TheoryDS
I've searched around, but couldn't really find any comprehensive music guide besides Blazer's. I've followed all the steps correctly with inserting a midi through Zahlman's song editor. However, once I get into the game to test out the song, there was a problem. The song doesn't play the same way it would on Anvil or anywhere else. Some of the instruments seem to be missing. I have already applied ShadowofChaos' instrument patch for FE8 to my game as well. Anyone else experience this before? Thanks for any help!
TheoryDS
Sorry for the double post. But I figured out the problem here in case anyone else was having the same issue. It wasn't that the instruments were missing or weren't playing properly from the midi. The problem lies in the "channel" option for each particular track which you can edit in Anvil. I don't know exactly how it works, but after some trial and error, it seems that the higher lower number the channel, the higher priority it has in playing the track. I'm not entirely sure what else it affects, so if you're having problems getting the midi to play properly, try fiddling with the channels option. Crimson Red
Hmmm. Not sure if this is related but also the order matters too. Of the tracks themselves. You see only so many instruments can play at once and so different instruments have different... priorities, I think. Pretty much, the closer the track is to being one of the first in the list (i.e. at the top of the instrument list in Anvil) the less likely it is to suddenly disappear/not play. Also drums should be set to channel 10 IIRC and put them near the beginning to make sure they don't screw up. >_> It's really a touchy/fiddly matter that I haven't really figured out myself (mainly because I don't care enough to) but that's hacking for you, sometimes it's a science and other times it's an art. And most of the time, it's a messy combination of both...
