Don't forget to do the same with the mask of eyes on. Yeah, the shrine boss was not that bad, BUT THE MINE BOSS IS A BASTARD WHO CAN DIE. You basically have to get to level 10 to beat him, AND have full silver items. He's a bastard because he disappears for an unspecified amount of time and then reappears for a split second, which is the only time you can damage him. He's a jerk.
