will act like a giggling kid when alone or with people she can trust. Proficiencies: Elizabeth is proficient in Nature magic (Water), One-handed weapons (fencing), and yin-yang type magic. Inventory: Her fencing sword, which is her most valued possession. It can also extend into a whip-sword type-weapon, but she isn't as skilled with it. Additionally she has various baubles and jewels from her family back home which she treasures, but are of no combat value. Bio: Born into a lower-end noble family, as a small child Elizabeth was groomed to be a 'proper' lady as soon as possible. However, at a early age, she also proved to be immensely capable with the manipulation of water. Growing up, she was placed between two extremes, the prim and proper world of a noble, and the sometimes happy world of magic. When she reached age fifteen, her parents presented her with a choice. Either stay at home and study manners and enter into a arranged marriage, or leave her name and title behind and study magic abroad. Elizabeth chose the latter. Already doing well in private schools, it didn't take long for Elizabeth to be transferred to a distant school. Ever since then she has studied hard, trying to perfect her magic arts, fearful that, should she return home, she would be forced into a marriage to a man she didn't even know the name of. This life has gradually lead her to Tysannir University where she studies both water magic and swordsmanship astutely. Accepted May as well post my main's signup sheet while I'm at it Name: Ayse Hayes Nationality: American Gender: Male Age: 20 Description: Ayse is a male with a lean body frame, and he’s light when it comes to weight classification; he’s quick, but he’ll get knocked around during a fight against heavier opponents. His distinguishing facial features include hazel eyes, sideburns that go down the sides of his face yet not quite reaching the bottom, and slanted cross-like scar on his right cheek acquired during a Hex magic-casting mishap. Ayse opts casual attire, wearing blue jeans, along with a black shirt with red trim at the end of his sleeves and the very bottom and collar of his shirt, with the school logo emblazoned on the sleeves. He also sports blue gym shoes, black finger-less gloves to aid gripping various weapons and wears a black hat with the visor turned behind him. Personality: Ayse is a man that opts to think with the logical side of his brain more-so than the side dealing with emotions. He’s also a serious, cynical fellow with a rather pessimistic outlook on humanity as a whole. He’s not uncaring; it just means that he’ll be less hesitant in both calling out people for their actions and that he’s not too much of a people person at first glance. Despite these traits Ayse is a proactive person that can be counted on to look out for others, even if they don’t see him doing so at first glance. He’s also able to take rational and decisive action during stressful situations when most people would be conflicted with their emotions. Proficiencies: Ayse is very skilled in Light Arms usage (quick-firing handguns specifically), Hex magic (striking a balance between damage-dealing and crippling targets), and he has taken up a class in one-handed weaponry to give himself a skill to fall back on once he runs out of ammo/magic (with a preference for swords modeled after the Gladius). Inventory: Ayse sports a black, modified 9mm Berretta with laser sight installed. It’s focused on accuracy, not power, and the laser sight helps in great regards for that. Additionally he wears a turquoise ring on his left ring finger, which was a present from his parents before joining the university. Bio: Before his eventful enrollment in Tysannir University he lead a mundane, fairly meaningless life. Desperate to alleviate this he searched for ways to but he ultimately came across discovering Tysannir University; a relatively unknown school delegated to keeping the peace regarding supernatural entities. Needless to say the least he was immediately intent on joining this university to give himself some sort of notoriety in the world. But when he learned of how disastrous the past for humanity truly was he stuck around, but for the sake of bettering himself and others, even if he’d have to snark regularly and let loose with reprimands for those acting like Tysannir is a typical college. As a result Ayse has developed no friends during his stay, as his personality along with his work-aholic attitude was a turn-off to the more idealistic of the students. In addition, he picked up a minor in Hex magic; that wasn’t exactly helping his case. The teachers tolerated him even if he had to be reminded to be a little more forgiving of the other students every now and then. Ayse wasn’t overly dwelling on what others thought of him during the curriculum, but it was a bit disheartening to see what the more 'good-natured’ thought of him. It’s not that Ayse is a ruthless, uncaring person that wants nothing to do with people; he’s making sure his peers are ready for the world that awaits them. 13th Posted August 6, 2011 Share Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Alexander Romanji Male Nationality: With roots in both France and Japan, he was born and raised in Canada. Age: 23 Description: Alex is 5'11" (For you Non-Americans, 180.3 cm) with pale skin and lithe, nimble proportions. He's left handed, and has dark green eyes. His hair is blonde and slightly on the messy side, while he has a scar on his left cheek from when he was attacked by an old roommate who was swiftly punished afterwards. He wears a pair of black jeans, a grey t-shirt, and a grey hat, all simple and plain. He tends to have his black coat on as well. Personality: Cold and distant, with few friends. He is a hard worker, and he is incredibly serious. He rarely understands jokes, and he has virtually no humor at all. At least it seems he doesn't (read, he understands and doesn't react). He can be very pushy to get things done, and he likes to do things as quickly and efficiently as possible. Logical