Chapter 1: The Entrance of Leaf

Units Deployed:

Leaf, Eyvel, Fin, Halvan, Othin, Dagdar, Tanya, Marty

New characters:

Leaf: He's a prince of mediocrity and the main character of this game. Unfortunately, you have to use him.

Eyvel: She's amazing now, but she's not gonna stay with you for long.

Fin: Mounts rule in outdoor maps, and Fin has his own prf to differenate himself from the other mounts. Nice.

Othin: A dude with an axe. He's one of the best units in this game, even at base stats. Highly recommended.

Halvan: Another dude with an axe. Not as good as Othin, but still amazing by FE5 standards.

Dagdar: A prepromote warrior with good bases and bad growths. He's actually pretty good.

Tanya: A fail-boat archer and sadly one of the better bow users in this game. Not very useful.

Marty: He is probably tied with Ronan for worst unit in the game. Has hilariously good promo bonuses, though.

Easy chapter. Just remember to have Othin visit the far off(and out-of-the way)house, IYKWIM.

Turn 1 has me placing my units north, except Othin, who went to claim the pugi. On turn 2, I had Fin capture a javelin loldier and had Halvan earn his first kill. Dagdar and crew joined on turn 3, and using my remaining mates, I took out the remaining soldiers and archers, visited the rest of the houses, and seized on turn 6(I wanted the boss's longsword and I needed Dagdar to cap the guy.)

6 turns.

Gotta love Elite mode. Fin here was able to gain a level, when normally he shouldn't.

Swag: Pugi, Brave axe, Iron sword, Vulnerary, Life ring, Longsword.

what the cocks are you smoking

Marty is useful for the entire fucking game even if you don't feed him any kills ever.

EDIT: And I played on NON-Elite mode.

Also when you get to C4 please call Fergus Felgus so I can erupt with nerd rage like the old days <3

How many captured guys can Ronan take, rip off, and release?

Yeah, I didn't think so. That's, like, what Marty does.

I always have fun in this part of the game intentionally exposing Eyvel to ridiculous danger knowing the RNG is rigged in her favor. No better Jeigan than the one who's not allowed to lose!

Chapter 2: The Village of Pirates

Units Deployed:

Leaf, Eyvel, Fin, Halvan, Othin, Dagdar, Tanya, Marty

Units Acquired:

Ronan

New Units:

Ronan: Another failboat at combat; his utility is his three movement stars and his 7 move/7 con, allowing him to take part in rescue chains.

Again, fairly easy. Don't forget to pick up a few axes while your here. You don't get shit for funds in this game unless you capture.

Gaiden Alert: Complete this map with all villages intact.

Fin visited the village for some stuff(though I forgot to actually grab the javelin from last map), while Leaf grabbed another level on the EP(it's actually important I do this early on, since I need Leaf to be strong in the Manster maps). After I did that and grabbed an axe, I had Fin grab Leaf and sent him and Eyvel up north. Everyone else went east to save the village(and in the case of Othin and Halvan, get EXP). I recruited Ronan on turn 3, just as I killed another pirate. I then had Ronan pick up Leaf after he did some more killing, and using his movement stars, I was able to get Leaf to the gate, just in time for him to pick up a relatively cheap boss kill. I seized on turn 6.

6 turns.

I'm loving Leaf's strength blessage. I'm also probably going to use that Life ring on Leaf, if only to give him a bit more bulk to work with.

Swag: Speed ring, Vulnerary, Iron axe x2.

While Life Ring would make Leaf more bulky, I'd rather give it to someone like Safy so she isn't 1) onshot by Ballista and 2) Fatigue hrrrng or Asvel so he can bosskill forever and ever.

It's not too huge a loss. I get a second Life ring in 4x anyway, the same map Asvel joins. I'm planning on giving the second life ring to Asvel, so he has a little more fatigue buffer.

I disagree here.

Leaf is essentially your tank through early Manster (and Dalshin but that motherfucker only uses axes and there isn't a single Axe that you can snag until like... 6? Maybe one in 4x...), especially with the Light Sword. The more hits he can take, the easier life is. Fergus and Brighton need better swords before they can start doing the shit Leaf does (since the Steel Sword is nice but there's only one), Machua has ass durability, Dalshin's on capture duty and fuck Lifis/Lara when it comes to fighting.

