Its philosophical undertones of what constitutes intelligence, humanity, and freedom don't make it dark, just add more shades of morality to the subject than most people were expecting.A truly dark visual novel is Wanko To Kurasou, about a schizophrenic man who was sexually abused as a child and hallucinates that animals are human, before fucking them, not realizing he's fucking actual dogs and cats until the very end of the game.