to the point of insanity, he is incredible at planning and strategizing. He is also quite creative with his fighting. Proficiencies: Alex is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, with his specialty there being how he uses his... elbows and knees. He can do some fists and kicks, but his main weapons are the armor-padded elbows and knees, and he is quite creative in their use. (No, he does not specialize in Knee-to-Crotch fighting style. He can do a lot of jumping.) Additionally, he took Arcana magic, specializing in two conflicting elements, but with some skill in others. His main skills are fire and ice. And he also has skill in One-handed weaponry, specializing in knives, due to their small, easy-to-conceal nature. He knows how to throw knives and how to dual-wield knives. Inventory: He carries 4 knives in various sheathes (Specifically, two belt sheathes, a shoulder sheath and a smaller wrist sheath.) He also has a necklace (or more, a small chain necklace) which is a gift from his grandmother. Backstory: The son of a disowned French Aristocrat and a Japanese peasant, Alex was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. Sent to a Boarding School, he enjoyed (read:hated to the fullest extent) learning about normal life and such. The first thing that MAJORLY interested him was the events of 2019. He researched and learned of Tysannir U. He applied, and... was accepted, to his surprise. Bio: He joined within the last 6 months of RP start. He chose three classes and diligently started working on them. He continues only to be acquainted with a handful of people. His current training partner is the Lady Elizabeth. By the way feel free to add your own spin on the other classes; there’s leeway for alternative interpretation here provided it is suitable for the school. "The knowledge portion of the curriculum teaches students about the origin of Gungir and the Ethereal Ones along with the Time of Oblivion." Is this a seperate course that does not have a final or somehow included in the other courses? 2. Are there other courses other that weapons/magic training that would be found at a typical university? theonefate Posted August 11, 2011 Author Share Posted August 11, 2011 The knowledge portion of the curriculum is indeed a separate course; the course is taken by everyone, and it does have a final seeing as knowing about the Time of Oblivion is an essential part of the curriculum. Regarding the other courses yes, there are additional courses there as they could have useful real life applications. The development of combat capabilities and knowledge of the Time of Oblivion takes center stage however, which is why I did not include it in the signup. (Rocky Mtn Region) Age A child prodigy at 17. Description Zill is rather tall, about 5'8", and has a very slender build, she wears a simple Solid Colored T-shirt and Blue Jeans wherever she goes. Her light blonde hair goes down just passed the shoulder blades. Her eyes are a deep viridian. Personality She's sporatic to say the least, and kinda jumpy. She can be a little gruff at times, but all in all, she's just trying to be nice. Proficiencies: Assault Weapons: Shotgun? Check. Wannabe Assault Rifle? Check. Arcana: Fire and Lightning Very frightening, especially when they are shot from a gun in the form of Exploding, Arcing, and heck, sometimes Magnetic Bullets. (though that doesn't stop her from knowing how to throw it around on it's own) Being able to cool the barrel of a rapid fire rifle is also nice. Hex: and what's scarier than a Bullet that Explodes into magical flame or lightning? How about ones that put you to sleep? Or cause the wound to fester almost instantly? Inventory: 22^2 (simply known as Squared): A modified .22 Carbine, now modified to have a fully automatic setting alongside the Semi-auto. Unfortunatly, they don't normally make 22 clips large enough for an automatic weapon, so Zil gets to make and fill her own in her down time. Though it rapid fire's well enough, Zill needs to constantly focus a channel of ice into the barrel while she's firing, because it over-heats far quicker than a real Auto-matic weapon. 2x4+4: A not as modified Combat Shotgun. Really, the only thing to note on this is that it has some special riveting on it so that she can use it to channel her magic more effeciantly. Tinks: It's a wrench, and the closest thing Zil keeps to a melee weapon, though she isn't particularly talented at Melee combat, it doesn't take much training to know to apply heavy thing to squishy thing to cause ouch. Bio Zilliana 'grew up' in the mid west USA. Though she didn't stay in those regions long, for her affinity for magics showed at an early age, and her parents sent her off to various accadomies to study and refine her magic. Unfortunatly, she couldn't focus in class, she seemed to enjoy the thoughts of martial weapons. Instead of studying the magics she was gifted in, she spent her free time learning about her local weaponry. Instead of practicing her cantrips, she spent many hours at shooting ranges. (official or self claimed) practicing her shot. After some time she started to modify her 'toys'. Needless to say she ended up flunking out of all of them. After about a year of this nonsense the University found her, and agreed to take her in... even though she was below the usual age limit. Instead of punishing her love of guns, they embraced it, and she was happy to go there. Though she's still rather young, and often makes what are considerred 'rookie' mistakes in most of the common courses, There is no doubt she's good with her Magic, and her Guns. She managed to pick up a part time job at a fast food restaraunt not to far from campus... so that she didn't spend her free time blowing up the dummies and targets at the shooting range. I'm thankful that you are portraying her skills as a gun user realistically (i.e. admitting that she still makes mistakes instead of making her a flawless gun user at her age) and that you're able to convey the alteration to the .22 Carbine without it being OP'd.