Bulky Leaf is very nice for Manster.

You can always give the Hero Axe to Leaf/Rivis back in chapter 3 so he can use it for the Manster arc. He's quite competant with it and it makes capturing easier.

I like opening fewer chests in 4. But I might try that.

Otherwise there's indeed 3 Armorknights in 4x that use axes. One uses a Devil Axe, while I believe the other two have a Battle Axe and maybe a Hand Axe each. All of them are at the end of the chapter though.

Dio. You're cool and all. But have you ever tried to capture an armor? You have a better chance of making a key that works with your teeth.

By the way, I have nothing but disrespect for all the bashing on Marty there is. Not only is he tanky, but promote him soon as he hits level 10 and he goes form zero to hero. He gets more speed than he'll need because enemies are hilariously slow in this game, super tanky, good enough Str (and you can give him Wrath if you really want to), and he's a one man wrecking crew.

Not to mention abysmal hit.

I have no problem with Marty's lack of Spd but what gets me is the 10% growth in Skill, not to mention the 0 base. That is simply un-axe-ceptible since he's looking at 8+Luck Hit for the majority of his promoted life and 0+Luck before that. Add that to the fact that he needs 30 swings to use the most accurate axe in the game (Killer since Pugi don't count) and yeah... fuck Marty.

Chapter 2x: The Islands of Lifis

Units Deployed:

Leaf, Eyvel, Fin, Halvan, Othin, Dagdar, Tanya, Marty, Ronan

This map introduces the Fog of War mechanic in this game. In FE5, FoW obscures the layout of the map as well as any enemies. Units can only see up to three tiles away, unless a torch is used.

Also, whatever you do, do not kill this guy. You will be able to recruit him at a later date. Also, remember to capture Lifis and never let go to get him.

fireemblemthracia776jap.png

I decide to take the long way around the island because the 'shortcut' is covered in sand, which only serves to hinder my progress. I also decided to grab a few axes and bows while I was here. I sent my main group as far south as they could, while Marty and Ronan went towards the center of the island to grab the torch there(and block the reinforcements, I guess)on turn 6. I also used the life ring on Leaf on turn 7, just before I left the island behind us, and took on the dudes up front. I made it to where Lifis and his bois were on turn 12, and using Fin, I nabbed Shiva. I also nabbed Lifis, allowing Leaf to seize on turn 13.

13 turns.

Leaf and the axe dudes got some good level-ups overall. The 32 HP that Leaf has is because of the Life ring.

Swag: Killing edge, Torch x3, Hezul scroll, Lockpick

From here on out, I'm only listing things that are comparatively rare.

Capturing Shiva is definitely the best thing. Free Killer. I usually take that thing with me to Manster for when Fergus absolutely has to kill a guy. Shame it slows Karin down so much or it might be okay for her too, but what doesn't slow Karin down.

Actually getting it can be a little tricky but Fin/Eyvel can generally pull it off. He can't kill her anyway.

Chapter 3: The Child Hunts

Units Deployed:

Leaf, Eyvel, Fin, Halvan, Othin, Dagdar, Tanya, Marty, Ronan

Units Acquired:

Lifis, Saphy

New Units:

Lifis: A thief. He's good for stealing, but gl getting his build up. Also, his combat sucks.

Saphy: A cleric. Good for healing and much, much moar. Get your Warp staves soon, mate.

This map is a little more difficult than the last two, if only because of those sweet innocent children. Oh, by the way, Fin can't enter buildings unless he dismounts.

Anyway, I sent all my units up, simply choosing to ignore the western enemies. I nabbed the door key from the loldier so that I wouldn't have to waste a lockpick use. I also finally grabbed a short lance so Fin wouldn't have to waste his brave lance on everything. I break into the compound on turn 4, and start grabbing children. I was first able to get Romeo into his house, then Yubel, then Corple, then finally Lucia. I also managed to get the fire sword and killing edge to Leaf so people can use them in Manster. I hammered the boss on turn 10, and seized at the same time.

10 turns.
